It is very dangerous for the children. The bus driver in my neighborhood has resorted to pulling the bus across the road and blocking the entire road to get people to stop.
*I think it’s a dumb law that both directions must stop on a 5 lane road (incld turn lane). And the reporter said “putting the kids at risk“… How? I call BS.* Yeah technically kids could cross the road even though they aren’t supposed to cross... but, if the bus stopped on a side street right off the highway then the highway traffic would NOT need to stop but a kid could still run across the highway just the same. And something tells me some kids will cross the highway BUT before the bus is ever there. The law (in most states) says if there is any raised divider, including a small curb divider that’s just 6inches wide (for example), that cross traffic does not need to stop. But again I’ll say, kids could still run across the street. I absolutely believe in ticketing drivers that pass bus stops when it’s dangerous. But not on a multi-lane highway. Also, don't think the bus’s stop sign and lights show up that well with the sun shining on the bus or toward the driver’s eyes, especially when a driver has a big road to focus on plus has to watch for cars pulling onto the busy road.
What makes some things confusing is when traffic is coming from the opposite direction. I was before I retired as safety officer for one of the world's largest trucking companie. One of my responsibilities is knowing what the laws are in my state. The biggest thing that most of the drivers did not know about was school buses. Now we are talking about men and women who have commercial driver's license and in some cases 20-30 years of experience. When I would throw up a picture and ask what traffic would have to stop for school bus with its red lights on everyone new behind the bus had to stop. They all knew if there was one lane going one way and one lane going the other way that you would have to stop coming in the opposite direction. Where I started losing most people is when you show a four-lane highway similar to this one in the story. I would have to say at least a good 80% of the people that I was reviewing safety with did not know that they had to stop coming the opposite way. The one big difference is if there's a divider in the road then traffic coming the opposite way does not need to stop. I think one of the best things out there is when the news gets involved and can educate people on what the rules of the road are in their area. I always told the drivers when in doubt stop and wait.
WOW! I mean it's part of getting your DL in the first place. And common sense anyway because the MAIN reason for the law is that all children who need to get to the other side are going to cross past the other side.

Again I’m not trying to start an argument, I did look up several sites on your state which stated the same thing.

we dont have all this school bus stop nonsense over here in the U.k, we teach kids to look both ways before crossing the roads, if the kids are too young to do that then the parents should hold onto the kids hand while crossing roads - simple
I remember when I was little our bus stop was on the corner in our subdivision. It was the corner lot so we would stay up in the rocks in the guys yard (he had no problem with this). During winter he would hire an out her neighbor (who owned a snow plow service) to clear his driveway so we could stand on there. (The house owner was a pilot and wasn’t always home). He let us stand there so it was safer if the bus or a car missed the turn where the bus stop was. And then us kids didn’t have to stand in snow. One of our neighbors ended up calling the school and the cops because when we would stand in the driveway and the bus would pick us up there “we weren’t at the bus stop” The bus driver pretty much said f u and told us to stand in the driveway and he would wait for us to all walk to the corner, just so he “could pick us up at the bus stop”.
The cars on the opposite side of the road are actually not required to stop as there is a 5th lane in between the two lanes that is used for turning. Drivers are to treat is as a raised medium and use caution whilst proceeding. This is the case in my state. The people just driving past the bus in the same direction that the bus is facing, are supposed to stop and are breaking the law.
It is required for vehicles on the opposite side of the road to stop if there is a painted median. However they are not required to stop if there is an unpaved median or raised median. That is the law in Florida. However in my state it is not required that you have to stop on the opposite side of the road if there is a median in there. Not trying to start an argument but I do understand your comment that you are referring to your state.
I know when I pull up on a stopped school bus the driver makes eye contact with me/the person in the first car. And THEN turns on the red lights. This is on a 2 lane road. Then he nods when he starts to go like saying "Thank you!" I've been there before I road a school bus until my junior year of high school.
Just make it felony child endangerment to pass a stopped school buss with stop signs out, send the pricks to prison. Enough with the tickets that dont do anything.
I remember I was out driving with my mom (It was a school day, I was sick and going to the doctor early in the morning) and the morning bus was at a bus stop and had their stop sign out. My mom stopped and all these cars were honking at her to go, speeding past the DOORS of the bus! Everyone just kept passing us lol
@Jasiri Bandele People have places to go? OK, continue with your comment. I’m sure there’s some line of reasoning behind what you said, so please clarify, so we can understand.
I'm a new school bus driver and I've already had numerous instances of people blowing my reds. Before I open my door, I check traffic to see how close any cars are to my bus. I let the ones close to me go through before I open my door and deploy my lights and sign. I have had numerous conversations with my kids about this. Thankfully, I've only got maybe ten kids who need to cross the street when I drop them off. I've moved where I've picked my kids up and where I drop them off just to avoid many of these concerns. I may be new to being a bus driver, but I know for sure that nothing is more important than making sure ALL my kids are safe.
If school districts really cared for the children's safety, they would pick safer bus stop locations, preferably on small residential roads that don't regularly have a lot of traffic. It doesn't make much sense having busses stop in the middle of a large busy road that will cause confusion, traffic delays, and even possibly an accident on the road, especially if that bus in the video was going to turn right on a much less traveled street anyways. I get it that drivers should stop for the school bus, but this is really poor planning on the school districts part.
Sure would be nice if local news shows would review the traffic laws pertaining to stopped buses at the beginning of each school year. They could also mention the laws while reporting each accident involving a student that happens during the school year.
Im a medical student. My first night and first patient on trauma call was a gentleman who got hit by and flipped over a car. He had blunt force trauma to his head and chest and broke his left femur (more like severed). He arrived GCS 3 with a large laceration on his head, severe orbital swelling, large bruising on his chest, multiple abrasions in diffuse parts of his body, and a left leg that was rotated too far for lying supine. He required a neurosurgical consult to decompress his cranium for intracranial bleeding and given mannitol for the same purpose, and had to have his eyes surgically decompressed to avoid blindness from swelling caused by the trauma. They had to measure the extraocular pressure and use scalpules to cut the sides of his eyelids open to drain any blood or fluid and allow for swelling. I do not know if he survived. Welcome to trauma call... Take all this and imagine a kid leaving the school bus.

