- I'm playing along to the 'Tripping The Live Fantastic ' version of 'Live and Let Die', as performed by Paul McCartney with me on drums.
Lovely Istanbul Agop cymbals - Traditionals and Mantra.
My 1991 Noble & Cooley Horizon drums, plus my 5 x 14" Classic N&C snare drum I played on the McCartney tour (1989/90).

I just stumbled upon your channel from a post on "Drum Forum" about you. As a drummer, I remember watching you at one of the concerts. Your energy and style was such an integral part of the McCartney show. I completely agree that you and Joe English were the best drummers Macca had in his solo career. Thanks for sharing these wondering videos! It is great "seeing" you again Chris!!! You truly were blessed to have the ride of a lifetime playing with Paul !!!!
I agree 👍🏻 Thanks
Precise, clean, groovy, aggressive, solid, brutally artistic. Top three drummers with Nick Menza and Scott Travis.
"Live" with Chris is always fantastic !!!
Thanks
Smiling from ear to ear for every second of that masterpiece. Thank you.
Thanks
Ive only been on this a few hrs. Man if you got a few bombs and some green lasers. You have a full recreation. Well done..
Thanks
😮
You are a monster Chris! Without disparaging the other drummers Paul had, who were all very good, for some reason you and Joe English stood out to me.
Thanks. I was a BIG fan of Joe English.
Nice… 🥁👊🏻
Thanks
Chris, you are a super drummer, special thanks for working with Paul McCartney! Hello from Russia!
Thank you
This Paul's 90's formation band, was the best ever!!!!!
It was big fun!
can't agree with that - Too much "stadium rock" for me :)
Nice look, great story :)
Thanks
Absolutely superb Chris. Please continue to make these vids! Maybe some Dire Straits songs as well?
I have two already on my channel (Calling Elvis and When It Comes To You)
Thank you for posting this video. That CD is one of my favorites in terms of your drumming and overall drum sound. I smile every time I hear the "Young Master Christopher" reference. When I was a young drummer I struggled with some of the time signature changes when trying to play along to the original recording, but finally was able to figure it out. There's a UA-cam interview with Denny Seiwell where he talks about recording the original track. The entire recording took just a few hours, which to me is amazing.
I'd love to see a similar video on how you played the intro to "Coming Up" on the same CD.
Good idea
Cracking track . Boss drums. It's brilliant to hear drummers cover songs because you get much more of an idea how cool they are! Ty Chris !
Thanks
What a great toms and snare sound! OMG! And a perfomance of course
Thanks
Thank you for your amazing playing and inspiration through the years.
Absolutely awesome!!!🙏🙏🤘
All the best!
Joel
Thank you Joel. Much appreciated 🙏🏻
...fantastic...❤❤❤👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥁🥁🥁
Thank you
My favourite Bond theme. I love the different tempos, rock, classical. Must be one of the more interesting songs to play..
Definitely 👍🏻
I've spent countless hours drumming along to the Tripping the Live Fantastic album. I was unconsciously starting to air drum along to your playing in the video before I even realized it 🤘
Great!
Ha! Me too! I used to play along to that live album when I was a kid. Used to watch the “put it there” video on VHS too.
Incredible as I have my morning coffee. That kit looks and sounds awesome. Love the On the night DS album. Still listen to it.
Thanks
Oh, that is a goooood video - thanks!
Great drumming skills and great fashion sense Thank you Chris !
Thanks. (Jil Sander)
Awesome! What a great theme, what a great tour and what a great playing.
Thanks
Thank you for sharing your story and your playing.
Thanks
great
Thanks
We got married, Chris in this song is amazing....
I've waited sooooo long to see this. Glad things are going well, Chris....love to hear any "Flowers In The Dirt" stories! Cheers!
Thank you
Thank you sir for sharing your rich experience . Hello from Russia. Your timing is so precised even in this age.
Very kind, thank you.
The best drummer Macca ever had along with Denny Seiwell.
Thank you 🙏
I think that line-up with you was the best of all Paul's backing bands. His current band is fine, of course, but I always slightly regretted that only Wix was brought back.
Thanks
Me too
This just made my day!
Thanks 😊
This made my day! Thanks!
I may have listened to that album 1,000 times at least. Love your playing on "We Got Married".
Thanks
I especially like the snare on that track. It's got a great high-pitch crack to it. Were you using a N&C snare?
@@douglasmackenzie5265 Yes, the same one as in my video. Single ply Noble & Cooley Classic.

Thank you for sharing! Fantastic drumming! Really enjoyed it :)
Thank you.
Nice work, Chris. Love the changes.
Hi Chris
Thanks for sharing your experience with macca and dire straits and the Waterboys, it's great to see and hear you speaking about playing on these tours and see you playing some of the tracks up close I've knicked a few of your fills on more than one occasion 🙂 keep the stories and videos coming
Thanks.....and OK.
This is absolutely awesome mate.
Thanks Brad.
Love these videos, a great insight - thanks
Thank you. More coming...
Great drumming! And what a stunning drum kit.
Thanks
An outstanding drum part that really does Macca's writing justice. I especially like the mixed measures at 2:00-2:07. Then the great reggae passage. All keenly done.
Thanks. An interesting drum part for sure.
@@ChrisWhittenMusic To be clear, your solid execution here is fabulous. Inspirational. You have rock solid body core to support limb movement. Solid consistent hits. I'm going back to my workout routines because of this.
@@drumsticksusa Ha, ha, thanks. Yeah, I am very big on consistency (sound and dynamics).
You are amazing!
Very kind 🙏🏻
Tripping the live fantastic.
That was Fab. Thank you. I have to cover that song in a band soon and that really helps :)
Good luck - thanks
Nice ! Thanks a lot !
Thanks
Loving this, Chris! Awesome!
Thanks
that was so good .....
Thanks
Excellent
Please get in touch with the 2Legs Podcast team, they would love to have you on their podcast.
Gold!
Thanks
Wow!!!!
Love your channel I’m now a subscriber. What are the sizes of your Noble and Cooley set up for this video?
10, 12, 14 and 16" toms. 18 x 22" bass drum
Great stuff! Do you still own the Noble and Cooley kit used on the 89/90 Paul tour? I remember The Modern Drummer story about how you waited for the kit. Great to see you are still at it. Cheers!
I have an identical kit, but that McCartney kit is in the N&C factory museum.
The fill at 1:52 reminds me some of the Money for Nothing fills during the On the Night tour
Yeah, I probably have a stock of half a dozen fills I play on every song, ha, ha!
This is sooo goood. Please do a Cope song also Chris. Did you ever meet any of the Wings drummers ? In particular Joe English ? Loved his left hand lead thang !
Joe was one of my favourites. Love Wings Over America. No I haven’t met any of them.
That live performance when your killing walk of life and sultans of swing
Thanks!
Can you do walk of life 🔥
Hi Chris ! how can i have a dedicated picture of you ?? 🎵🎶
I don't have any pictures I'm afraid.
@@ChrisWhittenMusic thanks ! ok no problem, can you make a cover of sultans of swing like you did during on the night live with your minimal set of drums ? It is my favorite version, very punchy !! congratulations ! I will be so happy to see young master Christopher replay this version ! Thanks a lot ! 👍
@@annoncesboncoin1681 OK, it will go on my 'to do' list.
You are the best drummer that ever played with Paul McCartney, the others just suck.
I particularly like Joe English. Abe was fantastic when I saw Paul play a small venue show this summer....BUT, thanks for the huge compliment!
