A young Dutchman sets out to find places that respect the dignity of elderly people suffering from dementia. It's a journey that offers hope and new ways of caring for the elderly. His first step: moving into a care home for people with Alzheimer's, even though he is in perfectly good health.

Wish there would be more GPs who understand that taking time talking to patients is very important. Thank you for showing these brilliant examples of foreign doctors coming to work here in Ireland.
I took a healthcare provider job in Ireland once coming from America. It was so bad for my mental health. No matter how many hours you work, all the overtime goes to taxes. The weather is no joke and I faced abject racism. Two of my colleagues left abruptly. Ireland needs Irish providers who love their land.
All providers take their job seriously lol.
@@SaraanSarangil think he meant, to stay and help their own people. Very good Doctors have retired. I really miss them. They were helpful, good listener, they check you properly, they didn't look pressured.
These doctors are really impressive and resilient
She's working hard under a lot of pressure, she's trying to make a better life for herself and her family... the low birth rate of indigenous irish ( many who also move abroad for better pay and a work/life balance) and increasingly ageing population means Ireland ( as is most of Europe) going to rely on skilled migrants to prop itself up. These are skilled migrants with education and looking to give into the system.. I really do wish them luck.
Dr. Malik is lovely.
To move from far away countries to live and serve in a rural village or town is really commendable Dr. Sara and DR. Yasin we thank you for your service and sacrifice even with low wages and long hours
How can you make a statement like this. Out indigenous doctors are leaving in droves because of this influx of badly trained doctors from the third world.
@C.Hmoore u lost ur mind. SENSE has left u long time ago..😂
@@mohsinali505 Yep
@@C.HmooreThey are lured away by better pay and conditions, that is not the fault of the doctors portrayed here, who seem nothing but dedicated and hardworking. It is surely up to the government to improve conditions for the Irish doctors who are leaving. I would be happy to have either of the doctors in this program.
@C.Hmoore oooh the mighty Europe and West with best education system in the world 🌎..the greatest humans on earth, the elite of the society who can't do any harm even supporting wars and dividing other continents. Ooh hail thee people..
We have Irish Doctors who are qualified every year, but with nowhere to live and underpaid European doctor-salaries, our Irish government are actively advertising for international doctors because they are more affordable and will live in less-desirable or rural locations (which for Irish doctors are usually far away from their family and support network). This is the bold-honest truth.
This is nonsense that's the bold honest truth.
@@ELYASELYAS No it''s not!! It's the BALD truth tbh!!

