If she had to ask if the cars on the other side of the road had to stop, shows she is part of the problem I said why don't they put the stop around the corner where there isn't much traffic. People are so stupid now a day.. A very easy simple fix before a kid gets killed. even though I didn't see any kids crossing the street,
Actually, at my kid's school, he was part of a little orchestra in 1st grade, playing cello. People kept parking in the bus parking spaces when they came to pick up their kids (even though everyone lives within walking distance of the school, requirement for being a student). Everyone seemed to think it was ok because it was an after-school program of sorts so school rules didn't apply but these are road laws. The bus had to park in the road and the kids had to get off in the road and some people would drive right by where the kids come off, almost killing a few kids a few times. I started going to cars and recording people and telling them I'm sending the videos to the police if they don't move out the bus parking zones. Next week, other people were doing the same thing as me because the people parked in the bus zone again. Contacted the school and the police, they EVENTUALLY sent cops. A few years later I passed by during an afterschool pick up on my way to the store and noticed no one parked in the bus zone anymore. Yeah, maybe one person can't make a whole difference alone, but it takes ONE person to start the difference. Everyone there in cars argued "it's always been like this". Well not anymore.
At first I was wondering what the big deal was because they are on the other side of the road.. but then I realised it is US law because kids walk across the road at the back of the bus, potentially in front of on coming cars. It makes sense. We don't have that law in Australia. But then, we don't really have school buses either.
I drive a Dump truck and take up two lanes when I see a Bus dropping off kids…. Having kids of my own all I want is for the kids to get safely to home.
Harry Wersely I get they want to keep kids safe, but someone not stopping on the opposite side of the road is not going to have any impact on safety. It’s a main road with no stoplight so kids shouldn’t be stopping anyway. Why does the bus stop on the main road too?
You are right and wrong, please note I am not trying to start an argument with you. But if there is a barrier or a curb that separates the roads in the median then you do not have to stop on the opposite side of the road per the guidelines pertaining to your state. Again I’m not trying to start an argument, I did look up several sites on your state which stated the same thing.
The cars on the opposite side of the road are actually not required to stop as there is a 5th lane in between the two lanes that is used for turning. Drivers are to treat is as a raised medium and use caution whilst proceeding. This is the case in my state. The people just driving past the bus in the same direction that the bus is facing, are supposed to stop and are breaking the law.
It is required for vehicles on the opposite side of the road to stop if there is a painted median. However they are not required to stop if there is an unpaved median or raised median. That is the law in Florida. However in my state it is not required that you have to stop on the opposite side of the road if there is a median in there. Not trying to start an argument but I do understand your comment that you are referring to your state.
I remember I was out driving with my mom (It was a school day, I was sick and going to the doctor early in the morning) and the morning bus was at a bus stop and had their stop sign out. My mom stopped and all these cars were honking at her to go, speeding past the DOORS of the bus! Everyone just kept passing us lol
@Jasiri Bandele People have places to go? OK, continue with your comment. I’m sure there’s some line of reasoning behind what you said, so please clarify, so we can understand.
This is simple people. If you are behind a bus and the lights flash and the stop sign comes out, and you are driving on the opposing side, you must stop at all times either side. I think, and maybe I am wrong about this, but if you are driving on the other side and a barricade is between, you do not have to stop, but whenever you must stop, then for Pete's sake stop. Keep your idiocy at home.
I know when I pull up on a stopped school bus the driver makes eye contact with me/the person in the first car. And THEN turns on the red lights. This is on a 2 lane road. Then he nods when he starts to go like saying "Thank you!" I've been there before I road a school bus until my junior year of high school.
If school districts really cared for the children's safety, they would pick safer bus stop locations, preferably on small residential roads that don't regularly have a lot of traffic. It doesn't make much sense having busses stop in the middle of a large busy road that will cause confusion, traffic delays, and even possibly an accident on the road, especially if that bus in the video was going to turn right on a much less traveled street anyways. I get it that drivers should stop for the school bus, but this is really poor planning on the school districts part.
Its easy to stop this from happening, get permission from the government and attach a electrically adjustable rod to the Bush's stop sign to stop drivers.
I'm a new school bus driver and I've already had numerous instances of people blowing my reds. Before I open my door, I check traffic to see how close any cars are to my bus. I let the ones close to me go through before I open my door and deploy my lights and sign. I have had numerous conversations with my kids about this. Thankfully, I've only got maybe ten kids who need to cross the street when I drop them off. I've moved where I've picked my kids up and where I drop them off just to avoid many of these concerns. I may be new to being a bus driver, but I know for sure that nothing is more important than making sure ALL my kids are safe.
Even after it was all over the news about the 3 siblings that were killed and a 4th boy severely injured by a woman who refused to stop, they keep blowing past it. People know you’re supposed to stop on both sides they just claim ignorance to try and get out of trouble.
The is partialy the district's fault for putting the school bus stop at a bad location, but once it his there and the school bus had that STOP sign out you MUST STOP til it's put down by the school bus driver.
Im a medical student. My first night and first patient on trauma call was a gentleman who got hit by and flipped over a car. He had blunt force trauma to his head and chest and broke his left femur (more like severed). He arrived GCS 3 with a large laceration on his head, severe orbital swelling, large bruising on his chest, multiple abrasions in diffuse parts of his body, and a left leg that was rotated too far for lying supine. He required a neurosurgical consult to decompress his cranium for intracranial bleeding and given mannitol for the same purpose, and had to have his eyes surgically decompressed to avoid blindness from swelling caused by the trauma. They had to measure the extraocular pressure and use scalpules to cut the sides of his eyelids open to drain any blood or fluid and allow for swelling. I do not know if he survived. Welcome to trauma call... Take all this and imagine a kid leaving the school bus.
Sure would be nice if local news shows would review the traffic laws pertaining to stopped buses at the beginning of each school year. They could also mention the laws while reporting each accident involving a student that happens during the school year.
Don't get me wrong, this is of course wrong that they don't stop for the school bus, but they should be much more concerned about children walking around with weapons at school. Parents must immediately teach their children, regardless of their age, to look carefully before crossing the road and never run into the road and make them aware that there is always traffic that may not see you in time.

