Your videos and analysis gets better and better. I've looked at others but I think you sold me on the Code!
Thanks Clifford appreciate that and you watching
Woooo yesssss! Pickin’ mine up tomorrow, can’t wait to give it the test next weekend.
yeah let me know what you think buddy always curious with feedback if there's something i missed?
@@WadeHarrison will do man! I think you got it pretty covered on there but I’ll update you after the yough next weekend. You and Matt have me so fired up for this boat.
@@jacob_boofs awesome buddy let’s get out and paddle again soon
Yeah Wade!!!!! Lovin' mine. Really looking forward to the rain next week so I can hopefully get up to Wilson Creek at a good level. Just like you said, you gotta really lean it to catch those eddies high. But man, when you do - it's on rails.
oh yeah let me know how it turns out always like the feeback
Great review as usual! I am looking for something with more volume to go along my half slice. As a progressing beginner/intermediate I have narrowed it down to the code and the machno so hoping to demo both soon!
Oh, both are very good choices
Hi Wade, thanks for this and all your other extremely informative reviews.
I have a question re the ferrying ability of the Code. I used to paddle a WS Habitat many years ago and that was the boat with the most rocker I have paddled. I could never get it to hold a ferry angle in pushy cl 3 stuff. Does the Code behave similarly or is this not an issue. Am asking because of the pronounced rocker it has. Also, if I came down and stayed around 205lbs would the medium Code work? I am 210 at the moment.
Thanks again bud.
you are caught in that in between size so technically i say go L but the medium is actually pretty big but when comes to creekers more volume usually better coloradokayak.com/products/dagger-code-whitewater-kayak?ref=wade&variant=40787682885808
and it paddles nothing like the habitat I spent some time in one of those while out west and it was terrible.
Wade, can you go into details on the Medium vs Large? I'm 190 and I'm always on the lower side of L but enjoy the safety of a bigger boat. How easy was the Large to paddle?
I would say your more in the larger size then md these codes are sized true but your not that much more then me and I liked the feel of both so definitely try to get into both before getting one
"Workin late" tonight at the shop. I set my reminder. If I don't have customers I'll be able to watch when it drops.
awesome
Initial stability is great but what about the secondary stability and how does it roll compared to the scorch and the gnar?
It’s a super stable boat but doesn’t have that barge feel like the JK Z3 it’s got like a hybrid type edge so roll and gets around the river very well doesn’t roll over much and was fairly easy to get back up when it does very different from the gnar
@@WadeHarrison I’m having a tough time deciding between the 2 honestly. The reviews about the secondary stability on the gnarvana are killer but I’m assuming that’s because it has more edge to lean on vs the code with it having a softer edge, however, I’ve seen a lot of people say how forgiving the code is and suitable for all skill levels
What river is this? Looks siiick

@@WadeHarrison awesome, thanks! Perfect, I live in Charlotte!
Picked me up medium code. Any idea where to run the seat for trim? Leave it factory? Im 5'9 168 lbs.. thanks for the video friend. Peace
That’s really tough call actually personally I liked it better slightly back to make it bring the tail down in the water and track better most leave it in the factory spit and never move it and it’s fine it’s pretty easy to move around I tested it over a few months in different spots all kind of changed it slightly wasn’t a huge difference
You know I moved it around a bit and didnt notice a lot of diff as well...Thanks and good day to you@@WadeHarrison
Hi Wade, great video. I’m new to paddling, and the bug has bitten me real hard I am taking my 1st trip to the Taos box next weekend 🤙- group paddle in an 8 man inflatable . I think my 1st boat is going to be a do it all - Sea Eagle 380x because I need some thing that can do flat water, camping and whitewater and have the portability of an inflatable. but I eventually want a dedicated white water boat and I keep coming back to the Dagger Code - I am 6 ft and 170 - in a medium. I think the Code really appeals to me as I boat I can learn in, but won’t get bored with as I get better. Thanks for your awesome ride review. I would like to ask what your thoughts are on a 1st white water paddle that won’t break the bank.
Awesome the code is exactly that beginner to expert design and as far as a paddle there’s a few options I always say never skimp on a paddle that’s technically your engine no matter what kayak I’m in I always want a good paddle and the one i would suggest is the werner powerhouse in 200cm link below 👇
amzn.to/3DM0Zxg
@@WadeHarrison thank you Wade. I know good equipment isn’t cheap. I appreciate your input and will put this Werner at the top of my list. 🤙
Sat in small and medium Code other day. Stoked on the design, but neither size felt right for me. (I’m 6’ 135lbs.) I liked the size of the small, but the knees are way too low. Medium felt a little big, but just SO wide! Maybe it wouldn’t paddle that way. 🤔
Oh dam 6' 135 yeah the small is very small I didn't like the deck height on it either. Your going to be small in that MD at that weight Might want to see how the Small scorch turns out?
