Thank you for the most helpful video I've found on this topic of RATGDO with a gate opener. I have a Liftmaster sliding gate and it has the Expansion Board. Using a multimeter I can confirm your suggested settings with a correction in the video at time code 1:19 that shows Relay1 and Relay 2 settings. The relay settings are correct (R1: Off-Off-On) (R2: Off-On-Off). However with RATGDO in MQTT Dry Contact mode you will want to use NO & COM on R1 for Open state (continuity on NO & COM when gate is open, no continuity on NO & COM otherwise) and NC & COM for Closed state (continuity at NC & COM when gate is closed, no continuity at NC & COM otherwise). The + and - SBC terminals do work as a momentary trigger as expected and work to open, stop, close with each subsequent trigger.
I’m glad it was helpful! There’s an in depth write up on the HA forums but some people haven’t had as much luck as I have had with this method. I’d say mine works 95% of the time but there’s definitely been some dead times. The expansion board isn’t worth it for me right now but you should be aware of it !
Thank you for this video!! Do you know if there is a way to make the RATGDO put the gate in "party mode"? I have an LA500 with the expansion board, and you have to go out to the gate keypad to put it in party mode (hard open, bypassing any auto-close settings).
I'll be honest this is the first I am hearing of it! I wouldn't think so as the ratgdo is really just "pushing" a button. My first thought would be to turn off any auto close settings and use a HomeAssistant automation to mimic the same result but that isn't really what you are asking.
If you don't have an SBC or a different kind of board / actuator that you can't replicate what I did. The addon board will enable the RATGDO to work if you can't do the colored wires like I had.
@@SterlingRose Check out this thread! I tried to link to the exact comment that should have the expansion board wiring! : community.home-assistant.io/t/control-liftmaster-la400-gate-opener-via-ha/631055/56?u=chmynard

Thanks for checking that on the expansion board!
This was incredibly helpful, thank you thank you thank you!

That’s what I was thinking too. I think I’m going to go this route. Thank you for your help!!
What if I don’t have a garage?
This one isn't for a garage. It's for an outdoor gate! If you don't have one- you wouldn't be interested in getting it into Home Assistant either!
Is there any benefit to getting the add-on board?
If you don't have an SBC or a different kind of board / actuator that you can't replicate what I did. The addon board will enable the RATGDO to work if you can't do the colored wires like I had.
