This reveal was just as good as Vader telling Luke he is his father. We go through the entire game hearing about the Sith called Revan, only to find out we were looking at him the whole time!
I know right, with *The Empire Strikes Back* I remembered watching it and it felt like it came out of left-field. It wasn't only until the prequels were established that it made logical sense. Revan's revelation though, didn't feel so far-fetched. It tied up all my questions well. Like why am I so good at the Force!? I've only been training for two weeks.
This is much better than that, everything hints at this but you don't notice it cause you don't consider it. Barely anything points in the direction of Vader being Luke's father.

i remember when playing through this scene, i was completely frozen. and i couldn't stop laughing for minutes because i was fooled on such a great level. awesome plot twist.
Best plot twist ever. When I first played the game as male LS, I read on the internet that Bastila would end up with Revan and I was like "WTF? Revan is alive and will end up with the girl my character flirts?". I had not even considered the possibility that your character is Revan.
I agree Bioware is the crowned King of revolutionary RPG games first KOTOR to lay the foundation on what games like Mass Effect, Fable, Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls would refine into a never ending legacy of the "Your decisions and actions effect the world around you" genre of RPG gaming. EA on the other hand are great devs on sports related games like Need For Speed and the Sports simulators that are NBA Live, Madden NFL, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, FIFA and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater but give them development rights to a Star Wars game development (and this is directed at what I've heard about the Battlefront 1 Remake) they make it into a clusterfuck of reputation ending proportions.
One time, searched Raven's face on google and the first image that appeared was Carth. Not knowing that google was showing me something else, i spent the game thinking Carth was Raven. I also didn't see it coming.
Malak:"Bastilla never told you what happened to Revan." Revan:"Ha! I wish! All she ever talks about is how she killed Revan with her awesome battle meditation! Battle meditation this! Battle meditation that! Seriously, the words "battle" and "meditation" will haunt my nightmares.Suffice to say, she told me more than enough." Malak:"Uuum, No... YOU are Revan."
This entire scene was so shocking, creepy and many more emotions I can't even describe. The fear when Malak appeared, the shock during the revelation, the denial, the futile battle against a vastly superior and terrifying opponent, the sacrifice of Bastila. I had so much respect for Malak and I feared the rematch
+Sigurd Torvaldsson That was the easiest battle in the game for me with the final battle being only slightly more difficult because of all the extra shit I had to do. Mind you I was on the hardest difficulty O_o.
+EntityLord No. The easiest fight in the game is the Bastila fight on the star forge. I can't figure out why is she so damn easy to beat. Last time, I tried (on hard difficulty mind you) as a jedi consular to win the fight just with auto attacks. It did the trick. Kath hounds on Dantoine are harder XD
I had no fear of a facing Malak after this because I knew I was stronger than him. Malak shot himself in the foot by revealing this. What did Malak have to gain by revealing this? It was just hubris.
If you played this game originally this twist...was mind blowing. There was no youtube around then...lol. This is my 2nd favorite rpg after final fantasy 6 and the only game I played immediately after again because I had to...I was *good" the first time (frankly i made decisions as i felt them...didn't go all super white knight lol), but i went to super evil the 2nd time. This game is reason enough alone to have owned an original xbox, period.
+David Just recommended this game to a friend, telling his that it's way better than any of those crappy Star Wars movies. Looking forward to hear about his reaction to this plot twist! :D
+David For me it wasn't at all... sadly enough, the first planet I visited after Dantoine was Kashyyk. The damned ancient robot ruined the mindblow part for me. Still... awesome game
+David For me it wasn't at all... sadly enough, the first planet I visited after Dantoine was Kashyyk. The damned ancient robot ruined the mindblow part for me. Still... awesome game
Sure as hell caught me by surprise. I kept being told: Revan was evil and he tried to destroy the Republic. Then all of a sudden: guess what? *YOU ARE REVAN!*
Not really, the best plot twist was "Would you Kindly" reveal from Bioshock. That was totally unexpected. This was not that unexpected. Still cool but not the best.