@@WadeHarrison Sal shared some small Scorch specs ab a week ago via Instagram.
Length = 259cm = 8’6”
Width* ~ 62cm ~ 24.5”
Weight = 21kg = 46lbs
Paddler = 40-75kg = 88-165lbs
(Paddled Mid = 127lbs)
Volume* ~ 265L ~ 70gal
*stated as “approximately”
That’s less volume and lower weight range than both the small Machno and small Code, so definitely a true small. Pretty sure this won’t work for me, especially with those rails. Barham commented on how unforgiving it can be if you are higher in the weight range. But who knows. I would definitely give it a try.
For now I’m considering adding a Goat to my quiver. I have an Ozone for play, so I don’t really care ab Goat not being super playful, and will use Scorch (or Billy if I keep it) for stuff I’m not comfortable on w Goat.
Sal’s post: instagram.com/p/CSuzRjZsAk3/?
Hi Wade. Just bought a CODE large. Could you tell me the advantages, disadvantages to moving the seat forward or back on this boat? Thanks!
I run My seat slightly back in the Code I feel its helps release that bow better for quick side to side moves going forward you will use more if you paddle back on the tail alot and don't like that Loose bow up there so forward would help push it down more in the water this design is pretty good right in the center it's so easy to move it around nothing wrong with doing it during a trip and keep the tool with you so can adjust on the water forward and back
Thanks Wade really appreciate the time you take to answer! Hope to meet you some time on the water in Canada!
@@danielgelinas7141 I have been eyeing that BC area for awhile it’s just lining up time and finds to take a trip there what part you in?
I’m in Québec but lived in BC for 7 years. Paddling in BC is great but always cold water. Also, always on the lookout for trees around the corner. I paddle mostly the Rouge, Tewksbury and the Ottawa. Cheers!
Medium Aurora Code on the way. Do you think a slightly longer paddle length is in order for this massive nosed boat? Great vids Wade thanks a bunch!
I like a slightly longer paddle when river running and creeking when slice boating I usually go 197 and 200cm for everything else
Could you do comparison to the scorch
coming soon
Wade, as always, great content and super helpful! Im torn between Sccorch Large and code medium. At 180 without gear it seems like my weight fits better in the COde med range but there is only 3 Liters difference between them…Does it make sense to look at the similar volume when trying to decide or are they just to different of boats to compare in that way? Same volume but quite different weight range. Would you size yourself in a med or large? Thanks, Pat
Your like me right in that in between sizes on this boat I paddled both and decided to go with the Med and glad I did it’s pretty wide boat and I was very happy with the Med for a everything type boat
Wade, would the Medium Code make a good overnighter boat? How much room is in the stern for overnighter trips?
yes it has a lot of volume in that tail to load down and you can unclip the back band easy to access back behind the seat and easy to put stuff in the front
Why can Pyranha put a seat lifter like dagger has in there boats is it a Paten thing?
I have a Phantom, but @ 210lb give or take, would the Code large be a better fit? The Phantom in big volume goes where it wants sometimes, regardless how hard i drive it....
yeah the LG code would be a better fit
Hi Wade! I'm getting some deep scratches in my Code. Have you ever tried filling scratches or add a layer of plastic over the original plastic just as a wear layer? That be also a great video. Thanks for great reviews!
No way i would ever try to mess with that unless it’s actually cracked best thing just paddle it more and they all just kinda blend in over time I agree I hate it when get off the river and massive deep scratches nothing we can really do to stop that but can tell you be very mindful of where you putin and launch you kayak that’s a place where get some bad one s
So I own a Medium Scorch and I Love it.
Which boat do you like more and think is the all around is a better boat The “Code” or Pyranha “Scorch”?
oh boy the scorch is really good and i actually like them boat a lot if its a bigger volume run where I could really open those edges up on the scorch I want that if its a like a southeast stay creek lower volume and I like the code but truly both can do it all really good I know that's not answer a lot want but they are different but really good
How does it compare to the scorch?
going to a video on that later might do more of a podcast thing o that but short answer the scorch rails are really aggressive and the code is softer
@@WadeHarrison do you personally like the softer or aggressive ones? And yes do a podcast on it everyone wants to know that answer without hurting anyone’s feelings lol I’m sure there both great but there has to be a king! Great videos!
