She is a powerhouse of storytelling. I think a lot of people might underestimate the fact she walks out of intense vocals that others simply cannot do to that standard like it cost her NOTHING. I ADORE this performance.
@@jvoxfoxTHIS EXACTLY!!!! Her technique is astounding because not only is it fantastic but it is mixed with the stylistic necessities of blues. Add to that the perfection of the emotive element… ugh! She tore this song up and it’s a masterclass of a performance.
Having now watched the whole song. It is totally amazing. Also the brass section is doing a really awesome job. 100% supporting and moving the song forward. Wow, just Wow. A new fan is born, right here right now.
THIS is what react videos should be. A knowledgeable person that adds information and actually explains what they are seeing. Thank you for doing these, subscribed and going through your back catalogue now.
oh my goodness.... watch her damn near jump outta that gorgeous dress because her SOUL is singing... this is on my STAYLIST... I visit it often and am amazed by her... SOOOO glad you are reacting Love... !!! .... [edited] ...so now go to watch her perform "She Used to be Mine" from The Waitress. She is a chameleon that wraps her voice around every da*m character she takes... [sorry for the double post.. im stupid like that... and so damn excited she made your roll] ... and that trumpit.. Dear LORD
I have lost count of the amount of times I have watched this performance. Shoshana gave us the best live vocal that I have ever seen! She is beyond words.
Great reaction! If you’re looking for more of her music most people will tell you to go for She Used To Be Mine or I Did Something Bad, both of which are amazing songs, but I’d tell you to take a listen to Never Loved A Man. That duet with Amber Riley is something special! Full of soul with two powerhouse vocalists.
I agree... She Used to Be Mine is also sensational but there are certain stylistic parameters of musical theatre that stop her from truly going OFF, even if she does tease that her voice can go there. Amber is incredible too... it's the kind of match up where one would be amazing but both of them? how do we even survive! and from the same concert as the Make It Rain performance? ridiculous
As many times as I've watched this performance, nothing beats watching the pianist as she winds up around 13:35 on...he's grinning from ear to ear like a Cheshire cat at what he's hearing and is blown away as much as anyone in the audience is. THAT"S how you know you're on fire - when the people playing on stage with you are as amazed as the people in the audience. Also, I don't know who it was, but as a drummer, I'd like to give props the drummer here. Everything he played here was just tasty as all get out...whisper quiet when she was and roared like a lion when she did, supporting and leading the band the whole way. Not being familiar with this song, I'm not sure if this was how it ends, but it seems the horn section was maybe expecting her to sing a little more and she chose not to, and the trombone guy got up to direct the ending..I could be wrong though.
I didn’t know I liked this type of music. Now I do, this was amazing! Thanks for introducing me to yet another genre of music, this is exactly why I’m subscribed to your and mrs Zharoffs channels. This also underlines my theory that I can enjoy any type of music, as long as the performance is good.
Oh yes indeedy! Shoshana is in a class of her own. I've seen her do some performance sitting down where I just don't understand how the beepity beep beep she manage to find all that power, and still she delivers like there won't be a tomorrow.
W.O.W. ... I mean, holy $#!%... I'm a metal head at my core. But this... this is just beautiful. I love this simply because of her control and the naturally deliberate way she sings each lyric. Reminds me of what one may hear from classic 1920 albums. If there were the old school vinyl record skips, it's right there.
Lord oh Lord that was incredible. Heard this song a number of times by different singers. That's got to be the best I've heard. Her Mic technique is so good. On the very high part. She held that mic So far away but was still loud & clear enough to be heard. You can rehearse a song as many times as you want. But you can't really rehearse a performance. And what a performance that was. Spot on analysis as usual.👍 Waiting for the day you react to N F. He just dropped a new album. You will need a box of tissues for it. P.s. I think you would love listening to Yebba. She has a voice that you could die for.
Julia giving a technical, well thought out analysis and I'm just sitting here thinking, "damn, nice song." Love your channel, dear. I grew up with Sabbath and Sammy Hagar and southern rock so I'm no expert but you are 😊
WOW!! I so love Shoshana and your reaction and breakdown to this rendition was wonderful! As an aside, I would love to hear Shoshana do Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky!! Nothing but goosebumps throughout...sigh If only...
Julia, the solo trumpet player in her band plays a really BIG part in this performance too - at times they seem to riff off one another during the song.
Would really love to see your reaction of Jacob Colliers rendition of fix you by Coldplay. Jacob has such an interesting usage of his voice where it actually feels like it's an instrument with how precise he is when choosing what keys to sing in. This together with his masterful piano skills and expert knowledge of music and harmony makes for such and emotional experience.
