I bumped into Lou on the street in Manhattan when I was just a kid and sang this song to him! He laughed when he realized what it was and was surprised someone so young knew his music! I never got to see him play live, but this video of him playing at the Capitol theater is great!
Sounds like your parents had excellent taste in music.
❤ that’s cool😎😎😎😎😎
Absolutely the right way to do it. He was famously prickly, and you just disarmed and delighted him, which I suspect he didn’t experience much.
One of the greatest songs ever written about rock and roll, especially about that exquisite moment of hearing rock and roll on the radio for the first time and being forever changed into a rock & roll animal!
What a loss to music when Lou passed, i like to think he is Jamming with David Bowie at that great gig in heaven ..god bless ya lou
I must say that this is some fine, fine music.
Despite all the amputations..
Of course its a new york station
Her life saved by rock n roll!
and it was all right
Robert Quine the greatest lawyer ever to play guitar or the other way around.
Oh yea you see him with Matt sweet in nbc
He suckers
WOW I WOULD NEVER THORT THAT HE
Robert Quine on guitar, I miss him and Lou dearly. And Jim Carrol, too.
This is Rock And Roll, God Bless Lou
The legendary Robert Quine in the back...
Quine: a real guitar hero
Peter Wood can really play the keyboards, love it
Lou Reed is my all time favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The way he plays this song..the momentum. Breath taking..Lou..you ROCK!
As has been said many times, Lou there is rock'n'roll
The likes of Lou Reed will not pass this way again.....
Good performance it rocks.
How great can a rock song get?
Tool......Descending.Old Tom can't even come close.
Lou was always excellent on rhythm guitar.
And lead
Lou was always excellent
I felt like this song was written for me. Thank You LOU, LOU, LOU💜💜💜🐱🐱💜💜💜
One of the best rr records of all time in my opinion
The original Rock & Roll Animal!
Live is hope and rock and roll..Miss you,Lou..
Lou, Robert, Jim RIP boys! Rock. N roll !❤️
Lou is killing it with the legendary Robert Quinn on guitar
Thanks. I wasn’t sure who that was.
rip robert...he was a master..lou reed major sidekick for years
Robert Quine
Quine - lead gtr, Fernando Saunders - bass, Jim Carroll. Wow
@@bretkindell6887 Quine (RIP) was a total badass guitarist. Listen to his stuff on the Blue Mask and on Lloyd Cole and Matthew Sweet's records.
Media man SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS WITH MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AND LOVE ONE FOR EVER
What a boost for rock. Lou Reed is brilliant.
Michael Walker from AZ you not that bad
one of the greatest , thanks Lou
Rock n roll animal lp blows away this version 🧐✌️🇬🇧
RIP Lou Reed Robert Quinne
and Jim Carroll!!! RIP
bouncing - I grew up in Scotland listen to Lou and the velvets , met him once seen him live 6 times amazing live and this is my favourite tune ever
i recently learned the word "cacophony" when Bowie was describing Lou Reed's music and... yeaaa. its music madness in the best way wow mind just blown
F'n great!!! RIP Lou.
Great version
Unbelievable the man had his own sound.❤
Love Lou😍
Always puts a grin on my face
Exactly! Good point. Rock on.
Lou Reed is the greatest Rock "Boris Karloff" of all time!
Eternidad para el príncipe de los desarropados. Gracias a Lou. Por haber sido un referente para muchos de nosotros. ETERNIDAD 🌌🌃🌉🎷🎸
Un verdadero artista...
Rock and roll at its finest.
Lou passed me on the street in Sheridan Square c.1982. I'm five-seven and couldn't believe how tiny he was.
Lou is very good.
Era um dos melhores. Saudade!!
Fantástico.
🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽👏🏽🌹🌹
Como añoro esos tiempos la mejor época musical del Rock
I miss Lou. I miss 25 year ago. Being old sucks.
Ah it’ll improve soon for you I swear ❤
Himno del rock & roll
So great. Excellent recording. The back-up singers ain't doing much, and that other guitarist is doing less, but this is so good. Lou Reed - yeah, baby!
Backup dancers?
Um...Don't let the cameraman not knowing where to focus (As usual) fool you. The "other guitarist" is Jim Lahey, and he's the one tearing it up on the solo break. Reed is playing rhythm on this song...Lahey is the one melting your eyeballs.
@@terrymcleod1959 Robert Quine.
@@terrymcleod1959 No!!! Robert Quine!!
that other guitarist is blowiing lou away
This was a big deal to me at age 19. We drove up from South Jersey to see this show. Bought tickets in the parking lot.
David Cavaliere I saw this lineup when they toured Australia in 1983; I would’ve been 18...a treasured memory
Jim Lahey is an incredible guitarist!
easyskankingdude it’s all the liquor

@@monkeyrevolution1964 dude that's weird as hell as I got the notification for this I was playing walk on the wild side on the bass 🤣 love Lou and the VU
@@TheWaveGoodbye-Music Wooouu , well they say tha I sound like Lou Reed voice ? really ? ua-cam.com/video/M954FUmeD3M/v-deo.html
there seems to be a debate about who's the guitarist (see above)
Solid Solid Drummer🤌🏼
For me, I can now hear the influence Lou had on Bowie's bands and music (not all of it). What a lovely man Lou was.
