Here's some tips from a Costa Rican resident. Ventilation is crucial, if you're unable to have ongoing ventilation when you are away, then sprinkle coffee, baking soda and dryer sheets everywhere. Also, get some moisture absorbsant at the ferreteria. Perhaps a tarp suspended above your bus to keep it cooler and dryer. Wood is not your friend in Costa Rica. When you rebuild your cabinets use aluminum to make the frame and only use local hardwoods such as teak, it is not penetratable by the termites. Vent your cupboard doors and consider purchasing a dehumidifier. Hope this helps!
Vinyl flooring on top of aluminum sub floor?
From another Costa Rican resident I TOTALLY agree with everything eyemallrt said 👍🏻. Additionally, mold is soooo dangerous for human health. Please be mindful as you do Reno’s/and building here Louis. Unless you use the proper materials you will be continuously chasing your tail, as it were, to keep up with mold and insects such as termites. It gets very expensive doing so - so you’re better off spending the money up front to use the proper materials right from the beginning. Just my experience after 7 years living here. Best of luck 🙏🏻
He had setup a dehumidifier that he had to modify so that it would drain. They don't have grid power last I checked so it was only powered by solar.
I think you will still have problems with mold. because you have to remove all wood affected from mold otherwise it spreads
your putting wet damp wood back no make sure dry dry like super dry n paint all with kilz or some other product to prevent mold
Hey Louie, that mold will be bad for the little ones lungs if you live in there long term. Best to find other accommodations if you plan on living in there long term
you know this is from 2 years ago right
This is current @@LifeOfMikey1
That mould is so coming back 😅
I think so too! 😅
Louis, unless you find the scorce of your water leak you will for ever have the same problem. These buses are notorious for leaking under the windows, you have an interior shower, plus water drain at the wash sink, and fresh water pipes going to the Kitchen and shower area. It will only take one drip every minute to destroy all this work in a matter of months. ALL water leaking goes down, yours appear to be coming from the side of your bus. Rip off the panels on the side and check for water ingress underneath the windows. Good luck finding the leak.
Vecino de Heredia.
That's what I thought too!
Louie let me share with you as long as you live in Costa Rica even if you don't have any water involved you will always have mold it's the humidity good luck
haha your nuts bro! this was great watched the whole thing !! was engaging!
These are some of my favourite videos on the channel where you're just working super hard on your own, problem solving with some looming deadline. Very gripping
Your courage to keep going with this project and not quit when you saw the extent of the damp is really impressive! I'm only half way through and now the new plywood is getting wet outside! Agony! Hope it works out...
This video is definitely why you guys should consider building two brick rooms on the land, instead of planning to sleep in the bus. The weather conditions in Costa Rica dont seem to sit well with keep the place safe while you guys are away.
It is not very much more expensive to build simple brick rooms and it will save you a lot of headache in the long run.
Putting a wet board in your bus. Classic 😅
Took a while to realise this was a pre neo video 😂
and the question is Why are we seeing this?
they are in Costa Rica again now. I assume Louis is renovating the bus again so there could be a part 2?
They are all in Costa Rica together staying in rental accommodation, but Louis is fixing up the bus so that it’s ready for them to stay in next time they go there.
I guess this is a bit of background preceding the coming videos.
The dog!!!
You’re a absolute legend Louie all the work you do for your family is 💯👌🏽
i love the way you just take on these crazy challenges and are not even phased 🤣
Louis, Your positivity, optimism & embracement of life’s terms is such an inspiration! Thanks for being amazing you!
Loved watching this process, was good to see the bus again!
You really needed.to paint it all with waterproofing the same stuff as the have in bathroom, bit late now but it will 100 percent damp.and.mould. good to know next time lol
Hopefully that bottom floor was completely dry before you laid the plywood down other wise mould will also grow between them in such a humid place
Was so caught off guard by cali 😂
I thought she stayed in the UK!
I’m glad it wasn’t just me!! I was so confused!!
