My uncle had a cabinet full of toy civil war soldiers in an office in his home. I would sit and stare and imagine the battle scenes. I didn’t dare touch them. Rules of the house...
I received my first Civil War set when I was 5, all plastic and all one color. My dad loved the Civil War and had toy soldiers when he was young. Over the years, I added more figures to my collection. Britains LTD, I think, were painted and about $1.75 each when I was young, 1970-80's. A few hurricanes tried to claim them over the years, but I saved them fortunately. I became a teacher of American History and still continue my collection. I painted all my plastic ones very nicely, and I have about $7,500 of the ones made of pewter like this gentleman. I am very proud of my plastic and pewter figures and devised some rules similar to Games Workshop's Warhammer games using dice to simulate battles with my son. Hopefully I will have a grandson or two to continue. My dad would always get down on the floor and we would set up battles against each other. He always won, lol. Great memories. I wish dad was still around to beat me at another battle again. Thanks for that first set dad.
I have display cabinets full myself. Started as a child. They were played with and abused and disposed of when l “grew up”. As an adult, having learned better, l started again. The collection will last as long as l do. 👍🏻
Yeah hearing that I thought that is kind of odd. Where is the efficacy, I mean seriously what do the people of Sri Lanka know or care about are history. Leave the paint job to Americans That have a genuine care for accuracy and detail.
WOW! That's wonderful. What a commitment! Incredible collection and fantastic displays. I can almost hear the 'Battle Hymn of the Republic' in the background.
I collect Toy Soldiers too. You end up doing quite a bit of research and aquiring quite the library to go along with it. That's an awesome collection I can appreciate the effort and expense to put it together.
To each their own I personally love 1/6th scale figures, have always been impressed with these though. The amount of detail that one puts in something so tiny is amazing!
I like soldiers too, I like the fact you like real history and not fantasy. I have a large collection of toy soldiers and their all based on real life people. I have American civil war figures, British WWI, Japanese WWII, American Vietnam soldiers, Modern day Israeli troops, Ancient Roman and Persian soldiers, Knights, Native Americans, Russian WWII, Canadian, N Korean figurines, German WWII and some old aluminium antique figurines too.
Interesting military collectibles. Fascinating history behind them. I’ve collected a bunch of figures and replica items over the years. The research or giving them to others as gifts is just as fun !
The collection is impressive and the displays are awesome! I have around 100 old lead civil war soldiers, all handpainted and beautiful. It is more fun than it should be to set the little guys up in different ways 😅. This guy has the touch though, those battle scenes are definitely worthy of any museum. Id pay to check out this collection any day!
I am collecting but painting myself my figurines . I do prefer 54mm and 60mm napoleonic figures . I am also a lawyer but maybe I will bring some pieces at my office. I have painted only one acw figurine . It is a zouave from Imrie-Risley . It was fun to paint
In the 1975 movie “Three Days of the Condor”, we see how the ultra professional hitman, played by Max Von Sydow, relaxes when he is not busy in the world of espionage and assassination. He paints Napoleonic miniatures whilst listening to classical music. It is a wonderful hobby, open to all.
I believe those shown in the first segment were produced by a company in England. If you remember Kbee? or a name similar as I can't remember like that 20 years ago at the local mall, they use to stock them but you had to order them if you wanted more selection. I had some from the Napoleonic wars. Really cool.
Fabulous collection. I have about 400 Civil War pieces, which I started at Gettysburg 18 years ago, and 500 from other eras. If I was a successful lawyer, I would buy more than I do.
I bought my first pieces in Gettysburg in late 2000 in a store that used to be called The American History Bookstore. It is still there with a different name. My main dealer now is Treefrog Treasures, but I have bought from Hobby Bunker, Michigan Toy Soldiers, Sierra Toy Soldiers, and many from Ebay. The best brands these days for matte Civil War figures are W. Britain, First Legion, and John Jenkins Designs.
@@jerimiahserrano4176 There may be someone selling toy soldiers in a big city. It may be extremely hard to get American Civil War figures there. I suggest trying Ebay. King and Country Toy Soldiers makes a lot of World War II and other periods. They are based in Hong Kong and also have dealers in Australia. You might get better shipping rates through those locations.
@david edbrooke-coffin because the battle of schrute farms was a northernmost battle the civil war Gettysburg usually gets credit for it but it was in fact the Battle of schrute farms
Search for Minuteman Toy Soldiers; the owner is one of the premier toy soldier & military miniature dealers in the hobby. Also look up Hobby Bunker, another one of the biggest dealers around.
That's so cool I play a game called War of Right and I am part of a regiment called the 20th of Maine and it would be cool to have little battles all around my room like that.
You’re ashamed of your collection when you’re calling toy soldiers, figurines 😂 C’mon dude, don’t let the reporter turn you into a “figurine” collector!!! Embrace the toy soldier in you!

the world was once very odd and some for over 100 a piece

Good quality ones are at least 45 dollars.
He's a lawyer, he can afford them.
I wish I had some lol I cant afford it

Stop sending them to Sri Lanka, there are perfectly good commission painters here in the States that will give you a bulk/returning customer deal.
sri lanka is probably cheaper lol
@@tyrian_baal it depends on who you go with.

I have a lot of them toy soldiers.
A very worthy pursuit.. My people call something like this a wonderment
He would never get close to $300,000 for those figures. That would only be his asking price.
It's not about the money. It's for the love of it
The meda spun it to seem overvalued but he probably told them "they're worth 300,000" because that includes a commissioned painter per figure.
Yeah you re right
He d get more
Thumbs up to this guy for his strong dedication of knowing history
Glad there are so many of us who colect figures, toy soldiers and other interesting things...
Where can you buy toys like that? Ill wait for your reply thank you

It's just so childish to collect figurines like this.

10,000 miniatures? That's nothing. I have more than that un-built and waiting to be painted. ;)
Seriously, A big salute to a man after my own heart.
me too for Warhammer 40,000. I have close to 20000 miniatures. He didn't even paint and assemble those :P
We call that the "gray army". It's the image of figures primed for painting, but sitting on the bench, in boxes, etc, waiting to get painted.
Fantastic collection keeping American history vital, great stuff
Next : WWI, WWII, Coldwar soldiers toy. Then his collection completely done
He had a few WWII ones
