    I've used this cart for two years. It is great. Wheelbarrows rust out, they are unstable, and mixing concrete in a wheelbarrow is somewhat limited. I have also used this cart for many projects and it has always worked well. I moved 250 pound landscaping rocks with this cart by rolling it into the cart with the front end down. Mixing concrete in this worked well for me -- easy to wash out also.

    Just bought one of these used from a guy on Craigslist so far used it to move materials for a huge patio ... heavy stone dust and crushed stone dirt and all kinds of things .. paid 75 and worth every penny i kind of thought it may blow out from the abuse but took it like a champ. The only thing is the wheel bearings are squeaky . I put some oil in there but it dosnt last I wish I could modify it with some nice ball bearings but happy otherwise ....great video thanks

    Great video! I have one. I have used and abused it for about ten years. It is cumbersome and heavy for me but it has been a work horse. It is stored out in the weather and still keeps going. Because of it's size, I did purchase a little regular wheelbarrow last year. Now I have the best of both worlds :)

    I got cheap containers burred in the ground wit a small hole half way up the side to let the water over flow, excellent to grow vegs or flowers.

    Love mine: If mine broke I would replace immediately because it gets frequently for over five years and mine is rarely stored inside and I live in Houston. One obvious feature that has not been mentioned: With a standard one (wheel) wheelbarrow two hands one can carry something in hand while pushing or pulling it. I have carried many full propane cylinders over two city blocks using this way over 300 pounds and this tool and handled it with little trouble.

    I just bought one of these. I'm on the fence a out it. While it's great for many of the reasons mentioned here, when I get anywhere near that 300 lb limit, the axle buckles and the top of the wheels comes in near the tub.
    This makes it harder to maneuver, and I've had them strike the tub as I push it while the axle flexes as it bounces over bumps an whatnot.
    The axle is far too flimsy, and the slip in the wheel around the axle doesn't help either.
    Now I find myself looking into modifying it with a sturdier axle and wheels with bearings in them. The axle looks similar to the one on a dumping trailer we have that we pull behind the lawnmower. It has handled well over 300 lbs, so I know it's possible to have an axle of similar size that is up to the task. This one is just inferior imo, as well as the way they have the wheels secured to it.
    This makes what could be a fantastic product mediocre, in my opinion. And I now feel a need to spend more money on what was already expensive, to really make it worth what I've already spent.

      Thanks for your insights and specifics. We now have both the Gorilla Cart and the RubberMaid. I reach for the Gorilla Cart more often than the Rubbermaid. I see this cart used a lot for trash carts at retail locations and convenience stores, where the volume and weight would be moderate. I think that Rubbermaid could have done a better job on both the axle gauge as well as the tires having a bearing in them. Or, have an upgraded model for those that want a more durable and higher load capacity. Thanks again for your thoughts and taking time to write. Best, DFJ

    • @mwemaxxowner1
      @mwemaxxowner1 4 роки тому

      I love it other than that. I think the 300 lb capacity rating is a stretch. I'll upgrade the axle and wheels eventually I think. It's close enough to perfect to justify that.

      @@DirtFarmerJay I think this could be retrofitted with BMX bicycle wheels and hubs easily enough, and then it would be a real match for the gorilla cart. Not as good at dumping, but far more manuverable than a 4 wheel system

    I restored an old "Vermont cart". We rebuilt the main sub frame out of old bed rails welded together. It's much better built now than factory. I love it. I am on the hunt now for one of these Rubbermaids carts now. Too expensive new.

    I love it, but they should have just put on bicycle wheels. When you really load it up heavy, those plastic wheels flex and the tires come out of the bead. The tub is perfect and the height of the wheels are wonderful. It's not a perfect pourer, but it has a flat bottom which is useful for a number of reasons.

    So it's a Dump cart, wonder how fast it dumps when full? Does the handle fly out of your hands? Great Video !

    • @DirtFarmerJay
      @DirtFarmerJay  5 років тому +2

      Formula Firebird - when it's sitting in the level position, it's quite stable and has no tendency to dump forward. Once you lift the handle (which is quite substantial and comfortable to grip) and move the load center of gravity forward then you simply need to exert moderate downward force on the handle to control the speed of the dumping action. We haven't had the handle fly out of our hands, even with some substantial loads. Does this help? Thanks for watching and writing! Best, DFJ

    What are your thoughts on the gorilla cart?

    • @DirtFarmerJay
      @DirtFarmerJay  10 місяців тому

      We really enjoy ours. It's held up well, and it is used regularly for a wide range of projects and load types. The tires are easy to service. After 3 years, we had our first flat and we able to change out the inner-tube without much trouble. Overall, it's well made. We plan to make sidewalls for it to boost the cubic foot capacity for high volume, low weight matter.

    Since its removable, and held on so simply, wonder if you could surf the web and find a roller bearing that would find into wheel and onto the axle??

    • @DirtFarmerJay
      @DirtFarmerJay  5 років тому +1

      stewarttrains98, I had the same thought initially. The axle is 3/4" steel, and the plastic extruded hub is not solid, but is formed to create a 3/4" hole for the axle to go through. To make room for a sleeve or bearing, you would either have to turn down the end of the axle or use a smaller axle. There is no option to drill out the hub to make room for a bearing. Interestingly, I found a tire on Amazon from Marathon Industries that is $37, and come with a bearing in it! Thanks for watching and taking time to write! Best, DFJ

  • @archersfriend

    For the price, they Should have a Bushing that is replaceable rather than having to replace the whole wheel Think I would try to find a Bicycle wheel with bearings to fit that axel.

    • @DirtFarmerJay
      @DirtFarmerJay  5 років тому

      archersfriend - yep. What I don't know is the durability of the wheel and tire surface itself over time and if the wheel itself degrades about the time the hub wears out. Let me know what you come up with in your search for another tire approach, will you? Best, DFJ

      Cae, thanks for weighing in (pun intended). We've had it loaded pretty heavy a couple of times and found we could still move it around relatively easy, and got the job done. We've already learned when it's diminishing returns to really load it on, 'cuz we're gonna be the "engine" that moves the vehicle to the dump site. Thanks for letting others know your experience. We've had one of these for years and I LOVED it -- until the spokes cracked on one wheel, and Rubbermaid said, Sorry, we don't make them any more. I guess they just change the model every few years and don't care about customers who'd like to repair their carts! Might be able to get help finding compatible wheels and fabricating whatever axle pieces are necessary. Such a bummer because Rubbermaid was a brand I trusted, and as you demonstrate, this is otherwise a great cart!

    • @DirtFarmerJay
      @DirtFarmerJay  Рік тому +1

      Other viewer family members have made the same comment about these tires from Rubbermaid not being replaceable. However I have found other aftermarket manufacturers. There is one on Amazon called Marathon that is a twin pack for about $60. It looks like the bearings that they include two sizes to fit different size axles, i.e, 5/8 in and 3/4 in. Perhaps this will help you! You don't want to throw out the entire cart, it's too hard a worker! Let me know how this turns out for you! And, thanks for being one of our viewer family members. mcffej - thanks for watching and taking time to write. I'd agree that this cart is for moderate to low density loads. We use it around here pretty much ongoing, but we use the Gorilla Cart for heavy loads and for it's better dumping mechanism and total emptying of the bin. I think Rubbermaid could have done a better job with this or offer a version with upgraded bearings and tire load capacity. We see these carts in use a lot around at convenience stores for emptying trash and such, as well as some landscape crew use - again, all low density but bulky loading. Best Regards, DFJ
