Oz doesn't get the credit it deserves for pioneering the "golden age of television".
Sopranos premiered too soon after Oz for the show to get its credit.
@@matthewbourgeois5964 Oz is better than the sopranos
True
@Mega Canon And how many seasons of Sopranos were crap?
Because it was so dumb. The cast did everything they could but it was hilariously stupid
This needs way more views if it wasn't for this show we never get the wire or the sopranos
Fucking A
Truth
🙌🙌🙌
facts oz was my favorite before watching any other show
Still my favorite HBO show hands down.
I have watched OZ like 10 times or so... Its my #1 tv series... Much love from Greece
I watch it every few years to keep myself humble.
@@hsharma3933 me too
My #1 favorite tv series is Dexter, but Oz is probably top 2-4 for sure! 🔥💯
@@Loudasstony420 Prison break, OZ, Lost, Breaking bad. my #1!!! Is dexter worth it?
@@liakoCC yes! There's 9 total seasons and really theres only one bad season of dexter that most people agree on which is season 8 but 1-7 and 9 are all worth watching so might as well just watch 8 to while ur at it since there's one left after that lol 🤷♂️ but yes worth the watch
Dean Winters looking like a Mob Boss in a dark room. Love it. This whole Retro was great.
That was one helluva emotional ending to S5 with Augustus dying in that final scene and the "I caaa....I can feel my legs" & the cut to the empty wheelchair in the box, that got me too
One thing about this show is that the actors look like most people. Unlike today in alot of shows everyone looks like a perfect model or something lol
In perfect houses
how does this not have more views...this show is legendary...probably in my top 5 shows of all time
Because it's an old show and UA-cam is full of kids who never saw good TV before
@@WorthyDirtyJersey True but even then Oz is very under appreciated compared to the likes of Sopranos and the Wire which happened at the same time.
HBO Max should to promote OZ
Likewise. I first got HBO max for OZ.
the first 4 seasons were pretty solid. fell apart after that pretty much.they didn't really seem to know where to go with it. but those seasons were pretty badass. This and the Shield. Two great shows that paved the way for other stuff.
I discovered Oz recently after falling in love with Eamonn Walkers' character on Chicago Fire. I decided to find more of his work.....and whoa nelly....Kareem Said gave me more than I asked for. The whole show, in general did......and I am not one to enjoy prison dramas. But this.....this show is phenomenal. ❤
Well tbf, it’s a prison crime drama and dark-comedy
I WANT A REUNION SHOW SO FUCKING BAD! O'Reilly and Alvarez, Beecher- They'd all still be alive, they could be. There's nothing I want more.
They really should...And I am not a reboot fan but the way the show ended, with a lot of the characters still alive...I would gladly watch that...
Apparently there was a short movie called “Zo” where Reilly phones Beecher . I’ve tried to find it but it’s really hard to find.
@@jeromealexandre4162 it's on youtube now. Hope you found it
@jeromealexandre4162 It's on UA-cam now.
Yes, watched 'Zo' last night, interesting
I literally just binged watched all 6 seasons of Oz. Great Acting and Great Show!!!
Same for Me. I just finished binging on it today. I love it!
Yes. Great acting. Ridiculous show though 🤣
@@grahamwalden2867 You made several comments here, i wonder what makes you come here when you think the show is ridiculous? No one click on a video which has interviews on a series they think are ridiculous.
@@gollese the show became ridiculous in a cartoonish way but was still very entertaining
@@grahamwalden2867 as in cast having to actually work in different ranges of acting. Oz was quite avant garde when it comes to experimenting with episodic TV....
they had one episode of the show be an fucking musical. Oz writers were never too scared to go against the norms.
Oz. One of the greatest show in history. As real as it gets on TV
this made my year, had no idea it happened.
Oz remains top 5 best tv shows ever made (and idgaf if you disagree).