So , if Irish doctors demanding desirable locations and well paying salaries . Will who serve Irish communities in less desirable locations and and with less salaries ? 🤔 , government have to fulfill the gap somehow because peoples need care no matter who does . Let Irish doctors practicing in desirable countries and the foreigners in less desirable locations in Ireland . Non sense review .
It's a win win situation for the African doctors and Ireland.
Folks do not realise that doctors and carers are needed in Africa too.
Heaven knows how the elder population there manages.
Depending on the country, the family system is very strong in many African countries. This is some of the benefit with not being hit with the industrial revolution (closer family ties).
Some people do send their parents abroad (like India, Dubai or North America) for major treatment or they handle it locally in Africa.
Elders live at home in Africa, not abandoned in some elderly home. They hardly face such issues of the the so called 1st world. They live happy with their kids and grand kids, cooking and doing lots of other stuff. They are a valuable for company and advice.
@notabolished1331
That might be so, but let's not pretend they don't have health issues, and it's quite costly to see a doc and get treatment.
@@cushconsultinggroup
If African Govts invested more money in health, more people would get access to reasonable health care.
@@truezladye1893 These elders along with their young have returned to traditional healing with herbs. Don't forget where the raw materials of modem medicine comes from 👉African herbs 🤷🤷🤷 Age definitely comes with issues, but the issues of the first world (who spent their entire lives eating plastics and breathing pesticides), are different from the health issues of African elders. Only the wealthy Africans who lived the Western lifestyle are dealing with western health issues. And those wealthy Africans do not represent the entire population: they are just a non significant minority, who hold all the wealth in their hands. The rest rely on the soil. They have money, but they must give it back to the West for cancer treatment. Such a vicious circle!!! 🤷🤷🤷🤷
I wanted to train as a graduate entry doctor and become a GP. I dreamed of working in a rural practice and serving the community. Unfortunately it would cost upwards of 64,000 Euro to train so that did not happen. There are no government supports in place to support this type of training, and there are very few loan options for those who have collateral enough to obtain one. It has been this way for a long time and nothing has been done to correct this, even as the shortage of GPs has continued to worsen. I can only assume the government just don't care to make real meaningful change to support the training and retention of doctors in this country because it might involve actually making difficult decisions. They would rather make token gestures and sit pretty while they further their political careers.
These foreign doctors are needed by their home countries FAR MORE than Ireland or rich western countries need them! They are effectively depriving their original countries from developing their economies!! Encourage Irish doctors to return home from Commonwealth countries, I say!!
Ireland doesn't have a shortage of doctors they are abroad in australia ,NZ and other countries
1+1= ??? 😂😂
40 million people abroad with irish ancestors
Were are the migrant protesters
It is because the government has failed to keep these doctors here in Ireland!! The ruling parties have failed rural Ireland miserably for decades !!
They aren't useful to Ireland, so their are shortage of Irish doctors.
Fantastic to see these professionals are investing their expertise & future in Ireland. It’s desperately needed as our young professionals are going abroad.
Ours are sent abroad leaving us with a deficit and then we get those who leave where they are from with a deficit.
All could be prevented with sensible practices that incentivise people to stay here.
@ I agree completely, and sadly looks like we will have more of the same for the foreseeable future.
Many of my Irish colleagues prefer Australia because
Less work load
Better wages

Doctors from Sudan and Pakistan come here because of the agreements between the regulatory bodies.
Why do you think they are going abroad? Follow the money from our government…where do you live and what are medical professionals paid in Ireland compared to other fully-developed countries?
@ of course they’re going abroad for a better quality of life. As the video highlighted the work/life balance here is skewed and the cost of living & housing crisis making it much more inviting to go abroad. I couldn’t blame them but I am so thankful for the doctors who come here.
I wish these two doctors well in their progress practicing medicine in Ireland. If they emigrated to Canada they would would not have got this far in our Canadian system.
I have heard of qualified from America going to Canada, have to go through lots of recheck and upgrading too.
Good luck to both DOCTORS.
Love from Germany,a Biafran saying HELLOOO!🤎🙏🏾
Gain for Ireland but loss for Africa.
It's called brain drain.
Africa is not trying to keep anybody. so Africa does not care.
Housing is a huge problem for younger people in rural Ireland.
Lovely Doctors, including the Hutch family. It is not easy to be a GP in Ireland, I see my own GP, she wants to retire, but she can't, no one to take over her practice, HSE need to step up. BTW, the autobahn is overrated.
Over 500 GP's are due to retire in Ireland over the next 24months. Community healthcare is about to collapse while we wave off our newly qualified expats!!
After watching this documentary, I will never work as a public GP 😅. They have every right to leave for better conditions
Another one of life's mystery's is we don't have enough doctors and we never had as much doctors coming in to the country.
Congratulations from West Africa to my Sudanese Doctor Sister God/Allhah bless you because it is not easy to let your love country the Republic of Sudan to migrate to other country totally different As African we support you
Could someone in Ireland explain why Irish doctors are leaving Ireland and going to work elsewhere: “According to recent data, around 442 Irish doctors were issued temporary work visas to practice in Australia”. Why can’t these doctors get jobs in Ireland. Also, studies and reports indicate that a significant number of Irish physicians practice in the US, with many choosing to emigrate due to career opportunities and better working conditions. Why is the Irish government bothering to educate people to then send them abroad to benefit other countries? Why can’t the Irish government provide competitive salaries? The government of Ireland couldn’t run a play school never mind a country. Why have they been reelected?? I feel for the doctors from SA but by the time his children are grown they will be living in the same environment they left in SA. This what happens when you have a government that runs the country for their own benefit and not the benefit of the population. It’s amazing that this has been going on since the beginning of the state and people still vote for the same civil war parties no matter how incompetent they continue to prove themselves.
Doctors that leave the country are free to do so, ultimately it's their choice
@Baloney, they leave because the moron government refuses to pay them. No one wants to go to another country to work if they can stay in their own country.
They are not well paid in Ireland. They can't find accomodation due to housing crisis and what is left been taken by foreigners 😮... mental....

