- Part 3 of my "Grow It Bonsai Kit " from gift republic. I started this kit in 2020 and I showed its first year in the previous videos ...then I didn't do any updates for a while. So now we have its progress throughout 2021, 2022 and 2023.
This kit consisted of Birch, Alder and a Japanese Black Pine. They where all mixed together, but I have slowly separated them out and I have also made separate playlists for each planting.
🔴 I expand on the growing instructions and give more information on what to do with this kit here:

Love that you are following a seed kit. This is great viewing :)
Cheers :) i think a lot of people have kits like this, so i guess its good for them to see what can happen
Thanks for this! I'm giving the present kit to someone else! Being in my 80s I need to make the most of the time I have left.
Cheers, that will be a nice present for them :)
I was gifted 2 of these kits over the last couple of years. To be honest I don't have the patience for them, so to see you doing it credit to you. Great updates and nice to see the trees are all doing well.
Cheers, yeah they are a bit slow to get going. first few years are a bit painful, but the fun can start soon. hopefully. lol
Love what you do and can’t wait to see how these trees look in the next couple of years!
cheers :)
I loved your work, very wonderful, your follower from Morocco 🇲🇦
Cheers :)
Fantastic update!! I love the treasure hunt for what's what lol. Amazed how nice and proportional your trees grow - my little birch forest shoots up with 4 inch internodes and leaves the size of dinner plates. Your grouping just looks so natural - really lusting over it at the moment!
Cheers sue, yeah i am surprised it has kind of stayed the size it is, both the leaves and general structure. I havnt even started pruning it. hopefully it stays this way and doesnt start misbehaving later on
Loving the long update Broski. Trying to figure out which tree is which. That would have been a fun mull over with a pint. Cheers 😎🌳🌳
Cheers bro. yeah, note to self. ... dont do that over winter lol
YES! The mega update that I have been waiting for 😁
I'm excited for what you are going to do with the alders, maybe a clump style fusion? I'll be excited to see it ^^
cheers :) its been too long!
but yeah im excited to see what i do too haha
a long process to achieve success👍👍
verrrrrry long hahah. but it is what must be done :)
I have a birch tree in my yard in Canada these little seedlings pop up all over I have a forest going as well
yeah there is on near by here too. now they keep popping up in all my other pots :)
I think you should be able to tell apart the downy from the silver birch by the new shoots in spring and later also by the leaves.
yeah exactly ... but there is no real difference. lol. so i think they are actually just all downy birch.
nice work☀️🤩☀️
Cheers :)
Look at those shoot off! How do yours not blow over in that wind! Gotta be a dense root ball!! 2024 will be fun.
Cheers bro. i dont know how they dont blow over. i guess the pot has a low centre of gravity lol
My wife baught me this pack and I've just planted the seeds thanks to a boost from your channel✌️would love to know what potting mix you use once they start to grow.
Cheers, hopefully yours go well.
I use a mix of molar clay, perlite and compost. i have a video on it, but basically its just equal parts of those 3 and it does the job pretty well
Downy birch have tiny hairs at the tips when hardened, silver birch was tiny white spots
yeah i think these are all downy to be honest, they all seem the same and a little hairy on the underside. the more time goes on, the more i think that is the case.
@@BackGardenBonsai I have a similar downy birch forest that came from some seedlings that sprouted in the garden , looks ok but the main one in the middle is silver birch! I decided to keep it in there, save disturbing it and honestly I don’t even notice. The foliage was same size and colour even in autumn
I ahebeen following thi series from the start and I started this kit a few months ago and they are only few inches tall but some of the leaves have started to yellow, is that common in dexember for such young saplings or am i doing something wrong. Theyre in the original pot and soil from the kit and i have tem sealina sea through container. Any ides of what im doing wrong or is this normal?
Nice update anyways!
depends on many things. technically they should be shutting down for winter. but if you have them inside it may be different.
also a few leaves yellowing here and there isnt too much of a concern. but could also be the fact you have them in a sealed bag. i would start opening that and get it used to the air of the room, then get them outside in spring where they will be most happiest.
@@BackGardenBonsai Ah ok! Thank you! 🙏🏿
After soaking the soil per the instructions, do I have to continue to water it daily during the 2 week and 6 week fridge period?
I have this kit but still haven't used it, I'm a bit nervous if I'm honest 😬
only think to be nervous about is where you are going put all your new trees. its hard to find the space for this many! lol :)
The thing is, why do they look like normal sized trees ? Like when do they become bonsai looking ?
I've just started mine today !
They are normal trees. they become bonsai over years, by doing certain techniques and managing how they grow.
its kind of like how bodybuilders are not any different to normal people.. they just do certain techniques to pump themselves up as such. dealing with these is kinda of the reverse, trying to keep them small. if you just put any of these in the ground and left them they would grow like normal trees
What do you use for the soil if you don't mind me asking?
its a fairly equal mix of molar clay, compost and perlite. probably a little bit more molar clay than the other two
I remember the first video!
haha it was a long time ago
