      Ha. Handsewing is my favourite. But there is a way to do it by machine. I have seen it done. I think it is called foundation paper piecing when done on a machine. Def give it a google, or pintrest seach. Happy piecing! ❤️

    thank you for this video! ive picked up EPP bc i dont have a sewing machine and ive been trying to figure out binding and all videos seem to machine sew most of their binding on even if they say hand sewn binding. this is exactly what type of info im looking for!

    I'd love to see a finished one, including the back. I like how you finish your edges. I've seen lots of different options with and without binding on EPP projects. :)

      All of the hexi quilts I have made have gone to other people. I have one other quilt I kept, but that is not a hexi one. I can make a video of a mock up if you like and show how I finish them. Or possibly look though my ohotos and put something together that way. Will be working on that.

      Also. I have some photos of my quilts on instagram. All the baby paper piecing quilts I have made so far:

      I don't think I ever took a photo of the back of the quilts... sorry.
      And a few of the running sritch quilts. I did take photos of the back of one of these.

    I have followed your video and am about to start last two sides ..wondering if cutting the little slit into backing fabric does it not fray? Love your method though ❤

      @@user-bl7mn8mi5e @user-bl7mn8mi5e So far I haven't noticed anything fraying. Really there is only a tiny point of raw edge the rest is turned under and sewn on.

    All the papers are remained in your work?

    • @sidewalkpirate23
      @sidewalkpirate23  11 місяців тому

      No. I only keep the paper in as long as I am still working kn each individual piece. And I leave the paper in the edge pices until I am ready to work on the edging of the quilt.

    Thank you for this informative video - I like this method better also. I will use it when I finish my EPP quilt!
    Question: When do you do the quilting on the last 2 rows that you left unquilted?

    • @sidewalkpirate23
      @sidewalkpirate23  Рік тому +3

      When I get ready to sew the edging, I go around the perimeter and quilt the second to last row all the way except leave enough unworked to fold under the seam allowance. ( I hope that makes sense?) Then I go along and prepareto finish the edging. I fold everything under and (cut if necessary) pin /clip it all secure on one side. Once that is done, I start on sewing the edging a ways and then catch up with the quilting. There won't be much to do. Only te last edge on the whole hexies and then half hexies on straight sides and triangle tips on the zig zag sides. You could leave the quilting until you are done with that side and then catch up, or until you are done with the whole edging, although that is my keadt favourite way. Once the edging is done, I want to be done lol.
      I can make a video on how I do it exactly. If you would like. ❤️

      Will do! I am making a small pillow right now (videos will come out ofcer the next 3 weeks. It's a tutorial) but not with hexi shapes. I will finish the edges just plain.straight on thst though, but maybe that will help already?

    I like the idea of a knife edge finish, but I've never tried it...

    • @sidewalkpirate23
      @sidewalkpirate23  Рік тому

      Oh. Try it out on something small. Like a pin cushion, or a pillow, or a tea cozy. That's not too much work, but eill give you a good idea if you like it well enough for an entire quilt.

      @AvivaHadas Рік тому

      @@sidewalkpirate23 oh, you see while that makes perfect sense, I don't make small objects... (I'm not going to say in a blanket statement that they are a waste of time, but they are a waste of my time, because I'd rather use that time to make a bed quilt.)

    • @sidewalkpirate23
      @sidewalkpirate23  Рік тому

      @@AvivaHadas lol. Well. Sometimes small projects are just what I need to fill a spot of time. Or fill a need of a certain finished product I have. Like I am seriously thinking about making a tea cozy to use.... but yeah. Bigger projects have my heart. Something to sink your teeth into and work on for a stretch of time. Almost like a journal. I can remeber things that went on while I was working on those quilts.❤️
