I was there and it was a heavenly trip from the mainland to Maui with all the anticipation to come with two tickets to spend two nights with the greatest live rock band ever. Gorgeous Guys....they are. Every February I remember my trip to see Pearl Jam from across the 48 contiguous states...There were only about 4000 people allowed in that venue. I wore my Beatles Sweat shirt and started out in the front row but then moved further back because it was getting way too mosh pit squishy. Right after that Eddie said "We're just getting warmed up. Get comfortable." Nice to be that close in such an intimate setting. They played as good as the studio recording then...high quality.
I'm in there somewhere. I remember seeing at least 4 full blown production cameras there and a truck outside that recorded everything. I would love to see that footage!
I wish they’d release all of the ‘98 bootlegs. I would buy at least 6 or 7. Plus the only PJ concert I don’t have an official bootleg leg for was my first time seeing them in Kansas that year.
Was there both nights. Met Chris Cornell backstage.
Went to this show after a week in Kalalau. One of the best concerts and weeks of my life. Thank you PJ.
They sounded best in 1998 at these Hawaiian shows. They sound good live period, but these two shows they were amazing.
Wow! Thanks for posting. I was at this show and remember it so well (especially the attempt at 20:00 to get the crowd to move back and the comment about the Mariah Carey barricade). My wife had won a contest on a rock radio station in Canada which included an all-expense paid trip to Maui to attend this show. Amazing!. This was my first time ever seeing PJ. If I remember right, this was the first of 2 warm-up shows in Maui before they headed to Australia for the start of the Yield tour.
What a perfect setting: 4000 people, small outdoor venue, on a beautiful Friday night in Maui. Just priceless!
I've seen PJ dozens of times since then, all fantastic shows, but nothing could top this experience.
To now be able to re-live it 23 years later is amazing. Thank you !
Love this I was there for both nights.
I was there… sophomore in high school. Maui boy blessed to see this. Best concert of my life. Crowd surfed about 5 times.

love it, I was there
Brain of J. was amazing, that Stone solo was badass. And obviously, Red Mosquito was amazing too.
Damn I wish they’d release the ‘98 bootlegs.
Even if months later MC played very similar to JI, the difference can be felt... Even more as the shows continued that year and the pace and style became way different
It was the same going DA to JI as well. Just slowly and slowly killing the energy of the band
What a great year for Pearl Jam I don’t care what anybody says who their drummer is the time makes all the difference in the world how their music sounds… Dave A BROUGHT A POWER AND GROOVE THAT WAS LIKE NO OTHER, AND DROVE THE BAND… jack irons on the other hand brought an indie rock field that felt so perfect Pearl Jam and then we got Matt… nothing personal about him I just can’t stand his drumming. He brings nothing to Pearl Jam, except a drum beat that holds nothing special. it absolutely drives me crazy lol
last gig with Jack Irons?
No. He toured with them through Australia and Japan.
