@@DVDhoarder it’s coming and looks like a 4k too. Kevin Smith got the rights back through a complicated process. He talked about it a few times last year, and everyone thought it was an April fools joke; it wasn’t.
@@matthewgaudet4064 THX 1138 shocked it never got a Blu-ray. I have my Blu-rays that need a 4k coming next week and Minority Report is on that list, I saw it in the theater instantly loved it.
@@80sMadeConsumer , the original theatrical directors cut of THX 1138 has never even been on DVD but the George Lucas 2002 cut has been on every format but 4K. The one with the added cgi. Though to be fair that blu-ray is out of print. Expecting a theatrical cut from Lucas is something one does not do. I'll buy the cgi cut in 4K because it will be all that will be offered. Yeah the reissue late 70s cut is on VHS and laserdisc. And Spielberg i imagine will remove the bleach bypass on the 4K of Minority Report like he did to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crytal Skull I also wish ET Special Edition was available I know everyone hated the walkie talkies and censored dialog, but i saw the cleaned-up picture and sound in 2002 and was awed. I only ever saw the film on VHS as a kid so seeing even a messed with version was a good experience, much like watching the Special Editions of Star Wars in the 1990s. Spielberg never will, I have the DTS DVD and the version with the orchestra being played live., that came with a remastered CD.
Good choices there! For me I would love to have..... 1. Private Benjamin 1980 2. Moving 1988 Richard Pryor 3. Midnight Madness 1980 4. Big Top Pee Wee 1988 5. Cops And Robbersons 1994 6. Cannonball Run II 7. In The Army Now 1994 8. Encino Man 1992 9. Son In Law 1993 10. What About Bob? 1991 11. Three Men And A Baby 1987 12. Three Men And A Little Lady 1990 13. Man Of The House 2005 Tommy Lee Jones 14. Little Giants 1994 15. Ewok Adventure 1984 16. Ewoks Battle For Endor 1985
You also have great choices. Private Benjamin showed up on one the leaks, but nothing solid yet. Moving is my all time favorite Richard Pryor film. Cannonball run 2 had an Australian Blu-ray none here though. Cops and Robbersons would be a day one purchase, so would What About Bob & Midnight Madness. I remember watching In the Army Now in Theaters and I think that’s the last time I saw it, probably grab that too!
Man I didn’t even think of that 😂 that trailer felt like a fake movie inside of another movie. Something about Gary Oldman’s best role or something haha
I'd love to see a Whole Ten Yards blu-ray (Whole Nine Yards could use a re-do also). I'd add Fun With Dick and Jane starring Jim Carrey to the list. 2025 marks the 20 year reunion of the film so that'd seem like good reason to me.
Fun With Dick was originally in the mix, but I was close to 50 titles haha had to narrow it down a bit. A remaster of the whole 9 yards would be awesome, hoping for a 4k of both or at least a 4k scan on a Blu-ray.
So I just got a Bluray copy from Kino Lorber for The Hard Way in yesterday, and it made me realize that they are putting out some of the Touchstone Pictures films that deserve to be upgraded to higher quality physical copies.
I just grabbed that during the sale, great film and it seems Kino has a hand in everything. I would love to see more new releases as opposed to the studio swapping titles. Touchstone wishlist would have include Down and Out In Beverly Hills, OutRageous Fortune, Captain Ron, Stakeout, and Adventures in Babysitting on 4k would be great!
@80sMadeConsumer Well, now that my wife saw the trailer for Life of Mikey on there, now she wants that one and Stakeout with Another Stakeout. I personally want to see High Spirits get this treatment. It makes me laugh whenever I see someone saying Liam Neeson can't be funny when my first thought is that it has to be someone who never saw him in that film.
@willnoiles2001 I didn't say The Hard Way was Touchstone. I said that disk includes some trailers for other films that Kino Lorber has put out that are from Touchstone, like Life of Mikey and Another Stakeout.
Thank you for a great list of films stuck on dvd. There are some really really bi franchises that fit into this category. TV series of Buffy the vampire slayer, Angel Millennium, Three lone gunmen. Reasons for this could be that they are 20th century titles, poor reputation of show runners. Luckily the DVD box seats are brilliant but time for a Blu-ray upgrade. Thank you.
Thanks, I agree those tv shows would be great in HD. Especially the Buffy series. We picked up the 1st season while thrifting, hard to pay more for the rest of a Blu-ray could be coming.
This was my favorite video of 2025 🤣 being Jan 1st and this was the very first video I watched today! Great Video; Happy New Year I would add these 1. Carny with Gary Busey and Jodi Foster, 2. Under the Rainbow with Carrie Fisher and Chevy Chase 3. Modern Problems with Chevy Chase and Patti D'Arnbanville 4. Just You and Me Kid with George Burns and Brooke Shields
One of my favorite scenes from Ruthless People is when Judge Reinhold's character carefully takes a spider outside on a newspaper and lets it go...just to go back out and squash it! Still don't have that one, haven't seen it around to pick up!
Nice picks for movies that are still not available on bluray still. And I wold also recommend these films that still only available on DVD or laser disk to this day. 1987 stranded & 1992 class act & 1991 ricochet & 1989 how I got into college & 1994 PCU & 1992 folks & 1995 fair game & 1990 house party & 1988 watchers
.These are some great picks too. I've only ever watched Class Act, Fair Game, House Party, PCU. Watchers has been on my radar because of Corey Haim, other than than all the rest were new to me. Thanks for the recommendations I'll be looking for these while thrifting.
Happy New Year! Great video. Here are some movies that I'd love to see get a blu-ray release: American Splendor (HBO film starring Paul Giamatti currently on DVD), That's Life (Blake Edwards film starring Jack Lemon, currently on DVD but not easy to find), Silver Streak (starring Gene Wilder, just on DVD to my knowledge). One TV show that I'd love to see get an upgrade would be Barney Miller (1974-1982). I have the DVD set which, though watchable, would be great to see on blu-ray. Hope you have a great 2025!
