Hi, Thank you for your interest. I sometimes make cakes. I did it in a form to save time but It's possible to do on a cake. I will show making knifeflowers on a real cake someday.

They are called cake forms to practice on. This is same technique as doing oil paintings with a pallet knife. I paint wall murals and have done all sorts of canvas painting and also cake decorating when I worked in a bakery 15 years ago. I have not done the knife flowers on cakes but I can see the concept is similar. I would play around with the consistency and practice on a flat plate on top of a lazy Susan (cake wheel)

Thank you so much for the tutorial. I have been practicing this pallet knife technique. But I am facing some errors during practicing. First problem is, when I scooped / got icing on the knife (the way u show) then the icing kind of curve over the knife, it doesn’t get petal shape 😥. How can I fix this?
The other problem is, my icing get soft quickly. what should i do? Please reply if u get a chance. Thank u so much❤️❤️❤️

Hi, I guess you would use buttercream. It will change so fast soft and it's hard to get the shape. I usually work with beanpaste or Chocolate cream. It's easy to make shape. If you use buttercream, you should keep the temperature of working room around 20~22 degree and you should keep the buttercream in refrigerator while working.

it most definitely is a pallet knife :) they come in all sorts of funky shapes and sizes - youll want to use a brand new one - but we use the ones meant for oil painting all the time at my bakery
