As soon as I saw the announcement, I couldn’t wait to see your video. I agree. The Boston Marathon is an exclusive, prestigious event and I don’t think anything about the selection process should change. And I say this as someone who is about to age up and is desperate to run this race as a time qualifier. Long live the BAA! 🦄
Well, there are always the stupid charity entries. I love it when a 3:00 runner misses the cutoff, but a slow, 5 hour runner can get in without training or working for it if they have a lot of rich friends to donate to their charity bib. I love seeing my slow, rich friends brag about running Boston with a 4:45 time while I miss the cutoff by 57 seconds.
It sounds like you're frustrated about the cutoff situation, and that’s understandable. But going after people who run for charity, whether they're fast or slow, doesn't really help the argument. Charity runners are still out there putting in work, raising money for important causes, and running the same distance. It’s a different path to the start line, but it doesn’t take away from their effort or the positive impact they're making. At the end of the day, there’s enough space in the running world for both competitive qualifiers and charity runners to coexist, and everyone's journey is valid.
@@TheUsualSuspekt There are many marathons one can run for charity if it is really about raising money for charity. Why would someone choose a race which is known for being a qualifying race?
@TheUsualSuspekt why do you need to run an Abbott Major Marathon with a qualifying time that required a top 4% ability for "chatity"? Just raise the money without "reward", or do a walk-a-thon, or some other non-premium event? Being able to say you ran Boston, without actually qualifying for the event is an empty accomplishment and takes away from those who actually have the top 4% ability. When you see someone with a Boston jacket or medal or bib picture, people say "wow, you ran Boston!" they get the glory, but they never correct you and say "well yes, but I was a charity bib, so I technically didn't have a qualifying time and I ran it in 4:45". It like "stolen valor" to those who sometimes work a lifetime to achieve a BQ. Buying your way into a prestigious race, even if you are doing it for charity, is wrong on my opinion. Don't get me wrong, charity races are great! I run one every year, and raise money for juvenile diabetes, but it's not Boston. It doesn't need to be Boston. It is an actual charity race FOR juvenile diabetes and does not have a strict qualifying time that 96% of people cannot achieve. If you have a strict qualifying time to run the race, you should not allow just anybody to run, even if they raise money for charity.
@justinnevins107 has nothing to do with me. I'm voicing my opinion respectfully the same as you. You're going to think whatever you want anyway. Do you feel the same way about celebs, Influencer, and overseas tour groups that didnt earn their way in? What about companies like Poland Springs that have contests for a way in or people who lost their legs in the Bombings that wish to run but can't meet their age group times or are they exempt? If you want it bad enough, work harder. Boston is not the end all be all.
Long live the BAA! No need to change the rules…. Especially as I’m about 50 minutes inside qualifying 🤩…. Shame I can’t afford to go every year despite having qualifying times for past 7 years. Sponsors welcome💰
Love the video! The problem is the fact that it is a moving target. I beat the BQ time by 6:29 and probably won't get in. No one likes a moving target. Why not slide Q times up 10 minutes...some say it will be there this year. I think they should toughen up the times, and if you are in your are in. I would also suggest that each age group should be considered separately if using the old system.
yesterday on IG someone commented something along the lines of "Boston is becoming an elitist only marathon" I'm like, dude, Boston has always been elitist. That's what makes it what it is. I'm not sure what rock some people have been sleeping under.
Hopefully we won't get to a point in few years time where runners with work ethic can't get in, and you really need to be genetically gifted to have a chance. BTW, the jacket can be had by people who ran Boston through charity and travel partners...
And anyone else. People buy the jacket in stores like Marshalls. I keep having to remind people that it’s the SHIRT-not the jacket-that only entrants get at the Expo. They still have to buy the jacket if they want it.
A good BM is never overrated before a run. It's only DURING a run where they are overrated (I'm intentionally "misunderstanding" your abriviation for humerous reasons... I'm not very funny).
Yeah, if you do a traditional gender-adjusted pace for 2:55 its more like a 3:18. (I do think the BAA is trying to gender-balance the race, so men and women need to sort of be done separately, with the target being a 50/50 gender split in the field.)

BQ times should decrease 4% every year to keep up with shoe technology.
the BAA ought to bring you in as a consultant.
@@TheSeriousRunner😂
I got my first BQ last year but didn't even try to get in this year, take that BAA.
BAAing the BAA is a power move for sure
LONG LIVE THE BAA 🦄
Long Live the BAA 🦄
“That’s what I like about these Boston Marathon qualification brackets. I get older, they stay the same. Alright, alright, alright”
The real problem here is the hobby joggin charity runners taking up space!!
100% agree here!!!!
Haha
I've been waiting for this. Thanks for the leak Eva
whoa whoa whoa -- don't blow my puppy's cover! 🐶
People always want what they can’t have and want other ways to get in. I’ll never be fast enough for the BM so props to anyone that gets there 🙌🏻
First episode without the BAA frying someone? I was waiting for the button to be pushed🔥
Boston should just be for fast runners, not for slow runfluencers. Long live the BAA lol

seriously... get a shoe brand to pay for you to come on over

I once heard a runner in Boulder say Boston is the easiest major marathon to get into. You just have to qualify by enough buffer and you're in.
You said it?🤣!
@@Vo2maxProductions It might seem on brand for me...but it actually wasn't 😇
Hell yeah. The day they make the Boston Marathon appear lottery, is the day I quit trying to get into that race.
classic stuff. as always
As always with the BAA, follow the money.
It’s harder to get into Tokyo or London than getting into Boston 🤷🏻♂️
Put on the Alphaflys, Shinji.
2xBQer / 2×BRejectee here. And yet I kind of agree.
Same here. On both points.
How does the BAA feel about net downhill course to BQ, keep in mind, Boston is a net downhill course 🤔
uh, I will need to check with my source to see if he's got anything about that

This, but unironically
Huge plot twist! Abbott ditches Boston and the BAA and introduces Sydney as not the seventh Major, but the replacement number 6!

🙄
The BM shouldn't change... it'd limit the content on this channel!!! 😂
I can't disagree...
But they didn't make it tighter for 60-year-olds! And I'm 57! There is still hope!
Something to look forward to when you’re 73 like me 😂
Hmm the BAA didn’t employ the fire trap this time, well there’s always next time 😂
Nah I am planning to run sub 3marathon as a woman before even thinking about applying- just to show that 3.30 is weak.

The women standard needs to be lowered to 3:20 or better.
