Seeing the ivory-billed woodpecker in the summer of 2018 was an unforgettable experience. After hearing its call, I saw it and it looked exactly like the one shown in the video. It was located in a woodlot next to a lake at Johnny Henderson Park which is near the Choctawhatchee River.
Very interesting video, showing the difference between two similar species. I really like Campephilus, my favorite is C. magellanicus, which I was able to see and record in images.
I think Blue Jays just have similar calls to Ivory-billeds more than true mimicry. I know Blue Jays are accomplished mimics but I've heard kent like notes in NY and Ct.
smart aleck remark here ... take it with a grain of salt --- do you have a degree in "birding" with a few letters behind your name??? No?? then don't matter what you saw/heard they will not believe you - now being serious there have been some very good sightings/hearings but those have been scoffed at because the person was not the "right" person - not with just this bird but with others too - yes, yes I know the "experts" have to be sure but I have seen enough to be convinced they are out there
But people are notoriously bad at identifying things. I've seen people look at a bird guide picture of a Barn Owl, then point at a Pigeon and say 'See, that is a Barn Owl!'.
IDK if Ivory-billed woodpeckers are extinct or not.
@@austineafford I think that’s fair
I am currently making a homemade documentary on these guys. I might include some of these tips. Cool Video

Shh it lives in east Texas, seen them while hiking and they had ivory bill
It got seen today
I think it was proven that it was sighted back in April 2022 back in Louisiana. I don't know though.
3:53 Genera, not genuses.
So the word genus isn’t a thing/word anymore? Ok