Still my favourite programme to ever air. Watched it first from series 4 to 6, then got the dvds when I was in my late teens. Absolutely incredible show, and Dean Winters wins all the attention 😂💙
Dude that was perfectly said would Dean Winters mentioned about all these Hollywood people these days talking about diversity he's absolutely right Oz was the first show to ever do any kind of diversity of all perspectives may get no credit for it man that God damn shame
They even had a couple lady hacks.
And did it right. Every character got a chance
To be honest I am addicted to this show. One of the greatest shows which is highly underrated.
OZ was huge in Brazil back in the day. It was aired late nights every friday, everybody watched.
awesome!
I've watched maybe a hundred show since then but Oz is still my all time favourite
This show cannot be forgotten. I wish they can run them again so younger ppl see it.
My favorite moment on OZ was the final fight between Adebisi vs Saed behind rhe curtain and curtain turns completely blood red. If the reveal never happened, that would have BEATEN every network television cliffhanger INCLUDING Dallas.
I really gotta give credit to Tom Fontana for being a funny dude and generally entertaining
Tom is good people.
Great show and so obvious the cast had a great bond.
I'd love a beer with those guys! 🍻
I had lunch with Seth Gilliam while I was volunteering at his booth during a Con right after he joined TWD. The first thing that popped out of my mouth when we were talking was "I've seen you naked" He laughed and said no woman had ever admitted that before. lol. Seth is awesome and we spent over an hour talking about his roles on Oz, The Wire and TWD and my career as an attorney.
The fact that male nudity was a regular part of this series is STILL unheard of.
And true nudity, no prostetics hahaha If I was throw in jail for life I wouldn't give a F about showing my pp too hahaha
HBO had an online contest to win Hill's book. I won it and 2 shirts. I was wearing one at the dentist's and the dentist was so freaked out by the shirt (it was just Dean's eyes) that he took a break and asked me to turn it inside out.
The shirts are long gone, but I still have the book.
I have it too. Or had it. I lost all my books in a flood unfortunately. But that book was a treasured one.
@wwemusicfanC it was really geared towards the fans. If someone wasn't a dedicated fan of the show, it wouldn't make sense. It really came across as Hill's journal and some of the inmates stories as intake or "news" articles. It was a fun retrospective. I have kept it stored in a safe for years.
This is SO cool. Wish we had more content like this back in the day. Crazy to say 2013 is back in the day but that's when I first watched Oz 😂
OZ was a very successful tv show in Brazil, it was aired late night on tv.. Adebisi and Ryan O'Reily are one of the coolest characters.. Best tv show ever ❤️
There'll never be another character on television like Simon Adebisi. Still hilarious to me that O'Reilly and Schillinger (two of the most insidious characters) are insurance pitchmen!
Oz best show EVER
Its a blessing to se all this faces again. And of course to see all the joy and fun they are having with all the memories. Tom really created a work of art. Good for them.
I can't thank you enough as a TV company and those who starred in OZ for publishing this video, all the best, I love you and I hope that one day I will talk to Alvarez on some network, my favorite character
The amount of memorable characters this show introduced to the audience was staggering, I had forgotten about most of them until recently ive been watching clips of the show on youtube. There are the main guys of course the heads of all the races and then the others like Beecher and the old guys. So incredible the cast of characters. Even the background of the background characters are interesting.
What truly made the show terrifying was that Oz seemed like a real place. Unlike most horror movies that take place in some unknown remote location you could never go to. Oz seemed like any max prison in the US. It was giving you a real look at the reality of life in this place. What was truly scary is that the show didn't seem to sugar coat or sensationalize anything going on. It was just shot like yeah this place is real and this is what it is.
One of the best shows of all time !!! So much misery an never a happy ending. It was so raw and just so well acted. I love it so much and I was born in 94 and have watched it maybe 3-4 times and am going to start again soon.
I love how much Dean Winters loves Oz.
I have the original season 1 script cover signed by the entire season 1 cast!
