I was 9 years old and had never watched cycling in my life. I had to watch this race because I spent the Sunday at my grandparents' house and my grandfather was a fan of cycling. The Museeuw-Tchmil duel made me fall in love with this race and this sport, and I have been ever since.
A great memory, thank you for posting. My wife & I travelled with "Sports Tours" to this race. The weather was foul, we had snow before the first cobbles. It was our first trip across the Channel and, in all, I think we spent about 42 hours in the bus. Oh yes, and the toilet blocked just after the start in Compiegne and we eventually got decanted to another bus. I did, however, win the sweepstake to predict the winner, and I went back with more Francs than we had come with !!!
Quite a cross section of generations here...from Duclos-Lasalle (here in the twilight of his career) who (early in his career) rode with Moser, Raas, Pollentier and other stars of the '70's and early '80's; to Steffan Weseman (here early in his career)who (later on) rode with Boonen, Cancellera and other stars of the 2000's!
I remember his commentary, all down to the winter training apparently for the increase in strength in depth of the peloton. He was a guest at our cycling club dinner in early 2012 and even then he was a bit in denial about Lance. He got grilled about it by some of our members
For those of us who came of age in the '80's and 90's, watching the limited U.S. broadcasts of the few races we could see, this synth-pop was an integral, ever-present part of racing. It never really bothered me...beggars can't be choosers! We were happy just to be able to watch the race!

It was an experimental, full suspension frame. Museeuw later said something to the effect of "the experimental frame didn't hurt my chances, but it didn't really help either".

Andrei Tchmil is the legend! Greets from Moldova :)
Thanks for the spoiler :(
@@ralphnimbin8954 That's no spoiler: In the end, Tchmil is Belgian
@@ralphnimbin8954 anyone know why he flipped someone off during the race?
Andrei Tchmil Born in Russia actually.
Adopted various nationalities Russian, Moldovan, Ukrainian and finally Belgian.

Rock Shox spring fork
the 1990s.....when bicycles looked like bicycles.....Old School here....cycling since 1957.....
Some 90's Paris-Roubaix bikes had full suspension. Yuck.
Amazing race .... the music drives me crazy 😜
Il terzo posto più spettacolare della storia del ciclismo! Franco, una forza unica!
George Hancapie so close on numerous occasions, yet so far away.
Couldn't get to the end of this...who won it...Crockett or Tubbs?
Phil "see no doping, hear no doping, speak no doping" Liggett. A man made for this era.

Yep,Marc
Merveilleuse époque où les champions laissaient leur compteur au vestiaire et avaient encore besoin de s'étirer pendant la course...
Name songs?
Andrei Tchmil won using a Brazilian bike - Caloi.
Lance Armstrong’s podcast brought me here.
Proper doping techniques.
That music is so annoying....does not fit images of a race at all.

You must not have been around during the 90s.

Are you being facetious? Surely no one recorded that sort of power data, even in the 90s. That’s impossible numbers

What a brilliant race, shame about the shite backing music 🎶 🙉
Why does Museeuw ride a ladybike?