I have both in large. In my opinion, the "missions" are different. The Code, with a 27" beam, prioritizes stability. With a 25.5" beam, the Scorch is more about speed. The Scorch is all edge/all day, while the Code feels more like the edge is on-demand. According to the videos I've seen from Pyranha, they tapered down the stern volume to make it easier to get the bow up and over stuff. The Code is full in the butt and doesn't ender on drops. Those are a few things that jump out to me.
@@Pythagorus2 If you could only buy one, which one would it be ?
@@joesee8079 Matter of personal preference but, if I was forced to choose, I'd opt for the stability over the extra speed and agility.
Hi Wade - thanks for your videos on the code and the Scorch. I’m trying to decide between the medium and large code. I’m 185 lbs - normally I would just paddle both - but I’m where I live there is no stock to even try. I’m a class 4 paddler - it’s always nice to have some extra volume for overnights or extra gear but I also don’t really want a bathtub! Any thoughts?
I'm 185 also and have paddled both and the LG is not Hugh but it is notable bigger but easy to control
if your really thinking of loading it down with gear think how much weight you will have in there? you plus all your gear on is what another 15lbs so you now 200+ now if you start adding gear in the boat I think the cut off should be about 200 on the Med so if your really thinking will be carrying a lot I say LG
What did you end up going with on Size? I'm in the same boat, can't decide what size to get. I'm 6'0 and 180lbs, dropping to 170lbs (eventually).
I'm loving this code wade ! Tell me in your opinion as I have an Antix 2.0 , for fast flowing rivers is it worth adding to the fleet, I've moved from a machno to the Antix as I thought the machno just skipped over everything and Eddie's were hard to achieve, the Antix rails make it easier to achieve.
Cheers mate love your videos and reviews from this side of the pond.
Yeah buddy I liked the Antix 2 as a player and it will be better in pushing water I did a review on it awhile back if you want to check it out

@@WadeHarrison I seen it about a hundred and fifty times mate, I'd love you to do another on your favourite river though " hint hint" 😁👍
Which boat do you recommend? It will be my first boat.
Code, Scorch or Gnarvana?? thanks
depending on what and where you are paddling
The volume on these is absurdly huge, I laid one next to a machno and it just dwarfed it...do they feel ok/handle well for someone who's a true medium?
Yeah they are wide
Was it typical Dagger leaky? Looked like a lot of water sloshing around during your summary at the end. Also, you and Matt both mentioned the low knee position in the small. I’m not a fan of low knees (e.g., small ripper). Is the medium Code any higher?
Dagger Had a rep of being a leaky kayak for years but it was mostly the play boats..
and about the knees no the MD fit prefect the small is very small matt actually could be in a MD if he would paddle bigger boats the knees are prefect to me in the MD i was just commenting on how small that dam boat is
Would love to hear your thoughts on the code if you get a chance
@@WadeHarrison glad to hear the knees in the Md felt better.
I don’t have a ton of experience w Dagger boats, but those I’ve known were not very dry. My wife actually just sold her Mamba today (she got a small Antix 2.0 and loves it!). While her Mamba wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t super dry either. And a couple weeks ago I took out a buddy’s medium rewind and it leaked a ton from one of the bolts right in front of the cockpit (the ones that secure the grab handle and step out pillar). I could literally feel water dripping onto my shin whenever the bow had water on it, and even when I leaned to make the water in the pocket of that grab handle flow over the bolt head. 😖 I checked it post-paddle and it was totally snug, so I’m not sure what the deal is.
Also, I forgot that unlike here in the PNW, you SE boaters don’t have to wear dry tops in the summer, so that explains the water in your boat, haha.
@@kevinhill.8 I dam I know exactly why that leaked they left the rubber washers off 😂 seen it happen few times and yeah I spent some time in hood river so yeah I know how that water feels out there buddy
@@kevinhill.8 I've had several Dagger boats. The first thing I do after unwrapping a new boat is go over it with a screwdriver and tighten everything, then do it again once a year. My current river runner is a Mamba that I bought new in 2014. At the end of a long day it might have 1/2 cup of water inside.
Yes yes yes yes yes I want this boat. Problem is I don’t want to get rid of my mamba either. Dagger screwed up the color though I have the cosmos mamba but this new cosmos looks like the spray paint aisle at Walmart
Wal mart spray paint that's a new one for me
Looks like a paintball gun hit it. The old color scheme was much Cleaner and cool looking I think they where getting complaints it’s unsafe …
I’ve been paddling a Mamba for three years. But the boat is getting long in the tooth. I’m 220lbs
Would this be a good next boat? Or go with a Phantom, 9RII, or a scorch?
