Ben is quite literally the only reason I watched the element 14 channel. Glad he's got his own channel
Our lives are all a little richer being able to spend this time with Ben.
If we ask really, really nice Ben might drag out and show the very first "portable Playstation "he made so very, very long ago,,,
I simply cannot think of another person I would rather get drunk with while tearing apart electronics together than Ben Heck 🤪
Amen!
Or Big Clive
Ghandi? Hitler?
And big clive, with some carbonated Whisky 😅
Ok, ok, Big Clive (with soda stream processed alcoholic experiments) would be a very, VERY close second 😂
"Is Ben gonna read to us?" - "Yes, shut up!"
Hahaha!
I love more casual videos like this that essentially equate to hanging out with Ben, listening to stories in his workshop.
Every time you hit the "scavenge" button or whatever in like Fallout, and get resources out of a laser rifle or something, what you're not seeing is hours and hours of this.
Bethesda, get on that.
We really need electronic junk yards like there are for cars. 1). It would take less space than a car junkyard. B). It would help with the lack of Right to Repair. Last). It would save working parts and give people the sense save the parts that still work.
That would be my house. Help!
Beyond the ignition system you really do not need any electronics to make a car work. You can just toss any of the fuel related crap out and put a carburetor on any car. Probably be better off for it too. I've got to have electronic ignition though. Because points suck.
@@1pcfred he didn't mean for car electronics. Also, you're not correct concerning anything at all modern re cars. But a regular junk yard is a car electronics junk yard.
There are such places! They are disappearing though. Electronics Exchange, RIP.
Maybe if the business model was to get the "junk" electronics free somehow, maybe, it could work. But a car junkyard goes in a big greasy field somewhere with either a trailer or shack, or maybe a cinderblock building at most.
Electronics, not so much. Much higher operations costs.
Ben, you’re the hero of our time, we need. Please keep getting drunk while applying your highly specialized skills. Sold. I was already a fan. Now I’m a SuperFan.
Thank you for spend time with us Ben
You are awesome
Love your show and humor, keep up the great work. Great entertainment and nostalgia you talk about.
Thanks for the good content! Tearing apart stuff was the prime moments in my childhood... Later on I figured out how to fix what I took apart.
This is what Ive been waiting for all my life but didnt realize it.
"Drunk tear downs...."
Ok I'm sold, now watching the whole 53:52!
I actually could only make it through 52:17 before I clicked off. I don't know how people soldiered thought the whole thing.
Back in college, I designed a really nice motor control and lithium-ion battery management board for a robotic research platform. I was wasted for the entire process, yet the whole system really turned out fantastic. That's the moment I decided I was a true engineer; realizing that even when I am drifting within the margins of consciousness, I still exhibit some kickass electronics design skills.
I have spent thousands dumbing myself down to this level and im still way above 99 percemt of the population lol im guessing your in the same club
Hahaha! Your best TearDown yet … and totally a joy to follow along
I just wasted 54 minutes of my life and enjoyed every second of it. I love the fact that you are just a big kid at heart who doesn't care about views. You amuse yourself, and if that happens to entertain anyone else, well that just a bonus.
It was a pleasure meeting you at MRRF 2021 as well.
Thanks for watching! And yes, it's great to just put "whatever" on UA-cam and not give a damn!
"I am now legally drunk? I don't really feel that drunk. Of course, I live in Wisconsin." -- Ben Heck (best quote ever)
Today I learned that Ben has a perfect Chocolate Rain voice.
I've been following your videos since the can crusher episode on RevisionTV. Thanks for all the entertainment.
New benheck videos highlight of my week, drunk ones even better. I'm drinking along with you!
reminds me of a Saturday night at the electronics bench, drinking a few beers, playing some tunes, messing around with electronics. Love it.
This is the best 53 minutes and 52 seconds of a drunk man with a calculator I’ve ever seen.
"Just squish that cat!"
I always was so impressed with the intro of another world. On the amiga. Just like a real movie
this is the most legendary video that has ever been created
I have so much nostalgia for devices like this. I had Sharp Wizard organizers all through college and beyond, and was a user of several of the Palm organizers (Palm Pilot, Palm III, Tungsten T2, etc.)
"I'm gloom about death; so I'm always kinda wondering where are all the tools?" An engineer's epitaph! Love it 🪦
This needs to be a weekly series from now on
So this amazon thing can listen to you to . How nice
First time! Iron and breadboards!! You are truely innovator !
That's an epic lunch box, I would have loved that!
Was there a polarization filter built into the screen cover?
