There are only two types of people in this world, Tool fans... and people who haven't heard Tool.

Tool's drummer is a monster. Man can literally play a different rythem with each arm and leg all at the same time.

Listen to Tool with a good set of headphones. The engineering of the their songs is incredible. Once you fully appreciate their music (poly-rhythms, deep lyrics, engineering, etc) you will see how magical it is. Sammy Hagar said that these are the four best musicians at their craft (bass, drums, guitar, vocals) who all just happen to be in the same band.

You don’t “catch” the beat of a tool song, you simply “feel it”

Tool has been my favorite band for 22 years and honestly it’s my favorite thing to watch people experience them for the first time! Such a pleasure. Also, the song is about “the pot calling the kettle black”. It’s about their lawyers during the epic lawsuit they had against their record company.

I'm so jealous of people that get to experience Tool for the first time. So many songs that will blow your damn mind man. Just about every song has more than one meaning.

It's the concept of The Pot calling the Kettle Black. As in hypocrisy.

This is a legit, wonderful open minded react. This is what ALL of us Tool fans have been looking for. Bro, when you talk about Danny's off time beats, and Maynard's voice being.... How I can't really put into words how his modulation, timing, and uniqueness is, is still how I feel 20 years later. EVERY TIME.

Seen a lot of these "reactions" to Tool, and primarily The Pot, this guy is ACTUALLY listening and trying to absorb it on the first go. not stopping it ever 25 seconds to get excited about what one of the lyrics were... actually processing the music. With Tool, no Single band member is closer to the front of the stage. They are closer to an orchestral arrangement than a "band". each of the 4 members stand on their own merits, without one, the band fails. This is the entrance to the rabbit hole.

    "It's like an... unorthodox rhythm."

"The Pot" is probably the perfect introductory choice for you because it showcases a little bit of everything that makes Tool the unique band they are. It also is one of Maynard's better vocal performances, but bear in mind that he is an extremely versatile singer and he can sound completely different from track to track. In many of their songs, his vocals are difficult to hear because he typically prefers his voice to be treated as just one of the instruments in the mix rather than front and center like with most bands.

I love that it doesn't matter what type of music you gravitate towards, once you hear Tool, you realize what music can be & your musical life changes.

Tool is just different man. Every song sounds different, they are on another level. Try '46 & 2'. With lyrics.

I'll be real with you, Tool has some songs that can put new listeners off. Harsh guitars and a bunch of weird shit that's best left until you're sure you like the band. This was a good one to ease yourself in. Aenima, Vicarious, Sober, Right In Two, Schism, and Stinkfist are other good ones to start with. I'd avoid their music videos too, you have to do like dmt or acid or some shit or else they're just distracting and weird.

He can’t “catch the rhythm” only because Danny Carey uses many different time signatures. It’s not the basic 4/4 that is used in dance, rap, hip hop, country etc.

Tool beats and rhythms often have multiple things going on at once. Looking at the audience at Tool shows, you can often see 2, 3, 4 head banging patterns at the same time, depending on which bit instrument (or limb, in the drummer's case) the individual is grooving to. Just bop what you feel, man.

Maynard is one of the most POWERFUL and VERSATILE lead vocalist ever. People either love TOOL or they hate them. I love them. Once in a lifetime band. ✌ More TOOL and I'll SUBSCRIBE. 🤞💯

You definitely should listen to Tool through a good set of headphones. There are so many intricacies you miss in the mixing they do. Looking forward to future Tool reactions from you.