Here in Canada it's a $2,000 dollar fine for passing a school bus that has stopped letting children off. Don't know what it is in the States. Same I'd assume?
"They put a lot of care and thought into where they stop" oh that's bull. Busses stop on interstates all the time when they could just turn in a few feet. I've seen kids almost get hit because of how poorly bus stops are designed. And the driver isn't allowed to go against the stop, even if it is safer they HAVE to do the way they were told. Don't even try to pass it off as though it's impossible for there to be a bad location because I see more bad locations than good.
As a driver of a Sanitation Truck for 30 years I see this happening so I would stop but if the kids are getting off on the right side I really think if it’s like that a caution light if the kids need to cross the street ok stop sign yes but the driver of the bus needs to get off with a sign in hand to cross the child . But like this bus stop is in a 45 mph area no no pull off to the side street yes keep the kids safe of course but there needs to be something done and one more thing when a parent of someone starts to talk to the driver after the kids are off the bus and gone there they are talking away and not giving a crap that’s happened to me many times. So I hope something is done for the kids safety and drivers don’t be so ignorant.

But then, we don't really have school buses either.
in some state if it is a 4 lane highway, only the 2 lanes going in the same direction have to stop
Most people probably don't realize that both sides of traffic have to come to a stop.
We she yells “aaaay” they slowed down 😂
I drive a Dump truck and take up two lanes when I see a Bus dropping off kids…. Having kids of my own all I want is for the kids to get safely to home.
"We staked out the bus stop for four days" Not weird at all, you know.
Harry Wersely I get they want to keep kids safe, but someone not stopping on the opposite side of the road is not going to have any impact on safety. It’s a main road with no stoplight so kids shouldn’t be stopping anyway. Why does the bus stop on the main road too?
@@ryanhall8770 no, why aren't people more vigilant. No mercy on these drivers. SLOW DOWN.
@@georgemurphy2579 agreed.
@@ryanhall8770 dude, this is illegal. there *supposed* to stop. there's a fine for it.
ʚ.plushie.ɞ sorry I didn’t mean to come off as not caring because you’re right

