Nice vid! You could've mentioned how hot the pan should be,..or if any oils are used/needed?
Lol! My husband just ruined 2 blocks of it trying to get it fell apart. Our 4 yr old grandbaby tried it for the first time. She said I like its spicy like sausage. I like that SPACKLE. We died laughing. I was putting laundry away or we have gotten slices that look like yours LOL. I learned by watching my Mom and Grandmoms methods first lesson about scrapple DONT TOUCH THE SCRAPPLE UNTIL ITS READY TO BE FLIPPED OVER!
😂😂 oh wow, that’s funny. Yes don’t touch it!!
i been eating scrapple since i was in a high chair and i’m 15 now. my mom knows how to throw down in the kitchen😭
Lucky you! Of course, when you discuss her cooking among friends, you could use a better example of her cooking than when she plops some "pig scrap corn pudding" into a hot pan. ;-)
@@bruzote what
@@bruzote bet your mom's signature dish is kraft macaroni and cheese
Just smashed a lb brick by myself. I also practice patience with the flip and often when I'm feeling more impatient, I'll have a piece that a "sacrifice" to test the doneness.
😂 oh wow. Yes patience is key
Just had scrapple for breakfast. Shame more people don't know about it, but I'm always keen to introduce my friends to it.
Pa md and dw thing
@Nikolai głodowski Amish people
@Nikolai głodowski high Amish population in the tristate area it’s a Amish thing lol like they make it
Been eating it since i was about 5, 72yo now got a pound in the fridge for tomorrow AM
Flipping scrapple with a spoon?!!...That's just showing off.
Seriously though, what kind of pan are you using? I usually use cast iron for scrapple. I find the cast iron helps make it crispy.
🤣🤣it’s a regular non stick pot set from Walmart. Can’t remember the brand.
Ate perfect Scrapple for years in the diner. Been eating mushy scrapple made by myself for the last 2 years. Follow your directions and turned out as good as any diner's. Go slow and wait for it to move in the pan. Perfect!!
Good job 👏🏽 you just have to be patient with it.
True east cost girl right here
Cast iron skillet, brought to medium-high, butter should sizzle. Acts similar to that toxic Teflon coating pan. Teflon ruins the flavor of all foods. I mix butter and lard when frying the scrapple. That accent sounds like Bawlmereese, but could even be about anywhere Mid Atlantic. My point, try to locate Hughes Delaware Made Scrapple. Rappa is everything but the squeal. I’m not sure if it is still around, but it in lower slower Delaware, try Wilson’s general store. They have the very best scrapple, egg and cheese sandwiches.
Guess what the MD-born n’ raised Ex is getting for Father’s Day today?
Lol I guess I need to wait to flip it...I am just soooooo impatient!! Lol
Yes take your time 😊
Scrapple is the best, I live right next to the rapa factory!
Oh wow.. that’s so cool!!
Damn, now she’s got me running to the store! 🤣🤣
🤣🤣
I love what you said about scrapple...scrapple will talk to you..don't talk to the scrapple! That's funny 😅

took me back to my grandmomma house....
Aww, Thank You!!
I just visited the east coast from st louis! Scrapple is my new favorite and I'll introducing it to everyone!
It’s a breakfast classic 😄
I took your advice and my scrapple came out wonderful for the first.❤
Glad to hear that, good job 👌
I love scrapple. Next time I go to the store I'll get me some scrapple. I bet it's been 5 years since I ate it.
Thank you for this video! I just tried cooking scrapple for the first time this morning and one I think I cut the pieces too thin and two I was trying to flip them too soon now I see and they were turning to mush. But I had to do was reassemble the bush in the pan and a different sized pieces and let it cook longer to wear it all clumped together to where I could flip it again. It was very good! But I will be using your advice next time
Ok good! Yes just be patient and wait until you see the corners turn brown before you flip and you’ll be fine.
This woman is amazing.....just amazing....thanks.
the piece has to be about 1/2" thick in order to get a good piece of scrapple
True
I just heard about scrapple last week, kind of interested 😮
Try it, just cook it long enough so it can be crispy. If you don’t cook it long enough it’s going to soft and it will turn you off 😂
Good with real homemade biscuits with cheese
That sounds good ☺️
how much oil did you use on the pan, much at all?