At 220 avoid the phantom look at the LG code or Lg Scorch the 9r2 lg might be a good choice but my suggestion is Code OR Scorch LG
I did a code vs scorch video
ua-cam.com/video/oLgEeVioBkQ/v-deo.html
How's the surfing? Say compared to the goat/billy (which I seem to recall you felt surfed great)?
Billy and Goat surf better then the code..
Good beginner boat like the og mamba?
for sure good choice
Thanks Wade! How does it compare to the Phantom? I owned a Phantom for two years and loved it! Now I use a Dragorossi DRX and I love it too, but the Code attracts me. I'm 167lbs and when I changed the Phantom for the DRX I appreciated the more volume DRX has. I found sometimes the Phantom edgy on some features like steep creeking but perfect on high volume rivers. Could the Medium Code take the place of my DRX?
I have the designer coming on the podcast and we go over the differences in full detail Phantom vs code so watch for that dropping soon
@@WadeHarrison thanks 🙏
What brand is the paddle?

Hey Wade, I'm looking at getting the Dagger Code, Large. I'm 6'0 and fluctuate around 175lbs. What size paddle do you recommend and what size and brand of Spray Skirt have you really enjoyed and gotten good use out of. Thanks man!
I always go at least 200cm on river running paddles look at the select wild or warriors and if wanting to go best paddles go with the lettman or Gpower I put you in contact with who’s selling these
And skirts I use the IR Royal flush but level six is dropping a new one that looks amazing I will have a review up on it will get back southeast
Cool review thank you !! Do you think is to big for a 158 pound paddler ?
you will want to look at the MD code for your weight
@@WadeHarrison I will, thank you for your advice
I am a bigger guy - 6-2 ~ 200lbs. I sat in the large and med last weekend. I had a chance to buy the large (the mediums were sold out). The large felt too big and I passed on it. Where do you think the sweet spots for weight is on the sizes? Thanks for the videos - btw. You do a great job
wow really at your size it felt big very interesting I'm 5'10" 180 and did some laps in the LG and I liked it I still would go md
but did think I totally make the LG work I would really like to hear your thoughts after paddling one I agree it sits big when just sitting but a seat pad hip shims and On water that thing was good for me on water it did not feel Hugh but was bigger
as for the in-between sizes I think you are on it you will make the MD work just fine but the LG will work also sweet spot for MD 140-205 sweet spot for LG 180-260+ this just what I would recommend then its up to the paddler to demo and find what works
@@WadeHarrison I had paddled a large Scorch that day as a demo and my normal creek boat is a medium 'oldmad'. Maybe if I had paddled the large it would not have felt big but just sitting there the bow seemed so large
Love this !
I’m thinking about taking my 1st WW class next weekend. I’m a rec. yakker but am drawn tho this . It looks so fun
EDIT : where is this ?
you should take one I recommend the NOC they are the best in the southeast and this river is the Nantahala cascades in Western NC
First thing they teach you in WW class is they aren't called yaks and yakkers, they are boats and boaters. Once you got that, the rest is all downhill from there, literally.

Oh ok , cool I’ll remember that when I go
Good review, looks like I’m getting a code when they finally make it to Australia
Oh buddy not sure when they shipping over there could be awhile
Do as me, order it directly from US and get it freighted to you. Took about 1,5 month but it's here now :D (I live in Norway though)
Looked a fun few laps! 🤘I’m still undecided on what to get Code or Scorch 🤔 you looked like you were having a blast in both boats! I’m 185lbs on a good day excluding kit so probably thinking the large would be the better size but they look a big boat! How did you find the large buddy?
the MD scorch is money for me at 180 and trust me you will want that also at your weight I really liked that boat a lot and at my weight I was able to use that tail more
and the MD code feels about right but could go LG also so so with these I suggest trying both MD and LG
Cheers Wade 👍 really appreciate that! Been so hard trying to get boats here to demo, so you end up having to pre order the size you think will fit and hoping you made the right decision so your professional advice really helps, thank you!
Dude!! I’m totally sold!! Gotta get me one 😁
It’s seriously a really good all round type boat
Going to get mine today 🤘😎
It came through
was it easy to roll?
Yes very smooth side walls makes it pop right up
Man i'm torn. I want that code but I could also get a phantom for $700...
The phantom is still a very good choice for a paddler wanting a fast downriver kayak the code is slower and better volume placement with a edge over the phantom but really both are really good
No loop!??? 🤷♂️😂👍
its pretty dam shallow on the cades
Galasport Manic MCQ next please, sir :)
very difficult to get my hands on those I have used one briefly
great review, I am safe from buying it, it does not come in Green, ;)
Lol 😂 no green homie
The old Black Aurous color scheme was much nicer.
This looks as if it was shot with a paintball gun…..
I agree