Happy New Year to you and yours. Thank you, I’ll have to check out American Splendor. I’ll watch anything with Jack Lemmon thanks for the recommendation. I just imported the Swedish Blu-ray of Silver Streak, there were a few left on Amazon US, and claim to be region free.
I just found that Silver Streak did have a Blu-ray. Long oop and the prices are insane for used 60-100 bucks, but amazon was selling the Swedish import and even though it says region B it was in fact region free. 32 bucks and plays just fine also includes special features, if you can deal with the foreign title Chicago Expressen haha. www.amazon.com/Silver-Streak-Blu-Ray-Reg-Sweden/dp/B07PPS6WM8/ref=sr_1_2?crid=3TI16CDM52TP0&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Tzs8A1P4bnZMyYNbSZcS5LGYctACDpxyXxDxXaiD3EyLmgBfkIoW5foezUl9XRDONplDe60UtXu3Vy_VlT3uCehbCsYub8eDFjB689QyCA_dQfa7qfvOFdkOmzDQics4Se7Ebzmfe3VdgObSmtyMijJID0xabHPCZdlqUSjW9xR2i3YEJrd1CqIW14rFmRs2.Q3tv77R_y7sMTL981F8wmvwRbj9OfMzoRN690bZBfvk&dib_tag=se&keywords=silver+streak+blu+ray&qid=1736485563&sprefix=silver+streal+blu%2Caps%2C103&sr=8-2
Great video! My dvd to HD upgrades would be: Keeping the faith, The In-Laws 2003, Lucky You, Green Street Hooligans, With Honors, Knockaround Guys, Biker Boyz, Open range, Ready to Rumble, The Salton Sea, Peaceful Warrior, and The Ruling Class (Criterion)
That’s a good one, I’ll have to import that one too. Only have it on VHS, a very I Underrated film. Between all the other imports and preorders it’ll have to wait, but thanks for letting me know.
I haven’t seen Thunder Alley, I’ll definitely look for it. Simpsons on 4k should print money for Disney not sure why they haven’t done that yet. Glad you enjoyed, and 2025 is looking to be a great year for movies on home video.
Stay tuned with John Ritter and Pam Dawber should have a proper upscale done cause it’s a great movie but the main issue might be is the guy working for hell tv has been in legal trouble so that could make it an issue
Stay Tuned is great one of my underrated favorites! Sony released it on Blu-ray back in 2019 Amazon has it right now for about 26 bucks. As far as blu-rays go it was a pleasant rewatch!
I just looked at a my DVDs last weak. Discovered so many are still stuck on DVD . It’s surprising as we have some classic movies from the 90s and 2000s still trapped on DVD including Disney titles.
It really is and not that dvd is bad, just doesn’t look as great on a big 4k setup. Everyone likes to point to streaming being the culprit, some absolute classics should have been on Blu-ray long before streaming was a thing.
Great selections! "Fools Rush In" is my guilty pleasure movie. It just feels good. "A Murder Of Crows" is excellent. Captain Ron 👍. "Second Sight" sounds interesting. A few titles I'd like to see get a bluray release are: Nurse Betty _ Private Benjamin _ The Son In Law _ Above Suspicion 1995 _ The Stepford Wives 1978 _ Shadow Of The Vampire _ La Cucaracha _ Angels And Insects _ Sunshine 1999 _ The Scapegoat 2012.
Second Sight trailer is on UA-cam, check it out first. I love it just it’s not for everyone 😂 Nurse Betty, Stepford Wives, Above suspicion, and Son In law are day ones for me. Private Benjamin was one of my predictions that got a leak, looks like a boutique label might put it out, I suspect Kino. I’ll have to check out the rest thanks.
A movie I would like on blu-ray or even 4k only has a VHS & DVD which is Angels in the Outfield 1994 it probably won't happen since it's a disney movie... It's a bummer it didn't get a blu-ray on it's 30th anniversary in 2024 but instead got dumbed on disney plus instead...
@80sMadeConsumer Clean and Sober (Michael Keaton). That's a movie I haven't seen in years, but I just read that it doesn't have a Blu-Ray and I'm even having a hard time finding the DVD of it.
Great video--I have so much to say in response! First off, why are so many of your cases red? Do you use replacement cases of some kind? Is there already a video about that? If not, I would be interested in learning more about why you chose to do that. Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead - I would LOVE a Blu-ray or 4K release of this movie. I've seen it probably 50 times and know almost every line in the movie by heart. Such a good one. License to Drive - I bought the Blu-ray of this movie from Spain, and it said it was shipped, but I never got it. :( I've been on the hunt for the DVD for a very long time but have yet to see it. Hopefully one day. I haven't seen it since I was a kid but I remember vividly the scene where the driving instructor puts a cup of water on the dash. Turner and Hooch - I have this one and like it a lot. Tip Toes - Jaime French has a hilarious video about this movie. Highly recommended! The Perfect Score - I literally just bought this movie this week as a blind buy! Seems Like Old Times - The cover art on whatever you said that was (CED?) is amazing! I'll definitely add this to my list because I've never heard of this film and Fletch is one of my all time favorite movies. Dukes of Hazzard - This one has been on my list for a long time but I haven't found it yet. Love that movie. Fools Rush In - I have this one. Matthew Perry's parents in that movie are hilarious! Thanks for all the recommendations!
Well awesome that you have some of these, I’m sure you’ll enjoy Seems Like Old times for sure. The license to drive scene was even more funny bc it was a cup of hot coffee, the look on his face is priceless😂 As for the red cases I’ve talked about switching to colored cases, because I enjoy the asetchic. With my DVDs lots of crappy eco cases, so if they never got a Blu-ray as I rewatch them they go in the red case. Here is a short video about the cases: ua-cam.com/video/9tbt1TGr6c4/v-deo.htmlsi=tGPWQZ87bLIccPIN
100% on suburban commando! I have the VHS and LD.. and the soundtrack on CD. While we’re talking hulkamia, I’d take the thunder in paradise series upgraded 🤙
@ I recently re-watched Mr Nanny w my daughter. Watching that thru adult eyes, those kids are little sociopaths who almost kill their body guard on multiple occasions, for no reason. I’d be okay for hogan to leg drop both of them and roll credits 😂 But yea! Basically anything Hogan, I’d get. That was my dude growing up.