Is it easier to solder if you sing? i gotta try that!
Ben, please twitch stream. I think you'd enjoy it! I know most of us on youtube would love to hang out on twitch with you!
thanks for the video. That is a well used solder mat
More drunken tear downs please 🍻
I'm high and this is relaxing as fuck. its like watching bob ross but in reverse and with drinking and swearing
Soon as you said Lake Louie, I thought "SCOTCH ALE!"
I quite like what you did with that old chip there at the end. What do you say to building a YM2151 and YM3012 on a breadboard? I've tried to make it work but I don't seem to understand. You don't have to go all Ben Eater on it but I think it would be neat to see it driven with hardware only. Actually I hope to use it in a project to make some beeps and boops. I don't even know what the difference is between analog voltage and dc voltage so my attempt failed
I have that exact Garmin in my car! Still use it all the time
A small part of me died when he autopsied the victim while it was still conscious. Back in 2008, the Garmin Nuvi was a nice GPS and would still work great today. Was stranded in my car so I walked 7 hours the rest of the way. Jammed out to music I had on it with the 3.5mm jack and even told me stats of my average speed walking and how long it took to get there. Took images with my SLR on my way. Try that will a smartphone and see if it's not dead by the time you get there. It's a stretch to call it outdated technology. They were so expensive back in the day and someone could still use it who don't use smartphones. They spy on you constantly anyways but what do I know.
Well that's the 1st time I've ever seen anyone making soldered connections on a breadboard!
I too, met Ernie Hudson at an event and can concur that he is a most awesome dude.
Littrly just came back from the bar, ruined just ruined. And Ben is here to lullaby me to sleep thanks ben
Uncle Ben's bedtime repair storytime :D
Good thing you made it
I think Ben likes to watch car rebuild videos, always fun to watch.
I live in Milwaukee. I got recently a av modded atari 2600 worked fine for a few days now the color is terrible. It's a lite sixxxer. I also have a 7800 that the start button on the system does not work. Is there anyway I could send them to you to look at and possibly fix for me. I don't like playing on the retron 77. Would rather play my games via hardware
ok...what part of solderless breadboard dont you understand???
Your cartoon Venkman is scary good
Spot on to the voice of Lorenzo Music ,,first Venkman voice actor in the Real Ghostbusters ,,,Lorenzo was imitating Bill Murray's groundskeeper voice from CADDYSHACK ,,,,Murray didn't realize this, whined like a bitch and got Lorenzo FIRED,, can't stand B.M.
Checking that UPC on the lunchbox... and they got lazy. Every single one of that company's lunchboxes has that UPC.
I remember my older brother messed around with that radio shack voice IP chip back in like.. 1984? He was pretty handy with electronics so he was able to not only figure out how to make it loop but split up the 20 seconds into individual 4 second banks and make one of those portable soundboards activated by buttons. It was sooo hi-tech back in the day, now everyone has voice recording in their pocket.
BATF has entered the chat... remember Ben, you lost all those guns you found in a boating accident.
Wish i could find a load of guns i had about 1000 worth of airguns all fully legal and they got confiscated from my friends house where i had em stored and never returned to me :( that was the death of my hobby as i can afford to replace em sadly its a joke one was even brand new in the box with a recipt and all the others were unmodified so they had no legal right to do what they did but what am i gona do call the police lol it was them that did it and if i could afford a legal team id be able to just replace em instead and not hav to worry about it so they know they can get away wiv doin whatevwr they want its a violation really is daylight robbery i hate all police cos of this and think they shouldall die slow and painfully
Always been a fan of scotch ales, they don't get enough love. Black IPAs are also severely underrated.
I'm glad Bud made an appearance. I play 'squish that cat!' with my cats now.
I can imagine young Ben watching this video in horror and interest as old Ben puts together his electronics kit.
Gets all the way to the end and he rickrolls us with his eeprom!
More drunk tear downs!
I think I bought that same chip on one of my unicycle rides to radio shack back in the 80s 😆 I remember being big into samplers and had to have the Casio SK-1 when it came out. But ya. I was still blowing up LEDs and diodes cuz I had no clue so mine probly stayed in the package as well…
My grandma had a plush toy that had one of these chips inside! It repeated everything you said (recording was activated by voice level). Needless to say, it was absolutely terrifying.
I bought that same chip from radio shack! I also never got around to making the sampler I wanted to make.
