FLY FISHING NEW MEXICO | DIY BOX CANYON | THE MOST BEAUTIFUL FISH | TROUT IN A DESERT

- This is an adventure with a whole lot of type two fun folks..
Box Canyons leave any angler with a lot of unknowns and the potential for trouble. You have to mind your step at every turn and make sure you are making calculated risks. Foot paths come at a premium and icy boulders would love to trip you up. Before you jump head first into a box you need to pack for every contingency. When the walls are so steep and the seasons are changing you might not even be graced with the sunlight. But with all that stacked up against you, the chance at some amazing fish is just as high. On this day, the juice was in fact worth the squeeze.

Small stream, plunge pools? Man I’m in heaven. Thanks for sharing.
Oh man Dale.. It was a dream!
As usual, another great video. I really love the storytelling and the framing of everything going on around you while you fish. Most fishing videos seem to only focus on that fish which makes up about 30% of why most of us go fishing. It's the environment and the solitude and sounds that make up the other 70% and you do a great job presenting the whole. Stay safe out there and tight lines!!
Thank you so much Rob!! That is what I strive for! Those supporting elements are so important to encapsulate a day! Will do and same to you!
That big Brown was stellar!!!! Entertaining as always.
Watching your videos is almost as fun as actually going fishing.
Holy cow Dominick thank you so much!! I am so glad you like them!
Love that spot….if you’re ever back in the area I’ll show you some other access points where you can drop in. Great video thanks for all the hard work. Chris
Man this awesome video brings back some good memories of that box. Keep up the good work!👌
Thank you so much! I think this might be one of my new favorite spots!
Good job. Lotta work goes into these videos. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much! It can be a bit of work.. but it is so funny how much I enjoy making em.. doesn't feel much like work haha
Nice to see aguaje doing well as usual in the fall ;) water temps are consistent 48 degrees
Shoot Adam.. she is doing mighty fine! I was super surprised to see how well it fished! Gotta love a little gamble!
looks pretty fun. I prefer the sun to be blocked during the winter months.
Shoot I would agree.. but my fingers needed a little warmth from the sun haha
Mike, great video. I live in northern NM. It took me a couple of days, but I figured out the box location. Oh to be in shape and have young legs. You go!
Thank you so much Larry! It’s such an amazing spot!
@@FLYALLSZN is this the brazos box?
mike makes me so excited for all my planned trips! love the content bro! hope to fish with you one day!
Thank you so much Hunter!!
Love me some canyon fishing
Its the best!
@@FLYALLSZN great to see a fly fishing youtuber fishing allot of the same water that I have fished. If you ever get a chance I would love to show you some canyon fishing here in Arizona. Hells gate, chevlon, east and west clear creeks, salt river canyon…
@@TroutBumTaylor Oh man I have heard some wild things about Chevlon!
Thanks Mike. Made to order! perfect!!
Thank you so much Gary!
this makes me want to plan pack and adventure in opposition
to fishing the same river basically every time.
Exploring is always fun! Just be safe when you do it!
Stoke factor HIGH! Awesome video and nice fish!
Thank you so much!
Awesome video! I’d like to get into fly fishing streams like this, could you make a video breaking down all the equipment/gear that you bring on an adventure like this?
Sure thing! Check this vid out ua-cam.com/video/2r731XmDHC4/v-deo.html
Bro love the videos heading out west next July to fish all them areas your in. Ya ever want a fishing friend I’m in. Great video
Thank you so much Jesse!!
this is great my friend! It's crazy how low it is! anyways great video!
Awesome job Mike, so well organized although it looked like you were walking through some productive holes and pocket water. Man if your ever back in Missouri and want to wet a line please reach out. Jeff
Thank you so much Jeff! I really appreciate it!
Maybe some day I will find a spot like that. Sometime you should go to the South Platte here in Colorado. It’s my home water and there are a lot of solid fish in their.
I have heard some wild stuff about the SP! I might need to make my way out there soon!
@@FLYALLSZN You should. It is not what you are used to tho. Your car is behind you with a million people around you but you can find active fish year round.
Great videos! I've been binge watching them all. You have a knack for conveying the thrill of all your adventures! I stumbled on your channel while looking for Driftless area videos, I used to live and fish in Wisconsin. But I have really spent most of my time fly fishing northern New Mexico (though I currently reside in California), so it has been super cool to see a bunch of videos from both of my old stomping grounds on your channel.
And the canyon you are in for this video is one of my favorites!...My Google icon is a lone pine tree in the very canyon you are fishing. - it stands out just a you start to descend into the the canyon from the trail you took (btw, there are other access points to this canyon from the north side that are great too) Just super cool to relive so many adventures through your enthusiastic videos...I look forward to enjoying more adventures!
Holy cow thank you so much!! It sounds like we have fished a lot of similar places in the US! But I will most definitely look for some other access points!
Perfect Tenkara conditions. I know traditional western fly guys roll their eyes over that, but less gear and more manageable gear to pack in these smaller more remote streams and twice the fun factor.
Hey Mike. Just subscribed and this is my 2nd vid. Strong work! Have you fished any other NM water? Seems like you gravitate towards the less traveled paths and fisheries. I used to love going to the more secluded places. More work but so worth it! Anyways, keep up the good work and maybe I'll see ya on the river some day.
Yes I spent about a year exploring all that new mexico had to offer!
Im still watching and i know exactly where you were down to each rapid and pool
It’s a sweet spot!
Love your videos. Come fish MT!
That would be amazing! I really need to!
was that close to San Dia mountain, i go there to hike, love your videos
I am not sure! It very well could be apart of the spine! Thank you so much!
Wow definitely going to put this on my bucket list!! Great video!! So the section you fished, was it hike out the same way you hiked in? Is it set up to hike in at one spot and hike out at another ( as far as trails go ) ?
Hey man, what material and knot or ring do you use for your NZ indicator? Love from UT
Where is the box? Looks like a awesome place.
Shoot me DM on IG and I can give you the details!
I would like to know as well, I live in NM and not sure where you were at. The Brazos box is the bomb and looks similar but I don’t think it’s the same area. Come fish with me out here on the San Juan for monster trout amigo.
New to fly fishing. I would also like yo know I live in NM
@@FLYALLSZNwhat if we don’t use instagram?
where is Soccoro did you go?
Tell us how your liking those ant rods.
I talk about em in most of the outros! I absolutely love them! They have been so good for me!
@@FLYALLSZN have you ever thought about showing all of your rod and reel setups off. That’s be a good video
where is this at?
Loved the video, but can someone please tell this old man what the hell does "Let's Go" mean. Seems like thats all you hear the younger generation say. Thanks.
Thank you so much Larry!