None at all. Scrapple makes it own oil
I've never heard of this scrapple my husband asked me to look up panhaas he's from Va. Said his mom made it when he was a boy. Do u buy this at the store?
Yes, check your main grocery store by the bacon and breakfast meat.
Why have I been using flour, and oil for 40 years smh
Never too late to learn new tricks
After watching your vid I cooked 6 perfect slices of scrapple 2 each for me and both dogs with a side of scrabbled eggs and potatoes . Thanks 🙏
Sometimes my Mom would flour hers, but always, always fried it in her cast iron pans, floured or not.....great video, thank you so much, scrapple addict..
Thank you 😊
You know scrapple is a Philly breakfast dish; that right Philly !
I just bought some yesterday. I have large croissants and eggs. I have not had scrapple in years. I am so hungry right not. I tuned in to find out how to cook it. Happy Eating
Your accent doesn’t sound like you eat Scrapple.
😂😂
I subbed. Definitely got that fam feeling going on. Thank you

by your accent I knew this is the video to follow
I would like to hear her do this while trying a Pennsylvania Dutch accent. :-D
🎉🎉 You gave out the secrets to perfectly cooked scrapple! ❤
Don't touch the scrapple but once 😊
Thank you!🎉🎉
🤣 yes we all have to cook it right
What you frying it in oil butter
Nothing, it makes its own oil. You have to cook it long enough before your flip it
Some videos people flour them. Some don’t. What is the traditional way??? Flour or no flour??? Help.
I believe it’s no flour. It’s really a personal preference for the crispyness that you want.
Hi do I have to use oil or butter ?
No you don’t need anything
Very informative
Thank you 😊
Thank you good tip
Your Welcome 🤗
What does this taste like?? I want to try it
I honestly can’t compare it to anything m. It’s one of those things you will like or hate. But you will definitely like it as long as you cook it long enough.
Sausage but richer is the best I can come up with ...hope u tried it by now
@@pickinyacotton1609 I’d say like sausage and bacon combined tbh
I thinknit also depends on the pan as well, scrapple cannot cook in a pan that is not non stick
This lady knows what she's talking about! Unfortunately I live in Florida now and these people have no idea of what scrapple is!
😂😂thank you
They sell it at wegmans and there's a restaurant in st.pete that serves it
This scrapple looks perfect
This is hilarious and helpful ! Thank you
Your welcome 😁😂
Best scrapple video I’ve ever seen in my life
🙌 thanks
Just had a scrapple sandwich with American cheese on wheat toast and mustard. Thanks for the tips! Been eating it since i was a kid, but still hit or miss if i flip it properly same with omelettes. Just get inpatient dang it.
Love scrapple sandwiches. Yes patience is key🔑
Thank you for posting this. :-D I just made scrapple and it looked more like porridge.
Your welcome 🤗
I did the same thing when a guest brought some. Next time I won't flip it until it stops steaming and gets browned well and crisp. I think my brand of scrapple has a lot of moisture that keeps it from getting crisp. I had my small pan over a small burner that was on *high* for a long time until it crisped. I will also try a bigger pan and burner next time. Still, I wonder if scrapple generally is like that, having a lot of water than needs to steam off before browning well and crisping.
@@bruzote Not in my experience. It always comes out right and I use any brand I can find because I'm in Los Angeles.
That is a great tip!
I'm curious what is in Scrapple? I have a friend from Chesapeake Bay area of the states and we are always joking back and forth about how he thinks it's so good and I say to him that the idea grosses me out. Even though I have no idea what's in it. Maybe that's my problem. But I'm afraid if I do know, that it'll gross me out even more.
It taste better than it sounds but 🤣 (Definition)
Scrapple is typically made of hog offal, such as the head, heart, liver, and other trimmings, which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth. Once cooked, bones and fat are removed, the meat is reserved, and (dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush.
