Some help for people who are lost... -Start with a slipknot -chain 3 then slip stitch into chain 1. -chain 2, double crochet all the way around -chain 2, 2 double crochet around (so, 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2), then slip stitch -chain 2, double crochet the next 2 stitches, then 2 double crochet in the next (so it'll be 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 2) when done, slip stitch. -chain 2, 2 double crochet in the next stitch, then double crochet once in the next 3 stitches (so, 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2), slip stitch -chain 2, 2 double crochet, double crochet once in the next 4 (so, 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2), slip stitch continue this until desired size (you can stop at five or keep going up to seven if you have a bigger head like me lol) -chain 2 then double crochet once in each stitch all around (so, 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1). slip stitch. Repeat this layer until you have desired slouchiness (you can make 9 - 19 layers) -single crochet through the back loop all around until you have 4 layers. -tie off & hide extra yarn & cut off any excess. omg I hope it made sense now.
@ Paulette (or any one- )Thank you for this detail! It does get confusing watching this video at times. As I am a beginner I need some advice. I realize that the yarn and hook make a big difference in how large the hat becomes. Can you tell me what yarn and hook you used for and adult hat? Thank you!!!!
I've been using this tutorial for well over 5 years now. Every time I need to make a hat for someone I pull this tutorial back up. Right now my son's school has a spirit week and they want him to wear a holiday hat, so I'm making this with red and green. Thank you for this tutorial, you've helped me more than you know
Let me start by saying, I have never crochet before. The other day I saw the yarn and thought to myself i could learn this. Because of your video i have successfully crochet 2 beanies, one for my wife and one for my son, i ended up doing the pattern up to eight apart before doing SC all the way around it allowed the hat to fit more loose around a larger head. thank you for the video🤙
I just started teaching myself how to crochet about 2 weeks ago. All for the express purpose of making a hat and earrings. I found your video on yesterday and finished my beanie today. I don't think it's big enough for my head..and I went up to 10 single dc's but it's a great hat and I look forward to making this pattern again. Your video was awesome.
Thank you!! I had the same problem and I saw your comment so now I'm redoing the single dc's since I only made five -- it was definitely too narrow. You're a life saver! :)
I tried this one hundred times. and it FINALLY worked. so if u were like me and didn't understand anything, imma tell u, just keep on trying. it will soon work!!! thanks a lot!
So 15 dc into starting ring. Then how many rows do you make after that, and how far to you do the increasing stiches? (To make full adult size) Thanks in advance.
Awesome tutorial! Very clear. I read through some of the comments and decided to use larger hooks - "I' for the double crochets, and "G" for the single crochet band. And I did 15 dc into the ring, like grinsand gigglesnursery mentioned below. Turned out perfect for my teen and fits my big head, too. :)
I have a pixie cut and I want a hat that fits!!! My noggin, is 23 inches around!!! So I need to cover it and I been searching for something to fit me! Blessings to you and happy crafting!!!
This was my first crochet project EVER. Just finished it and have gotten so many compliments on my hat. You do a wonderful job demonstrating step by step directions! You also make it fun! Thank you! Looking forward to more crotchet creations!
Thank you so much for this Wonderful Slouchy Beanie. This is my go-to cap for both men and women. I love the Tip on how to tighten up the band. That I put to use on all my hats that look too big around the band. I have made 5 of these so far and will make more for my Christmas Gifts. Thanks Again. Your instructions are so simple to follow and I love the bar graphs at the top. I pause them to make sure my counts are correct. They are perfect everytime.......
Thank you SO much for this wonderful video tutorial! I was able to follow along with you and crochet each stitch just as you showed on the video. Please find some other items to crochet and make another video like this one! This video ROCKS!
Thanks thanks thanks for demonstrating this project, MCN! Making my first beanie as a beginner was so much easier with your video. Looking forward to crocheting more.
I enjoyed the video easy to understand used worsted weight and size H hook and smaller size G took almost the whole skein and turned out perfect......am happy
I love your tutorials! I am self taught and I can always follow you. This is my first hat, and I'm pleased with how it turned out! It is for my niece's 16th birthday!! SHE LOVES IT!!
I love your video!! I have watched it more than once and have made a hat. I wanted to refresh myself before I made another one. I used a 9 hook for mine and went up to 2 dc and then 7. With the sc I used a 4.25 hook. It fits me fine!! Thank you so much for posting this video!!
Also I wanted to let the people with the smaller beanies know that she actually ended the pattern earlier than should. (She probably has a smaller head). After the 2 DC and 5 single DC, keep going up to 7 single DC. And that should make it pretty normal! Test it on your head first too to see if you should keep going up. Hope that helps!
+Emily Bouromphongsa Oh I wish I would have seen your comment. My browser was restricted so it wasn't showing the comments. I thought it seemed small for the crown but thought, well it said to go ahead with the single DC. I tried it on after I finished and it is super tight. I was making this as a gift and I have to start over. *sigh* Maybe this will work for kids.
Love it! Very easy to follow the instructions and you make it fun! Thanks so very much for your inspiration and sharing your talent with all of us. You get a thumbs up and I subscribed! YAY!!!
Very cool. I'm going to make this tonight to match my scarf I made. Also, I love the band. It gives it a nice touch that's different from other beanies.
if you know how to do the magic circle I highly advise using the ring because if you use the slipknot and then chaining ect it will leave a hole in the top of the hat
Ms. Craft Nerd, thank you so much for posting this video. I made my first slouchy beanie. I am a beginner myself and this was fairly easy to follow. I admittedly have a big head so I am glad it actually fits. I think the size of it around the head at the end depends on how small a hook you use? Idk, anyway, thank you!
I am a true beginner....after making the first one too small...should have read all the comments...I was successful in making my first slouchy hat...I hope my daughter likes it. :)
I'm gonna try this with my daughter. I love the way your video is made and I think you're a wonderful teacher (i've taught crochet classes & I know). ;) - Maggie Alvord
This would be better if you would say how many stitches you have at the end of each row. It makes it a little easier to follow since there isn't a written pattern. But the hat is super cute. Working on it now.
Hey there! I have just subscribed as well. You are awesome. I am a beginner and this was super easy to make. Thanks again. I'll definitely be learning from you again after this beanie. :)
Wow! I know this is somewhat old at this point, but this is such a great tutorial! You explained everything very clearly and I was never lost (even if I had to tweak a few things to make it fit in my big head, lol) great job! ❤️

