- Dimash is always on my list of recommendations, and you Dears always represent! This performance by Dimash of the 1989 Japanese classic at the Tokyo Jazz festival in 2021 truly shows this expressive talent. This is the second time I've seen him perform this song, the first in Chinese (link at the end of the video).
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Dimash Kudaibergen performing for the first time in Japanese "Ikanaide”.

Great reaction. I think that it is the best performance of dimash, my little opinion
+1 Been waiting for your response and comment on this song 👍👍👍🌹🌹🌹
Hi Elizabeth, I really enjoy watching your reactions. Best wishes from Poland
arogenates dismisses stupid ? he's the best singer in the World lass
A young Japanese man reacting to this song commented: He knows how to break your heart beautifully!
Please don't go/ Ikanaide
Nothing visible, nothing
I have been crying throughout
Not because I feel sorrowful
But because of the delight of feeling your warmth
Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away
Please don't ever ever let us separate
Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away
Let's remain this way
Someday my heart, someday
Will be somewhere afar
That everything will turn into memory
Though it's better not to know
Though it's better not to know
Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away
Whenever it is, don't let us separate
Ah… Please don't go away, please don't go away

Dimash has been congratulated by the japanese composer of the song by the many ways of pronouncing IKANAIDE (Don't leave me) in japanese, language he doesn't speak (nor chinese)
Dimash sings with such a passion. I can't figure out if he has had a love with a person or music or both.
Dimash is killing me by how much passion and truth he put in every songs and notes that he sings, he always take them personal and bring them to a whole new dimension and level of majesty....
Ele está matando todos nós de paixão, minha querida! Dimash é um bálsamo para nossas almas!
Woooooow
I wish that was true. I was like you till I heard him in a couple of interviews . My family said I was naïve I am not a young person either. When he sang I felt exactly how he wanted me to feel
Sorry I got I got interupted. Watching him wrung me out. Man it hurts to be wrong. Really.now to me he is a masterful singer and masterful actor Don’t get me wrong, I will still watch him perform, but it will be watching a performance. I kind of blame the whole thing on my folks dying recently. There was a hole to fill and he he helped a.bit. Boy but it hurts to be wrong
Gerçekten kendine has harika yorumluyor .
It's so funny - I'm listening with my parrot, and when he hit some of those high notes, she started "singing" along.😂
Lol that's awesome
That's so cute! I'd love to see that.
@@barbarasaracini1271 She tends to be camera shy, so not much chance of recording her 😞 There are a lot of singing parrot videos on UA-cam though, if you want to witness the cuteness.
I have a cockatiel who only responds to Dimash's high notes, too. Dimash must be producing a pitch that is similar to that of bird vocalizations.
@@ThallanarRabidtooth oh that's great, I would love to see a video of birds reacting to dimash's high notes 😀
You can hear pins drop around the world when he quiets down... his command of the audience is amazing, even from little handheld screens.
Is it even possible to sing any softer than this? Good lord what a voice.
This my favorite version of this song. I’m amazed at how he can control his listeners at the end. I love how he ended this version. So, for me, the Japanese version is the most emotional and heart wrenching. Always enjoy your comments. Bev
Hi! I think the main challenge Dimash faced here had to have been the differences in emotive dynamics between the two versions. If you have ever heard Kodji Tamaki (the composer) sing the original, you will have noticed that when Jackie Cheung wrote the Chinese lyrics he toned it down by reducing the impact of the song’s pathos. Perhaps the Japanese musical ethos is a bit more openly emotional than the Chinese one. So even though Dimash has known the original Japanese version for quite some time {There was a video of him in an airport where he declared to a reporter that “Ikanaide” was his favorite song to sing.), he apparently waited to perform it in front of a Japanese audience until he was absolutely certain of his interpretation. The 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival seems to have presented a perfect opportunity for him to publicly celebrate the song and its composer. Yes, he did win several awards in China for the Mandarin version of the song; however, every Japanese reviewer that viewed “Ikanaide” on FaceBook gave him effusive praise for this deeper, more emotional and far more Japanese rendering of the song. Even the original Japanese librettist posted on his Instagram account that he had never in his life expected to hear a non-native sing his language with such beauty and perfection.
Dimash é perfeição em tudo que faz!
Amen! I lived in Japan for 10 years and am fluent in the language, and I agree. The differences between the Chinese and Japanese versions are well-handled by Dimash, while at the same time keeping the core - the heart - of the song true in both versions. All the Japanese friends with whom I've shared the link for Ikanaide have also been effusive in their praise for his talent and his beautiful delivery of Japanese, echoing the comments of the Japanese librettist.
❤️ Excellent summary! 🤗 ❤️
)嗷嗷)
I disagree. Dimash's version sounds like a vocal exhibition. And amazing it is. Tamaki's version however exudes emotion on a real level beyond just vocal flexing. This song is all about pain, which is harder to register when Dimash is showing off his vocal range
And remember Dears, in January on the 5th Anniversary of SOS on The Singer 2017, Dimash made a video for his fans. He thanked us for staying with him, and promised that if we kept following him, he had amazing things in store for us. He basically was saying “You ain’t seen nothing yet” 🤯🤯🤯
A Canadian Dear 🦌🇨🇦💜🇰🇿
In the last concerts he went back to his more classical style. What I love is his versatility and ability to change things up, so that he is never boring.
I'm not familiar with this artist but, wow, goosebumps! Truly amazing
Elizabeth has a lot of videos about him. She always does a great job giving enough info before her analysis. Dimash is really a great singer and a beautiful human being. Independent artist because that is the way he wants to do it. He sings no only one genre, so he loves to be free to sing what he wants.