That's so true with Terry Kinney was talking about that actors got killed off because of being late to set. Method Man said an interview one time that that's why he was only in two episodes cuz he was late to set so they killed him off way earlier than he was supposed to originally LOL
He came and left Oz in season 4 then joined the Wire and stayed from season 2 until the end.
Oz is without a doubt my favorite show the acting in it is simply amazing I just hated how it ended
Dean Winters giving Tom his flowers 💯💯💯
The acting was so great on this show. Love these guys.
The Z0 short story got me looking for other things featuring this cast and show I miss. Please bring back some form of a OZ reboot!
Did you find 'Zo' intriguing?
This was the precursor to all those TV shows that would follow .. first and best
best show ever MADE!
Oh wow, I'm glad I found this. Very cool. Thank you for doing this!
The Wire, OZ, and Breaking Bad are my all time favorite shows!!
I Love OZ , this show changed my life
Grettings from Colombia 🇨🇴
I just spent the day watching all the bonus OZ clips I could find so this is like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Legends =) I grew up with these guys and know the show off by heart. Wish Schillinger and Adebesi were here too.
And Kareem said
And KELLER !! He was a main Character
And Peter shibetta.
@@wherezmemallet4879he said what?
I loved that we got some confirmation about the ZO short film at the end. Hopefully we get to see it sometime soon
Yeah, when the ATX festival was one I've watched *Zo* a couple times, had a blast, but didn't bother with recording it since I figured it would quickly be available everywhere.
But sadly there are issues, don't remember which, that mean that it's apparently a pain to upload.
It's sad because there are so many *Oz* fans who want to watch it, it's a frequent topic of conversation of the Oz subreddit... one day, I hope.
Like with the *Game of Thrones* pilot, I hope that all this good stuff won't just stay on a dusty HDD and never be released to the fans...
I wish Mums had lived a while longer to be part of this.
It was awesome seeing Mums, Lord Jamar, and Treach all show up on Sopranos. Then later Lord Jamar and Treach showed up on The Night Of (amazing series).
OZ was one of the first shows I watched back in the day. My parents got Directv with all the premium channels back in like 98/99.. and remember clicking through and seeing OZ.. watched it from day 1. As far as this interview.. great interview..
Just finished the series!!! Absolutely amazing show.... hbo..... bring it back!!! Now
They should never bring it back. You can't ruin a classic show like this. Maybe a 2 hour special or something but definitely not a whole new series
This was so freaking informational. wow. one of my top 10 TV shows.
I use to work at a TV station in my youth to get by for film school. And every night and early morning they would show OZ and for my job post I had to program the commercials when it was needed. And I swear I never been so thrilled to watch OZ one of best underground TV series out there.
Peter, Peter Marie
lol

Lmfao!!!! Well said prag
I kill , but NEVER LIE !!!
The diversity on Oz was organic and made sense vs diversity for diversity sake
Easily one of the best shows ever made.
Dean winters spitting facts in the beginning
Loved this! Love Oz what an epic show. Thank you all for this!
You guys are awesome
I found third watch more interesting than the wire . OZ was shocking and amazing . Will always be treasured
You guys are even more scarier in real life I really love OZ thank you so much cheers
HBO was serious with their programming back in the day, they were able to bring shows like Oz and The Wire to the forefront, showing things that we knew and were afraid to acknowledge.
I own every season on dvd and luv Dean Winters 🥰
oz's one of the greatest shows i've ever watched!
25:13 I love that even the creator of the show mispronounces "Schillinger"
yes, it drives Vern CRAZY!
I remember when Master P called him Shallinjer. Lmao
I buy the book ANYTIME I find it!! I framed one of the book jackets - GREAT TV!!
Love all involved. What a great show/series. Thank you!!!❤️
OZ is incredibly entertaining, one of my all time favorite show ever. I remember when it aired in my country, it took to stand till pretty late to get a chance to catch an episode ! 😅 Hill, Beecher and Keller, Sister Peter Marie, Alvarez are the most interesting characters, like the ones I hoped nothing bad would happen to them !
