Thanks! I was able to get 2 bad coils out and replaced, spark plugs replaced, and radiator cleaned/reinstalled with help from this video. Looking forward to more /6 and K16 content in the future.
You bet! thanks for the support
I loved the way that you took the time and extra effort to explain step by step by step knowing how we will be there trying to follow along ourselves trying to do this job. I am grateful for your great communication skills. I am not so afraid to attempt this now.
Glad it was helpful!
Been waiting for this video.
Great video again. If you're looking for content ideas, repairing a stripped cylinder stud and removing/resealing around the cylinder jugs. I just completed both of these on a 94 R1100RS and had to piece together several "old" UA-cam videos. Grateful for them but it would be nice to see an updated version.
Wow what a job - I’m interested in a K16 Grand America but I think maybe I’ll stick to the 1250 platform! At least BMW use real hardware for panel attachments rather than the push pins that Honda uses on the Goldwing. Great video 👍
Tricky job. However, if you've spent all that money on one of those bikes, you can probably also afford to create your own well equipped workshop.
I'm very good at taking things apart but putting it back together is where I have issues. If I did this I would be taking off parts of a K1600 and when I put it back together I'll end up with a poorly running golf cart looking thing.
Great video. Which side is the number one cylinder? Throttle or clutch side?
Nice video, thanks for posting. What does this generally cost if you have a pro do it? The belt and valve service on my Duc is around $2300. Wondering how this compares.
👍👍👍
Very good video! Bmw says to check every 30,000 km, I wonder at what mileage do you actually need to adjust the gaps?
Sometimes you adjust and 30k. Other times not. All depends on how you ride
I’m wondering at what mileage was this bike at when you did this service? And describing the valve cover tightening sequence with torque specs would have been a valuable addition to the video.
38,000 miles approx
I checked @ 30.000km. All within spec. A lot of work though... labour of love, I suppose ! But saved about 500 Euro, by doing the 30km maintenance myself

BMW guy I have a 2012 bmw k1600gtl. With over 70,000 miles and the transmission is having issues in 5th gear,. My question is it possible to rebuild that.transmission. Or can I replace it with a transmission from a 2019 model year bmw k1600?
according to your spread sheet you are call cylinder 1 number 6? It shows direction of travel then cylinder 1 on the clutch side?
Cilindro1 lado embrague y cilindro 6 lado bomba freno delantero
Have you ever run across a K1600 engine that needed to have a valve shim changed? And if so, how many miles did the engine have?
yup, ive adjusted them at 18k but its rare
You missed a great opportunity to thoroughly clean the radiator while it was off the bike.
Trying to enjoy your video, but the loud humming noise is just to much.
This is why these K1600 are Money pit's, cause just imagine the Labor cost for a Job like this. Keeping this Bike after Warranty would be insane !!
Big deal , valve check . Show us how to remove those cams .
wasnt going to just remove them for fun! maybe next time i find one that needs adjustment
Pretty careless the way you're manhandling and touched all over on the painted services... maybe I'm sensitive because I'm used to crao goldwing paint
As long as a mechanic or tech wipes the bike down when their done. I always hate getting my car, truck or bike back covered in greasy fingerprints. Only takes a minute.
Cool Video. But I will stay with my R1200RT and 1979 KZ1000 ST. At 63 the Less work the better. 😂
Fair enough!