I love both songs. The feelings from Ikanaide are different. I really experience the sadness of the lyrics with Ikanaide. I'm happy that Dimash sang the original language of Japanese.
👉 Hello Elisabeth-Sunshine, two weeks ago, on April 16th, I was in Prague at the Dimash concert. After two long years the concert finally took place. I'm still flashed and excited. I cried and laughed, sang and cheered. Dimash sings every single song brilliantly and flawlessly, sometimes like in the video (Olimpico), sometimes with new arrangements and variations, new riffs and runs. This (often spontaneous) creativity distinguishes Dimash. He rarely sings a song in the same way. It's stunning and overwhelming. He also interacts with the audience in a beautiful, emotional and also funny way. There is a real connection. I never wanted it to end. I absolutely have to go to the next concert. (There are many videos of the concert in Prague on UA-cam.)
You're so right! I was in Prague also. One on the greatest moment in my life.
I went to his concert in Düsseldorf 3 weeks ago and it was amazing. There's no words to describe it
I may not understand the lyrics, but I don't even care. His voice is so so so angelic. When something's good...........it's just good!!
Hi, I have been waiting for your analysis and comments on Dimash's 2nd version of this song for some time. Finally, it has arrived and I really appreciate your honest admiration on his work behind this version as he had to master J Japanese vowel sounds after mastering Chinese version which he has been singing on big stages quite a few times by now. Being a Japanese person, I can guarantee to anyone who does not speak our language that he was incredibly authentic and yet really sophisticated in his own way. I for od knew he would this original song some time and he did it so majestically. He perhaps made Koji Tamaki proud as a composer of this heart-breaking song.
Yes, Mr Tamaki has expressed his compliments on this performance! Also the lyricist has said that no other foreign performer has sung this song as beautifully as Dimash. He truly did it justice ❤️

