I find it so amusing that this game was constantly lambasted by her twitch viewers ("FF8 is entirely skippable"), but Frankie ended up enjoying the story and each character so very much.
Whenever things come out, some of them are just judged forever and people accept it. I initially thought the twist near the end of disc 2 was quite lame, but it definitely grows on you the more you play it. It's actually a very mature story.

FF8 is pretty great, people just tend to not get Squall (possibly partly due to the translation/localisation) and/or the junction system lol. I think the craziest thing about this game is it has one of the worst and laziest twists I’ve ever seen (the orphanage that everyone conveniently forgot) and simultaneously one of the most subtle twists in that it wasn’t until I played FF8 as an adult that it finally clicked who Squall’s parents are, and it’s literally never explicitly stated.
This was my first FF game growing up and is still my favorite. I remember my uncle had a collection of PS1 games that took up an entire bookshelf and I noticed one that was much bulkier than the rest the size of a Bible and I knew just from the cover that this game would blew my tiny little mind away. I pop it in the console and watch the intro cutscene and I'm now completely invested. Then my limited knowledge of what I was doing took hold and I wound up getting mauled by a T-Rex and I'm like "Why the heck would this be the first enemy I fight?!". So my uncle saw this and after laughing his ass off watching me getting eaten by a T-Rex started playing for me so I just spent my entire visit with him watching him play through the game while my parents basically forgot I was there because I never went downstairs the whole weekend. This fond memory sticks out to me because it was one of the few memories I still have of my uncle and who isn't with us anymore. That's why this game wins out against the rest for me because that's where my mind goes playing through it. It's like my uncle is watching me play and ours roles reversed.
That's crazy. My introduction to FF is very similar. Basically I was I think 5 years old and I had a playstation in my room. My uncle would come in and play FF7 and I'd watch, later 8 after he finished. He left for college the next year and I started playing them. Once the world opened up, I typically just got lost since I didn't know how to read yet and thus didn't know where to go but was able to fumble my way around the first chunks of each game. I remember for FF8 I was able to make it all the way to disk 3 before going to Esthar. When you have to visit Rinoa in the nurse's office, that part I could never stumble upon. Everything else I was able to figure out through trial and error of just going everywhere.
yeah FF8 is also my first FF, and it's sure has a place in my heart and mind. I was maybe 14 or 15 when first time playin it in my friend's house. After that (maybe 1 year after), I got my own PS1 and play it until the end.

FF8 was a childhood favourite of mine. Check out Primalliquid's guide on getting ridiculously overpowered, its possible to be 1-shotting anything by the time you leave Balamb Island. Also 38:13 Squall's response "I'm not your mom" was *HILARIOUS* 🤣
Watching this reminded me of my first time playing this and not being prepared emotionally for basically any of what was happening , your like "my face is a red mess" and pretty sure everyone was the same first time round I still get like that to some degree and I know what's coming, anyways really enjoyed this and I usually hate people playing my favourite games because they "over-react" to every little thing and you seem very genuine ... considered deleting this half way through typing but obvs didnt
Thanks for sharing your experience. The voices you did for each character were very good. And your reactions to the themes of love in the game are very relatable. I love when games from 1999 still hold up to this day, and this game is a personal fave. It makes me a happy xennial seeing people of all ages enjoying FF8.

I had to go and watch your reaction to the ending since it's so sweet. I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much! it was one of the games that defined my childhood
Something I only recently learned about ff8 is that the movie that Laguna made is the same movie Seifer saw as a child and inspired his weapon and fighting style

