  • I was joined by Candice again (it's official, we are now in a relationship lol!) AKA Miss Outdoors! Haha.
This was a 6 mile linear route from the historic town of Rochester on the River Medway in Kent to the equally historic and brilliant towns of Upnor and Lower Upnor, further along the river.
The route actually calls for you retrace your steps back to Rochester, but as we had seen all that already and it would've taken too long (I had work in the evening), we cheated and got a cab back!
Points of interest included the castles in both towns, Rochester cathedral, the Russian Cold War submarine (The Black Widow) moored in the middle of the Medway, a World War II pillbox, a number of fine pubs and the connection with Charles Dickens (he lived and died in Rochester and wrote many of his greatest novels there)!

The Castle documentary by Marc Morris, episode 2, about Rochester and Hedingham castles, well worth a watch:

Great film ... Upnor is actually pronounced Up Narr, not Up nore. I lived there for 30 years. Thank you for making the film.

The book Great Expectations in the opening chapter the Cooling Church , St Lukes in Cooling village is featured, today you can sleep overnight in the 800 year old church. There are a few videos on YT filmed by overnight guests.
