    Thank you Elizabeth! I know nothing about this stuff but I'm interested in getting something to expand my applications as a recording artist and songwriter and this was very helpful. Break a leg!

    It is hard finding good info for non apple tablets for sheet readers.
    I dont really want an overly complex tablet,
    I want the simplest bare bones tablet that can display sheet music in black and white,
    absolute cheapest product.
    Cant seem to find those anywhere

    I find it amusing that anyone would accuse Android of being "stuck in the past" when they actually have a LOT more flexibility than Apple devices. As someone who's been in software development for over 40 years, I've always found the limited customization of Apple products to be restricting. Yes, they were the first to market with most of these types of products, but they've always seemed too paternal to me. They seem to take the attitude that they know what you need, so you shouldn't be able to do much customization of their devices because that would be questioning their decisions.
    I do prefer the aspect ration on the iPad pro to those on the Samsung S8, but for someone who has worked with both operating systems for years, I still prefer Android and find the Samsung much more flexible. That said, I do think that forScore IS a better app for sheet music than Mobile Sheets, which is the best one for Android, and forScore is Apple only. Still, I love the size of the Galaxy S8 Ultra, especially for my old eyes, and Mobile Sheets does what I need to organize and display my music. I have a 128GB version of the tablet, that I was able to pick up for around $500 after a trade in, and have a 1TB microSD card in it, which is more than I expect I will ever need for my music..

      Thanks for your thoughtful comment! I used an android phone from 2019-2021 and I really loved the customization options available. I totally understand your thoughts on Apple, and it bothers me too.
      Thank you too for sharing your tablet experience! So glad that setup is working for you 😊

      I'm a 10y developer and I don't know what kind of lack of flexibility Apples has.. I've been jailbreaking iPhone for years.. and I own multiple rooted Androids as well. I can customize ANYTHING I want in iPhones/iPads. There's not a single limit to be honest. Limit is for clueless ppl who doesn't jailbreak their devices.

      @@ExplorerOfTheGalaxythe fact you have to jailbreak them is just proving his point. They're not even able to connect to devices you own that aren't on the same network as them without a work around.

    So which do you prefer? I'm really torn between Ipad Air or Pro, and one of these S8s. Oh and you were right on the 3.5mm audio jack. iPad 9 is the only thing I have found that comes with that.

    • @ElizabethKnaub
      @ElizabethKnaub  2 роки тому +2

      I’ve never used an S8 hands-on, so I’m biased toward the iPads. I think it comes down to whether you prefer iOS or android. Also, I really feel that forscore is the best digital sheet music reading app on the market, and it’s only available for iOS.
      Between the air and the Pro though, I think screen size and what exactly you’ll be using it for are the deciding factors. If you’ll do a lot of editing/processing, the pro is best. If you’re not doing that and are okay with a smaller size screen, the air would be just as good.

      I started off as a classical cellist with music sheets A4 size, then has to adopt to chart score and eventually to read multi-stave on large sheet, two at a spread without page turning.
      Lately I need to consider the pros and cons of iPad vs Samsung tablets w.r.t. size, ease of turning, notation size as well. Finance is not an issue.

    An aspect that steers me away from android devices in general is their shorter software support window. For many people who upgrade every couple of years, probably not an issue. I tend to hang onto my devices for a long time and have had otherwise perfectly fine samsung and other android hardware that was no longer getting updates against malware or other vulnerabilities.

    • @ElizabethKnaub
      @ElizabethKnaub  2 роки тому +1

    The problem of the Tab S8 plus and Ultra is that these devices are 16:9 proporcion in screen. IPads are 4:3. I recently bought a Tab S8 Plus and when I tried to open sheet music I realized that in portrait view the height is good but the width, in the bottom, is too small to see scores well, the 16:9 proporcion is good to watch movies but not to open sheet music. And in landscape posicion the score doesn’t fit very well. In portrait position, the width would be 3 to 4 cm larger in the Tab S8 plus to be really good for this. Until now my experience is that 4:3 screen is better to read music than 16:9. Another point, the resolution of 2022 iPads Pro is better than of these Tab S8, plus and ultra, so we realize different distinctness, better in iPads.

    I agree with DrMIS1 that Android is in no way stuck in the past, rather the opposite, being open to developers who have found it easier to work with this system enabling a high degree of customisation and access to numerous apps. I think that this woman must be speaking from a position of little or no use of Android. I have always used Android which I still prefer but recently purchased a used Ipad Pro 12.9 as the only unit that I found best suited for music reading. I am of course impressed and well pleased with it and note that Apple is at last becoming more flexible to other sources and allowing more customization.
    However, I have to disagree wholeheartedly with DrMIS1 that Mobile Sheets is inferior to forScore. I have been using Mobile Sheets for many years and have been forced, at least temporarily, to use forScore as a result of changing to the Ipad Pro. Whilst forScore is a good app, it suffers from the same disease as iOS in its restricted customization. When importing a score into forScore, many details can be entered i.e. key, time signature, genre, etc. but none of this information is shown in the Library or Setlist view when selecting a tune, unlike Mobile Sheets which makes this info optional as required. I have typed these details added to the title on the Ipad for identification! Also the annotation part of forScore is found wanting with many fewer options. Annotations in Mobile Sheets can be placed very precisely using the nudge tool for example where as forScore has an imprecise method for this making for a less tidy appearance. I will certainly revert to Mobile Sheets when it becomes available for iOS and I predict that many iOS users will also switch to Mobile Sheets after trying it.

      This is really helpful to me. Been researching around and I see a lot of musicians leaning to forscore but it's only available to apple devices.
      I love Apple i have used iphones and ipads but I am now used to samsung devices just because it is so flexible and not too constricting to navigate around from my laptop and android devices.
      Glad to hear from you that mobilesheets is a good app to use. Now I'm decided to buy a samsung tablet for my music sheets, than buy an ipad just for forscore.
      If I have questions about mobilesheets in the future, I hope you don't mind me asking. It would be great to learn more from someone like you who've been using this app. Thanks!
