  • Winter or emergency feeding. This video quickly covers a pair of basic dry feeding options and their use in the apiary.
The 'Mountain Camp' method is credited to an old Internet forum post, where legend has it an individual described this method, and his handle was 'Mountain Camp'. It is a great simplification compared to candy boards etc.
Fondant feeding is increasingly popular. It is a far softer feed option, can have any number of essential oils added for assumed health benefits. Definitely more costly, far less mass/$.
We also address concerns about bee mouth structures and their use with solid feeds.
Images from several sources are used to illustrate that concern:

-Understanding Bee Anatomy, a full color guide. Ian Stell. The Catford Press. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK for the advanced beekeeper.

Great explanation Jake. Thanks for providing. I will refer people to this video when I get asked the question if solid feeding during the winter has any potential negative effects.