How do I contact you about getting a PS4 laptop
Hey I got that same voice ic in the same packaging I got as a kid. I should make it work to impress past kid me
"the flesh or whatever..." - Ben Heck
Was 8 when my Dad took me to see Temple of Doom this in the Theater - great memories
I kinda liked it. To be continued I hope
Ben, we had the same lunch box. I remember it had a thermos inside with a flip out part to drink from. TWINSIES!
2:45 That belongs in a museum!
Do you always solder components to your solderless breadboards, or is this an "only when drunk" thing?
Yeah I do it more than you'd think :0
Ben is my favorite" Wizard of electronic wonderment", and every Wizard and witch had a companion animal that helped magnify their talents for Ben that familiar is Budd the Cat 😸
I bought the same voice chip from Radio Shack in the 90's! Never did anything with mine either lmao
My Spectre Trigger: The secret crater base having a rotating radar. It's in a bowl, it's not seeing shit!
I just checked out Brave Little Toaster, and I realize you are the villain here! Muahaha! At least with your gps comments.
Haven't watched this yet but, already I find myself thinking how much I'd enjoy to have a drunken sit down and rambling conversation with you. So what competition do I need to sign up for and win or, how much do I need to pay to make that a reality?
more videos like this please
I'm surprised that battery was still working on the Garmin. Battery failure was what forced me to stop using my Garmin and move into the smartphone era of turn-by-turn directions. But I still have it. Now that I know how it comes apart... 🤔😁👍
I would give just about anything to hang out, drink, and (allegedly) get baked with Ben Heck and reverse engineer some old electronics. Every time I visit Madison I hold out hope that I'll bump into him!
Fortune and glory… and scotch ale, kid.
the last part was awesone wiring that up and making it work 💪
I have an old ISD1000A from Radio Shack with bent up pins, and maybe, if that capacitor array didnt leak too much over the past 30+ years, a recording of a preteen AppliedCryogenics.
Oh this will be fun!
I think you just made a Yak Bak. Well done!
I am illiterate and I appreciate you reading the data sheet. Because of these unprecedented times, I have been unable to employ my customary reader.
What happened to the element14 show?
I will remember Cryptology = Indiana Jones and your James Bond Craig's list.
Thanks for being you.
I have that same mat. I used to worry about keeping my mat clean. About 0:23 in... I quit worrying about that.
Love the Edison message.
anyone notice the finger prints on the metal can of the gps? i'm assuming it was from the factory..
Now we can track down who made it!
"We did find all the guns" LOL Good to know!
There's a funny story behind that, I'll try and remember to tell it next drunk video. I don't know who got the 7mm Mauser.
:( wish it was me lol sounds brilliant id like to hear this please
Ah man...if you would record your own laugh/commentary track while watching your favorite movies...that would be great. Then we could listen to that through UA-cam while watching the movie on disc...and we could all share the experience of movies with Ben!! Glorious!!!
"not worth fixing the $2 piece of junk, I already drank more than $2 worth of beer"
Hell yeah I was getting drunk while watching this video
Wait, you were sober in the other ones?
I don't recall ever seeing any of that style of lunch boxes up here in Ontario.
i cant believe i did watch it all
Have you ever thought on doing those types of videos live, with chat interaction? It would be amazing.
We have so many good Wisconsin beers here in Wisconsin cheers 👍
This video absolutley delivered! Indy Quotes, Check! Random singing, check! Bud, check. Awesome! :D
Several beers increases impersonations by Ben by at least 200 percent
0:10 beer asmr channel
7:30 damn TIL
11:26 lol
23:11 RTG maybe like the satellites/rovers
27:00 lol this is where the fun begins

42:20 lol
46:35 heh
49:45 hehe kitty lovin
52:02 uh oh
52:12 that's cool
53:15 lmfao
that was good, cool video I always learn something here and there
Ben, you mentioned not liking "Skyfall" or "Spectre" (can't blame you on the latter) but what is your favorite Bond movie? I love the series in general, regardless of the multiple misfires. Curious what you deem as the banner film of the franchise.
Sky fall is certainly better than Spectre! As for fav, maybe The Spy Who Loved Me?
Garmin pi?
19:06 Impossible Mission!
Regarding how the DeLorean could be powered: Radiothermal generators with Peltier-Seebeck elements have a horrible efficiency, but require no moving parts. All you have to guarantee is to cool one side and heat the other. The Peltier elements could be directly coupled to the stainless steel hull of the car. Plutonium could be used to heat the inside, while all that ice forms on the outside, resulting in a nice temperature difference for the Peltier elements, generating power. Of course you wouldnt be able to draw 1.21 GW from that in real life, but maybe Doc has something figured out that we don't yet know.
