The Queen's Life Guard, mounted on immaculately groomed horses with swords drawn and breastplates shinning in the sun, can be seen at Horse Guards.
Horse Guards, named after the troops who have protected the Sovereign since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660, is today the official entrance to Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace.

A large number of these guards have served in theatres of war and also peace keeping forces in other countries. The people who show no respect obviously have no idea what these soldiers have seen and had to deal with. If you can not show respect do not bother to come here.

I'm from America and I find the disrespect of the public that has the privilege to be allowed to view these time honored, noble guards absolutely disgusting. They should go back to the the time when the public was not allowed access like this.
are u having a laugh? im from england and they could lock the gates. they do it for tourism and acting and showing off. the last time they swung a sword was many years ago at a person. so for ur information there does not need to be respect if u dont want to, u can but u dont have to. just like when we say thank you and ur foreign arse says ur welcome, where as in england we dont say it. ive been to illinois whitehall and stayed for a month and year after 2 months and i know friends trust me. i had the whole town knocking my door asking to hang out and do things everyday.
I am from the UK, no offence but the Queens guard do not disrespect people, they just loudly ask them to make way for the Queens guard, it is and will always will be a British tradition for them to act like this, they will not deviate from there designated path for anyone, better to shout and get recognised than bowl them over?, most people take it for what it is and love it 😁

I am from the US and if someone is disrespecting the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier I totally respect the guards for yelling. You want to be rude go to Walmart….

Why do we allow our soldiers to be subjected to this sort of behaviour? Most of the civilians are foreign tourists. What gives them the right to try to humiliate these serving personnel? Keep them outside the gates or stop the ceremonial mounting of the guard. What other country would tolerate this?
@David Drake Hell would freeze over before they stopped mounting the guard. Nothing ceremonial about this at all. They are well trained elite fighting soldiers that have served in war zones, they mount the guard when they are home at barracks. 5 troops rotate on guard. Even suggesting that they stop the guard for the sake of tourists being idiots would have every one of them chasing you down the street with a rope :D Some of the posts have been continually mounted since the 1500's.
@@sexybl7 Thank you for your post. Whilst I share your sentiments, I still think that the lack of respects and generally poor behaviour needs to be addressed in some way. It was such bad behaviour that put the sentries behind the railings as Buckingham Palace in the late 50s. ( You can still see the worn pavement of their ' beats'.

Also I wonder if a polite notice to visitors, along the lines 'You are welcome to visit, however please be aware this is a place where Guards men and women also horses carry out duties on behalf of the Monarch. You are asked to respect this'.
I think this guard was fead up with those tourists and marched back and forth to cope with his distress and frustration. WHY are people laughing at these guards? Cops need to more closely protect these guys from the public. YO, Queen, royal family you need to pay attention to these dedicated Soldiers. They gotta put up with uncomfortable uniforms, etc while on their time as ceremonial protectors, and required to tolerate rude people. QUEEN AND ROYALS, you want this honored tradition to continue?? PROTECT RESPECT and help these guys (and the horses 🐎)! !!

I'm not sure what the big deal is. Haven't these people ever seen a human being before? He is a soldier, from an elite unit, on guard duty in his dress uniform. He is not an exhibit from a freak show. Leave him alone and let him go about about his business. He does not need you to gawp at him and make asinine comments.

I think tourists are just ignorant to the fact that these are even real soldiers! They probably think they are symbolic ‘mascots’ like they are used to seeing at Disney. Besides their shameful lack of manners they also show their inexcusable ignorance. When you are in another country as their guest you should educate yourself as to the culture, history and meaning of the sites you are going to visit. I don’t know how these well trained soldiers put up with it all. I’d just suggest one thing as to what I think should be done and that is signage. Something saying NO petting or feeding the horses. And one stating that these are fine, well trained veterans whose real job is to guard the crown and the country. I have the utmost respect for these men and women.
I can understand the children being fascinated by the soldiers. It's their parents responsibility to educate them about the history & current purpose they serve. As a soldier, it has to be "distracting" to have so many ppl close by talking, taking pics & in the pathway as your attempting to do your job.

thats the truth Mari. People have been desensitized by Disney etc, Its no re-enactment, but in fact the real deal. Over the past few yrs i have come to know better a cousin of mine, who rides in this unit. In a way he has educated me in many of the traditions, training and long hours both on foot and on horseback , of dedication in their work. What we see here, is really the surface of all they do. Their pretty good guys. Im proud of him, and hes only 22 but he says he would not want to be anywhere else. I think of him everytime i see the mob of tourists and think... oh my.....
They probably think the real soldiers are the armed police with bullet proof vests and assault rifles behind the UA-camr.