I'd like to add that I didn't really get the end of the story, like they're moving to another place... And...? What should be next ?
Is Beecher ending up in death row ? Is Busmalis getting better ? Is Alvarez dying from o d ? What's going on between Ô Reilly and Doc Nathan ?
Does anyone have an idea of what their future should be ? 😊
We want Oz Back
Chuck Zito was a great actor, playing Chucky Pancamo. B.D. Wong, Adewale and J.K. Simmons. Eammon Walker is in Chicago Fire.
Zito is awful. What are you talking about?
He was just playing a different version of himself. It’s just that Pancamo lead the Wiseguys, whereas Zito lead (at least a Chapter of) the HA.
@@himwhoisnottobenamed5427 true, he was pretty much the same character on Sons of Anarchy and even that cameo he had on Entourage, I think he was even dressed like Pancamonwould dress in Oz.
Kinda crazy that he is 70 years old now. He got sent to prison in 2002 for violating a PFA from his wife whom he called to check on right after 9/11.
@@becomingparanormalabout his clothes, he demanded that he made his own wardrobe for the series. So he probably dressed like that irl.
I really liked his clothes. M0fo knows what to wear.
The Sopranos, Entourage, Breaking Bad,, The Wire and OZ!!
Man I love this show! Love all of these guys and everyone who made it! Facts ! 🎥😎❤️
McManus is unrecognizable here!
The first series on HBO and was an amazing show Always made plans to be home and have the opening song up full blast Terrific acting
The first 4 seasons were pretty damn solid. S5 and S6 were ok but it wasn't as good once they moved from NYC to Bayonne.
A série que eu não perdia por nada 😍
Brasil 🇧🇷
I never thought of the diversity aspect of Oz. I guess that's how you do diversity without making it seem forced and shoehorned
Best TV show to this day iav never seen anything that comes close
great actors great show i've watched it many times i loved the interview haha Dean Winters rocking N.W.A Hoodie pretty awesom
Still the best show HBO has ever had in my opinion
I'd say Carnivalé or Deadwood
Thankyou guys
No offense to anyone involved with making Oz, but if you kill the lead in the first episode, then how was he the lead? He literally had one episode. That's a guest spot.
Who? Dino?
amazing show
From Italy OZ number one HBO serie's number two The Soprano's
Before Oz there was what? Crime Story and Wiseguy in the 80s? That short lived Profit show? Oz was such a leap, so groundbreaking
Man I love these ppl. Best show ever. Then the wire
I love Tobi and Chris relation ship
Wish this show never got canceled 😞
It never did.
It was never cancelled
When Adebisi died everyone in high school was talking about it even the teachers lol
It'd be great to do yet another set with eight other cast members.
Which eight?
@@himwhoisnottobenamed5427 Robson and Cutler and Pancamo and Morales and Omar White
Named my son after O'Reilly. Best character.
Tom is a smart producer
Cool job with the video!
This is even better than the show
Legendary crew
Imo OZ should be in convos of greatest shows on HBO. I kinda gets forgotten cuz of the sopranos and the wire, but man OZ for my buck is up there (even better than sopranos for me).
dean looks like he's in a movie theater
Why can’t oz be recreated? Some of those characters could still be in oz they were doing life sentences. It wouldn’t fly these days but god damn would that be amazing
It can be done, it takes a great creator/writer like Tom Fontana and a media company to give said creator/writer free reign. Good writing is almost extinct in today's world so it's much, much harder.
Very nice interview❤
Oz changed my life
For the better, or worse?
Oz is a hidden Jewel no doubt hit me up if you believe that it will help I tell more people and people don't even know it exists I don't know why but I kind of keep telling people to watch Oz it's worth it I think it's better than sopranos
Hill, ryan, and alveras look the same glad to see the boys lookjng healthy and hill is doing so good on from
Such a great powerful show