+awesomekid120 For me, I was stunned by the idea that could be it when it started slo-moing the fight between Revan and Bastila. But my jaw really dropped when Revan took of the mask. When I beat the game the first time, I immediately started another game. Then it seemed suddenly obvious. Everything was screaming that you were Revan. Everything. Bastila's Speeches, the council (notably Vrook's) manners of adressing you, the visions, the bond, the rakatan robot "Preliminary match found", the dark kernel mentionned by Uthar, ... I am usually very proficient at deciphering plots before the second half of any game/movie. Twice was I caught completely off guard. Only twice. In a lifetime. "I am your father". "I am Darth Revan".
+Tywin Lannister To be fair "I am your father" came out of pretty much nowhere. Just cuts Lukes hand off, Luke says how Vader killed his father "No Luke, I am your father!" and plot twist done. Revans I felt was MUCH more superior and clever because there are lots of hints throughout the game, but it's not made too blatant. And once the reveal happens it keeps you as the player motivated as you realise literally the entire course of the galaxy were the actions of Revan, of you. Plus having those hints adds amazing replay value to the game as once you know the twist and replay the game, those hints are much more noticeable and glaring to you now and literally change how you see parts of the game as if they are new once again. "I am your father" I felt never had that effect that I looked for the hints when re-watching Ep 5. But that's just how I feel on that matter :).
guess so. Thats one thing TFA didn't giv. That defining moment of WTF? The revelation that Ren is han son had me on my seats but when I find they named him ben i was like "Is that the best you could think of" And then Han diying and all I want is Ren to die, get broken, be torn apart, ripped limb from limb painfully I almost threw my soda at the screen
Batou3 Nothing in TFA shocked me or had me gripped tbh. The fact Ren was Leia and Hans son had no build up, and Han's death was painfully obvious it was going to happen from the moment before Han and Ren started talking. It was just so...flat in those parts. Weather you love or hate them, the Prequels were at least original, unlike TFA which was Ep4 all over again, with Rey being this boring Miss Perfect character that is amazing at everything she tries, from shooting Blasters to flying the Falcon to using a Lightsaber. I'd personally put Revenge of the Sith above TFA, that movie was such a dull let down :/
+EntityLord Kotor as a whole, Kotor I and II, is a fantastic story, but yeah I slightly like Kotor 2's story more. By a technical standpoint Kotor II's engine got the tweaks it needed to run better and have more neat features.
I totally agree. And if not a movie, then a Netflix series. Revan & his entire story needs to be made Star Wars Canon. Like yesterday. I mean, Jar Jar Binks is Canon & Revan is not. How is that even a thing?
+Karen Catizone I want a Netflix series about the old republic starting off with someone like Exar Kun being the main focus of season one, and then Revan season two or three, etc...
*When I first rushed through this game on my clunky HP laptop in 2009, I was surprised to learn that my main character was one of the greatest Jedi to ever walk the light AND the dark. From then on, I never saw the Star Wars franchise the same way again.* *KOTOR's plot twist and the plot twist from Deus Ex will always be stuck in my head.*
Before I got to this point in the game, I saw a video where someone was using a mod to wear Revan's robe and mask while fighting Malak at the end. Malak was also addressing the player character as "Revan". I thought, 'This is a cool mod'. Little did I know that the outfit was the only thing modded.
It's true, I went dark side my playthrough and straight up donned all the Revan gear and was running around using force lightning through the end of the game. Felt like a total badass.
This blew my mind when i played this for the first time. I literally couldnt sleep for a whole night. I just wanted to continue the story asap. So many memories ... I really hope they remaster this some day in the unreal engine 4.
I played this game when it was first out on xbox and many years later I saw it on Steam. I decided to buy it and replay it because I had totally forgotten the story. When this was revealed it was a DOUBLE mind fuck.
Sadly the Apeiron “mod” was shut down because the people in some bullshit official position needed something to do and wanted to spoil our hopes and dreams.
Because EA bought Bioware and doesn't want to make Kotor.and make lootboxes and SJW trash.Because Disney destroyed entire Expanded Universe and make istead SJW worst movie in Star Wars- Last Jedi.Because George Lucas is not in charge. Is this explanation enough.
@@Gloss613 Bro, this. People don't realize this game kinda sucks a little in terms of the actual dialogue choices you have and some things like that. But the overall story is good though of course.