Amazing stuff. If you like this style of artist, may I highly recommend checking out Canadian singer Jill Barber. Tell Me is one of her big singles that really showcases her vocal chops IMO.
I searched your channel & couldn't find a reaction to Kasey Chambers - Lose Yourself (Eminem Cover) LIVE @ Civic Theatre, Newcastle AU, I know you'll love it. It's blowing up currently & needs a fellow Aussie to give a more localized review, please ?
i am working but have three monitors so I get one for this glorious gift and two for spreadsheets and mundane emails.... I think 33% of me should be happy most of the time, right?
Have you ever checked out Celtic Woman? Their lineup has changed a lot over the years, but plenty of great vocal performances, especially from their original members like Chloe Agnew and Lisa Kelly. Worth a listen.
I have three questions: 1) How can anyone sing this well? 2) How does Caption-Julia know what's coming next in the performance before it happens? 3) When will Angelina Jordan make a reappearance on the Julia Nilon channel? Great reaction, Julias! The premiere was a lot of fun, too.
I enjoy your reactions insightful - I think I may have sent this recommendation to before Glennis Grace - "Run to You' - you would swear it was Whitney Houston - Doug
Hi Julia, just to let you know... Dimash dropped a new bomb EL AMOR EN TI/concert version. You'll be surprised and stunned. Don't miss it. I can't wait to see your reaction.
I would like to suggest checking out songs from the talents at Hololive, especially Hololive EN, the English division. There is a lot of variety amongst them in voices and style such as the massive gap between Gawr Gura who has a more cute voice and whose first song has a kinda Egyptian sound and Mori Calliope who generally has a deeper voice and mainly does rap that is her own style. I especially recommend going over End of a Life and checking out the vod of the stream where Calli actually explained the meaning of the lyrics as she sees them. Just be aware that you will be starting down the VTuber rabbit hole and once you start, there is no going back.
Not particularly related to this song, but would love to see you do an analysis of something by Rammstein. Their singer Till Lindemann has an amazing vocal range in my humble opinion. Du Hast is of course one of their best known songs, but something like Feuer Frei has lots of amazing sections as well.
*Julia* wonder if you can check out *BAND-MAID Documentary / SAIKI* as it covers her time before *BAND-MAID* and the throat surgery she had. Thanks enjoy this channel a lot. 😀
Could you please react to Charlotte Wessels? Either by her solo music or the music she did for Delain. Especially her song Afkicken "Afkicken" Live with Timo Somers at Tim Tronckoe's Studio 23
Good performance. I am still in love with Matt McAndrew from the voice show a few years ago. I still have no idea how he did not win. Every one of his songs were amazing. I think youd love Greta Van Fleet, literally any of their songs, they have a new album coming in July so it could be a perfect time to hear them for the first time
Julia, it would be nice if you could react to "LOVEBITES"s (Edge of the World). Also would love to get your view on Asami's vocals in their new songs . She has improved along with the rest of the band. They also have a new bass player named Fami who is quite good. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Shoshana is 'my' Elpheba. First time I saw her was in Wicked on Broadway back in 2005 and was immediately hooked. She's just magical.
back again. running again though your catalogue, this is a fav of mine.
Oh my sweet Lord!!! Love!!!! And a nice cool school trumpet player backing her up too! Amazing performance!
I mean, an entire orchestra is backing her up lol
id be bawling my eyes out if i was in the audience are you kidding?! every time i hear this performance or any performance from her i am blown away
Out of this world!!!! How can someone be this good?!?!?! 🤯🤩
Beautiful analysis to a beautiful performance. I have never heard her before. She's awesome. Thank you.
Yeees i have been waiting for you to discover her
Damn that was a fantastic performance. As a jazz trained sax player, shout out to the killer band as well, they balanced with her perfectly.

She is easily one of the most versatile singers of our time. This woman oozes talent like no other.

I love this song but have never heard this version of it before. It's really a fantastic performance
completely raw in delivery
I've just stumbled over "Miserere mei, Deus - Allegri - Tenebrae conducted by Nigel Short" - it might be worth to check out too :)
Using this song as a prophetic prayer
she does a killer version of "she used to be mine" from the waitress. Shoshana is something special!!
it is stunning
Nice reaction to a great performance. Wow, just wow.
Probably not one to analyze but if you haven't seen it yet check out Sheila Jordan - Live at Mezzrow. What a great performance at age 93.
