I am with a woman that is 21 and I am 38 and we do love each other, The biggest issue we have has to do with passion. Passion truly makes you drive for the things you want in life. When a person doesn't know what they want they become indecisive. This has hindered our relationship more than anything else. I understand her immaturity and simpleness of drive for momentary things. But the passion comes with age and experience. For the marriage to truly work the woman truly does have to cleave to her husband. this goes for food, clothing, emotional mental and physical support. For love to work both need to talk in each other love language.
I like dean's idea about writing about ones life, even if no one is interested or no one reads it. A couple of months ago I started writing about my childhood, very hard, very therapeutic. Hit pause, life, kids, but I should get back to it. It's very tough, but knowing what I know now gives me a whole other perspective on it.

Right on, Dean! Get a hold on your finances early in life. I can't stress that enough. (401K or IRA or whatever.) Start writing in your journal now, Dean. I can't confirm that enough either. I learn so much about myself when I read back on my journal. I see how I come across and how I sound, and I get a closer look at where I am coming from and where I need to be and what I need to work on. I would love to see your man cave process. I think building a place for you is a terrific idea. My husband built a "Chic Shack" for me a long time ago and I use it every day to be alone, listen to my music, reflect, and write. I also love to bead weave now that my daughters and son are older. It was the best investment we ever made, in my opinion, not only financially, but, spiritually, and emotionally. It is less expensive than a psychiatrist, marriage counselor, or child psychologist. I go there to keep myself from psychologically wounding my children, myself, or my husband and to heal whatever is broken. Most of the time, it is there just so I can evolve. Men should have man caves and women should have there "Chic Shack" or "she shed".

Well, I got bad news, and it's full of irony. I found out yesterday at work that the girl has a boyfriend, who's quite older than her and has kids, one of whom is only two years younger than her (18 I think). It was tough to hear, but I kept a straight casual face; she suspects nothing.

These are real issues you have to face. If it scares you then you should rethink it. IMHO these are real big problems that lay ahead in the long run. You will always be at different stages of life because of your ages.
It works for some but there is a lot to overcome, just like other major differences like Culture, Education , Social status. I think Age is a bigger issue to overcome especially if the GAP is big enough to be almost a generation like if your spouse is closer in age to your parents. That to me is a big No No although I respect that it works for some. But Dean is so right, life is unpredictable. I know of some couples with Age GAP where the much younger partner passed away first. Anything can happen.

Earnest Dickerson IMHO at 18 a girl doesn’t really know what she wants. It’s not just an Age GAP issue . I know that from 18 to 25 I grew a lot and changed a lot.
At the beginning of my age gapped marriage, I was very dependent. He wanted me to quit my job & be the stay at home mom, which was more affordable that making minimum wage/sending child to daycare. I went back to school & work when my kids were older. Though my husband was in his 40s, he wasn't wise with money, thus no savings. He does act like he knows more than anyone else. I was naive & thought he knew everything. As for intimacy, he is now 64 & that is an issue. The doctor says it has to do with his blood sugar. We hardly ever do anything. I've gotten used to it.

For instance, I got myself roped into a coffee and painting event tomorrow...and I'm doing it for my bestie, Jessica, and it's a book club group. This equates to torture for me...I can totally understand...especially Dean's scenario...I had to make a career change 5 years ago because our jobs were outsourced, so I went from being the bread winner for 15 years to unemployed. I've gone in a different direction now, as I work for a law firm, learning a new industry. Life is freakin' so hard...I agree 100000%