@@Sadeness99 It pales in comparison to dragon age origins but it’s still got a decent story to it and characters we give a shit about. If Rose dies I just don’t care, if Mission dies then I’m going on a massacre until the men, women and children responsible have been slaughtered. Also probably a lot of people that weren’t responsible as well since I’m a Sith at heart.
Just played this game for the first time last year and never saw this coming. I knew Revan wasn't actually dead. His big fan following and the fact we never actually saw his death in-game made it clear, but I never expected _we_ were Revan! Absolutely mind blowing.
@@marc7248 An artist called Nikiichi Tobita. Not really familiar with them, but they've done a bunch of great Street Fighter stuff. I think their art is actually some you can unlock in SF6?
I think KOTOR2 has a deeper story even incomplete. Kotor has a basic bioware story (big threat, ancient artifact/civlization, and you play the choosen one).
This was handled beautifully. Malak must have been the one who delivered it, thus doubling the amount of facepawns and awkwardness. Also regardless of what type of person you were; for the player character it made the lines between friend and foe quite blury. Beautiful.
I still love how they did this reveal. Through the whole game the characters all make a big deal out of Revan and who he was and what he did. Then they keep saying "oh thank god he's gone now" and that Bastila killed him and is a big hero for it. So it's so easy to buy into it because it's a world event so the thought doesn't even cross the mind. But there's also hints about what's really going on when you talk with Bastila and the Jedi. Even with Carth on Taris when he talks about how the Force can wipe the mind though of course he didn't know who the player was at the time. Then Malak just drops it on you and you go "Oh crap..." As everything suddenly clicks into place. The reason why you're so powerful and why you have visions of Revan and can do all these things it's because you ARE him.
Malak: The council never told you what happened to Darth Revan Protagonist: They told me enough! they told me You betrayed him and Bastilla killed him! Malak: No YOU are Revan! Protagonist: No! that's not true! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE! Malak: search your memories. You KNOW it to be true Protagonist: NOOOOOOOOO
Back when Star Wars games made by dedicated fans who wanted to tell a story rather than rely on the success of the films (EA) This did something you'd NEVER see in another franchise. They sent you back 4000 years before the movies and brought a whole new era to the series. It teaches you lore that helps enrich the experience of the movies. This game and KOTOR made me appreciate the prequels more because they allow you to read into things more. I will never stop playing KOTOR. I wish we got KOTOR 3. Could you imagine a KOTOR game on current gen consoles or PC?!!
“Rather than rely on the success of the films” Nobody tell this guy what most of the old EU basically was. That for every KotOR or Thrawn Trilogy we’d also get half a dozen Jedi Prince series or actually unplayable Attack of the Clones video game. Still better than the colorless, factory-produced schlock Disney dolls out these days, of course, with all its bland competence and lesser versions of classic EU characters (looking at you, Rebels Thrawn). I’d take the uneven quality of Legends over the creatively bankrupt and consistently mediocre “canon” anyday…
The single best moment in gaming history for me. Never saw it coming. Once you know then you realise there were so many clues left how could you have not known?
Ah, what a funny scene. My character's name was Raven. So, when she said "I'm not Revan ! I'm Raven !" I though that it was cool the game searched for anagrams of the PC's name for the villain. But it was too obvious from the start. Then i made another character. Oh.
EnderHeart5911 Yeah, I was pretty bad at this game when I first got it. When I first played it, I couldn't figure out how to level up, so I couldn't get through a door on the Endar Spire. It took me several months (maybe even a year) before I tried again and successfully got off the damn thing.
At first I thought "No.. No this isn't True, it can't be, it just CAN'T be... This must be a vision of what I COULD be if I am not careful..." Then bastila confirmed it....
Greatest +9 minutes in gaming history if you ask me. I named my cat after him, bought the figure, collected the comics, basically anything with "Revan" attached to it (minus SWTOR which burned me up). Yeah, I'm an obsessed fan but one of the biggest fans.
ChrisPC11 mate you're literally like me, this plot twist changed my life, 10 years old I was when I played this, I'm 23 now and still haven't ever had a feeling like this game gave me, I username for everything for years was Revan.
