  • In this video I discuss the details of this material: Mother of Pearl. I found it interesting when it was mentioned by Nico of Pride and Pinion what it was, and it peaked my curiosity. Watch the video to find out where it's from, why its used, and if its worth the premium some pay for when buying jewelry and watches.
    Don't forget to check out Chase Straps, for my personal watch straps:

    Also comment if you want this shell! I'll put the time frame at one month!

    I just love mop I have watches,knives and gun grips with it and in a variety of died colors I think the cost of having mop is the simple fact that it is extremely difficult to work with and there is a ton of waste in the process Thanks for sharing your research Always enjoy and appreciate your content my friend 👍

      I agree, when I saw how brittle it can be to work with, I can assume that you go through a lot just to get a little.

    I bought white MOP Deep Blue Juggernaut 4 watch Swiss movement and I love the texture of it. I would love to keep that Tahitian MOP next to my watch for my collection for sure and thank you.

    You explained that better than any of the guitar making folks ever have. Gibson always likes to use REAL MOP on the Les Paul Customs, and not the fabled "Bursts". At least Y'all watch folks don't have to put up with paying a premium for celluloid Mother of Toilet Seat dials (Fretmarkers on guitars) like Gibson buyers do 🤣

    Dude Platin is cheaper in a bar than gold but tougher to work with so platinum watches are more expensive. Same goes with MOP. It's not the material price but the work that had to be put in.

    The trick is actually making the dial from the shell…that’s what you pay for. No other material except maybe meteorite gives you a one of a kind dial…

    I don't think your taking into account the labor involved in making the dial from the shell. Can you tell me where i can get " aaa rating Tahitian mop" 10 $ per shell sounds good . I will take 20 if good condition

    • @allthingsrandom8137
      @allthingsrandom8137  Рік тому +2

      I understand what you’re saying. I am taking into account the labor and mostly farmed clams. That being said…. Is the labor, done in most cases by machines, worth a 500-1000 mark up….?

    This guy has no clue what it takes to make a dial from this material that fits the inside of of a watch.

    • @allthingsrandom8137
      @allthingsrandom8137  10 місяців тому

      Actually, I have a lot of understanding. Most things to include mother-of-pearl dials are machined with machines not by human hand.
      So if you want to explain to me the process, or something I missing, please feel free
      Because I’ve seen the process

      I totally forgot I left that comment. Not a very nice comment by the way. Sorry about that, my apologies. Mother of pearl is a nice material for watch dials and needs to be as thin as the standard thickness of dials which is 0.4mm. It can certainly be thicker but you have to account for that when you fit it into the watch. You have to modify the movement and/or the movement holder.