@ hahah yeah there are a ton of films that are like that. Remember the 90s all the kids talked back and knew better than everyone. Rewatch House Arrest, it’s not the same anymore haha.
I am very surprised that the Lethal Weapon series has not been released on 4KBD yet. I know there are two different Blu-rays. They also never released the first three films' director's cuts in HD. Those still remain only on DVD and digital SD.
I saw license to drive in theaters when it came out. Haven’t watched it in years, as an 11 year old I thought Corey Haim was the coolest. Oh yeah, Ruthless People. My cousin and I had a tantrum when our parents wouldn’t let us watch, but we got our way 😂
Haha some of the things we watched in the 80s,and no one really cared most of the time. I remember arguing with my teacher that I had watched A nightmare on elm street, and I got to stay up on a school night to watch Commando. To this day Ruthless people easily in my top 10 favorite comedies of all time. As a kid the Corey’s were the best.
Tin Men, Wise Guys, What About Bob especially insane to be dvd. But my #1 is always T Bone N Weasel. Stuck on laserdisc and vhs only. I'd like a dvd at least! Agree with Captain Ron. Hilarious. And kudos for Poolhall Junkies. Great one.
Awesome another fan of Poolhall Junkies, its a hidden gem for sure. I think you've mentioned T Bone N Weasel before, because its on my radar still haven't found it, and hate to pay 30 dollars for a VHS off ebay. I agree Wise Guys & What About Bob are baffling. Tin Men flew under my radar I'll add it to my need to find list, thanks.
@80sMadeConsumer if u want to just see TBone N Weasel there's a rough vhs upload on UA-cam. Idk if I said that before. Tin Men is Dreyfuss and DeVito. Nuff said there. DVD is pretty cheap.
Can you share where you got those red DVD cases, and do you like the clasp that holds the disc? I've been looking online for like 2 hours and it looks like all the cases you can buy in bulk have terrible clasps that will either be super flimsy and break over time or will hold the case so strongly that it will crack the disc and be impossible to remove.
Sure thing! They are super solid and I buy then 100 at a time, but I think you can get up to a case of 500. www.walmart.com/ip/CheckOutStore-10-Standard-Solid-Red-Color-Single-DVD-Cases/912456765
Not finished the video yet but.. The Ref and Shadow of the Vampire are two I've been wishing for a long time. And Gladiator 1992. There's a Spanish bluray but hoping for an official north American release.
I need to check out Gladiator 1992, I haven't seen it before. The Ref and Shadow of the Vampire would be day one purchases for me. The Ref made my holiday movies with no Blu-ray or 4k video this year, just a shame it’s over shadowed buy all the other Christmas films. If interested here’s that video: ua-cam.com/video/n-pay0f0Iz4/v-deo.htmlsi=RyhzbKQT7EytFjUF
Yeah there was a couple countries that got that one. I think they are all out of print, because the cheapest I could find was 56 bucks and trending around 100.
I've got a big list but my most wanted titles are Disney titles 1. Dead Presidents 1994 2. Titan A.E. 2000 3. Alive 1994 4. Blood and Wine 1998 5. Greased Lightnin 1978 6. Private Benjamin 1980 7. The Year Of Living Dangerously 1981 best Mel Gibson film ever and during his Mad Max era 8. The Champ 1975 9. The Mack 1974 10. Three the Hard Way 1974 11. Heartburn 1986 12. Blood In Blood Out Bound By Honor 1995 13. Quest for Camelot 1999 14. Hey Good Lookin 1981 15. Rosewood 1993 16. How Stella Got Her Groove Back 2002 17. Mr. 3000 2004 18. The Salton Sea 2002 19. Blankman 1994 20. Extreme Justice 1993 21. Save the Last Dance 2001 22. Above the Rim 1995 23. That Was Then This Is Now 1985 24. Watchers 1988 25. The Program 26. The Man From Snowy River 1982 27. Moving 1988 28. Annabelle's Wish great Christmas movie 29. Catch 22 1974 30. House Party films all of them 31. Ladies and Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains 1983 Also yes Blankman needs a Blu-Ray so bad I love this fun 90s superhero comedy film it deserves it so bad. Anytime I find a Blankman fan on UA-cam it puts a big smile on my face. There's a huge number of others I didn't list, but I think I'll stick with 31 titles for now.
Impressive list and those would all be great blu-rays or 4ks many of them being day one purchases too. Dead Presidents only had a DVD release back in 1998 and it's a shame nothing since. Blankman is very underrated!
It’s a no brainer, but wouldn’t shock me in the least if they didn’t. Hope they rerelease it. It did have a Disney movie Club exclusive and you can only get them on eBay now
Some honorable mentions: Airheads Guess Who 2005 Hard Boiled (Blu OOP) The Killer (Blu OOP) Ernest Saves Christmas Encino Man Fortress (DVD is full frame only and Blu OOP)
500 dollars on eBay long oop. Ernest Saves Christmas made my holiday movies stuck on DVD too. Encino Man would be a day one purchase. Guess who is a a good one. Never Saw Hard Boiled, and the Fortress has been on my radar for a while! Great recommendations
I do keep a list of movies without a 4K or blu-ray to watch out for: Strange Days Idiocracy Loaded Weapon 1 Best of the Best 1 and 2 Kickboxer 2 Pink Floyd: The Wall Only The Strong American Anthem Hidden In The Shadow of the Moon (2019) Lean On Me Project X (1987) Regarding Henry Stowaway (2021) Sunshine (1999)
I will thanks! I think some of those like Strange Days and Project X 1987 either have or had UK and German releases, if you have a region free player good to go. If not we can only hope they come sooner or later. Idiocracy would be a day one purchase.