Since the days of Morrowind i always spent *HOURS* creating my character , and those games were so well written that i was completely immersed in the story . I was like 16 when i got KOTOR , i loved the idea to do a RPG in the past of Star Wars ( i am a huge fan of Jedi Knight series as well ) but still i had no idea about the revelation until Revan , until MY precious character , put his mask down . . . and my jaw instantly dropped , my mind was blown , for several minutes i was trying to understand HOW I COULD MISSED THAT . Never before and never again such a plot twist in a videogame took me with such surprise . 10/10 , would wipe my memory again
as a SWTOR fan I say there is some true on that, bosses without compnaions are sometimes complicated, thoguh there is a couple that knock out yoru compnaion like malak does here
I got spoiled that you were Revan before I even bought this game so it wasn't a big deal to me at the time, but as I was playing the game I was disappointed but it at least kept me guessing what happened in how you ended up where you were. Even if I didn't know at the beginning, I am surprised people didn't notice all the foreshadowing that you were Revan. Sometimes though, it truly is better to be naïve and get shocked at something as marvelous as this.
My bad. I actually convinced myself that your character would become a new Revan and the darkside Revan was dead, but then the flashbacks ruined it for me. I kind of wish they never had the flashbacks cause it ruined the reveal for me.
I don't think it was that big of a surprise to begin with. I love the revelation, but as a twist it was pretty poorly handled. They make it pretty obvious. I figured it out on Dantooine. Here's what happened when I played. I got to Dantooine and the masters were talking about how Revan was no more and master Vrook said "What if we should train this one and the dark lord should return?" Me: "Master Vrook how in the fuck would training me cause a dead man to come back to life..........Oh...........Oooohhhhhh...........Oh fuck I'm Revan aren't I?" I mean how else are you supposed to take that line? The fact that Revan's body was never found also helped make it totally obvious. Again, It was still awesome that we were Revan but damn it was easy to figure out.
DevilHunter1994 You can understand it as a metaphor. They constantly said you were incredible strong in the force. They might mean that if you should fall you might strive to become the Dark Lord and then they would have new "Revan". So you can understand "Revan" as a metaphor for a strong Sith Lord.
The goosebumps you get, all of these dialogues were both in the main story AND from talking to companions more. Some were hidden, but some were so in passing that you're like, wait... Like Carth. The context of "The force can do terrible things to a mind" was not Revan, but it's amazing how it all fit. You could believe that Bastila and the other jedi were hinting it more than Carth, but it's still great how Carth still said the parallel.
I only played through KOTOR for the first time a couple of years ago and somehow avoided this spoiler, it was such an amazing experience. The way other crew members were talking in the interrogation scene on Malaks ship and other scenes I was thinking "Holy shit could I be Revan?" And the more I thought about it the more it made sense, then when Malak confirmed it I was shocked.
KotOR: Malak: Even the combined powers of the Jedi Council couldn't keep your true identity buried forever, could it? The Jedi Council never told you what happened to Darth Revan. Revan: They told me enough! They told me you killed him! Malak: No. YOU are Darth Revan. Revan: No, that's not true! That's impossible! Malak: Search your feelings, you know it to be true. Revan: NOOOOOOOOOOO! Empire: Vader: If only you knew the power of the Dark Side. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father. Luke: He told me enough! He told me you killed him! Vader: No. I am your father. Luke: No, that's not true! That's impossible! Vader: Search your feelings, you know it to be true. Luke: NOOOOOOOOO! Vader: Luke, you can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny. Join me, and together, we can rule the galaxy as father and son. George Lucas: It's like poetry, so that they rhyme.
I remember me and a friend were both first playing the game at the same time. I figured out the Twist, and told him “Dude, I think we’re actually Darth Revan” He totally brushed that off. Then, two weeks or so later…
As someone who got this twist spoiled before playing the game, I cannot imagine the emotional trip you folks must have had playing this and not knowing. And I wish I could have been one of you.
The first time I played this game was like 12+ years ago fully blind. Back when I don't really care about full completion and just play for the gameplay and story. This blew my mind on so many levels. One of the finest video game moments in my life
my favourite ever game, and a lot of that is because of this exact scene, I remember first playing it as a 10 year old kid and being shocked beyond belief when u find out, I don't think a twist in a story has ever hit me as hard as this did. KOTOR will forever remain the most enjoyable and satisfying game I ever played.
One of the craziest things about this reveal is that the truth was in front of you the entire time with all of the foreshadowing the game had. I love how they even pointed that out with the parts showing all of the things people have said to you throughout the game, about how the force can mess with peoples minds and how the jedi don't kill prisoners.