Here in Portland Maine whenever Bus School stops, both side must Stop.
This is why in elementary school, my dad would record whenever the bus came and he caught 2 cars and they got a pretty hefty fine.
She said she’ll stop for your kids lol I doubt that
why
she probably will
You are the problem
1:14 "You better.. STOP!"
Love that line.
this is why my dad prefers to drive me to school
In my state the opposing lane is required to stop unless a physical barrier or median is there
Tell Anna price that you must stop when the school bus stop sign is out and in my school district all the cars stop when the bus is stopped
You’re legally suppose to stop on both sides, except if there is an unpaved median in the middle, the opposite side of the road does not have ti stop.
I remember I was out driving with my mom (It was a school day, I was sick and going to the doctor early in the morning) and the morning bus was at a bus stop and had their stop sign out. My mom stopped and all these cars were honking at her to go, speeding past the DOORS of the bus! Everyone just kept passing us lol
bc ppl have places to go
@@jasiribandele5601 Too Bad, they should go to jail then, they will have much time while there. You are part of the problem!!!!!
@@jasiribandele5601 evidently no you don't have places to be or else you'd be on the freeway
@Jasiri Bandele People have places to go? OK, continue with your comment. I’m sure there’s some line of reasoning behind what you said, so please clarify, so we can understand.
isn't the door of the bus facing the sidewalk? How can cars speed past the door(s)?
Drivers should stop and listen
If school districts really cared for the children's safety, they would pick safer bus stop locations, preferably on small residential roads that don't regularly have a lot of traffic. It doesn't make much sense having busses stop in the middle of a large busy road that will cause confusion, traffic delays, and even possibly an accident on the road, especially if that bus in the video was going to turn right on a much less traveled street anyways. I get it that drivers should stop for the school bus, but this is really poor planning on the school districts part.
Simple fix, have the bus pick up the kids on the side of the road
As a school bus driver I see this all the time. It sickens me that people are that blind and can’t see a giant yellow bus.
I feel like most ppl are using that as an excuse for “I saw the school bus but I didn’t feel like stopping”
If any kid gets killed the police should be charged with negligence
Its easy to stop this from happening, get permission from the government and attach a electrically adjustable rod to the Bush's stop sign to stop drivers.
or just tell ur kids not to run in tha damn road or better yet a highway with cars on it.....
@@jasiribandele5601 do you understand the purpose of the flashing lights and stop sign? I don't think you've grasped it.
And worse yet aren’t you supposed to stay One or 200 feet away from the bus and Not right up by it
exactly.
I like how these parents think. You tell em!!!
This is when you have a hand full of rocks to toss at the passing cars
I got a hand full of bullets to shoot at property damages
So you'd replace careless driving with destruction of property? Class act. Right in front of the kids, too. (I'm being sarcastic fyi)
@@ItsMotoMatt oh ya ik and tbh I'd rather take distruction of property th3n seeing kids die from idiot drivers
Where I'm from we have dividers in all the busy places the traffic on the other side doesn't have to stop.
This is why I ride with my mom.
Sch. Bus laws should be on driver's license test and retested before license renewals
Every state is different. Like i live oregon if a median is spliting a 2 way road you do not have to stop or slow down in the other side of road.
The stop signs with white outlines are optional

Don't get me wrong, this is of course wrong that they don't stop for the school bus,
but they should be much more concerned about children walking around with weapons at school.
Parents must immediately teach their children, regardless of their age, to look carefully before crossing the road
and never run into the road and make them aware that there is always traffic that may not see you in time.
The school district needs to fit those swing-out stop signs to their buses.
I would risk my life to help those kids
Well just enter the neighborhood!
Yeah, great fun turning a 40 ft bus around in the cul-de-sac with all the pre-school kids playing hacky sac!

The whole state needs more cops.
Just add a remote controlled spike strip the driver can activate when they stop

Why they crossing big roads like that anyway ? Even if traffic is stopped, somebody could just floor it and run the kid over

Here in Canada it's a $2,000 dollar fine for passing a school bus that has stopped letting children off. Don't know what it is in the States. Same I'd assume?
Stop on the red don’t make the driver see red.
If some kid gets hurt or killed, what happens then?!!!
Someone gets sued
yea. its so sad.
Why is there a bus stop on a busy road?
I'm looking through the comments and I'm going like "wtf did I just read?" I read one comment saying "these ladies look stupid" and another saying " kids should start learning how to cross the road". I guess these people never read the book word for word.
Well kids need to be taught that cars won’t always stop, because they are always running across the road with no awareness

And you'd be correct in some states. Point is, if you are driving in a state you are unfamiliar with, then stop.
