Dualsense EDGE Thumb Stick Module Disassembly - Will it Stick Drift?

- In this video I take apart the Dualsense EDGE thumbstick modules to see if the analog stick are upgraded at all - or are the the same as a standard Dualsense controller? Will stick drift be a continuous problem? Let's find out!

To me it's worth it. Even if I just want to repair it myself, by far makes it easy. Not needing to disassemble the entire controller to replace a stick module is a win for me. That and the fact that it has two back paddles.
Agreed, I dont gotta desolder the cables Associated with the vibration. I can just disolder the stick module..
@@jiovanirivera852 don't even have to do that. Module plugs into an hdmi. Similar port. The whole module pops out. No screws required. One screw on the bottom of the module itself and you're inside.

Still a rip off, You can buy four Normal Duelsence controller for price of 1 of those . so you have 3 spare. Sony and their Built In Obsolescence scam, Of course they don't want to make them more durable.
@hannaht2068 For sure, I aint buying it unless I can find a broken one to fix for cheap, but stick drift wasn't an issue before ps4 era.
Thanks this actually helps a lot I was just going to just replace the actual sticks with metal ones and just trying to figure out if they were easy to open up I didn't know they were that easy thanks for all the help
Thanks for your video. Based on your video, I manage to clean my edge controller for the drift
How did you clean it exactly my edge controller got stuck drift and there are no stick modules in stock anywhere 🤦🏽♂️
@@ceazz9933take it apart and if you have pets like I do there could be fur or dust build up on the box just blow it off with a can of air but at a distance
@@ceazz9933 Call best buy, I called them today and ordered three even though they're out of stock on the website. Delivery date is next Wednesday
Nice, now I can by the normale replacement, not the whole module, is gonna save so much money 💰 ✌🏼
What type of connector is used? I can see that it fits and plugs into the controller. I wonder whether some kind of cable that can connect it to USB-A/B/or C
👍 Good video man!
Gulikit said they plan on making things with Hall Sensors. So when those are available for purchase, this controller will be a must have!
My thought exactly. With the swappable modules, someone is definitely going to make Hall modules
Could you guys explain to me what Gulikit is and what is hall sensors? Also what does it do to the dual sense edge controller?
Yo ya se los puse magneticos
I’ve already my hall effect edge modules.
Where did you find them? I've been looking online with no luck.@@Darviielol
If an old pair has stick drift and u buy a new pair and put it on will no longer have stick drift? If it fixes stick drift I would probably buy it
is there a new tech module or any option for sony to use? i think sony think smart here. even they use same module. its easy to repair.
Thanks. But what I want to know is if I can use the bottom cap that pops on the analog post on a ds4 controller? I want to convert my dualshock 4 to dome / convex. thanks.
Can you tell me which screwdriver did you use ? I used the tiniest one i have and it still didn’t get to remove the screw
Hi! thx for video. Please let me know what audio chip version in it? Is it better than dualsense? In DS there is a realtek alc5524 chip.(logo is a crab)
I would love to see you switch out these potentiometeres for hall effect sticks and using the controller
would it be eaiser to solder this new stick controller or the original ps5 controller.. is it possible to solder and replace the stick with this controller.. because playstation is not manufacturing these modules at all...
My module is glued shut... any idea how to get past the glue without damaging module in the process? Was yours not orignally glued shut? Thank you
use hotgun
Since they are the same, can Hall effect sticks design for the regular dualsense be installed on the DS edge module?
Most likely
But you'll have to do your own testing maybe with third party software on a laptop
@@issyaboi9000 I have 2 edge thumbstick modules that I am going to use to try this myself, for $12 bucks im getting a pair of hall effect replacement modules that are an exact fit for PS5. Used this video to disassemble to make sure and another video (ua-cam.com/video/6JX_kdyDnlM/v-deo.htmlsi=FjiNFoV1OC4-7cP8) to verify that those ginfull replacement modules should work.
Hi. What screwdriver did you use ?
I bought a new module an still have stick drift .so fn annoying help?!?
How tough would it be to DYI a Hall-effect piece in there?
you guys know when i open like this. Can i put the ps5 reflex thumbsticks on it?
My left stick feels sticky and i have no clue why. I opened it up but it all looks normal to me. Do you have any solution for that?
Are u guys still making games too?
Is me oh the new command bottom are like loose? Same with the X triangle square and O ?