I know right, it didn't take me that long either! And so glad your granddaughters loved it! ☺️
I never thought I'd be capable of making a hat until I saw this video! Absolutely LOVE how it turned out!

So glad it helped! ☺️
Emily Bouromphongsa
Thank you for the tutorial. Easy to follow. Made this for my daughter. She loves it.
So glad your daughter loves it! ☺️
for an adult size you need to use a larger hook and use 15 DC into the ring
+grinsand gigglesnursery Thank you so much.
Thank you! I was wondering why it came out so narrow.
yes I have my own pattern for how to make every size hat
your welcome no problem
So 15 dc into starting ring. Then how many rows do you make after that, and how far to you do the increasing stiches? (To make full adult size) Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video, it was very easy to follow, made my beanie quickly and even crocheted a flower for it.

Wow your an awesome teacher , I'm a beginner but you really explain it really good. Thank you so much.
Very helpful video, great instructions on hat and on stitches. cute and energetic:)
Thank you for posting this comment for everyone! I love it when we all just help each other! #squadgoals! ☺️😋

Glad you liked it!
Very cool. I'm going to make this tonight to match my scarf I made. Also, I love the band. It gives it a nice touch that's different from other beanies.
if you know how to do the magic circle I highly advise using the ring because if you use the slipknot and then chaining ect it will leave a hole in the top of the hat
It doesn't leave a large enough hole to complain about. And It's very hep to add a fake fur pompom these days.
The hole isn't big enough for concern and if it ever gets to that point you can easily fix it :)
love the beanie! your instructions are great. I am a beginner so this video was extremely helpful

You did a great job! I have tried several other beanie tutorials and this one worked the best. Thank you.

This would be better if you would say how many stitches you have at the end of each row. It makes it a little easier to follow since there isn't a written pattern. But the hat is super cute. Working on it now.
