I agree about Psychonauts and Mario Odyssey. Both of these games are hugely overrated. Psychonauts was unique but the actual gameplay was not good overall. Mario Odyssey was boring as hell. They saturated the levels with easy to get "stars". Nothing memorable about that game compared to the other 3d mario games.
Can't understand how you couldn't enjoy Psychonauts! I know the gameplay is very clunky and awkward but it's so funny and well thought out all the way through. Each to their own I guess...
This guy gets me. I absolutely loved RDR but RDR2 was just way too much (like ToTK on switch)... maybe both games just came out when I was at a point in my life where I just don't want to commit to long ass experiences like that, but I really tried to get into both games and they just took way too long and seemed like too much of a time investment. I somewhat agree with MGS takes as well, but I hate MGS5 because of the intro haha I finished it but begrudgingly after that long weird ass intro
LOL this list is great, I love that everything you gripe about is true! I think some of the things you bring up can be argued about, but it doesn't mean it's not true. Mario Odyssey is easy, Beyond Good and Evil & Psychonauts are weird, the MGS is long-winded. Jet Set controls like ass. There is plenty of artistic merit to all of the games on your list (there is a reason why people get triggered when you go after these games) , but it's up to you to either look past them or enjoy them for what it's worth. Good Video!
I thought I was the only one who preferred Red Dead 1....to me, it just had more stylization, more character and charm, it felt like a classic Clint movie but still a video game...this new one just sucked all the soul out of it and focused on hyperrealism, it was just a western life sim to me, at that point... I just got so bored
Couldn’t agree more! RDR2 was so slow and focused on hyperrealism, like you said. It was boring. But RDR1 still felt like a videogame, and the story was brilliant, especially the devastating ending.
Playing as raiden as opposed to solid snake was the entire point of MGS2 and the themes of its story. Identity, destiny and predetermination, and ultimately creating your own identity and destiny in the face of this predetermination. Also, i can remember it being a very controversial move that lots of people were unhappy with. Kojima went against everyone's expectations of him, seemingly his predetermined fate of just making a clone of MGS with solid snake, and created a game with his own identity, his own destiny. It's really quite interesting. I think people who hate the game just because of raiden have a pretty narrow and shallow point of view tbh. It seems they don't like the game just because the main character has long hair and doesn't have a badass gravelly voice
Sounds to me like you are going through mental gymnastics to justify putting that annoying twerp as the main character. I even remember people making excuses for Raiden back in 2001. There is no excuse for making a lead character so annoying, especially after Kojima lead us to believe we would be playing as Solid Snake, who is one of the coolest lead characters ever.
@@thevideogamecabinet3681 I was 10 years old in 2001, and Substiance was my first Metal gear game. Great video. Funny how your thoughts interact with mine. Some thoughts... Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of my favourite games, but I totally understand your criticism. A considerable chunk of the game is slow and tedious, and Chapter 5 (Guarma) is random and unnecessary. However, they took gameplay, attention to detail and worldbuilding to another level, setting a new industry standard. It's the only game where I can walk around doing nothing and still be immersed in the world and its inhabitants. Psychonauts' criticism is valid. I dropped it after 5 hours or so. However, don't let it put you off the 2nd game. It's night and day; Psychonauts 2 is genuinely brilliant. Beyond Good and Evil's criticism is also valid. It could be a great game if remade from the ground up, but in its current state it's average. The question I have at the end of the video, however, is this: Why do you have physical copies of games you don't like? haha.
I have physical copies of these games for reference and because I’m making all this social media about them. I used to sell games I didn’t like. But now I make it a point to keep EVERYTHING if I put my time into beating it, regardless of the score I rate it. (I am never selling my Superman64 or Ride to Hell Retribution, and those are terrible games.) In order to properly talk about and critique these games, I need to pop them in every now and again to remind myself what I thought of them. Plus, I make notes and write reviews on them for this channel and my Instagram&website. I even bought back Control, Persona 5, Mario odyssey, mgs234, and Rdr2 for the purpose of making this video…and thankfully they were cheap to get back. Now I am never selling them again. Ever since beating JSRF last year, I made this rule of keeping every game I buy and beat, regardless of liking it or not. They are part of my library forever, good or bad.
That’s fair enough dude. I do the same but the difference is I don’t beat most games I don’t like haha. I normally drop them when I know it’s not me for, but each to their own.
I agree with you Mario Odyssey was disappointing and not even close to the amazing quality of the Mario Galaxy games. I think Miyamoto was more directly involved in the Galaxy games too so that might be why. Also most of the Persona games are meant for teenagers that are anime fans that want to play a social simulation game with dating and rpg elements so they can live out a fantasy experience of being a Japanese teenager. A lot of Persona fans actually only enjoy all those hour long talking segments more than the actual gameplay. Shin Megami Tensei games might be more up your alley. Also I recommend replaying those Metal Gear Solid games again as well and MGSV would be interesting to hear updated thoughts on those. Keep it up with the videos! 😄💯

