Two of the common ways of how Filipinos celebrate Christmas are family gathering and partying and exchanging/giving gifts.

Christmas is celebrated with family in the Philippines and its usually huge gathering of clans, I remember Korean vlogger/influencer Jinho said he kinda felt alone when he experience Christmas in the Philippines but at the same time happy to see how Filipino families gather together to celebrate Christmas- in a very fun and memorable way..

The reason why these two Koreans can’t relate to any of these is because Christmas in Korea is about going out with your friends and especially with your partners. It’s not the same as western countries and the Philippines that it involves such a family-oriented celebrations. The family oriented celebration that they relate to are the Lunar New year celebrations because that’s when they get together as families to cook and give gifts.

Some of the clips are not from the Philippines but probably Filipinos living abroad, pretty obvious with the sweaters but yeah the games, the karaoke, it is a family affair. I believe in South Korea, Christmas is for couples, the day for them to date but if you are single or married with kids it is just a typical day, their family day is usually held during Korean thanksgiving.

Like Christmas Party is common on family reunions, workplace, etc. , also, the "Money thing" ( called Pamasko) is given by the Ninong or Ninangs, Tito and Tita at the family gatherings too ( or if Christmas Party from workplace, it is a gift)

I hope they won't expect to see those types of gatherings when they actually come to the Philippines during the Christmas holidays because so far all the videos are of Filipinos in America or rich Filipino families. For those of us who don't have big families, it's not always that big of a guest list. The most important part of celebrating Christmas in the Philippines are the Christmas light shows and eating with the family on Christmas eve. We don't always do games or have the same amount of enthusiasm as the ones on the videos on Christmas eve itself. I have a feeling that there was a video where they showed an office Christmas party instead of a family Christmas party. Office Christmas parties are held earlier before the workers go on vacation and those are the ones with all the games and prizes because most office Christmas parties encourage their workers to bring some of their families. Although the videos with the decorations are on point (but not all malls are decorated like that), some of the videos don't really show what real Christmas in the Philippines is like. I just hoped there was someone with them to explain. Maybe try that next time it's always better to share real experiences with them rather than just making them watch Tiktok videos.

Actually ber months for Christmas is not a tradition or old custom. It only happen when people started buying christmas gift and decoration as early as October to avoid Christmas rush in shopping malls on December. And Christmas songs started playing on radio station. So one day the government made it official that the ber months is the start of christmas season. It was supposed to be from October but since Ber month also include Sept that why it is from Sept to Dec. It is mostly the christmas preparation. But the Official Christmas season is still Dec 25. It is just that filipino are excited for Actual Christmas because of Christmas party, exchange gifts and holiday leaves.
