  • @John_Ridley

They're still making the HP12C. It's used by financial professionals and a lot of finance textbooks use it, so people just keep using it. The new version is emulated in an ARM chip and I think it uses a couple of CR2032s. (Ooops watched a bit farther and you found this out for yourself).
They still use the original code and just emulate the old chips so that there is no possibility of a difference in outcome between the old and the new calculators.

The construction of the Xbox series heatsink/shielding reminds me of the heatsink for the HP 9825... It's pretty impressively built. Honestly... if you ever get a chance to get your hands on an HP 9825, _do so!_ It's such a cool old machine. 16 bit CPU running 10 MHz... in 1976! They put it in something they _called_ a calculator, but the HP 9825 was more akin to a PC. HP 9845 used it as well.

You might say "But the iPod Touch costs twice as much as the TI-83, so it makes sense that they cheaped out on the display connection!", but I want to remind you that the CPU in the iPod Touch is 4.5 years old, while the CPU in the TI-83 is 45 years old, which makes up for the price difference.