One of the greatest reveals in gaming history. I still remember the first time playing this on the light side, saying 'No, no, no, it's impossible!' but in my gut I knew it was true.
Malak: ...you underestimated me. I acted sooner than you expected... This confuses me since it is later revealed that Malak had already challenged Revan for the title of Dark Lord, Revan cut his lower face off which is why he uses that prosthetic jaw.
Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Revan understood that Malak was reckless and a gambler, he didn't expect Malak to be willing to gamble again so soon after the last time. He expected Malak to be "shier." In part because Revan assumed that Malak would be...more rational and saner. He underestimated both how the power of the Dark Side came from giving in to one's emotions and Malak's own tendency to go off.
Dear god this plot twist. I was already wavering between light and dark at the time of this revelation, and when I found out who I was and what was done to me that was it. Kill everything and strike down everyone who opposes you. Rule the fucking galaxy as the Dark Lord of the fucking Sith and watch the Jedi Temple burn. And then roast some marshmallows! :)
I love that after the cinematic that shows you're Revan, there is that short, quiet shot of the Leviathan flying through space, so you can collect your jaw from the ground.
I will never forget my jaw dropping to the floor during the reveal while sitting in my underwear playing this game on the 15 inch TV my parents let me keep in my room.
I remember playing this for the first time. I had no idea what was going to happen. I was sooooo excited when I became a jedi in the game, but then this!! Holly sh@$@!!!!! It blew my mind!!
When I played this game as a kid, this was a huge reveal - but after playing it again, it's not that big of a shocker. The clues are laid out all throughout the game and they are quite obvious.
Man, I love the start of this scene with Carth saying his old "Down you go!" Catchphrase, immediately getting force pushed down & Malak just going "LOL" Best
Malak: "You are weak." "You are not fit to rule the Sith!" "Once I defeat you in combat no one will question my claim to the Sith throne!" 5 seconds into the duel with Revan Malak: "Oh shit" *runs
One of the cooler underrated parts of this scene is Carth’s reaction to seeing Malek. Jedi are usually for monologuing and talking, but Carth? The moment he sees the man who took his family from him (or had some partial amount of responsibility in it) he goes for it.
Greatest twist in video game history. I can't described how thrilling it was when i first played through this game in 2003. This game was near perfection, it sticks with you throughout your life. Thanks Bioware!
Star Wars Empire Strikes Back: The Greatet plot twist in cinema history. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: The Greatest plot twist in gaming history.
To this day, I still wonder how I managed not to see that coming given all the clues pointed to this truth. Like really. Back when I finished the game, I started a new game right after, and just with the intro cutscenes and dialogues on Taris, just Taris, I was "THAT WAS SO OBVIOUS !". So obvious that it remained hidden until the big reveal. Very well done Bioware.
The new inhabitant of my old house still wonders why there's a hole on the floor. He refuses to believe it came from my jaw dropping on the floor when I played through this.
I wish I didn't wait so long before playing this. This would have been the greatest reveal of all time for me if I hadn't already known since picking the game up
When I played Kotor for the first time, I already knew about the twist that main character is Revan ( thx outsidexbox :P ). Yet revelation, and how masterfully all these subtle hints were woven into story still hit me like a ton of bricks.
Darth Malak: If you only knew the power of the dark side, Bastila Shan never told you what happened to Darth Revan? Revan: She told me enough! She told me you killed him! Darth Malak: No. YOU are Revan...
2:54 The first time I saw this cutscene while playing, there was a glitch. right when Revan pulled off his mask to reveal it was you the whole time, the character face glitched out. there was no face under the mask. literally nothing. Revan was just a hollow suit being held up by the air. so I didn't understand the twist at all. all because of a fucking glitch
This game was the first game I played on xbox. Bought the console and the game together, just kotor no others, the commercials alone sold me on this as my main game to start the xbox era. This game really set a standard that I don't think has been met. No game has been as clean and easy to basically play while holding a story line that blows your mind and keeps you in the mood to play throughout. Maybe why it was goty!

I was just referencing that for those who didn't know could simply look it up on the internet and get the answer. It was meant to be a joke.