In the Prague concert, he started this song in Japanese then half way through he instantly switched to Chinese, then back to Japanese at the very end. Unbelievable!! Loved your reaction, as always!
Lucky you to have been there for that!! In Japanese : "urayamashiiiiiiii!"
He actually started in Chinese and then Japanese and Chinese again
Also in Dubai: Chinese, Japanese and Chinese again.
We were treated to the Chinese translation of this in his Prague concert. Just as good, if not better live than in this video. Simply put, he's the best voice of my generation, if not ever.
China + JAPANESE
I particularly appreciate his last sounds... pillow talk... Wow
At Dubai or Dusseldorf concert he sang a mix chinese and japanese version of the song
Moving from one language to the other just like that
That's amazing
In Prague also.
@@simonbastien5949 He keeps on surprising us
Oh wow a great song to start the month of may with. A truly great artist singing a great song. Let’s all just enjoy this one.
He controls his core and nasal pitches so nicely, tight awareness of how his body is resonating as he goes through the piece. Really interesting and lovely.
By the shape of his mouth he can actually give pure air different frequencies that gives the effects of notes void of vocal cords. I've never heard that.
After seeing more than like a hendred of his videos, my is still blown away by the amount of focus and attention he puts to every single note. What a beast ...
Magnificent and moving version in japanese, Dimash is full of emotions , his performance is stunning !!!!
I had a cat, the love of my life dying in my arms a few months ago, and I was listening to this song with tears streaming down my face, I felt like Dimash was pleading along with me for him to "please dont go"
i feel like every high school choir class should see his performances
That humming at the end gets me all the time ,just too beautiful
So geliebt zu werden, so gefleht zu werden und so an geschnurrt zu werden, man bleibt bei Dimash bis zum Ende.
That was beautiful like always. Thank you 🤍 I was lucky to see him live in Germany. It was amazing 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
I was there too.. I'm still processing it 🤯🦄❤️
@@isabelfortuneteller I feel you 😁😄😃
Hello😁 Frank!!!! Miss you dears
Dear 'est one, the iteration in Chinese, tells the story of Ms.Yamaguchi, the Japanese songstress, and actress who passed for Chinese until her true identity was exposed. As you know the original involved the pleading of a lovesick heart, Please Don't Go. While I love both versions, this truly is my favorite for composition and technical reasons. Dimash did a brilliant job of rearranging the much more passionate, personal aspects and resolved the story breathlessly. Every studio soundboard was placed just right, the unfiltered mic. His Japanese was perfect. He wanted us to feel the agony he took on for this.
The original lyrics imply the possibility of death separates two people or lovers apart, all because of war. There's no future or hope in the farewell.
So Ikanaide also means "Please don't die" at the same time.
Those notes he _doesn't_ sing at the very end are absolutely everything. His expression, the almost reluctant way he seems almost unable or unwilling to find any more words or even sounds.
He's failed. His lover went away, in spite of all the ways he pleaded with them to stay. He's mourned it with those soft little runs, and then there's just... nothing left. Only regret and silence as the music finishes.
Just breathtaking.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and so beautifully sung.
👉Dimash sang this song on the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2022. Because of the pandemic, the annual Tokyo Jazz Festival took place online again (Pandemic). In 2021 Dimash also participated in the famous annual Tokyo Online Festival with 2 songs:
* S.O.S. - ua-cam.com/video/sE-9fQTFyas/v-deo.html
* Samaltau - ua-cam.com/video/OLrFs0WRxgY/v-deo.html
The Chinese (Autuumn Strong) and Japanese (Ikanaide/ Please, Don’t Go) versions have completely different lyrics.. Both are based on a true story.
The Chinese version shows the image of leaves dancing in the autumn wind as a metaphor for how fate affected Yoshiko Yamaguchi's life. ...sad but inevitable and irrevocably
The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss, is full of pain, pleads, suffers ... heartbreaking.
I'm totally fascinated by how sensitively Dimash distinguishes and conveys to the listener the feelings of sadness and loneliness in the Chinese version and loss and pain in the Japanese version. Even his whisper and his breath are music... it breaks my heart and the tears keep flowing.I have never heard anything like this from a singer in my entire life. Only Dimash can do that. That is true mastery.
The original Japanese version Ikanaide/ Don’t Go(composed 1989) is by Koji Tamaki (*1958, Japanese songwriter).
The sad true story... very touching: It is about Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920-2014), a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan and became famous in China. However, when the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy. She was deported to Japan and longed for China. Ms. Yamaguchi did not return to China until many years as deputy environment minister in the Japanese parliament. The song is a metaphor as the lyrics speak of how a person should hide what they are feeling.
Koji Tamaki sent a wonderful message to Dimash, thanking him, and praising him for singing his song in Japanese.
Vbloggers, they reacted to the original by Koji Tamaki, they are mesmerized and can't stop listening to him. He wrote many wonderful melodies - you should check it out:
Koji Tamaki 2021, Ikanaide - ua-cam.com/video/OpgnM2MccCQ/v-deo.html
In 1993, Jacky Cheung (*1961, singer and actor in Hongkong) adapted the song into Chinese Mandarin, calling it Late Autumn: ua-cam.com/video/dtM2EsgHD3M/v-deo.html
The most famous interpretation In China (first performance at the Singer 2017) was that of Dimash Qudaibergen and it was his first time to sing in Chinese mandarin:

This song brought Dimash the 'Best Foreign Singer' award at the Golden Melody Award 2017 (equivalent to the Grammy) in Hong Kong.

Thank you so much Elisabeth! It is my favourite (and the first I’ve ever heard) song by Dimash and I am so glad you commented on it. Listening to Dimash with your comments is such a treat:) and it always helps me to appreciate his art even more:)
I was reluctant to listen to this one. I don’t know why. I’m a metal head. Glad I did. That was awesome 👏 This guy is amazing. Prolly even better if I knew what he was saying…
Please watch the original video from Dimash's official UA-cam channel it has subtitles ua-cam.com/users/DimashQudaibergen_official
If you go to the original video, I'm pretty sure English captions are available. The lyrics are heartbreaking, though Dimash conveys the emotional message so well, I rarely bother reading the captions anymore when I listen to this because the vocal delivery is sufficient to convey the full story for me now that I've read the captions once or twice. (Also, subtle nuances tend to get lost in translation, so even though the English lyrics are moving, I know they probably don't come close to capturing the full meaning of the original Japanese lyrics, so I depend on Dimash's vocals to deliver that added depth of emotion.)
You are like a mirror. While dimash singing gently you were speaking gently too. That is so great.
Holy…. I’m still amazed by Dimash even though we all know what he’s capable of
uhuuuuu, essa musica e muito linda a melodia dela, q reação vc teve lindo.
In my humble opinion this version is so much better than his Chinese one.
The Japanese language was 'made' for this song.
His singing often gives me chills it's so unlike anything else I've ever heard in my life.
Thank you Elizabeth! I've been waiting for you to react this. I am Japanese. Dimash's pronunciation is so lovely, and also it's so tender where it needs to be😊