You can hear a slight lilt of the Irish accent here and there when Dr. Sara is speaking, she’s certainly got the “not too bad” down to a tee 😅
Good for them to help out but I suspect Africa also needs its doctors.
A lot of people talking in the comments have no clue the training it takes to become a doctor and how many hoops you have to jump through to become a doctor if you're not trained in the region you're working. Research before you speak perhaps as it makes you look foolish.
That is the issue. In a sense it is as bad as colonialism in stealing the most talented brightest people from countries that need their own people back home. Morally bad
@@janesmith9024 It is a vicious circle, it seems.
Our governments do not respect doctors, and they do that by paying them peanuts. You need to see the doctors in my country, Uganda. A lot of them have resorted to refusing to treat patients, including surgeries, unless the patient pays first. It's that bad.
God bless you Sara
It's the same story all over these EU countries!! Governments in these EU countries only focus on the big cities like Dublin. They have no interest in the people of rural areas, and they have completely abandoned them !! Rural Ireland has been totally neglected and has been suffering for decades !! The same thing happened in the UK for decades, which made people vote for Brexit in 2016 !!

@@naaylward4988 Okay and I agree with that, perhaps Ireland should be ensuring that there are good working conditions and a reasonable salary for young Doctors in Ireland. We need to make sure that our medical staff are safe in their working environment, tough working such long hours and in A&E with no security. I have witnessed medical staff being abused in Irish hospitals, it is so wrong to treat professionals, like they are treated in Irish hospitals, as well as clients being badly treated in A&E by unruly and intoxicated individuals.

Ireland is not part of the Schengen area, it is what it is.

As a PA, it's too bad there aren't opportunities for PAs and NPs to help out! I would certainly be interested
Nurses could lighten the load if they were allowed to do basics for prescriptions ...chest and throat infections for instance .
They have Physician Associates who can help too
@@tomgreene1843 exactly 💯
There's usually no problem if the patient has an easy and straightforward case , a nurse or a P.A can handle it just fine. But the problem comes in not knowing whether it will be that simple, the most dangerous diseases usually present as simple conditions which won't get flagged unless someone has the extensive training. So it's between taking a risk and possibly under treating patients in life threatening cases or only accepting the best care which comes with long waiting lines.
Most of these developed countries choose the latter.
Apart from there is a shortage of nurses too and not enough hours in the day to do their own work.
Ireland could get doctors from Cuba. They have alot of train personnel and other countries send people to Cuba for medical training.😎

It is not just the doctor; the WHOLE HEALTH SERVICE for decades has been blighted by POOR MANAGEMENT with not what you "know but rather who you know" culture. This culture or one ability-to-pay culture if you cannot has in part of thealth minister over the year have orivatised the health service.. Government positions are filled by people not qualified. Even if all of the Irish doctors were retained and housing prices were lower, you would still need non-Irish doctors to work in rural areas. Ireland is behind in healthcare. They need nurse practitioners and physician assistance. They also need walk in clinics.
Our own Irish doctors & nurses are forced to leave the country they were born in, because of high rents and shortages of housing. Most Irish patients would rather be dealt with by an Irish person, quite simply because the bond is stronger amongst fellow people. If foreign born health care staff stopped coming to Ireland, then maybe the powers that be would intice the natives to return/stay. Lower tax/interest rates, something.