Greatest version...and the guitarist is the best 😎
Not even CLOSE to the version with Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner. Sorry ...
@@stevedrake604 could you please post it
It’s alright yes it is LOU
Dance, to that fine, fine music. It’s alright.
Cousin I am always with you
I am happy proud of you wherever you are
I love you,
Lou Reed: The Joe Piscopo Years.
Aww, there's Jim Carroll doing the harmony vocal! And the goddess backup singers too!....and the sound mix means nobody can hear them. Never mind, it's all right truly, what a raucous jam.
Arlene Smith , and the Chantells!!
moira: Saw Jim carrol play music once. Saw him read poetry once.
thanks, I was trying to recognise that dude
Unfortunately not a patch on the live version recorded on Lou's 'Rock 'n' Roll Animal' album, featuring Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter on guitars - absolutely sensational!
Indeed that's the absolutely TOP version..... Listen to it for the first time in the early 70's... still my favorite.
summs up Lou ane his commitment to RR , the piano accompiant says it all too. Its alright. End of the worl d as we know it. Thanks REM.
Its how wright. 😘😘🤗🤗
You can just imagine the planning for this show or tour or whatever..."Let's hide the world class guitarist behind the largely superfluous backup singers, so that it's impossible to get a decent shot of him". lol There's even a camera man back there, but he seemed to be focused on shooting the drummer rather than Quine. Oy!
He plays amazing guitar for certain.
Maybe he wanted it that way
Me Hero
Someone somewhere in Summertime told me uncle Lou, what you gonna do
Best out of tune singer ever.
This is a very good version. For flavor, check out Mitch Ryder's version. Look it up on the album Detroit. Different timing. 4/4. Still kicks
LOU REED
C'EST LOU REED
UN VRAI ARTISTE.
LUI IL NE SE VEND PAS COMME UNE....
BRRAVO MONSIEUR.
PAS DE PARTITION A LA CON ....😌😌😌😌
Dang they didn’t have that little guitar break in there ??? Wtf frick artsy crap that was my favorite part
👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽
Fernando Saunders is a gun bass player
I kept waiting for the back up singers to start singing but they were kinda like Jennys radio before she turned on a New York station
Best comment of the month🤣
I've often wondered if Lou Reed wanted to speed up the tempo purposely, because I really like the tempo of the studio version of Rock & Roll. Also to me it just sounds way too rushed, but then again that's my opinion. Rest easy Lou, and thank you for the amazing music especially this song.
Considering it was ‘84 and disco, punk were emerging, I think Lou just wanted to rock it out, while still in the fray
@@Rock_Girl_Daze Could be adrenaline. otoh, I hear vague rumors that there are very rare occasions when touring musicians take substances to get "up" for something like show 230 out of 300 of a tour. Probably an "easy" gig for them, just a quick drive from his home in NYC. At the time of this performance I lived in a roach infested studio apt in Passaic park, less than 1/2 mi from the Capitol Theater.
✌☝♥
Good
He sings just like Homer Simson
😂Xactily. What Homer?
Hats off to Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
Detroit rock city.
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🥰🤗🤗
el groove que tiene el batero iraní ese no se le compara con nada!!
Is that Jim Caroll on backup vox❓🤷🏻♂️
Sounds like Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting...
is that Robert Quine with the Ray Banson and the fiesta red strat?
indeed.
if yall wanna hear a great cover of this song search up the runaways
Herman Munster
is you rock enroll
Rien à voir avec la première mouture ! Ah ! Les versions concerts !!🙁
Love this version but it totally needs to be remixed - if that's even possible - I don't know
Not even the author himself can top the 1971 version by Mitch Ryder's band Detroit.
andyinoregon Or the intro from Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter on Rock n Roll Animal.
Another good version was the one by The Runaways. When Joan Jett screams, "Her life was saved by rock n roll!" she actually sounds like she knows what she's talking about.
He looks rather bemused
He is high, very high lol but in great shape!
Pretty cheerful actuallt, for Lou
great but version on Rock and Roll Animal has some of the best live guitar work of his career
Guns N' Roses might have used this as an idea for "Sweet Child O' Mine"
It's even at the same key!
Oh shit !!!!
Lou wrote the song. But I like Mitch's version better!
Prince Edward on guitar
I find it slightly unsettling to watch the back ground singers looking like they're not sure what the hubbub's about. They're too far back in the mix and seem uncertain of their parts.
I thought that too, yet they (and every other member of the band) was following Lou's lead as he attempted to (rather successfully) incorporate every member with a lead part. It's clear he gives the singers a chance to shine.
Remember, it wasn't the only song they sang to...;)
did back up singers get paid for doing nothing ?
Love Lou. But this is waaaayy too fast. Kills the groove.
but the studio version is somethng different and has a unique cool style. this version ruined it conmpletley. i love lou reed, he is a god, but this 80s sound...just awful
If you want to hear it ruined then listen to the version from the Velvet Underground reunion tour of 1993, the 1984 version will sound much better then.
And the colored girls said...
im sorry freddie but lou reed better
Garbage version. Amongst its many faults, the worst is the pace. The Original is languid and so cool. So amazing a song, so shitly played. WTF was he thinking.
not liking this version at all... no swing, rushed, and that guitar tone is a travesty
Wow, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels sure made this song something as this sucks!
👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽🌹👏🏽