Just so you know. You picked the wrong instruments. You get additional dialogue if you pick the 'Irish jig' instruments, in which Rinoa doesnt run away and they have a more intimate conversation.
We had "Ellone" spelled "Ellionne" in our German version. I guess, that made things easier...... Also, Zell was "Xell" and Seifer was "Cifer".... Edit: Also.... Omg, I'm SO fucking stupid.... (40:18) I NEVER realized that "Esthar" could be a nod to "A star"...... 😅🤭🙈🤦♂️🙈
You left Eyes On Me in the video. I tried mentioning it in the last video, it's heavily copyrighted so a good chance the video will get claimed. I hope it doesn't, but just in case, the ending scene of the game is also heavily copyrighted.
i had the same reaction when eyes on me come out. The lyric really potray laguna and julia moment, and also rinoa and squall relationship. Keep coming back to the scene over and over...i pray that some one willing to remake the scene at least if not the remake ver of the game.
21:00 Sounds like you were caught doing this part alot 😂 Also yes!! I have been saying Rinoa got grip strength. A war going on with a experimental flying ship with nothing but dirt she is hanging on and countless parts before he accidentally saves her. Unless he planned getting flung out the door lol. Thank you for the video, I truly enjoy the trip to nostalgia and it makes me want to play the game again
24:19 you made me laugh so hard, I just love how crazy you can be in your streams x'D
I played this games since 99. At the end of the video, it really hits me a lot. Thank you.
This was my first FF experience; It’s also my favorite so far. It was truly a magical experience.
Great to watch! Thanks for putting in the effort to edit it. It really paid off! I don't see enough love for ff8 in playthroughs and seeing you get into it was a lot of fun.
I loved everything about this. Your reactions, your excitement, your PERFECT voice for Selphie haha
Made me cry dammit when you cried!
Toad rendition of simple and clean had to slaughter your vocal cords
The war sequences in this game are really well done.
I came for the FF8 but stayed for Toad singing KH...
Wow I remember playing this game when I was 10 years, about 25 years ago.. So much memories, still one of my favs! Fisherman Horizon's song always in my head.
I had to go and watch your reaction to the ending since it's so sweet. I'm so glad you enjoyed it so much! it was one of the games that defined my childhood
This reminded me why I loved Rinoa.
I didn't know I needed toad signing simple and clean in my life today but here we are
Something I only recently learned about ff8 is that the movie that Laguna made is the same movie Seifer saw as a child and inspired his weapon and fighting style
You always make me laugh and cry at the same time!
I really liked ff8 until this song started playing then i fell in love with it.
My No1 game of all time.
Your Squall voice sounds an awful lot like Lightning in FFXIII
I've been waiting for more! Funny and entertaining as the last one. I was dying at my keyboard when you sang in Toad's voice. lmao!
"I'm so powerful in the cranium." is my new favorite line.xD
0:23 Wasn't expecting to see a clip of my local news when I clicked this video. Especially not one from 30 years ago. Even more remarkable it appears to be a clip of when our baseball team was actually good. Quite a rare piece of footage.
I NEVER realized that "Esthar" could be a nod to "A star"...... 😅🤭🙈🤦♂️🙈
I watched your FFX playthrough and I just fell in love with your reaction lol
You left Eyes On Me in the video. I tried mentioning it in the last video, it's heavily copyrighted so a good chance the video will get claimed. I hope it doesn't, but just in case, the ending scene of the game is also heavily copyrighted.
Hearing her do toads voice had me dying of laughter
I can't wait for the next part
This one was again super good
Thanks for the upload, Frankie 🌹
Great work on the editing!
I miss when Final Fantasy games gave us such sweet love stories from the protagonists
I've always loved the fact that Julia's song she partly singes to Laguna is fully played when Squall and Rinoa is in Ragnarok.
OMG lol, your Toad voice. Hilarious. As someone new to seeing your videos bahahaha!
Amazing game and an amazing gameplay trully a rollercoaster, the best part the Toad singing, way to go!!!!!
i had the same reaction when eyes on me come out. The lyric really potray laguna and julia moment, and also rinoa and squall relationship. Keep coming back to the scene over and over...i pray that some one willing to remake the scene at least if not the remake ver of the game.
Voice acting skills are off the charts..... 😅🤭🤩
21:00 Sounds like you were caught doing this part alot 😂
Also yes!! I have been saying Rinoa got grip strength. A war going on with a experimental flying ship with nothing but dirt she is hanging on and countless parts before he accidentally saves her. Unless he planned getting flung out the door lol. This game is grear
Holy cow you’re really good at voices. Perfect Selphie at 3:47
I can't imagine a better Rinoa voice than the one you gave her, holy jesus.
I need the final part!!
42:15 It's been over two decades and I still think about the tenderness in this hug.
damn, because Frankie was enjoying the game so much and laughing, I didn't expect other emotions as well 😂
Zell will forever and always be known as White Tyson
very funny and nice video! Cannot wait for part 3. 🤩👍
24:19 - Let's start a Metal Band
Also: Toad sings Eyes On Me when? 😂
Frankie, you are the best reaction channel for FF!! you rock my socks off!
Hey Frankie, I'm really treasuring these FF compilation videos you're putting out. Love all your genuine reactions but that Toad's cover of Simple and Clean tho... too gooooooooooooooddddddddddd
This was such a hilarious watch, especially after having watched it live too. Sooo good.
Very much looking forward to this since Twitch is blocked at my office but get your rest. Enjoy your break.