Recently I did get a few that played just fine with out having to switch region codes, I think every thing from Germany is so far. UK was hit or miss and Italy and France so far alway come stamped region B, and play all regions.
I wish we could get a blu ray of Quiet Cool with James Remar I have a laser disc and vhs copy of it and I seen they put out a double feature on dvd that included Quiet Cool but I didn’t know it existed and of course it’s out of print just my luck
Wow just saw one on Amazon over 200, and one on eBay for 144! That’s crazy and I never heard about this until today! I go thrifting regularly if I ever find one I’d send it to you in a heart beat!
@ thanks man I appreciate it if you find one for the right price I would definitely buy it from you hopefully it will get at least a blu ray release one day but I doubt it wasn’t a super popular movie but I really like it a lot
I do I particularly enjoy colored cases, I wish I could get more colors for the Blu-ray’s. Having to replace the broken ones or eco case, I found this was satisfying and efficient. I posted a link to them in the description.
Having to replace all the crappy eco cases I bought a case of red ones. Any DVDs that don’t have a Blu-ray or I’m keeping forever get a red case as I rewatch them. For the last few years I’ve been using colored cases. I like the aesthetic. The simpsons has a yellow case and all the horror films are in clear cases etc….
Stakeout Disorderlies The Hitman (Chuck Norris) Hardly Working (Jerry Lewis) Cocoon Jimmy The Kid and On The Right Track (Gary Coleman films) Powder Phenomenon Dangerous Minds
Lots of great ones there, I think the only ones I hadn’t seen, were Hardley Working & Jimmy The Kid… Stakeout would be a day one purchase. The 2nd one did get a Blu-ray which is very frustrating.
The Studios as I have heard during the Pandemic was the cost cutting would only include movies that will make them money on Blu-ray or 4k witch is pricey even now to produce A title for the Blu-ray or 4k.To the collector it's I wonder why. To the average view now may never have seen it. You have many variables to release a title.Look again at the babysitter is dead ad Turner and Hooch may be on Blu-ray or 4k overseas 🤔 Arrow Umbrella ect. Many unfortunately won't see a dism like Recent BARBARIAN Exept on bootleg Blu-ray
Yeah cost cutting is a huge unfortunate factor. I’ve seen a copies of Don’t tell mom the Babysitter is dead, I’m 100 percent positive they are really good bootlegs or homebrews, even have a barcode. When I go to Warner Bros website the buy on disc link goes directly to the Amazon dvd, and can’t find anything on an official release. Turner and Hooch has a Blu-ray in a few other countries and I think they are all out of print now, the cheapest one I found was 38 dollars and $15.99 for shipping. Honestly I would be happy if just 5 of these titles got a Blu-ray.
Love the list. Id definitely grab Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead, Weekend At Bernies 2, Grandma's Boy, and Perfect Score on blu. Some Id like to have on bluray, I know most are Disney so fat chance: Ducktales the Movie That Darn Cat(both original and remake) Flubber Brave Little Toaster Kung Pow Enter the Fist(guilty pleasure) Dickie Roberts Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore Bringing out the Dead(I know this just got a 4k release in September but it's already out of print. Insane.) Borat(A US release) Dumb and Dumberer Encino Man Funny Games(2007) Glass House(2001) The Hitcher(2007) Investing the Abbots The Jacket(2005) National Lampoons Loaded Weapon Hot Shots! (Both) Pink Cadillac Ready to Rumble Romper Stomper Screwed
Awesome list! I’ve seen most of those and would love to have many of them! Flubber, That Darn Cat would be day ones. I also have The Cat from Outer Space only ever had a dvd, another good old Disney film that’ll probably never get a release.
U had two movies in my collection that I would like to see metro n blankman, I would like to see The adventures of Pluto Nash, bad company the one with Chris rock and Anthony Hopkins
Bad Company was a good one, I need the dvd now thanks. Pluto Nash I remember it and still haven't seen it, but I was just reminded of Double Take with Orlando Jones and Eddie Griffin, thats a fun one only on DVD.
Shattered Glass is getting a Blu-ray from Imprint Films for March release (Its Australian but region free so it'll work in all players). What About Bob would be a day one for sure. here is that preorder link: viavision.com.au/shop/shattered-glass-2003-imprint-collection-390/
You're welcome, I might have missed that one myself if I hadn't seen the trailer the same day I got the email for the release. It'll be a first time watch for me really looking forward to it.
Those hidden gem or Saturday afternoon films are the best! Not sure if it's nostalgia or what, but those kind of movies always suck me in. If looks could Kill!! I forgot all about this one thanks, didn't know it was called Teen Agent.
It really is a problem and this goes back way before streaming was a thing! Down and Out In Beverly Hills, Outrageous Fortune are just some of the many Touchstone films that only had a VHS & DVD home video release.
Anything thats high risk by todays standards or doesnt have a big cult following or is expensive to remaster is likely to get skipped for blu-ray / 4K UHD i suspect. Some mentioned probably fall into that category.
That’s one that hopefully gets a boutique release, some of the labels like Vinegar Syndrome, Scream Factory and Kino will take suggestions. You can email them give the full title, year it was made and the studio. They’ll pass it along to their buyers, and they can look into it. Nothing is a guarantee, but if there is audience interest that’s better than them guessing what to release next.