Yea this revelation rates up with Vader's revelation to Luke. Probably with the same motivation, to cripple Revan's psyche/Luke's psyche .

+Mark Lee Have you played KOTOR 2?
Yes, I have played KOTOR II. It is a great game with a darker plot and mystery.
PeopleHateMyOpinions who is also a terrible Grammar Nazi So have I. I love them both.
I agree.
Then Malak came in with that goofy laugh.
Nothing prepares you for the brotherhood of shadow bosses
If you played this game originally this twist...was mind blowing. There was no youtube around then...lol. This is my 2nd favorite rpg after final fantasy 6 and the only game I played immediately after again because I had to...I was *good" the first time (frankly i made decisions as i felt them...didn't go all super white knight lol), but i went to super evil the 2nd time. This game is reason enough alone to have owned an original xbox, period.
+David Good thing it's on PC. Now we just have to wait for it to be updated just like KOTOR 2 was recently.
+David This is the only game I have completed like 7 times, the choices and consequences in this game is unlike any other.

Behold: The greatest plot twist in the history of fiction.
Sure as hell caught me by surprise. I kept being told: Revan was evil and he tried to destroy the Republic. Then all of a sudden: guess what? *YOU ARE REVAN!*
More surprising Star Wars plot twist than "I am your father" to me.
@@レッド-h1i When I found out I was Revan: WOW! I DIDN'T SEE THAT ONE COMING!
When I found out Vader was Anakin: Wow.
ok it is cool but not as cool as a single plant in Breaking Bad
Not really, the best plot twist was "Would you Kindly" reveal from Bioshock. That was totally unexpected.
This was not that unexpected. Still cool but not the best.
Man if I was Revan at this point I would of probably attacked both Malak and Bastilla.
bm6nation same
That’s a rational response.
Because fighting the most powerful Sith lord and the most powerful Jedi at the same time is probably a good idea.
@@nombre2781 force storm
Hell no, I would Never harm Bastila!
I didn't catch on until Revan started waving his lightsaber in slow mo and then I was like "oh shit"
+awesomekid120 waddaya mean?
I'd personally put Revenge of the Sith above TFA, that movie was such a dull let down :/
They should make this game into a movie. Best plot in all the star wars series!
+plasmathunderdx KOTOR II was better imo.
The issue was LucasArts rushed the shit out of Obsidian to finish on time so fans of the first installment got an incomplete, bug-ridden game.
This was on the level of “I am your father.” The fact that they planted seeds all throughout the game and you never had a clue, that was brilliant.
This was better than that.
*When I first rushed through this game on my clunky HP laptop in 2009, I was surprised to learn that my main character was one of the greatest Jedi to ever walk the light AND the dark. From then on, I never saw the Star Wars franchise the same way again.*
*KOTOR's plot twist and the plot twist from Deus Ex will always be stuck in my head.*

Before I got to this point in the game, I saw a video where someone was using a mod to wear Revan's robe and mask while fighting Malak at the end. Malak was also addressing the player character as "Revan". I thought, 'This is a cool mod'.
Little did I know that the outfit was the only thing modded.
You do know you can find revans outfit in the star forge unmodded right?
Not with the mask though. In the video their talking about the game was modded to add the mask on to the robes.
@@Selfish_Neurotic it does have the mask in the unmodded version
It's true, I went dark side my playthrough and straight up donned all the Revan gear and was running around using force lightning through the end of the game. Felt like a total badass.
If they dont want to make a kotor 3, hell just give us an anniversary edition of kotor.
They couldve given us a 10 year anniversary last year :l
LordOfTheFruits They sort of, kind of did (if you squint hard enough) in the form of the iPad/iPhone version.

I just wanted to continue the story asap.

I really hope they remaster this some day in the unreal engine 4.
I think that the fanmade remake (Apeiron) is being built on the Unreal Engine 4.
+ninjasolidsnake they are remaking it though I think, officially, as well as that fan made thing.
@@xenon8117 they shut it down because they are making an official kotor remake. it has been annouced
why they don't make games like these anymore?
this is one of my favourite RPGs of all time
Because EA bought Bioware and doesn't want to make Kotor.and make lootboxes and SJW trash.Because Disney destroyed entire Expanded Universe and make istead SJW worst movie in Star Wars- Last Jedi.Because George Lucas is not in charge. Is this explanation enough.