👑 DIMASH👑
Love to have you back for Dimash. In his latest concert in Prague he sang first part in Chinese then switched to Japanese 😃
Yes, and it was a brilliant choice!
Oh now he's just showing off 😂 no I absolutely adore him and have listened to his music daily since I am singer, just need to see him live now.
Dimash does a wonderful tribute to the origin song and its moving emotional pleas of a man in love and despair. His interpretation captures the feeling and theme of the original. It's a gut wrenching song if you've witnessed the original artist's performance.
The original is about a person losing his loved one over death. But Dimash made this into his own. It's a cover but no longer just a cover.
I'm not a huge fan of this type of vocal but such a majestic performance.
Thank you for your reaction Elizabeth!! Kōji Tamaki is a Japanese singer-songwriter of Ikanaide and Dimash performed a previous version in Chinese called Autumn strong Dimash is a master of the story-telling, his voice makes you feel deep emotions and takes you there where that song happened. Beautiful!! A Japanese reactor mentioned that his softness with the hard consonants is a function of how well Dimash understands and has learned the mechanics (tongue and jaw placement) of the Japanese language. It's something very difficult for native English speakers to do. ❤️🎤🔝🔝🌹🌹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
My favorite Dimash performance ever!
Final apotheosis!
Beautiful version of Autumn Strong‼️🍁🍂
Loved how he almost wrapped his voice around the warm sounds of the cello (my favorite instrument). Always, always gives me goosebumps.

@@kellibuzzard9431 so jealous.
What is incredible to me is that he is using a mic with no wind screen, so we are hearing just as much air as he wants us to hear, no more, no less. Incredible!
Because he's not. This is the music video version. His ig pictures show the giant screen he used. This particular mic without a screen would pic up mouth sounds and change the whole feeling of the song. :)

The Chinese version was not a translation of the Japanese lyrics, so the words have a slightly different meaning which I think Dimash also reflects 🤗🇬🇧
MAGNIFICO DIMASH VOCE UNICA 👑👑👑👑❤❤❤
Yes! Those pauses! Dimash has holding the audience in bated breath, edge of seat {Oh God! What's he going to do next?! } anticipatory mode down to perfection.
🤣👍Truly a Master Class.
It's hard to see how he can improve on perfection - but he keeps doing it!
Interesting comments about the demands of vowel / language / tonal shifts. I've heard people talking about muscle memory in vocal production but you seem to be talking about 'resonance memory' - or is it essentially the same thing?
I vaguely recall some practical tutoring around this- a VEEEERY Long time ago, in Choir, when we were taught to sing in: English, Latin, German & French. Am only just now appreciating the level of skill that Choir Mistress had - and attempted to impart to us ignorant - and only vaguely interested - teenagers. Most of whom had vain dreams about 'being discovered' as Pop Stars of course, heedless of the incredible foundation we were receiving.😆
This song, "Ikanaide", represents for me the most beautiful, most touching, most inspired song of Dimash (currently) .. I never stop listening to it! Greetings of Italy. 😘♥️👋🏻🇮🇹

Dimash is No.1 Singer IN THE GALAXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That vocal range and control is quite stunning, a fabulous rendition and worthy of any audio collection. The cross between pop and opera is completely blurred, your description of the breathy, floating opening section as being "fluffy" was so very much a perfect description. I'm going to have to delve further into Dimash's catalogue and maybe tiptoe back into my opera collection - that may not sound odd to you but, as an ageing blues/jazz/rock aficionado (massive Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck and Pink Floyd fan) I can assure you that most of my friends, even the very close ones, would be amazed at scope of my musical tastes. Your channel has been such a breath of fresh hearing, I may know the work in question but I'd never considered the vocal nuances and techniques in the production of that work before, It's a bit like returning to school or college and finding that all of the stuff I'd learned had been done in a rather superficial way, skimming over the surface and ignoring or being unaware of the essence underneath that gave it grandeur. The opening section of Ikanaide gave me goosebumps, I've still got them 15 minutes later, I think that right now I'll take your advice and listen to the original, uninterrupted, and get them again.
Dimash has created an absolutely gorgeous, new level of breathiness in the opening of this song. It's as if he breathes those notes rather than singing them. The sound just melts into air, stunning!
👉Dimash sang this song on the Tokyo Jazz Festival in 2022. Because of the pandemic, the annual Tokyo Jazz Festival took place online again (Pandemic).