I like how these parents think. You tell em!!!
Here in Portland Maine whenever Bus School stops, both side must Stop.
You are right and wrong, please note I am not trying to start an argument with you. But if there is a barrier or a curb that separates the roads in the median then you do not have to stop on the opposite side of the road per the guidelines pertaining to your state. Again I’m not trying to start an argument, I did look up several sites on your state which stated the same thing.
Its easy to stop this from happening, get permission from the government and attach a electrically adjustable rod to the Bush's stop sign to stop drivers.
or just tell ur kids not to run in tha damn road or better yet a highway with cars on it.....
@@jasiribandele5601 do you understand the purpose of the flashing lights and stop sign? I don't think you've grasped it.
we dont have all this school bus stop nonsense over here in the U.k, we teach kids to look both ways before crossing the roads, if the kids are too young to do that then the parents should hold onto the kids hand while crossing roads - simple
it's Very Funny that When The Woman Said YOU BETTER STOP!
The whole state needs more cops.
One of our neighbors ended up calling the school and the cops because when we would stand in the driveway and the bus would pick us up there “we weren’t at the bus stop”
The bus driver pretty much said f u and told us to stand in the driveway and he would wait for us to all walk to the corner, just so he “could pick us up at the bus stop”.
In my state the opposing lane is required to stop unless a physical barrier or median is there
If I ever have kids, I would do the same thing! 🛑 please stop when you see red lights! There is precious cargo on those buses!
There in Florida don’t waste your time with school.

Most people probably don't realize that both sides of traffic have to come to a stop.
Well just enter the neighborhood!
Yeah, great fun turning a 40 ft bus around in the cul-de-sac with all the pre-school kids playing hacky sac!
@@wssides they said it was part of the bus route
This is why I ride with my mom.
I am glad that I don't take the school bus when I was a kid in NY. : )
I would risk my life to help those kids
I remember I was out driving with my mom (It was a school day, I was sick and going to the doctor early in the morning) and the morning bus was at a bus stop and had their stop sign out. My mom stopped and all these cars were honking at her to go, speeding past the DOORS of the bus! Everyone just kept passing us lol
bc ppl have places to go
@@jasiribandele5601 Too Bad, they should go to jail then, they will have much time while there. You are part of the problem!!!!!
@@jasiribandele5601 evidently no you don't have places to be or else you'd be on the freeway
@Jasiri Bandele People have places to go? OK, continue with your comment. I’m sure there’s some line of reasoning behind what you said, so please clarify, so we can understand.
isn't the door of the bus facing the sidewalk? How can cars speed past the door(s)?
All those drivers who passed should loose there license

