- Hi, here is a tutorial for canva.com showing you how to make a repeating seamless pattern that can be used to print on fabric on spoonflower.
This is the super easy way to make a pattern repeat for seamless designs.
Hint: When resizing the image, make sure the numbers read (1200 x 1200)

I knew there had to be a simple way to do it! Thanks for the tutorial- I’m excited to play with it! 🥰
This is genius! Not like some other tutorials where the graphics are just manually aligned. Yours is based on math!
SUPER HELPFUL!! Thank you for teaching me this skill! Much appreciated! You saved me from having to hire this design out - and now I can create more by myself! Thanks Caroline!
I've now been able to easily convert about 20 designs from basic t-shirt to seamless repeat pattern, thank you SO much! Yes, I did change the original design to suit a pattern, but this method is just so easy!
Hey were you images blurry web trying to upload it to the tshirt website?
Amazing! I regularly uses Canva for soc med posts and poster making. Never imagined I could actually create own fabric pattern with it! Excellent stuff! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I think this is the 3rd time in 3 years i've come back to this tutorial to relearn how to tile images haha
Im glad i foundthis video, adding my own art to canva and making patterns with it is so fun :) thanks for shoing how its done!
Hi I have watched and watched this video it’s easy to follow along and understand. When I put my continuous pattern together, no matter how hard I try I can’t get rid of the line that shows where it repeats. I just need to nudge it over the smallest amount but i just can’t get it without that line. Any help appreciated
Me too 😔
Use grid to combine the images
Beyond grateful for this fantastic video. Thank you for your easy instructions ❤️👍🏻
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Very easy to follow!!
absolutely brilliant. This is the best
Thank you ...from Thailand...Nice Sharing..❤️💕
This was so very useful, I struggled tried to make them like a whole thing, it never looked good, now I know why haha
thanks
This is so helpful, especially since I do not yet have Adobe Illustrator. Thank you, Caroline!
Whenever I try this it leaves a line in between the patterns
Same - tried a few times and exported different files, but although the images match up, the line between them is visible.
Ugh same
Same😒
Thank you very much for sharing this technique!
Finally a program that I can use to start designing. Thank-You! So excited to try this. Very clear tutorial . Can I upload my Drawings to use as elements? Can I use a picture of multiple elements or do I need to scan each element individually? How would I be able to do that?
Thank you for making this for Canva!!!
Thank you so much!! this was such a helpful tutorial :)
your video is really helpful.👍
Super helpful!! Thank you.
so good, thank you, so simple and easy
Thank you so much! Great video and super super helpful and easy to follow
This is BRILLIANT, thank you!!!
Very Useful for me.Thanks!
amazing!!!! thanks so much for this tutorial!
I can't make this work with the current version of canva. There is no option to copy at the top of the page as seen in the video. Is there another way to do this with the newer version? Thank you.
Press Control + C
that should do the trick :)
This was such a great and useful video!!
Thank you so much! Great tutorial!
Thank you so much for this video!!!! ❤
This is amazing. Thank you!
Great - thank you!
Excellent thank you so much for this!
Awesome. TY for sharing.
Thank you so much, I'm gonna try this out.
I copied the video but when I check on my suppliers website what it will look like when printed onto a metre of fabric there’s always lines showing in my design. It never looks like there is on canva 😭 it’s driving me insane I can’t seem to grasp it 😔
super helpful!! thanks
Thank you!!!! Should I get my image in 300dpi and in the CMYK color print format first then do this? I need it for my custom baby line....I sew everything and would like to make my own fabric. This was EXCELLENT by the way. Thanks so much for the video
Can you tell how to fix that line error? Thank you.
Can you give me an idea on the scale for when it prints on the fabric? I created a seamless file like you showed but I'm worried how it will print.
I do 3x3 or 4x4 for bows
5x5 or 6x6 for kids clothes/small items
7x7 or 8x8 for adult/large items
And depending on what the file is sometimes u can go bigger.
Can you show how to do a half drop repeat?
Do you use just Canva to create your pattern designs? If not what do you use?
Wow❤️
Just the video I was looking for. Is there a way to make the pattern vector in Canva or do I just need to create the biggest file I can for a better print?
Do you have to start with a small “ tile” first and build on it or can you fill your page with the image and then cut it to do the repeat? Thanks
I have a question. Can we actually use these designs when trying to print them out on fabric? Do we actually own our designs or are they products of Canva?
Brilliant! Thanks so much
Perfect ❤️
Thank you!!
cant you just group and copy the elements? That way it will be faster and u can still edit things?
I can't find the custom design bit on canva, where abouts is it?
Can i create patterns with free commercial use images and creative fabric clip arts ( pod) and sell them on spoonflowers?
amazing thanks
Could you tell me how to get money from using Canva where can I sell my designs?!
Thanks!!!! I Love. >>> Vendo aqui do Brasil!!
wonderful tips full view
Thanks
Can we sell this on pattern bank and others?
Thanks so much Caroline, I found this video really helpful! Just one question, how do I take out the white background of the image since I'm using the free canva version?
If I am not mistaken lunapic service is used for removing background
Or you can use remove.bg it does the same thing!
I use paint.net. a simple app that you çan download on your laptop. Gets the job done in 5 secs. 👌🏾
more videos please... :)
Very useful and smart, thank you!
Thanks for this tutorial. 👍🏻
Thanks so much!
thank you!!!
