    I have an Axminster extractor turning up Monday.. just ordered the switch. Thanks for the very informative video.. I will also be wall mounting the unit, so will have to make a bracket like you have!

      Glad I could help, the Mens shed I volunteer at has just ordered one too, I'll be doing a similar mod on that one

    So glad i found this video. I just received my new cyclone dust collector, and I was looking to purchase one of the remote relays as seen in your video. I never gave it a thought that my dust collector may have an NVR switch (typically referred to as a magnetic switch in the US). I wouldve messed up my first try at wiring this up.

      I think in Europe they are all like this now. I'm glad the video was helpful, thanks for watching.

    Thanks! Am wiring similar for my dust collector. Have used remote for 12v DC and was unsure about which wires to put to control box.

      You are welcome! Glad I could help, I've been using it for over a year and it's not let me down. Good luck.

    Hi Simon. Your vid was very helpful, and I'm so glad i bought the remote relay, and wish id done it earlier. A cheap one from Temu (China) was perfectly fine and cost only ~$10 Aussie dollars. My tip is when you order the relay, also order the connectors a the same time. I did what you did and made short connector wires with the spade on one end and fork on the other, and heat shrunk them. Cheers!

      Glad it helped, mine is still working with no problems other than finding the key fob! Thanks for watching!

    Good job of a great mod to your dust extractor Simon, nice one… ✅ 👏🏻

    Nice job, much fancier than mine, I use one of those remote control sockets and I wired the motor directly to the mains cable, taking out the NVR.

      That's great, there's always many ways to solve a problem :-)

    hi. great video. I have the Axminister ac153 and I want to add the same remote switch. I have looked inside the nvr switch and there is a white wire that attaches to a separate smaller spade connector on the switch its self. Did you have this and if so what did you do with the wire.

      Check the diagram here ua-cam.com/video/xeHdBSRnnpw/v-deo.html at 2:34 it shows the white wires and how they are wired.

    Great vid simon, on a different subject i have had to remove the cast iron table top to re align the riving knife as found it all but impossible to do it with table top on, the bolts for levelling moved and didnt realise now i have to re level the t/top, so this leads to my next question could you help me out by measuring the four corners from the top of the table to the main saw unit where the adjusters are this would be so helpful, on the bright side the riving knife is now set correctly and the grub screws are are in with lock thread.

      Hi, I think you mean the height from the top surface to the top of the grey painted frame, front left =50.99mm, back left 50.96mm, I can't get to the RH side as I have the table extension fitted. BTW, I move the grub screws for the riving knife with my fingers, as you say, it's a bit tight for Allan keys. Hope this helps, if this is not what you were after just reply and I'll do my best to answer.

    Hi Simon, I got myself a used Axminster dust extractor today, and I can see the benefits of using a remote switch like this.
    How is the switch holding up, any issues at all? Thanks.

    Hello can some one help me i have a Holzmann ABS3880 Twin Bag Wood Chip Dust Extractor i would like to put a pull cord on the Ceiling of my workshop or a Remote Control to this dust extractor?

    • @DIYTinkerer
      @DIYTinkerer  Рік тому

      Hi sorry I've not got one of those, but I doubt a ceiling pull cord used for lights will be rated high enough.

    • @lankisherjohn8262
      @lankisherjohn8262 Рік тому +1

      You would probably be able to use a shower pull switch rated at 30 Amps

    @jwflame how safe/unsafe do you think this is?

    • @jwflame
      @jwflame Рік тому

      Not really any different. The old switch was a cheapo thing anyway and was just a switch, no overload trip.
      Very likely that the remote one is off by default, so any power failure would result in it not automatically starting, which is exactly how the old one worked.
      Minor risk of it being switched on remotely unexpectedly, but that's why machines are isolated and locked off before any work is done on them - no one should just rely on the NVR switch for isolation.

    • @javipk7
      @javipk7 Рік тому

      @@jwflame thanks JW. and if it was a DOL starter? not very straightforward to use that RC switch since DOL has a Momentarily push NO start and a NC stop.. maybe with 2 RC switches..

    • @DIYTinkerer
      @DIYTinkerer  Рік тому +2

      Yep I always unplug mine, when changing te bag and it is off by default. Messing with anything you need to consider the risks that might result, I decided that I could live with these risks on a dust extractor, I certainly wouldn't come to the same conclusion with some other tools. :-)
