  • As a new crawler I ordered the Wilderness Beluga from HB Toys.
    For me the Beluga is great and cheap crawler with lots of potential. I got the Beluga for 262.70 EUR here.
    In this video I seperate my upgrade versions and build in a new motor, the sound module and the winch.
    The costs of my versions are:
    - Beluga FUN: 579 EUR
    - Beluga PERFORMANCE: 562 EUR
    - Beluga FUN PERFORMANCE: 659 EUR
    Chapters:
    00:00 Intro
    00:15 A few Words in Advance
    00:41 Water Protection
    01:21 Chain Repair
    01:41 The two Versions of the Beluga
    03:52 Changing the Motor (Pt. 1)
    04:14 Calibrating the Motor
    05:37 Motor Pairing
    06:37 Changing the Motor (Pt. 2)
    08:02 Programming the ESC
    12:50 I have to correct Something
    14:52 The Sound Module
    17:41 Sound Check
    18:49 The Winch

    More nice upgrades, but I find with motors not all are equal. I changed a 45t to 35t and the crawler went slower. But nice motor set up, motor auto setup never seen that before. Adding grease never hurts, some can be dry. Sound unit, then winch and adaptor is a bit of plug nightmare. I normally solder leads in line if I can. But the sound unit does add something to the truck, I just wished they were a bit cheaper. Using a cheaper platform, does leave a good budget for all the nice upgrades.

      Thanks a lot Mal. After the first tests I'm out with the brushed motors on my crawlers. Hadn't expected this fine steering of a BL.
      Soldering is not my favorite thing. I had soldered my TRX4, because I wanted to keep the Traxxas ID plug. The result is not long, but big. This time and in this stage the car should be for beginners, I went the adapter way. I know this isn't perfect because of the electrical resistance. But the loss of the running time should be marginal and I'm not in a need for high speeds.
      Yes these sound modules're expensive. Luckily they stayed at this price for years now. I'm always thinking if I'm really in need. For my Tamiya big wheelers I always use the Reely system. Costs're at a third, no changing of the sound (but it's fine), one speaker and adjustable to the channel. This time I went the expensive way, it's because this high end upgrade fits into the budged plan. And the Reely is more for runners than crawlers.

      Thanks a lot. I team up with Gottfried after Christmas to do a bigger run (video'll follow). Everyone I found has made good experience with this combo. On heavier crawlers over 5 kg it might be a little bit undersized, but from that my Beluga's far away.

    Awesome video glad watched the programming I think I've been doing my programming wrong, never seen the wire run from the on and off button, and I've used two wires one from the ESC and one from the I believe the receiver, anyway I'll figure it out, always good info, we can learn allot from your expertise 🙏☮️✝️

    Hello Dirk, very nice and useful upgrades. I am particularly interested in the Hobbywing upgrade. Our TRX4s still have the Traxxas standard setup. I'm not entirely satisfied with that. Slow starting and engine braking are not sensitive enough in the standard setup of the TRX4.

    • @RCBirds
      @RCBirds  6 місяців тому +1

      This system's great for what I had seen in the studio. And it's budget, whhat's great, too. If your car stays under 5 kg the 1800 kv fit. Above you'll need another motor. Maybe Hobbywing does a bigger SE because of the success of the two which're available.
      The plug system is another thing and depending on the batteries you use. If you like to use Traxxas' ID Sytem, you'll have to solder.
      Next week I test the Beluga on heart and soul at Halde Grosses Holz in Berkamen. Video'll released in the new year. Then I really can tell you how good or bad this combo is😉

    My R1001 has a FusionSE 1800kv with the stock radio. Ive abused it, jumped it, submerged it and the only problem ive had is siezed bearings. Receiver loses range under water but works fine apart from that. Its my favourite truck, and i have a couple of TRX4s in the collection 😂

    Tolles Video Dirk, eine Frage und ein Tip:
    Wie lassen sich die Lenkungsendpunkte einstellen? (Der Servo zieht noch kräftig weiter, obwohl das Lenkgestänge am Anschlag ist)
    hier mein Tip: wen das Blinken stört, der kann das ganz einfach abstellen, indem bei den Rückleuchten das rote Kabel und bei den Frontscheinwerfern das grüne Kabel ausgepinnt wird (jeweils direkt an den 4 Steckern)

    • @RCBirds
      @RCBirds  6 місяців тому +2

      Danke sehr Markus für's anschauen und das Feedback.
      Da der Wagen gleich auf große Fahrt geht, werde ich mal auf das Servo achten. Das Phänomen hatte ich noch nicht festgestellt. Da am Sender keine Wegbegrenzung ist, würde ich programmierbare Servos vorschlagen oder trainieren das Rad nicht voll zu drehen. Sollte beim Crawler wegen den geringen Fahrgeschwindigkeiten kein Ding sein.
      Da ich keine Erfahrungen mit den Ersatzteilen habe, möchte ich jetzt nicht sagen, im Sender Bregenzer einbauen.
      Alternativ ginge auch ein kompletter Einbau einer neuen Funke mit entsprechenden Features. Allerdings würde ich dann auch so eine einfache Lichtsteuerung einbauen, wie sie meine Lunch Box hat und dann die Lichstecker darauf (2polig) anpassen. Oder in Gänze darauf verzichten. Meine Dach- und Rocklights schmeissen genug Licht zum Fahren raus. Die eingebauten LEDs sind da eher scale und nice to have.

    Excellent video! I've been on the fence about getting a TRX4 or a clone. How does this compare with the TRX4 after the upgrades? Thanks!

    • @RCBirds
      @RCBirds  17 днів тому +2

      I had done a testrun with the TRX4 from Gottfried (video in this playlist). We found no differences in the performance. Okay on this 4 hour tour there were no challenging obstacles like on some course. But it managed the tour very well and on one battery. And there it still had the stock motor.
      For the BL-version I did a seperate video. I lost a wheel, but I think it was due to the Injora wheelnuts.

      Hi, the last three slots on the receiver're just power sockets for the rock and the roof lights. The winch gets it's power direct from the battery and has its own transmitter.