@@80sMadeConsumer hopefully one day 🤞we only have a DVD of the Film which I own but I want to At least a Blu-ray or 4K and maybe it won’t be so underrated
One title that absolutely needs an upgrade to SOME kind of high definition release is 1994's THE REF, starring Kevin Spacey and Denis Leary. This severely underrated overlooked Christmas film has only been available on a horrible looking non anamorphic DVD - it causes issues for me in my home theater because my Panasonic UHD BD player doesn't have a zoom button on the remote, so I can't zoom in on the image to correct for the messed up aspect ratio. Instead, I have to use my Samsung TV's picture size adjust, which is a massive pain in the ass because it requires guessing where the ratio should end up on the screen. Because of this handicap, I've been forced to rebuy most of my non anamorphic collection on Blu or 4K, and this has gotten extremely expensive. Unfortunately, titles like THE REF haven't been released on anything other than a NA DVD. Another I'd like to see is 1996's THE SUBSTITUTE with Tom Berringer; they released a Blu-ray four film collection, but the first (and best) film needs to be released as a standalone Blu or 4K....I just got the Artisan double feature DVD from my wife for the holidays, which bundles THE SUBSTITUTE and SUBSTITUTE 3 (for whatever reason), but it too is non anamorphic, even though reviews said it was. So now I'm stuck with the non anamorphic flipper disc because there's no other release of the film on disc, as far as I know.
I love the Ref, it made my holiday films with no Blu-ray or 4k. I had that problem with my Panasonic UB9000, but messed with the settings and now it plays DVDs in the original aspect. I don’t think it upscales them anymore, good enough. I haven’t seen the Substitute in years, think I only ever saw the 1st one. I’ll need to revisit that soon thank you. Here is a link to that video: ua-cam.com/video/n-pay0f0Iz4/v-deo.htmlsi=kSD_udQfgi935hDi
@80sMadeConsumer Thank you for your response....and I'll check out the video. I too have a UB9000 but I'm not sure what you mean by that you messed with it so it now shows DVDs in their original aspect - what I was saying was that there's no zoom button on the remote, like the Oppos have, to correct for non anamorphic DVDs. Can you elaborate on what you meant? Thank you.
@ I I get it and yeah a zoom would be great. When I first got the unit some DVDs would play fine didn’t matter if it was a wide screen or full screen dvd. There was a good number that would show the image a quarter of the size and then I’d have black bars all around. Pop the disc in my Sony no problem. There was a setting I turned off that said show in original aspect for DVDs. I think it was trying to upscale and caused it to be smaller.
@@80sMadeConsumer Oh....well, I leave mine on Auto for the resolution, which engages upscaling for non-4K discs, but this doesn't create the problem with seeing the "window boxing" (which is what you're describing with regard to all the black areas around the image) - it's because the Panasonic 4K players are programmed to show all content in widescreen, so these non anamorphic DVDs with letterboxing show up as pillar boxed. With the Oppos and the Cambridge Audio player I had before the UB9000, you could fix this with one press of the remotes zoom button.
If you are talking about the originals, they both have Blu-rays and The War of The Worlds from 1953 did get a 4k release in 2023. Both remakes have a Blu-ray, and only War of The Worlds from 2005 had a 4k release in 2020.
@@80sMadeConsumer Yeah it's a good film, kind of surprised that this was only ever offered on DVD and an SD stream. They never even put out an HD stream.
Whats with the red cases? 🤔 First I though you have put these "special" titles in them but then, some of those movoes were in stantard black cases. Sooo, what the logic in those colors, or is there any?
@@joeybuddy96 ok, I see. Thought you had changed origInal cases to red ones for some reason. I have seen some people doing that. One had all horrors in red cases, war movies and westerns in black, scifi and fantasy in blue, christmas movies in green , and so on...
As I rewatch my DVDs any that I’m keeping forever or never had a Blu-ray get the red case. It’s partly for organization and I enjoy the aesthetic. Over the years I’ve put certain movies in colored cases, The Simpsons has a yellow case, The Hulk has a green one, The Blob has a pink case. All my horror movies get a clear case etc…
I’ll have to check for the other ones, but Slither has a Blu-ray Shout factory out it out a few years ago, and I saw that there was a Blu-ray release in a few different countries too.
What an amazing load of mediocrity! Every selection even more forgettable than the last! There is a good reason why these movies never made it to blu ray. See if you can figure out what it is.
I guess we all have different tastes. I personally enjoy these films, but I believe that not every movie is for everyone; however, there is a movie for everyone.
To your list, I would add: ‘Light of Day’ (1987) w/ Michael J. Fox, Joan Jett, Gena Rowlands, Michael McKean. The best it’s gotten is a European release on DVD but never a US DVD release ‘Cal’ (1984) Helen Mirren (got an Asian release of some kind on DVD but otherwise is stuck on VHS) ‘Six Weeks’ (1982) Mary Tyler Moore, Dudley Moore. Still stuck on VHS ‘Same Time, Next Year’ (1978) Alan Alda, Ellen Burstyn (don’t think this ever got even a DVD release; otherwise, still stuck on VHS) ‘Tempest’ (1982) John Cassavetes, Gena Rowlands, Susan Sarandon, Molly Ringwald (has gotten a DVD release but that’s it) ‘White Palace’ (1989) Susan Sarandon, James Spader, Eileen Brennan, Kathy Bates, Jason Alexander (still just a barebones DVD) ‘Private Benjamin’ (1980) Goldie Hawn, Eileen Brennan (still just a barebones DVD although I live in hope of a special edition BluRay or 4K) ‘Double Edge’ (1992) Faye Dunaway (just DVD) ‘Albino Alligator’ (1996) Faye Dunaway, Virgo Mortenson, Matt Dillon, Gary Sinese (still stuck on DVD but was directed by Kevin Spacey, which may be partly why it’s still stuck there ‘Between Two Women’ (1986) Farrah Fawcett, Colleen Dewhurst, Steven Hill (only got a VHS release probably because it was a TVM) ‘Bed and Breakfast’ (1992) Roger Moore, Talia Shire, Colleen Dewhurst, Nina Siemasko (got a European DVD release but still stuck on VHS in North America) & the last one- ‘Rules of Attraction’ (2002) James Van Der Beek, Ian Somerhalder, Shannyn Sossaman, Jessica Biel (still stuck on DVD).
What movie do you want to see get a 2025 or ; what would be a ? Also a link to the red DVD cases is in the description.