Woooooooooooo, this video was a slog. I'll give you some pointers for future videos, starting with the most obvious, language and length. You need to script your criticisms before filming because the endless "likes", "umms", and "Oh my Gods!" represented about a third of the runtime. Plus, it will allow you formulate concrete observations as to why you think a game is overrated rather than just spewing a bunch of vague superficial feelings about the games, instead citing specific scenarios while you were playing them that you took issue with, such as grievances with narrative or gameplay mechanics. Formulating ideas beforehand would have shaved this almost 40 minute desultory diatribe down to something way more bearable and concise, as all I could visualise was you picking your nose while staring at your phone's screen. Speaking of your phone, pointing it at a box rested at the foot of your nan's chest of drawers as your hands shake does not make for compelling viewing. You need to edit in clips from the games, preferably ones that support your argument, or just something other than the wood grain of the floor in your bedroom. Doing this alongside drafting a script will help to consolidate ideas and cut ones that you realise are weak to begin with. The title of your video is completely wrong too since this is your subjective view of why these ten games are overrated; therefore, that should be the title, because the current one is a declarative statement about ten videogames where the general consensus within the gaming community and on review sites is that they are the pinnacle of the medium; therefore, you are in the minority and your goal is either to air your views or be persuasive as to why these titles are "overrated".
@@ArthurSalt I appreciate you watching the whole thing and the tips. When I do my video reviews, I do read from a script. I’ll try to keep everything tighter. But I’m happy with how many views I’ve gotten on this video already! Had to get it all off my chest!

9:41 to get that far into the game and call it boring I call BS. If it was that boring you wouldnt have played it for that long and it is a long game.
@@purefoldnz3070 I am dedicated, so I beat my games before giving my opinion on them. I did finish RDR2 to the end credits, as I did with all the games on this list.
@@thevideogamecabinet3681 its a 50 hour campaign, that's more than dedicated, so you must have been enjoying some of it.
@ dude…I beat Superman 64 on normal and hard mode. Check my Instagram for proof. I am just a different breed of gamer! I’ll finish anything, even if I hate it.
Psychnauts is a perfect example of powerful companies paying their way to the top but the actual gamers don't give af about it
Sort of like a personification of rotten tomato scores vs user scores.
You know it's a trash movie when critics score is 96 and the viewers score is below 50 😂
Psychnauts was the same.
I disagree, psychnauts is not a great game but it is artistic in it presentation. Tim Shafer has a dedicated fanbase that follow him since grim fandango I don’t believe he makes great games but he is an artist and his fans think he’s much better than he is. He’s a small developer and doesn’t pay his way to the top in my opinion
This guy isn't very thoughtful.
Mario Odyssey is a masterpiece, and my favorite game of all time. Real bad take my friend.
@@EthnicEX I hated it, and that’s why it’s my number one most overrated game of all time. Most people agree with you, and not me. But I am glad to see other people in the comment section did actually agree with me about Mario Odyssey. It was nothing like the previous 3-D Mario’s.
I saw this topic on youtube and the most overrated game i think aboit is MGS2. Then i came up to your video and mostly agreed with your argument. When I was playing as Raiden i kepy thinking when will i switch back to Snake… then it never happened😂
Bro... the MGS takes were awful.
Well, you had me cheering when you put mgs2 up, but then you went on to bash 3 & 4? And phantom pain didn't even make the list? ARE YOU CRAZY!?
@@Kevin-w8d2g I have not played Phantom Pain yet. Will do at some point
Agree with MGS 2 and 4. Disagree with Snake Eater and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Just my two cents on overrated games: The Last of Us II, GTA V, Final Fantasy VII, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted, anything Kojima made since Snake Eater, Kingdom Hearts 2.
GTA 4 is overrated
Thank God you didn't put gta 5 on there
@@ej_phatboy1124 yeah, I love GTA5. It’s not overrated at all. Great game. I made lists of my favorite games of each console generation last year, and GTA5 was on there.
Dude just hates mgs. Really mgs3 as well?
@@aaronderby2581 the two original Metal Gear’s on MSX are really good, and MGS1 on ps1 is a masterpiece. And MGS: Ghost Babel on gameboy color is great, too. The series started off great.
But MGS2 is ruined by Raiden, MGS3 was boring, and MGS4 was ruined by nanomachines!!!
@@thevideogamecabinet3681 Fully agree on your take. And while I originally loved MGS3, I re-played it a few times since then and could never get behind it anymore.

@@ryanbrouk1568 only MGS2,3,4. I absolutely love MGS1 on the ps1. One of my favorite games of all time. Soon I will replay it to do a review for this channel. It’s a 10/10. I just replayed and reviewed the first two Metal Gear games for the Msx, and those are great, too. The series just went downhill with Raiden and the nanomachines, lol.
Don't worry frens, Witcher 3 isn't on the list. Put your safeties back on. At ease.
Mario Odyssey is fantastic. Best controls and mechanics ever programmed into a 3D Platformer. I had a blast getting all 999 moons.
I agree with RDR 2 and Persona 5. Long ss games and very over rated. I dont like slow based games either and Persona 5 is for college kids.
@@susanna8612 the teenagers texting and repeating the same things over and over really ruined Persona 5. And when they went on the trip to Hawaii…that was the worst part. I did not care at all, and they talked and talked FOREVER.
@@thevideogamecabinet3681 True. I dropped the game after I tried to play it several hours because it was just so uninteresting.
Good games for me is those that I cannot wait to continue to play them and I might play them through even more than one time. Lies of P was one of those games. Persona 5 felt like Im wasting my time.

JSRF 4/10? This has to be bait

@@MaxPower-ke5rq yeah, I never played Red Dead revolver. But I played Red Dead Redemption 1 on ps3, and it was great. RDR2 on ps4 was boring, though.
100% agree on Persona. I tried to play it but yeah watching the worst written dialog possible in the most mundane interface for what seemed like an eternity makes me question all conventional knowledge on video game values. See also preschool level character design like pokemon, mario, kingdom hearts. Don't get me started on final fantasy, zelda, turn & text based rpgs in general. Lame boring & worse than books on doing taxes.