@@RollingWithThePham you know I had to see your answer 😆 it's definitely better than it sounds lol
@@RollingWithThePham Ewwwwwa! LOLOLOLOL!!!!! That's a big old nope for me. HAHAHA! I'm a pretty adventurous eater but thinking about "parts" like that, grosses me out. I wish I had gotten to taste it before I knew what was in it. It's a mental thing now. LMAO! Y'all are awesome. Thank you so much for you replies.
@@CarolinaGirlCreationZ My Mom used a smoked pork shoulder. She boiled it all day then pulled the pork so there were long shreds. No liver taste. It's still my favorite.
@@CarolinaGirlCreationZ - Any meat is basically just a high-protein version of offal.
😋
Thank you! This is the video I didn’t know I needed!! Now I can cook this properly for my mom. ❤
Your Welcome 🤗 let us know how it comes out the next time you try.
Try grape jelly on scrapple
Eating scrapple right now! 😋
Going to try it
I love turkey Scrabble with some eggs and some grits 😋
Oh yes!!
I love scrapple. I'm about to make a breakfast sandwich in a few. 😌
Ohh yes, those scrapple sandwiches are bomb 💣
Looks perfect! I must admit that I've gotten a bit lazy since I got my air fryer. I cut it thick, spray it with oil, and cook it on high for about 20 minutes. The crunch isn't nearly as good as yours. It's more of a delicate crisp. But, when I do it on foil, there's not much mess. Great video!
I tried it in the air fryer but I still prefer it on the stove surprisingly because we like everything in the air fryer. It took longer to cook on one side and then it was harder to flip 🤷♀️ But thanks for enjoying our video!
@@RollingWithThePham Oh...no doubt. Your way is much, much better than an air fryer. Like I said, the air fryer is a lazy man's way to do scrapple. About the only way I've ever seen that is better than old fashioned pan frying came from this one place that cut it into cubes, batter dipped it, breaded it, and deep fried it. Unbelievably good...but, way more work than I'll ever do. :)
Yes indeed.. Thank you!!
Why don't you cut it thinner? Is it because it falls apart in the air fryer?
@@bruzote Actually, it's really weird. I've gotten to prefer my scrapple in big, thick, air fryer chunks. It's like chunks of piping hot scrapple pudding coated with a paper thin crispy skin. Doesn't fall apart, but you can't manhandle it the way you do with fried scrapple. I push a piece of foil at the bottom of the air fryer, apply some cooking spray, lay the thick chunks in, and fry it at 380F for 20 minutes. Then, I pull the foil out and either lay it on a serving plate or dump it right onto my eggs. One other thing. Practically all the scrapple we eat gets dried out from frying and becomes a stiff patty. This way is much moister and under the crispy skin it more like piping hot custard or soft tofu. Not for everyone, but it works for me. Give it a try. 😁
What heat do yall recommend?
Medium high
Did u spray your pan with oil or anything beforehand? I didn’t hear anything about that.
No you don't need any spray, when it's time to flip, they will release themselves from sticking on the pan.
How high should the heat be?
Medium high heat
@@RollingWithThePham thank you
Ha! "Don't use a spoon." While using a spoon. I like how-to videos that capture how the audience might experience their own how-to moment. Heck, even with a spatula, my scrapple has been sticking to my pre-greased frying pan. That frying sheet (?) looks like it is specially textured. Maybe that helps?
It helps, but I think with any pan, the same cooking concept will work.. just don’t flip too soon 😁
Better with flour
Is it because it’s crispier or you like the texture better or both?
wise41, do you mean you would use flour instead of cornmeal or you would coat the pieces in flour before frying them?
Are you a New Yorker by any chance? I think I hear it in the accent.
No we are in the DMV area
Hello to you, what exactly does it taste like? Nobody ever mentions this🙄🙄🙄🙄
It taste crunchy on the outside and a soft mixture of meat on the inside. We like the beef and bacon flavor.
As a non-fan (I just started using what was gifted to me), I find it to be very mild. That's why browning well is so essential. Otherwise, it's taste is flat. Seeing as it is an Amish traditional food, the bland flavor does not surprise me. You can always add your own variations to the dish. Imagine you're part Jamaican, part South Asian! :-D