The function keys do feel loose! Which makes it feel a little less premium
Will be amazing if some brand make Hall effect stick modules for this dual sense edge controllers. I’ll buy that day.
Hall effect analogs have their own problems. I'd still choose potentiometer with our current technology.
Gulikit have said they are making these
@@issyaboi9000 yeah, like year ago. You’ll never know if it’s possible. Maybe Sony don’t want you to do that.
@@MatiasBit no but there are alot of third party products for the ps5 so probably will happen
I'm surprised that Chinese sellers from Aliexpress don't offer ready-made modules or just electronics boards for Edge.
Can you do a Tutorial how to change dual sens and edge joystick (inside part )
I have stick drift in both sticks and I can't find the module to replace them anywhere I purchased this controller so I could just replace the stick but now it's left me with a £200 pound door stop because I can't find a replacement module
You are right. I just noticed drifting today and cant find anywhere the replacement module. But i have warranty still annoying.
some company needs to bring out hallsticks modules for the dualsense edge
My question is if someone makes a better version of those modules if they'll actually work on the controller or if Sony made it so only theirs work.
Nah a company is already doing it. They're hall module joysticks. I forget the company name but they are known as the best of the best.
What screw driver is that?
What screwdriver is that?
My ps5 left stick lost its spring when i packed wrong and shipped it.
Seems like they used off the shelf parts, nothing a little soldering can't fix
So right now it out of stock but for me when I move hmm like up the joystick stays up and it doesn’t go to the middle anyone have that problem if so how to fix it
dude i think everyones bricked at the same time
Try adjusting the dead zone in the system options. You can even have a different dead zone for every profile.
need extra tension modules...would be easy for them to do
So the PS5 elite has the same stick configuration as every other PS machine that came before it? A total swindle for a $200 controller.
Its the same on Microsofts side. You pay for the extra features and exchangeable sticks.
I have this controller and by far the best ever pro controller I have had scuff battle beaver aim controller and this thing blows them away!!!!!
How did he open it so easily?! I’m having a hard time opening it.
He’s opened it before. Once you’ve done it once , it’s easier in future
where can i buy the analog module?
I got my controller launch day and it already got unplayable stick drift. I am calling Sony to see if they warranty it by sending me a module or will make me jump through hoops. Either way I love the device but hate that it broke so quickly. I did find out a third party company is making custom stick modules with hall sensors. That's gonna be sick.
What company's making with halos definitely want to buy when available
Mine had drift right out of the box
So csnt you replace that potencia tome tee or whatever it’s called quite easily as plopped to the original duel sense ?
Yes they drift
Xbox & PS still afraid using Magnetic Hall jostick.. huhh
Xbox makes Fisher-Price toys that feel cheap and are 3 console generations behind, sells them as full-price standard controllers and gets killed by PlayStation all day every day for it. PlayStation always wins because, among other things, they always have the best controllers. Microsoft needs to reinvest some of their trillions into feeding their starving Xbox brand with some good proper controllers, and make Hall sticks *STANDARD* on top of that if they want to win the console wars. Put Hall sticks in every. Single. Xbox controller and there will _be_ #NoPS6.
Thanks for the video.
Trash joysticks. I'm tired desoldering and soldiering these. I was hoping they would be electromagnetic.
You're supposed to chuck 'em and install Hall effect modules with GameCube-style sticks, coming soon.
"Should be able to just lift that"?? What? After removing of the screw I feel like braking my fingers to lift that up
I opened another one which was a lot harder to pry apart than the one in the video , but it did separate with a bit of force!
@@ZRZ this shit ain't coming apart before my finger nails come apart
@@TheMainelsonMajority of them are glued. Heat up the bottom and then it'll be easy to remove.
We need to re-engineer this module with hall sensor ... It is the same potensio analog will cost for 20$??? come on sony
Thanks, now ill raplace the potentiometer myself, im not giving 20 dollar to sony for that
Wow they really cheaped out on this pro controller. This shit ain't worth 200 bucks. I'll just stick with my ps4 controller and its 20 dollar paddle attachment from Sony. They've worked fine for almost 2 years now.
£200 + £20 a pop, nice
You just saved me $200. I’m better off purchasing two dualsense controllers for $150 and still have $50 extra to buy a game. $200 for this bs nah I’ll definitely pass😎
Definitely not practical to buy i just bought this one because i dont want to own multiple controllers and buying module sticks save me from buying another controller but besides that plus the paddles and different profile regular dualsense is the better purchase
It's definitely practical. These sticks are prone to failure. The DualSense is a repairability nightmare compared to the Dualshock 4, and this just makes it all so much cheaper and easier.