After reading my comment again, I noticed just how bad my English is. Dang.
When I first played this game it did too, classic for its time.
Carth: "DOWN YOU GO!"
Malak: Magic space wizards talking here.
Give Carth credit here. He was very ballsy to take on the Dark Lord of the Sith with just his blasters.
This blew my fucking mind when i first played this game when i was younger.
"Say my name." "You are...Darth Revan." "You're goddamn right."
The best Star Wars game of all time. PERIOD ♡
It's probably my favorite piece of Star Wars media.
True.
no battlefront 2015 is!!! said no one ever
I think KOTOR2 has a deeper story even incomplete. Kotor has a basic bioware story (big threat, ancient artifact/civlization, and you play the choosen one).
Xavier 1 I agree. While KOTOR had a great story, KOTOR 2 is superior in my eyes.
Malak: The council never told you what happened to Darth Revan
Protagonist: They told me enough! they told me You betrayed him and Bastilla killed him!
Malak: No YOU are Revan!
Protagonist: No! that's not true! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
Malak: search your memories. You KNOW it to be true
Protagonist: NOOOOOOOOO
Honestly, do you all have to keep making this a meme?

Back when Star Wars games made by dedicated fans who wanted to tell a story rather than rely on the success of the films (EA) This did something you'd NEVER see in another franchise. They sent you back 4000 years before the movies and brought a whole new era to the series. It teaches you lore that helps enrich the experience of the movies. This game and KOTOR made me appreciate the prequels more because they allow you to read into things more. I will never stop playing KOTOR. I wish we got KOTOR 3. Could you imagine a KOTOR game on current gen consoles or PC?!!
I agree with you almost entirely! I don't think we would ever see this in a 'BIG' money-grab franchise, but perhaps in a more niche franchise.
It's coming buddy!!
“Rather than rely on the success of the films”
Nobody tell this guy what most of the old EU basically was.
It's the equivalent of waking up to realize that you're not just any Sith but The Emperor.
Ah, what a funny scene. My character's name was Raven. So, when she said "I'm not Revan ! I'm Raven !" I though that it was cool the game searched for anagrams of the PC's name for the villain. But it was too obvious from the start.
Then i made another character.
Oh.
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
Sadly, Wikipedia spoiled this for me before I got anywhere close to this part. (Just so people know, I took about 6 years to get off of Taris.)
Revan saved the galaxy in less than 1/6 of that time XD
EnderHeart5911 Yeah, I was pretty bad at this game when I first got it. When I first played it, I couldn't figure out how to level up, so I couldn't get through a door on the Endar Spire. It took me several months (maybe even a year) before I tried again and successfully got off the damn thing.
Omg i waws too young to know how the fuck to level up so i mashed buttons to level up to get passed that door
buck bomb I don't remember how I figured it out.
Wikipedia spoiled it for me too, I was really pissed at myself for reading it
At first I thought "No..

+Adam Roberts me too I just got the game yesterday, and I was looking fora level guidebut I got distracted.
I knew because I played Kotor 2 first. It's pretty obvious
The only reason I knew about KotOR was because of the reveal. I wish I hadn't spoiled it for myself, but I doubt I would've been interested otherwise.
***** Thank you for spoiling the game for me...
I came to the get *because* I knew what happened, but I do have plans to rope in someone who doesn't know the story muahaha.
I don't think it was that big of a surprise to begin with. I love the revelation, but as a twist it was pretty poorly handled. They make it pretty obvious. I figured it out on Dantooine. Here's what happened when I played. I got to Dantooine and the masters were talking about how Revan was no more and master Vrook said "What if we should train this one and the dark lord should return?"
Me: "Master Vrook how in the fuck would training me cause a dead man to come back to life..........Oh...........Oooohhhhhh...........Oh fuck I'm Revan aren't I?"
I mean how else are you supposed to take that line?
NO!! ITS NOT TRUE!!! THATS IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
You know it to be true!
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Dark Bastilla: "Join me, and we shall rule the galaxy as the sexiest couple."
Malak "Search your feelings Revan, you know it to be true!"
Hy- chan NEVER!! I WILL NE- Wait a sec, did you say sexy couples? Well okay then.