Me too!
Me too. But I'm not really sure of the timeline here, since this is Louis' channel and the last Costa Rica update we saw was on their family vlog?
Exactly! That’s why came to the comments- find out what I missed!
Louis, You did the right thing! Extract as much of the mold as you can, it is like a cancer. Keep your RH low in the bus and you will be fine. Optimal Relative Humidity between 45-65 to prevent mold. The most important thing is to keep it dry.. as long as water is not introduced mold won't be bad.
Also you are the hardest working dude.. I can't believe you kept going for days on this project with no sleep. That is commitment to your family and care for your amazing Raya
A taste of the e-vehicle cross US trip. Classic problem-solving. Classic Louis
Gotta love a good shirtless Louis project. They are always a good time. A bit hectic but, definitely fun.
To be honest, tiles made to really block water is a very bad idea in a vehicle, since there will be vibrations and some twisting.
Good to see the bus back 😍
Good attitude towards the task
There is a reason that wood is not really used as a buildingmaterial in costa rica or other super humid counties
Cordless tools have revolutionized ADHD rabbit hole side missions and I’m here for it!
Totally me! Let’s tidy this up - nek minute, sawing the floor out! Love ya Louis!
You are amazing man. I am truly inspired to be better man because of you.
Oh my 😢 Wondering if you felt ill in the time after dealing with this mold?? Mold is terribly toxic to our bodies. And can have long term effects. Please be safe. Don’t let your precious wife and baby in there!
Louis does A LOT of rushed projects, hoping for the best (but never actually getting the best) results. The channel is largely a record of his projects, constant maintenance, repairs and refixes. (Sprinkled with a lot of charitable friends and strangers along the way.) I wonder how things would go if the time & money investment were on par with the effort.
Ventilation m8. Don't completely seal of everything. Put in some holes for ventilation or it'll stay wet and draw mold every time.
Well done!
I’m no expert, but it seems like the majority of the bus needs to be redone. Should you just scrap it altogether and put the money towards your new house instead?
Thanks Traveller 😅 love u all 🎉❤
I never knew Louis got the moves :) @11:32
Fun 4 Louis @ his best, 2 the wire
Thats not just any mold, that is black mold and highly toxic.
You mentioned that you used a dehumidifier for a bit, but for that kinda damp you need a decent dehumidifier running for a few weeks probably, not a few hours
I really think there is still major mold/moisture issues. Looks like it needed a full tear out. I’m so sorry to say. Please be safe
Well done Louis! You're an amazing human! X
You need to run a/c at least 20 min a day..more during rainy season in CR or mold. Good luck!!
Did you fix the original leak?
Good luck! Central America eats everything, even concrete. You may have some luck with AguaLock.
I wouldn’t bring that precious baby back in there.
That mold is still in there.
Mold is everywhere in the world. It ruins things and you don’t want it in abundance but it’s actually very rare for it to cause serious health problems. Our bodies can filter it out, and actually much better than common toxins like detergent and candle fragrances, which everyone seems to find perfectly acceptable.
I'm confused, is this entire vlog a recent video or from 2022? and if it's all from 2022, why was it uploaded now? As a pre-cursor to an upcoming updated video about the condition of the bus?
Capillary action at its finest. Marine grade lumber?
I don’t know how you do it Louis 😂
I hope you are able to get some time to relax and dream about the waterproof house
You should have bought a tarp at hardware store to cover the wood.
Marine Grade Varnish
Does Kiltz help by painting over or do you have to remove all effected, even have it tested?
Hard to tell if it's the dangerous kind.
your a better handyman than me haha, i would be so lost fixing up your camper lol.
In the words of Take That; "How Deep is Your Mould".
well did you fix the leak? probably rainwater coming in from somewhere
❤
😱😱 wahooo I cannot believe all the hard work you were able to do before Raya’s arrival ! 😜🥳
Amazing work. How is Cali there though?😂
I was thinking that as I thought they had left her at home this trip. Very confused.