Sure you can buy 2 stick modules for 40 bucks versus 70 on another Dualsense, but then if you have even basic knowledge in soldering and have the equipment to, those individual modules means buying a pack of 6 replacements POT's from ALPS directly for around 25 bucks TOTAL, and desoldering the bad POT's and putting in new ones make these modules absolutely perfect on the wallet compared to it's predecessor, and THAT is the main reason it's a 200 dollar controller. It pays for itself and then some soon enough.
Hall sensors in the triggers (Sony kept that quiet), and Gulikit are developing Hall sensor sticks for the Edge. Also, you can easily switch the existing sticks between each other is drift becomes an issue. I think the high price will work out less in the medium to long term.
It works out fine. If theres just a hair or something in there it takes 3 seconds to check. Rather than taking apart the whole controller.
Your crazy! Buy it it’s worth it 🔥🔥🔥.
WHAT ? 😭😭😭😭
Less than 24 hours of owning the edge, I experienced stick drift bad. Game Stop will not take the remote back.
Can you buy new sticks only? Surely that's a thing
@@vxhwpwpekfjfldod3761 I’m sure you could, but not even owning it for 24 hours. The company should of let me trade it for another one because most places let you bring something back within 15 days. I filed a claim and a report.
@@american_chevy616 idk how you couldn't return it at GameStop. I do that shit all the time. I use to just buy a new elite 2 and swap the old one into the box then return it (even though they have serial numbers). I don't condone that but just giving testament to how easy it is to return items there.
yes it will lmao i got stick drift my first game testing it
:(
@@ZRZ That's how i feel :( I have yet to see anyone else with this problem as I searched for hours and nobody else has mentioned this ... Why meeee
@@foreverwanted321 I would definitely contact Sony, it totally should not have stick drift right out of the box!
@@ZRZ hey bro, can i ask what screw driver is used in the video please
Thumb stick will have natural drift as they are electrical mechanical component and cannot resist wear and tear. The more the electrical component rubs on the mechanical components the more wear is increased. This is not a design flaw but just a naturally occurring issue with the components used. A full digital option would be great but the industry has not yet moved away from electrical mechanical means of XYZ data capture.
The option for replaceable sticks is the only logical way to combat this issue. Now why only available across pro lvl controls when this should be industry standard everywhere sounds like a money grab to me. But that’s business….
Don’t buy this controller it’s been over a year since I been looking for stick module replacements and it’s been out of stock, and the ones you can find are overprice by resellers 60-80 dollars for just for one stick module Sony sucks, surprise there isn’t a law suit, biggest scam
Don't buy this controller.....you can't buy replacement parts they don't even sell the parts on Playstation site.
I know right. It's over for me. I can't play any games because my joystick makes everything unplayable. I don't have money for a new controller and I'm not paying $70 from jerks who bought in bulk and are reselling. Sony ruining everything.
They do and they have been restocking the modules quite frequently recently. I was able to pick up 2 off their website around 2-3 weeks ago while randomly checking it. (Edit) For msrp too. $19.99USD
@ReallyShii I checked the website and it said currently unavailable or out of stock. Just knew I couldn't find one.
@@kair0315 check every few days or so. i randomly checked one day and they were in, that's how i got mine. Try mercari, you'll overpay but not by too much, i see them on there for just an extra 10 dollars. as for my first comment, where tf is it? i cant see it for some reason, why would it be removed??
1:22 Room for possible trim pots planted in the face next to 🕳️ FN 🕳️ button 🔘 🤫🫢🤭.
25 bucks for that ? Not even different tensions ? Bruh.
The v3 ps5 controller actually got a better deadzone Stickdrift than the other but they sell them only withe colors and for 10-20 bucks more.
Mine does Not lift Up after removing the screw? Seems Glued. Also the Controller feels super cheap !!!!! 240 Euros what a Joke. Big buyer warning
Did you get it open mine seems glued ?
@@bencarlisle7878 yes. Needs alot of Power to lift. But i will Return it. The original ps5 Controller is way better If paddels arent needed.
@@plasmaman5219 Use a flat tool (ideally about 10mm wide) and prise/twist up carefully from the recessed part opposite end to the Fn button. I found that gave me enough purchase. Mine definitely doesn't just pop off like in the video.
