The way he could make a bass line the engine that drives a song was so masterful and game-changing. And it’s not just what he did; it’s how well he did it. Sure, he wasn’t as technical as a lot of cats after him. To say he’s not an all-time great bassist is similar to saying Babe Ruth or Bill Russell aren’t great because they weren’t in the modern game.
@@bigkoby Here´s a man that never said the same thing twice!... Well, not me! I´ve said it once, twice...and will keep on saying it, as long as I can! Because it´s only the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!!! Tank you!!!
Did any contemporaries of McCarthy play the bass in this manner? He seems to have elevated the bass guitar from a mere rhythm instrument to a lead instrumental 'voice' in the Beatle's compositions.
I think you can say that there have been technically better bassist than Paul McCartney but 1:01 I think that bass break right there is the best part of any bassline I've ever heard. If I ever write something even a 100th as good as that I'll be happy.
This is nuts to play even as expereinces bassists. Always been my favorite bassline but just how many small yet different grooves paul is throwing in there is insane. The high notes are brilliant but those grooves go in just as a beautifully cordinated mess
am i tweakin or is he not playing some of the notes correctly? ie. when he’s doing the descending run, says he’s playing 16th fret but on my bass i hear him play 18? idk if im tweakin or not yall lmk
Jack Bruce also a big favorite of mine he had the unique ability of playing and awesome bass line make up for the lack of a rhythm guitar player and play this same kind of counter melody while Eric could go go of anywhere he wanted and the could re enter the song right on the money ginger and Jack where imo the greatest percussion section of any band it's like they where in mental sycrinisation the only other band that I can think of and I'm sure alot of people might disagree is the police sting and Stuart did it without copying cream but that's what impressed me the most about them plus stings ability to sing while playing in some unusual time signatures made them a force to be recond with and it always reminded me of Paul and Ringo or Jack and ginger so different but still the same and a quick word about Andy and unsung guitare hero but he could hold back and add that little missing piece despite his own talents.
Paul McCartney is 80 years old and I will NEVER forget him or any of the Beatles for that matter…I want…THEM haha 😛Our country is going to hell and I miss the simpler times when the Beatles were on top 🔝 of their game
Paul is unbelievably good at bass. I consider him the best. Most melodic bass player for sure
Paul really did go utterly insane during the coda of this song 😂 And there are still people who claim he wasn’t a great bass player...
He definitely did go insane, but it infuriates me that you can quite barely make out the bass by then.
And I still can't see how he wasn't a great bass player.
You can see during the Let it be sessions, he played bass like a lead guitar, therefore you get those lovely melodic legato phrases.
Who says that? LET ME AT 'EM!!!!

Nobody, but nobody, was/is able to make a bass guitar "sing", really sing, as Sir James Paul McCartney!!! The Master of Melody!!!

As a newer bass player, this bass line scares me a little bit. Especially when he does 9/4\16. Absolutely amazed by your performance.
Wow, my 18th birthday. Thank you
Love how he switched it up the second time around on the verse. It has more swing. Amazing....
Sir Paul's bass style articulates, sings & very haunting in this tract!
Good job friend, man McCartney's bass lines were fucking unbelievable around that time , absolute genius
Paul McCartney is considerated one of the biggest bass player in Rock and Roll, of course. He revolutionazed the bass guitar.
Thank you man, the reason i bought a bass guitar was for this masterpiece.
Sir Paul always was a genius when it came to the bass. Love this! ❤️
You did this song true justice. I love the vibrato played. well done!

that's true, Macca was a revolutionary bassman for bass, and his importance in the music world
Jack Bruce and Chris Squire, still Paul is one of the best
I believe Brian Wilson was a bug influence on his playing in the other stuff
@@georgetowle8903 Yeah I remember reading Pet Sounds inspired him to play more inversion and counter melody stuff.
James Jamerson, mate. Macca always lists him as an influence.
omg thank you so much, this along with oh darling are my favorite abbey road basslines
I'll do Oh! Darling in the next weeks
@@LeftyBassman I think George played bass on Oh Darling. Good bass line though, I often borrow bits of it.