"I don't want a big wedding."
"We're having a 'wedding festival'."
The bug build please
I’m so traumatized by mold after years of living in damp kiwi flats. Watching this video just stressed me out 😂! So glad I don’t have to deal with that anymore.
is it worth doing ? it's just gonna get moldy again. any humid area is no good area to store anything, especially a bus like this. it was in perfect state before :((((
🎉
There's a reason contractors refer to it as fall-a-particle board
When you are on tropical country, mold is all over the place, you need to treat the wood before installing, and keep up with gutters, roof and all that kind of stuff. By the way that is a old video?? or is a new situation???
This reminds me of the "I bet he's checking out other girls while I'm away" .. meanwhile he's just ..you know ..completely renovating your home 😅
there no waterproof chip board but there is water resistant
so you did all this right before leaving the bus again for another year and a half
do you have friendto help n please wear face mask as to not breath in the mold n get sick
You should wear a mask around mold.
I'm now very concerned because my mum has a worktop with similar looking black area😮
Louie, next time please don't forget to put on a mask. Thinking about your health.
🫁
The anxiety rn is real. You're wild for undertaking that project.
I'm telling you u have mold still in there it will continue to grow n cause issues
I’m confused I thought Cali was left in England? Or was this filmed last year?
I’m so confused with timeline? How is Cali there etc? Is this an older video that you just dropped?
This is an old video?
Are those boards treated ??? Water resistant?? We treated our boards
Mood sucks, try looking for ideas to keep it dry maybe a tarp over the bus
I thought the dog was left behind in the UK. Sooo confused
I wanna say first but I think it’s a bit cheesy, hope your doing well m8. Keep living life the way we all dream of!
You should definitely epoxy everything where mold could go so easily cleaned and doesn’t happen again
I thought Cali stayed in UK is this an old video?
I think this was filmed last year as Cali is in UK, they have neighbours now and not one mention of Neo!!
I thought the same thing! then I restarted and saw the video starts in June, so it was a different trip.
Video at beginning states June 2022, so yes, this is an older clip which Louis must not have aired previously. It's also on his Fun for Louis Channel, rather than their Family channel. ❤
This was even before people stealing lots of his gear in 2023 (when they were in UK)
tbh, I would think 2/3/4 times to have a home in a very far country where people EASILY steal stuff when you're not around.
The start of the video says June 2022

Oh man, where did all your lovely hair go???? I followed your India trip and loved your rasta vibes ,..I guess travelling causes baldness
Comment
If y'all remember Louis from food for Louis hit the like 🤘🤣🤘
👇🏼
I feel like this is pre-Neo footage?
@BathtubLovingGuythanks I clearly can’t read!
Why are you NOT wearing a mask?
OMG I haven’t watched you in YEARS. My heart is exploding seeing you’re still with Rya and now a father. 🥹
I am confused as to when this was filmed. You left Cali in England, and yet there she is with you in Costa Rica in this video. And you mention Raya being gone, but you don't mention Neo. Is this old footage? Maybe I will find out in the next video. Either way, I love how you always get yourself into deep problems and then tackle them with patience and fortitude.
It says 2022 at the beginning of the video.
@@gbpg2016Thanks! I guess I missed that😊
This is a total rebuild. Take everything out. Clean with chlorox and hire someone frond the area to help you who knows about building in that climate. While ventilation is very important the rains are epic so you need to know what you’re doing.
Hey where a mask bro..
Have I missed something wasn’t cali staying with people in Brighton?
DONT BE CHEAP DUDE LOL!!! Hire someone! It will cost you nothing plus you help the locals.
Wish I was the 2Millionth viewer 🎉😅
I would not want my baby in a moldy bus.
Are you surprised? Really? You've left it for about a year? In hot moist climate. That would happen in Florida if you left a home without air conditioning on.
Did he figure out where the water was coming from? Also, is this a current situation or are we watching a re-hash to keep the channel stats moving? Anyway...