After 19 years, this game STILL holds up.
KotOR:
Malak: Even the combined powers of the Jedi Council couldn't keep your true identity buried forever, could it? The Jedi Council never told you what happened to Darth Revan.
Revan: They told me enough! They told me you killed him!
Malak: No. YOU are Darth Revan.
Revan: No, that's not true! That's impossible!
Malak: Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Revan: NOOOOOOOOOOO!
Empire:
Vader: If only you knew the power of the Dark Side.
I figured out the Twist, and told him “Dude, I think we’re actually Darth Revan”
He totally brushed that off. Then, two weeks or so later…
What gave it away for you?

I’ll never forget this moment the first time I experienced it. I was so blown away by it.
I experienced this for the first time ever the other day. Amazing for a game that is nearly 20 years old
The first time I played this game was like 12+ years ago fully blind. Back when I don't really care about full completion and just play for the gameplay and story. This blew my mind on so many levels. One of the finest video game moments in my life
The best plot twist I’ve ever experienced in my life
my favourite ever game, and a lot of that is because of this exact scene, I remember first playing it as a 10 year old kid and being shocked beyond belief when u find out, I don't think a twist in a story has ever hit me as hard as this did.
I'm so glad I played this par as a kid. I can say I had a "I'm your father" moment with star wars. A twist my stupid kid mind never saw coming
+Pittsburgh91 Yeah, but given that happened not that long ago, it was unexpected for Revan that Malak for try again so soon.
probably if he tried again directly he would have lost his head
Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Revan understood that Malak was reckless and a gambler, he didn't expect Malak to be willing to gamble again so soon after the last time. He expected Malak to be "shier."
In part because Revan assumed that Malak would be...more rational and saner. He underestimated both how the power of the Dark Side came from giving in to one's emotions and Malak's own tendency to go off.
Revan: "I remember now. I was the one who sliced off your jaw. For mouthing off."
Malak has such a derpy laugh.
One of the most badass plot twists in the entire history of games! :D
And one of the best Star Wars games ever made!
"Down you go"
Ps: I was doing just fine against him Bastila, no need for your "sacrifice".
I love that after the cinematic that shows you're Revan, there is that short, quiet shot of the Leviathan flying through space, so you can collect your jaw from the ground.
I will never forget my jaw dropping to the floor during the reveal while sitting in my underwear playing this game on the 15 inch TV my parents let me keep in my room.
damn, looks like your jaw suffered the same fate as malak's.
This twist honestly rivals the "I am your father" scene.
Man, I love the start of this scene with Carth saying his old "Down you go!" Catchphrase, immediately getting force pushed down & Malak just going "LOL"
Best
Man I can't wait for kotor2 coming to Nintendo switch on December the 14th!
Malak:
"You are weak."
"You are not fit to rule the Sith!"
"Once I defeat you in combat no one will question my claim to the Sith throne!"
5 seconds into the duel with Revan
Malak:
"Oh shit" *runs
Malak just running away makes me laugh so hard "Oh shit this guy is actually pretty powerful"

Now i want to play KOTOR again for a 100th time :D
When I played Kotor for the first time, I already knew about the twist that main character is Revan ( thx outsidexbox :P ). Yet revelation, and how masterfully all these subtle hints were woven into story still hit me like a ton of bricks.
I still remember playing this game for the first time and the shock of this moment. Brilliant storytelling.

One of the most shocking twists of all time
,,You do not yet remember Revan?"
Darth Malak: If you only knew the power of the dark side, Bastila Shan never told you what happened to Darth Revan?
Revan: She told me enough! She told me you killed him!
Darth Malak: No. YOU are Revan...
Vrook: what happens if we train this one, and the Dark Lord should return?
Not Revan: what does training me have to do with Revan coming back?
I wish I could experience this game for the first time again.
On the plus side, you totally got an early sneak peek at Darth Nihilus.
Revan: I AM NOT REVAN!
Malak: Shows pic of them both sitting on death bodies of their enemies
Revan: Understandable, have a good day.
Easily a GOTD
I’m still mad we didn’t get kotor 3. Would have been interesting to see what the unknown regions and fighting ancient Sith Lords would have been.
I had to pause the game after the cut scene and rethink my life. 12 year old me couldn’t believe what I just witnessed.