Minority Report, it's on Blu, but on want a 4K. With no DNR or AI craziness. That or THX 1138.
Wouldnt mind to get Dogma in bluray format.
And Spielberg i imagine will remove the bleach bypass on the 4K of Minority Report like he did to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crytal Skull
I also wish ET Special Edition was available I know everyone hated the walkie talkies and censored dialog, but i saw the cleaned-up picture and sound in 2002 and was awed. I only ever saw the film on VHS as a kid so seeing even a messed with version was a good experience, much like watching the Special Editions of Star Wars in the 1990s. Spielberg never will, I have the DTS DVD and the version with the orchestra being played live., that came with a remastered CD.
I never knew there were so many good ones still not on Blu-ray, but you forgot about Flubber and Son In Law!
Those are great too Ive talked about those recently and day ones for sure
Good choices there! For me I would love to have.....
1. Private Benjamin 1980
2. Moving 1988 Richard Pryor
3. Midnight Madness 1980
4. Big Top Pee Wee 1988
5. Cops And Robbersons 1994
6. Cannonball Run II
7. In The Army Now 1994
8. Encino Man 1992
9. Son In Law 1993
10. What About Bob? 1991
11. Three Men And A Baby 1987
12. Three Men And A Little Lady 1990
13. Man Of The House 2005 Tommy Lee Jones
14. Little Giants 1994
15. Ewok Adventure 1984
Tip Toes needs to come to blu ray...but the TRAILER must be included as a special feature/extra.
Man I didn’t even think of that 😂 that trailer felt like a fake movie inside of another movie. Something about Gary Oldman’s best role or something haha
Great picks! My top two that deserve a bluray are I ❤ Huckabees and Smoke Signals. Happy New Year to all!
I'll have to check out Smoke Signals, kind of shocked Huckabees isn't on blu-ray yet. Happy New Year
I'd love to see a Whole Ten Yards blu-ray (Whole Nine Yards could use a re-do also).
‘The Hard Way’ was a Universal title, not Touchstone. That’s the key reason why KinoLorber was able to license it.
@ yeah I noticed that as I was checking my kino titles. There were a couple of Touchstone, but mostly Universal, MGM, and Fox.
I saw in Cinemas "Dont tell mom Babysitter Dead "😂....Christina Applegate looks stunning funny comedy good fun even my folks laughed back in 1992
It’s a fun one that deserves a Blu-ray, and it’s one of they ever put it in theaters again I’d go see it.
This was my favorite video of 2025 🤣 being Jan 1st and this was the very first video I watched today! Great Video; Happy New Year
I would add these
1. Carny with Gary Busey and Jodi Foster,
2. Under the Rainbow with Carrie Fisher and Chevy Chase
3. Modern Problems with Chevy Chase and Patti D'Arnbanville
4. Just You and Me Kid with George Burns and Brooke Shields
Carny, Under the Rainbow, Modern Problems, and Just You and Me Kid would be day ones for me. Very underrated films
One of my favorite scenes from Ruthless People is when Judge Reinhold's character carefully takes a spider outside on a newspaper and lets it go...just to go back out and squash it! Still don't have that one, haven't seen it around to pick up!
😂 great scene! Really hope we get a Blu-ray soon, I think everyone should own it!
Some really great picks, I have a couple of those and will be looking out for the others! Knockaround guys would be a day one purchase.
First Power with Lou Diamond Philips, Down Periscope with Kelsey Grammer and Weekend at Bernies 2
Down Periscope I still have that on VHS, a Blu-ray would be great. I’ll have to check out First Power thanks.
Just got the blu ray for murder by numbers for my Sandra Bullock collection.Only released in Spain region free .
That’s a good one, I’ll have to import that one too. Only have it on VHS, a very I
Underrated film. Between all the other imports and preorders it’ll have to wait, but thanks for letting me know.
Really want the 1985 film Thunder Alley on BR (only on VHS) & The Simpsons Movie in 4K. Thanks for all the great content 👍
I haven’t seen Thunder Alley, I’ll definitely look for it. Simpsons on 4k should print money for Disney not sure why they haven’t done that yet. Glad you enjoyed, and 2025 is looking to be a great year for movies on home video.
Happy new year!
You too, 2025 is going to be a great year for movies.
I remember people finding the LICENSE TO DRIVE blu at Target when they had a $5 section. Never found it in my area.
Man wish I did what a find! If one goes low enough I might grab it and still way over pay. Just afraid if I do a 4k is right around the corner.
Great selections! "Fools Rush In" is my guilty pleasure movie. It just feels good. "A Murder Of Crows" is excellent. Captain Ron 👍. "Second Sight" sounds interesting. A few titles I'd like to see get a bluray release are:
Nurse Betty _ Private Benjamin _ The Son In Law _ Above Suspicion 1995 _ The Stepford Wives 1978 _ Shadow Of The Vampire _ La Cucaracha _ Angels And Insects _ Sunshine 1999 _ The Scapegoat 2012.
That’s a fun one, almost picked up the VHS a few times while thrifting. I’ve been holding out for a Blu-ray of that and Rookie of The Year.
Fools Rush, Suicide Kings, and Don't Tell Mom... are definitely day one purchases for me if they got a Blu-Ray release.
Same for me, I would add Captain Ron all day ones for sure. Was there something I didn’t mention you’d add?
@80sMadeConsumer Clean and Sober (Michael Keaton). That's a movie I haven't seen in years, but I just read that it doesn't have a Blu-Ray and I'm even having a hard time finding the DVD of it.
@@TonyThompson1981 Wow that is one iI haven't heard of and seriously need to start looking for it, thanks.
The license to drive scene was even more funny bc it was a cup of hot coffee, the look on his face is priceless😂
As for the red cases I’ve talked about switching to colored cases, because I enjoy the asetchic.
Man I really need to get my Laser Disc collection going. Thunder in Paradise is good, but I’ll take Mr Nanny instead!
