Winnipeg's Transitway Network Evolution
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 січ 2021
- From its beginning in 2012, the Winnipeg southwest transitway has grown to a network of over 13 stations, spanning 11 kilometres (7 miles). This animated video takes you through the timeline of when new stations were opened, forming the Blue rapid transit network that we know today.

Winnipeg Southwest Transitway Blue route
Step 1: Open first phase
Step 2: And that's where we are today.
That’s gotta be one of the shortest videos on this channel 😂😂
I'm just glad he covered Winnipeg lol.
I didn't even know Winnipeg had a transitway.
Yes we do
Now you do, but roads just for buses isn't anything to get excited about.
@@roachtoasties this city is too bureaucratic to get anything done. I really wish we had LRT in Winnipeg. But I understand the city cannot manage its money anyway, so, that's out of the picture.
They have always thought in the present and they never think about the future. Once you have so many buses running on a transit way, it essentially just becomes a LRT in the end.
I was born and raised in Winnipeg, they really missed an opportunity in building a rail transit system back in the 1980’s. They’ve fumbled the bag so hard on this, they done so many consultations on adding rail transit that never amount to nothing. You know how much it would cost to build a rapid rail or light rail transit today? Probably in the billions, back then it would’ve costed at least a couple hundred million but not with todays rising costs.
Also, why is the bus transit way for the south end? Such a missed opportunity.
Kinda sad that Winnipeg got rid of its streetcar/ electric railways. It was a really neat system. Great video though!
Was wondering. Would you consider doing videos on 400 series highways in the GTA? It's not technically "public transport" but it would make for an interesting video. Especially the cancelled expressways around Toronto.
Oh thanks for posting this. I'm from Winnipeg and was wondering if you were going to cover our new transitway :-)
And it will only be 10 more years until we MAYBE get another branch on the transitway!
Like a subway system!
great video those buses from winnipeg looknice
Nice video!!!!
I'm probably never going to visit canada but I still enjoy watching your videos
VU is stalling until Bloomington GO opens so that he can relase his updated Evolution of Toronto Regional Rail video
1. Still not Open, 2. No, he just wanted to get this out of the way
@@n1thmusic229 It was a joke. Bloomington was supposed to open in late 2020/early 2021 so the joke was that VU already finished the video (since its like the last Canadian video he had to update outside Alberta), and he was doing smaller system with not much to them to bide his time. Now we know that Bloomington has been delayed for who knows how long.
This was super confusing since I was expecting the center of the map to be downtown
You sound a lil different in this video, idk maybe I’m just thinking too much but I hope you’re well and taking care of yourself!
In the future, there might be added a transitway into the Eastern Area of Winnipeg. From Downtown to Transcona for the rapid transitway. We should have a streetcar in our Cities than a transit bus.
There won't be. The city has scrapped all future plans for transitways.
And now with decreasing ridership and no more provincial funding, I don't see those plans being upgraded.
I agree with their current plan, change the routes to improve frequency and speed.
And street cars are the worst of both worlds. They don't have the flexibility and affordability of buses, and they don't have the capacity or speed of light rail.
No, we should have a subway system starting from the bus depot to The Forks.
With the people currently in Government, don't hold your breath on that one. The "dog leg" route was such a disappointment. It's still probably faster to take an express bus along Pembina Hwy, than to veer off into suburban F
ort Garry. I though the whole point of rapid transit, was to built a line what will be "rapid" and save time. It would have helped if they built it parallel along Pembina, where many seniors and low income people (who actually ride transit) live.
@@TheOwenMajor Typical transit shortsightedness in the U.S. and Canada. We're traveling by horseback while they're zipping along in Europe.
A bus whoopie!
I've been in several Canadian cities, and of any city over 500,000 people, Winnipeg has, by far, the WORST rapid transit system in the country. And that even includes Ottawa, and their disastrous O-Line.
It’s cute, it’s very functional
that was fast
They literally went back from using electric street cars to diesel buses. Only city that is developing backwards.
so most of north america then?
Hope they get it figured out. Transit still plays second fiddle to car traffic. Winnipeg is a car city.
Regardless of where you live, if you have a car, why would you bus anyways?
@@TheCandoRailfan Yeah, Plus I get that our Transit system isn't the greatest, but we have so many Networks of routes and stops and a lot of People rely on Our Transit. I think it would be less costly to ride than drive, and with the new Transit ways it'll be even faster!
So are all cities in Canada, but go to Calgary and see how successful rapid transit lines are built. I still miss parking my vehicle, and riding the C-Train.
Would you be able to do a video on the transit system of Kingston, ON? There is a lot of history there as well with regards to transit, train production/manufacturing, etc.
This should be an LRT. LRT would make transit more reliable in Winnipeg.
I think doing light rail would have been far better than this short busway. It's rapid transit on the cheap. You start with one light rail line and add from there. Busways all over the city is impractical and will never happen. Los Angeles has also stuck in some busways, where it should have been light rail. Dumb for the long term.
It would be hard to extend light rail to U of M or St. Norbert and LRT isn’t that much faster
Google Winnipeg transit master plan.
that actually looks like a really good idea.
🇨🇦
The Canadian capital of low expectations.
I wish Vancouver had a transit way. Buses and trolleys share the streets with cars. Vancouver is also the last city in BC to have electric trolleys powered by an overhead catenary system. If Vancouver had a transit way, the streets would be less congested. But at least Vancouver has a light rail system in the form of the SkyTrain
your sad vancouver has actual metro and lots of rapid buses? I just moved to Vancouver literally 0 traffic here. Translink is doing a fantastic job.
Wanna hear a joke?
Winnipeg transit
Wanna hear a real joke? Lee.
'Winnipeg, Canada' doesn't really say much about where this city is-Canada is big. Can you say which province? Stiff shit for any Yanks with poor geography knowledge; the rest of us know the Canadian provinces as well as the majority of the US states.
Ik, lol. It's the southern part of Manitoba near the Big Lake with like an open mouth type thing. You probably already searched it up or something but Might as well be helpful anyways, lol
thats toronto not winnipeg
Lol what?
Bruh, you are wrong. The city in the video is Winnipeg, not Toronto.