I loathe touristy behavior such as this! All the peering around and just all up trying to be in the middle of something that is serious, formal and should without a doubt call for utmost respect! These people act like they are at Disneyland! I’m an American and I’m embarrassed by so many of these people, even though I know they come from all over the country, but where have manners , decency and respect gone?!? You find the same kind in D.C. everywhere at the Monuments, especially at the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier.They don’t hire these guards off the streets , or hold some kind of “star search” , they are trained soldiers !!! These folks standing around with their Fanny Packs, food and sodas, dirty hands ,one after the other touching that magnificent horse and one by one trying to get that perfect “selfie”!!! I don’t know how the mounted soldiers can stand it. Why are we humans so stupid sometimes? I wonder if those people would do the same in a surgery room when doctors are carrying out an operation to one of their beloved ones. Tourism is horrible people think these Military guards are toys, or dressed for Disney land. They have to always tell them stand back, don't grab the horse reins . They go up to the horses like a petting zoo and pet them.

lol I've seen this before, when a guy would film the Guard, every time he took his camera, the Guard went off and going back and forth, then he stopped, the guy took his camera again, and bye bye Guard, they sometimes like to play with the people.

The military tradition of showing outstanding discipline is an old one, it shows the quality of the guards as elite. I would think their standing orders come from the military not the monarchy and the military are very proud of their military traditions.
Well - in many other countries it's even forbidden to take pictures of ANY military object or person! Only because in the UK it's allowed doesn't give you the right to be disrespectful. They know they are a touristic attraction in these uniforms, there even are souvenir boothes. Still no excuse for behaving rude. Ugh, so stupid!

All I ever read are derisive comments of how dumb tourists are. They too are human beings and are awed by anything new. Anyone that has watched the Royal guards for decades have seen the extremely strict discipline in their movements and marching, they stand in the one position for hours until relieved, they don’t wander back and forwards at their own will. And if they yell ‘stand back’ they will go right through not go around you. These guys have to be reserves in training, they look very young and their movements are really sloppy. One guys boots were hanging loose at the top, they can’t march correctly, they stroll, slouch, arms and sword loose, don’t stamp their feet correctly, and one flicked his head….a Royal Guard would not move if a fly landed on their face. Can’t blame people for laughing it is comedic.
Agreed. This is not the crisp proud guard that is the norm. He is sloppy in his movements and way too much marching around. His job is to stand and guard. He also technically left his post when he went to the gate and left people behind him at his own post. I suspect someone is getting a weeks worth of busting when he gets back to barracks after watching this one. Not our finest moment on this post.
Well, I’m American and I’ve only watched these guards for a few weeks but I know that the foot guards do march back and forth (not wander), the top of their boots are supposed to be loose, their marching is not as tight as the guards at Buckingham maybe because they carry a sword in one hand and the scabbard in the other so they can’t swing their arm while marching, and when the bell rings they march to the gate to check on the horse guards.
No he didn't leave his post. The boots are for horse guards so not for marching.that is also the way you carry the scanners when the sword is attention .and know they not recruits the life guards are the premier Household regiment so are selected from the best.it's a very different process marching in those traditional boots

@@tonybennett7904 This was taken during the funeral service of the late Queen. Some of the guards on duty were recruits recently into the post as the others were on guard duty elsewhere.
@@tonybennett7904 C’mon …Look closely he’s just a kid and has a loooong way to go before being a premier household regiment guard. Did you even look at the video. Have you noticed how very young they are these days. Elite regiments have a strict dress code it does not allow for this type of sloppiness because it’s difficult to March in the boots…. and btw he was the only one who must have struggled with this. Appearance is paramount as is discipline.
What’s to research …what you see speaks for itself. I’ve lived a long time and I’ve watched a lot of Royal Regiments, and I’ve read about their extremely strict, disciplined and isolated lives while in service.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not criticising the kids …I’m just not being fooled and I don’t blame people for having a laugh.
There’s been big changes in the last two to three years, just observing Buckingham Palace provides proof of that.