@ I recently re-watched Mr Nanny w my daughter. Watching that thru adult eyes, those kids are little sociopaths who almost kill their body guard on multiple occasions, for no reason. I’d be okay for hogan to leg drop both of them and roll credits 😂
But yea! Basically anything Hogan, I’d get. That was my dude growing up.
@ hahah yeah there are a ton of films that are like that. Remember the 90s all the kids talked back and knew better than everyone. Rewatch House Arrest, it’s not the same anymore haha.
What’s aggravating is most of these are available in HD or 4k digitally, these studios need to start physically dropping these asap
Either that or license them out to boutiques.
That all works for me, boggles the mind to have 4k restorations or upscales on streaming and nothing physical. Literally leaving money on the table.
How Idiocracy does not have a blu ray is beyond me!
I’m right there with you, and I’ve put off getting the DVD bc the Blu-ray should have been here long ago!
But because it was a Fox title, we’re at the mercy of the big Mouse…
@@willnoiles2001 very unfortunate, I’ve always hated when companies buy everything. Zero completion only hurts the consumer.
I actually just bought the German version of Grandma's boy on Blu Ray!
Nice I went a bit overboard on my German imports recently. Hoping to grab that one soon. Prices aren’t bad it’s the shipping that adds up real fast.
man u got to Shake, Shake , Shake that Disk Case....😂 this one , this ....trying to read the Name movie since allnu say is this one, making my brain 🤯
Haha you got me there, I’m a hand talker something I’m working on. I’m pretty sure the movie was Whatever It Takes.
Love me some Blankman!
Very underrated!
I am very surprised that the Lethal Weapon series has not been released on 4KBD yet. I know there are two different Blu-rays. They also never released the first three films' director's cuts in HD. Those still remain only on DVD and digital SD.
I am too, but with the talks of a 5th one I think if they do it’ll release around then. That would be the smart thing to do, who know though.
@@bonesjackson81 thanks I’ll check it out today, and sold on Tin Man! Thanks
@@80sMadeConsumer Thank you! I did find that brand in my searching but the clasp looked sketchy to me. I will reconsider and give them a shot!
@ I think you’ll be happy, there really solid. The only thing better imo was the original dense cases from 20 years ago.
Turner & Hooch has a Bluray release...btw. It might be an AU release
Yeah there was a couple countries that got that one. I think they are all out of print, because the cheapest I could find was 56 bucks and trending around 100.
I've got a big list but my most wanted titles are Disney titles

3. Alive 1994
4. Blood and Wine 1998

28. Annabelle's Wish great Christmas movie
29. Catch 22 1974
30. House Party films all of them
31. Ladies and Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains 1983
Also yes Blankman needs a Blu-Ray so bad I love this fun 90s superhero comedy film it deserves it so bad.
Love this topic
Awesome glad you enjoyed.
Freaky Friday is prime for one since the sequel is coming.
It’s a no brainer, but wouldn’t shock me in the least if they didn’t. Hope they rerelease it. It did have a Disney movie Club exclusive and you can only get them on eBay now
Some honorable mentions:
Airheads
Guess Who 2005
Hard Boiled (Blu OOP)
The Killer (Blu OOP)
Ernest Saves Christmas
Encino Man
Fortress (DVD is full frame only and Blu OOP)
500 dollars on eBay long oop. Ernest Saves Christmas made my holiday movies stuck on DVD too. Encino Man would be a day one purchase. Guess who is a a good one. Never Saw Hard Boiled, and the Fortress has been on my radar for a while! Great recommendations
I do keep a list of movies without a 4K or blu-ray to watch out for:
Strange Days
Idiocracy
Loaded Weapon 1
Best of the Best 1 and 2
Kickboxer 2
Pink Floyd: The Wall
Only The Strong
American Anthem
Hidden
In The Shadow of the Moon (2019)
Lean On Me
Project X (1987)
Regarding Henry
Stowaway (2021)
Sunshine (1999)
I will thanks! I think some of those like Strange Days and Project X 1987 either have or had UK and German releases, if you have a region free player good to go. If not we can only hope they come sooner or later. Idiocracy would be a day one purchase.
@@80sMadeConsumer I don't have a region free player, just the Panasonic UB820. A lot of imports are all-region, fortunately.
@ thanks man I appreciate it if you find one for the right price I would definitely buy it from you hopefully it will get at least a blu ray release one day but I doubt it wasn’t a super popular movie but I really like it a lot
do you buy red dvd cases? I don't normally see that
I do I particularly enjoy colored cases, I wish I could get more colors for the Blu-ray’s. Having to replace the broken ones or eco case, I found this was satisfying and efficient. I posted a link to them in the description.
Nice video
Glad you liked it!
Hey, what is the deal with the red DVD boxes? Is that so you know which movies are DVD-only releases?
Having to replace all the crappy eco cases I bought a case of red ones. Any DVDs that don’t have a Blu-ray or I’m keeping forever get a red case as I rewatch them. For the last few years I’ve been using colored cases. I like the aesthetic. The simpsons has a yellow case and all the horror films are in clear cases etc….
@@80sMadeConsumer Right on, cool 👍 Just found it interesting.
Stakeout
Disorderlies
The Hitman (Chuck Norris)
Hardly Working (Jerry Lewis)
Cocoon
Jimmy The Kid and On The Right Track (Gary Coleman films)
Powder
Phenomenon
Dangerous Minds
Some Id like to have on bluray, I know most are Disney so fat chance:
Ducktales the Movie
That Darn Cat(both original and remake)
Flubber
Brave Little Toaster
Kung Pow Enter the Fist(guilty pleasure)
Dickie Roberts
Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Bringing out the Dead(I know this just got a 4k release in September but it's already out of print. Insane.)
Borat(A US release)
Dumb and Dumberer

It just really bugs me that if streaming didn't exist, more movies would get a blu-ray release. Streaming is trash.