The Grammar Police seems to be out in force today.
If any kid gets killed the police should be charged with negligence
I'm a new school bus driver and I've already had numerous instances of people blowing my reds. Before I open my door, I check traffic to see how close any cars are to my bus. I let the ones close to me go through before I open my door and deploy my lights and sign. I have had numerous conversations with my kids about this. Thankfully, I've only got maybe ten kids who need to cross the street when I drop them off. I've moved where I've picked my kids up and where I drop them off just to avoid many of these concerns. I may be new to being a bus driver, but I know for sure that nothing is more important than making sure ALL my kids are safe.
Tell Anna price that you must stop when the school bus stop sign is out and in my school district all the cars stop when the bus is stopped
Where I'm from we have dividers in all the busy places the traffic on the other side doesn't have to stop.
“Everyone who hates traffic tickets, raise your right foot”
Sure would be nice if local news shows would review the traffic laws pertaining to stopped buses at the beginning of each school year.
They could also mention the laws while reporting each accident involving a student that happens during the school year.
Oh wow that's crazy I know where this is I used to go to that school
Kimora Lee weird flex but ok
Wow must be weird seeing it on a video
Simple fix, have the bus pick up the kids on the side of the road
You’re legally suppose to stop on both sides, except if there is an unpaved median in the middle, the opposite side of the road does not have ti stop.
Every state is different. Like i live oregon if a median is spliting a 2 way road you do not have to stop or slow down in the other side of road.
You go girl
The school district needs to fit those swing-out stop signs to their buses.
Even after it was all over the news about the 3 siblings that were killed and a 4th boy severely injured by a woman who refused to stop, they keep blowing past it. People know you’re supposed to stop on both sides they just claim ignorance to try and get out of trouble.
Anyone realize the same white 392 Dodge Charger Scatpack drive pass every single day
Yeah, it's almost like they have a regular M-F job with set hours. Crazy huh.
@@TsuNaru Yup lol

Here in Canada it's a $2,000 dollar fine for passing a school bus that has stopped letting children off. Don't know what it is in the States. Same I'd assume?
Stop on the red don’t make the driver see red.
With zero tolerance for this would be great $2000 fine and 3 months suspension of their drivers license would really fix the problems
at least in texas i know accros the road like that you dont but if your on the same road you do
Bruh why would cars on the other side of the road stop for a bus that is coming from the other direction?
That's what I was thinking .WTF drama queens.
Jon P81 right? Lmfao all they want is attention
although the law does require they stop since there’s no physical median, it’s still pretty retarded
ive driven this area before coming off of I4 and most people travel at 50-55mph on the road so the problem itself is with the location of the stop
@Stephen Sullivan Who said I get tickets, I stated that it's utter bs
Stephen Sullivan it is bs since there’s many (in proximity) safer, more convenient locations to put the bus stop. quite frankly, unless you show me your FLDHSMV ID your opinion on whether others should be able to drive is utterly useless ;)
Drivers should stop and listen
I drive a Dump truck and take up two lanes when I see a Bus dropping off kids…. Having kids of my own all I want is for the kids to get safely to home.
In my 30 years of driving; I've driven very fast, ran red lights, stop signs, do not enter signs, cut people off, passed on a solid line, passed on a curb, doughnuts, DWIs, but I NEVER, EVER, EVER drove passed a stopped school bus.. I always stopped for the kids!! I love kids and when a school bus stops for loading and unloading.. I stop period!!! As old as I am, I don't do the other violations anymore..
Perfect law make the bus take up all the lanes
That really just puts more lives at risk than it does saves
If you think about it not really if all cares are gonna be stopped
Junior NIP do that when people are going 40 or 50, that’s the equivalent to pulling out infront of 70 mph traffic in an 18-wheeler, if there was a clear gap, then it’s safe.
Rocky The Car Pup exactly
MAKE THE STOP SIGN BIGGER
It’s very sad but I recently met a young lady whose 17 year old brother got hit by a car who didn’t stop.
Her brother was in a coma and now is awake but can only move his fingers. The lady didn’t even brother to stop
I hope that lady is sitting in prison where she deserved to be!!!! His quality of life seems not good, so her quality of life should be just as effected. I pray that God will touch your brother and heal him!!!
And worse yet aren’t you supposed to stay One or 200 feet away from the bus and Not right up by it
exactly.
A car slammed into the back of one of the buses at my school. Kids were interviewed and everything. I wasn't on the bus that got hit but damn it was awful.
Change the location, Dah!! If I was the driver I would have done it anyway!! Safety first!!
in fl A stop is NOT required when approaching a stopped bus from the opposite direction upon a highway of four or more lanes. You must stop at least thirty feet from a stopped school bus that is loading or unloading children
What pisses me off is my 4 year old son has to be buckled in so the bus is there for longer. I constantly standing in the street and yell at people for passing that stop sign. Makes my blood boil
When I called the police about car passing school when the red lights are on first thing they ask is anyone hurt...my question is so you’re waiting until someone get kill or hit.....ummm I’m confused
bc they not finna aresst sumbody or waste their time for tht karen..
That is Absolutely Unacceptable!
No it’s not! It’s a good thing to run stop signs! Freedom matters
That stop shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Worst spot ever.

Good Karens vs the Bad Karens
They just don't listen. Omg
I work on a bus, stop sign goes out and even the public busses still fly past the sign.
But it is such a ridiculous rule. Just build a safe bus stop or learn kids to watch for traffic before they walk.
Why they crossing big roads like that anyway ? Even if traffic is stopped, somebody could just floor it and run the kid over
So the sheriff would of never took action if they never report it to the local news....
They should retake the roadtest and written test 12hour course all over again
