    Thanks for video 1 & 2 for the LA400. Using your info I inspected every part of our gate when it quit working. Ended up being 2 things- batteries were long overdue to be changed out. But the major problem was the contacts with the battery harnesses to the board. Loose, and the clips were broken. I’ve done a temp fix, but harnesses willing need to be changed out.
    Thanks again!

    I also have an LA 400 and I just replaced the batteries for the third time since I’ve had it. But this time I continue to have a problem with this gate opener and I was hoping you might be able to put your finger on what the problem is. Today, when I went out to open the gate, I heard three beeps, and the gate would not move. I hit the reset button and still nothing. It was only when I pulled out the 20 amp fuse and put it back in that the gate would operate. But even then, when I pressed it a second time, I heard the three beeps. I put a multimeter on the transformer and it goes up to 24 and then bounces around but 24 seems to be the full trickle charge.

    Loved the video learn some ,my gate led is blinking 5 times ,book says rpm on first video you put arm together. And said that you would check the rpm wire , I probably missed it how do you individually test the rpm, then do you have to resetlimits I thank you for knowledge

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  4 роки тому

      The board is basically looking for an RPM signal. There is no real spec as to what speed it's supposed to be, but the signal generated should be an AC current. It takes three wire to do that. Power, ground, and signal return. The voltage returned to the board is how it determines the RPM. If the motor is weak, it will set that code.

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  4 роки тому +1

      You should have at least 23.5 volts with it disconnected. If you only have 10 volts, I suspect one or both of your batteries are toast. Disconnect your battery terminal leads from the board and test the batteries by themselves. Fully charged, they should be around 12.5 or more each.

    I have a LA500 gate operator and it comes up with code 93. I've checked obstructions or if the gate is biding, which it is not. I even tried moving the gate arm without it connected to the gate and it only moves for a second or two before flagging code 93 again. The gears and rod gear look like they are in good condition and move with ease. I'm leaning towards the RPM sensor on the motor itself. What kind of voltage should I be seeing from the RPM sensor when the gate is moving? Would it be different than the LA400 or should it be the same (2.43V)? Also, what ranges of Voltages are acceptable for the rpm sensor? Would Chamberlain happen to have a voltage chart I could reference?

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  4 місяці тому

      Chamberlin is extremely reluctant to give any information to any DIYer and you're not likely to change that. In the 400 system, the harness with the micro switches go bad causing the board to get false readings. The motor with the rpm sensor goes bad too. The voltage seems like it should be around 2.5 volts

  • @donjuhasz
    @donjuhasz Рік тому

    It appears that the replacement motor for the LA400 with rpm sensor is the exact same 24 VDC motor for the LA500. Can you validate that this is true? Liftmaster wants to sell the entire arm/actuator and does not list the motor separately but the two motors appear identical. Is there a difference or can the LA400 actuator motor work on the LA500 actuator?

    Thanks for the video...very informative. Question for you...I have the same gate, but Dual
    operators. Our gate 2 stopped working during a recent cold snap. If gates are
    closed, both would open. But when open and close signal given...Gate 1 would
    start to close, but Gate 2 doesn't move. So Gate 1 then stops and reverses. I
    get the 5 blink RPM reversal code.
    I replaced batteries, and also had an extra arm so I replaced the Gate 2
    Arm (thinking it could be an internal issue). No luck. Same situation is

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  2 роки тому

      @@IrocinZ thanks so much for the response. I did try to relearn, but the Gate 2 again would not close. I did not think of switching the gates connectors. Will try.

    • @IrocinZ
      @IrocinZ  3 роки тому

      I don't believe so. The way I understand it, is its a 24volt system and the transformer or solar, whichever you have, is only there to charge and maintain the batteries. Plus as with any computer system, it requires a clean stable voltage to operate correctly. Fluctuations or voltage spikes are bad news for electronic components not designed to absorb that energy.

      Start with checking the batteries since the system runs on 24vdc. It has to have charged batteries to operate. Then check to see if your transformer is working. If both of those are good, check your two 20amp fuses. If all that is good, it's a possibility the board is bad

      Hello Irocin Z, will the arm operate at all if voltage is below 24V? Mine has about 23.6V. I just replaced the gear assuming that was my issue. After replacing the gear, as I try to set my limits, as I'm depressing the set limit button, the motor would run a little but then stop, then I'd have to let my finger off the set limit button and depress the button again to get it to move, repeat, repeat. The diagnostic light blinks 5 (RPM reversal). Could a low supply of voltage at 23.6 cause a RPM reversal error reading?