You are spot on! The amount of DVDs they cranked out and now it’s barely anything that hasn’t been out before. Streaming is the worst
I'd really love to see shattered glass and what about bob surpass dvd.
Shattered Glass is getting a Blu-ray from Imprint Films for March release (Its Australian but region free so it'll work in all players). What About Bob would be a day one for sure. here is that preorder link: viavision.com.au/shop/shattered-glass-2003-imprint-collection-390/
@80sMadeConsumer oh snap! Thanks!
You're welcome, I might have missed that one myself if I hadn't seen the trailer the same day I got the email for the release. It'll be a first time watch for me really looking forward to it.
If Looks Could Kill or Teen Agent in the UK. I saw it quite a few times on tv as a kid. It’s a cheese fest but it’s fun and goofy.
Those hidden gem or Saturday afternoon films are the best! Not sure if it's nostalgia or what, but those kind of movies always suck me in. If looks could Kill!! I forgot all about this one thanks, didn't know it was called Teen Agent.
I forgot about if Looks could Kill! Adding that DVD to my shopping cart. Thx for the reminder!
Turner & Hooch is a Touchstone/Disney dilemma 😵💫
It really is a problem and this goes back way before streaming was a thing! Down and Out In Beverly Hills, Outrageous Fortune are just some of the many Touchstone films that only had a VHS & DVD home video release.
Anything thats high risk by todays standards or doesnt have a big cult following or is expensive to remaster is likely to get skipped for blu-ray / 4K UHD i suspect. Some mentioned probably fall into that category.
I suspect that from the big studios, hoping the boutique labels step up.
I wanna see Stay Alive get a Blu-ray release might not happen since Disney owns the rights
@@80sMadeConsumer Just left a comment in your other video....👍
I was wondering if The Time Machine or The War of the Worlds have 4k blu rays?
If you are talking about the originals, they both have Blu-rays and The War of The Worlds from 1953 did get a 4k release in 2023. Both remakes have a Blu-ray, and only War of The Worlds from 2005 had a 4k release in 2020.
Yes! I have the Time Machine 1960 and 2002 versions on bluray. War of the worlds is available on 4k. all on amazon
@@80sMadeConsumer ah great thanks for your reply, I'm in the UK so I hope I can get these, yeah I was talking about the original 1950s films.
@@darreng4248 Time Machine had an HMV exclusive Blu-ray, and there was a UK 4k release double feature War of the worlds & When Worlds Collide.
@@80sMadeConsumer Great, thank you
far north (2007)
Man thanks for the recommendation, great cast just ordered the dvd!
I have been waiting forever for the 1988 ‘Far North’ by Sam Sheperd and starring Jessica Lange to get a BluRay release…
HD-DVD cases were red, but those titles look like dvds. Maybe it's for organization purposes or bc the original case was broken.
The Beach?
That is a good one, I only have the VHS, and a Blu-ray would be an easy pickup.
This one: ua-cam.com/video/AzqI2jisi1k/v-deo.html Novocaine (2001) with Steve Martin, Laura Dern, Helena Bonham Carter
Awe man I remember this one when I worked at the video rental store, and I don't think I ever saw it. I will be tracking down a dvd asap thanks.
@@80sMadeConsumer It's a 4-star movie, IMO. Darkly comic neo-noir.
Dude, hold the DVD's a bit more still. I can't see what they are, and I'm getting giddy.
I know 😂 I’m a passionate hand talker! Check out my last two videos, it’s something I’ve been working on.
@80sMadeConsumer ha ha, very passionate 😆 Just found your channel, loving the videos mate. Cheers!
@ thanks brother! Thanks for the feedback
Stay Alive
Slither
Drive Thru
Siren
I’ll have to check for the other ones, but Slither has a Blu-ray Shout factory out it out a few years ago, and I saw that there was a Blu-ray release in a few different countries too.
What an amazing load of mediocrity! Every selection even more forgettable than the last! There is a good reason why these movies never made it to blu ray. See if you can figure out what it is.
I guess we all have different tastes. I personally enjoy these films, but I believe that not every movie is for everyone; however, there is a movie for everyone.
To your list, I would add:
‘Light of Day’ (1987) w/ Michael J. Fox, Joan Jett, Gena Rowlands, Michael McKean. The best it’s gotten is a European release on DVD but never a US DVD release
‘Cal’ (1984) Helen Mirren (got an Asian release of some kind on DVD but otherwise is stuck on VHS)
‘Six Weeks’ (1982) Mary Tyler Moore, Dudley Moore. Still stuck on VHS
‘Same Time, Next Year’ (1978) Alan Alda, Ellen Burstyn (don’t think this ever got even a DVD release; otherwise, still stuck on VHS)
‘Tempest’ (1982) John Cassavetes, Gena Rowlands, Susan Sarandon, Molly Ringwald (has gotten a DVD release but that’s it)
‘White Palace’ (1989) Susan Sarandon, James Spader, Eileen Brennan, Kathy Bates, Jason Alexander (still just a barebones DVD)
‘Private Benjamin’ (1980) Goldie Hawn, Eileen Brennan (still just a barebones DVD although I live in hope of a special edition BluRay or 4K)
‘Double Edge’ (1992) Faye Dunaway (just DVD)
‘Albino Alligator’ (1996) Faye Dunaway, Virgo Mortenson, Matt Dillon, Gary Sinese (still stuck on DVD but was directed by Kevin Spacey, which may be partly why it’s still stuck there
‘Between Two Women’ (1986) Farrah Fawcett, Colleen Dewhurst, Steven Hill (only got a VHS release probably because it was a TVM)
‘Bed and Breakfast’ (1992) Roger Moore, Talia Shire, Colleen Dewhurst, Nina Siemasko (got a European DVD release but still stuck on VHS in North America)
& the last one-
‘Rules of Attraction’ (2002) James Van Der Beek, Ian Somerhalder, Shannyn Sossaman, Jessica Biel (still stuck on DVD).
