Mantis Homeworlds has more dangerous events, so there's more risk/reward involved, but Mantis controlled is almost free.

Just the other day I came across Rebel Stronghold while playing the Mantis Cruiser, it was amazing how much scrap I got. I even boarded the prototype flagship, and it delayed the fleet two jumps.
Personally I would put Zoltan Sectors/Homeworlds in A tier, since there's such a high likelihood of being able to recruit 3+ zoltan onto your ship if you hit every store. Getting all that excess power to the reactor is key!
I also find Zoltan Sectors tend to have more/bigger nebulas than other sectors but that might be a coincidence. Nebulas are nice in non-nebula sectors because it basically doubles your potential scrap because it halves rebel speed.
I'd put the Rock Sectors WAY lower, like C or D. The fact that they almost always have missiles is a guaranteed damage taken and therefore guaranteed waste of scrap repairing it. If you end up going there you NEED an answer to missiles, be it in the form of defense drones (which can miss shots more than it should in the mark 1, or target useless laser fire in the mark 2) or cloaking (which is super hard to come by in advanced edition and 150 scrap if you do find it)

Other homeworlds could give you unique events/rewards/unlocks, so learn how to do them asap. They aren't as good, but homeworlds are just fun imo and when they pop you up and you can spawn the specific event, you are usually strong enough. 2. Green Sectors = more stores. Just make sure you save up some cash at the end of every sector. You should almost always go for a green sector over a red because hacking (80 scraps) is the easiest way to increase your odds of winning a run. Even if you already have hacking, stores are more likely to give you awesome weapons, augments, etc than beating random ships. One lucky find can completely change your run and you want those key systems and the ability to buy fuel, etc. Zoltan ships can be tough early on, but once your weapons can deal with their extra shields, don't be scared, homie. 3. Red = more ships = more cash. Unless you have cloak and/or defensive drone + too many drone parts, rock sectors are the most annoying red because missiles will chip away at you. I think he rates them too high. If you can deal with boarders, the Mantis sector is easy. You want to learn how to use lvl2 doors to suffocate boarders asap, so don't avoid them. 4. Purple = nebula = kills fuel. Unless you have a long-range scanner and way too much fuel, it's a recipe to run out. In general, just fight and murder as many ships as possible like a psychopath. It rarely pays to be the good guy in FTL. Good hunting!
Beating the mini-flagship in the rebel stronghold is the single most rewarding thing in the game. Guaranteed weapon, high scrap and 5 each of fuel / missiles / drone parts.
Late abandon are scary but have many losses more losses to late zoltan at the moment: I’d be like 1 jump away from zoltan shield/envoy quest at homeworlds and get owned by 4 zoltan free boarders, mind control and an enemy zoltan ship with big weapons near a pulsar.
Some factual errors here: Civilian sectors average the highest scrap. They're not especially low on fights either. Civilian also have the same number of stores as Engi and Slug -- 2 or 3. Red sectors don't really generate more scrap than green, it's pretty even overall. Engi Virus event appears in all Engi sectors, you're confusing it with the Engi Fleet Discussion event. Homeworlds are not more difficult than regular sectors. You don't fight harder enemies in Homeworlds, you fight the same enemies. So it makes no sense to put Rebel Stronghold in D tier with Rebel Controlled in S tier -- Stronghold is exactly the same sector, except it also has possibly the best event in the game (Huge Rebel Shipyard). That is the general pattern with Homeworlds -- they are identical to regular sectors apart from their unique event. There are two exceptions. Rock Homeworlds also has the unique Ancient Device event. Engi Homeworlds also has a very slightly higher chance of hitting NEUTRAL_ENGI events (1 more entry in the event pool). Also worth noting that Engi Fleet Discussion is 100% a dead beacon unless you have an Engi. Rock ships don't especially have more missile weapons -- it's just based on their allowed weapon lists, and Rock have 25% missiles vs. 22% for Rebels. Lanius ships don't always have hacking -- Bombers never have it, and Scouts don't always get it.
yes a agree with everything but im pretty sure rocks have more missile wepons like thats what i have herd every yt say and every single rock ship i find has a missile
@@aquapotato.. It's literally what I said -- they have a list of weapons, and Rock ships are marginally more likely to get missile than Rebels. There's nothing in the game "programmed" to give them more missiles, other than the small increased proportion of missiles on their weapons list. People are influenced by perception / theming, when in reality it's just random. The real issue with Rock ships is that they often get cloaking too, which makes those missiles a lot worse.

Considering you can fairly consistently get zolton shield in zolton homeworlds with LRS it should be a instant s tier, I go there 100% of the time I see it just cause that one augment can change a run.
the rebel stronghold is an early nightmare but great later game because the flagship prototype is really bad in sector 6-7 compared to you so it is free huge rewards
Keep in mind Rebel Stronghold has a very good event where you fight an unfinished flagship, which is typically easier than whatever else you'd be fighting. And it gives amazing rewards.
So taking into account how much lanius factor into why abandoned sectors are trash tier, I would argue they should’ve been higher on the race tier list. My high score ship is Lanius B the boarding I think is so good
It's been a while since I played FTL. For whatever reason your tier list videos ended up in my play next section. I was like hey I remember this game it was kinda fun, let's see what this guys opinion is. Though I don't agree with everything. After a few videos I started the game back up for old times sake, and have done a few playthroughs already. Your playstyle is definitely diferent from mine your aversion to drones baffles me, and I tended to play on hard not normal. Still been entertaining to watch though, I started some runs on normal after watching your runs and felt totally OP after spending so much time in Hard. Definitely a ego boost when you get so much more scrap and can curb stomp some weaker ships. Would recommend turning the difficulty down from time to time for anyone who plays primarily hard if you get tired of getting blown up in hard.
If you’re still stuck choosing after 5 months. Rebel stronghold , nuking the under construction flagship is one of the best events in the game (when you get an event which is a large rebel shipyard , choose to look around and you’ll find the under construction flagship)
Wait, what? C tier for Mantis? You just need doors level 2 and you can vent them. The only time it's an issue is if they warp into your cockpit. Use stagger venting so that they'll stay in a room for a while. Easy A tier, IMO.
how does knowing how to fight mantises properly make the sector A tier? they don't have good rewards and the events in the sector are some of the actual worst. Especially late game when they have 3-4 shields and a 4 man boarding party, unless you're also god tier at that point the run is over.
@@rmsgrey ok but does the mod have a concept for a new challenge instead? What I meant with total conversion is, that it is a new szenario. The szenario of FTL is you have to visit as much sectors as possible to get stronger without getting caught by the rebel fleet. Another more classical spaceship szenario could be, that you can fly back and forth to trade goods, but the quests will give you the challenge instead...
@@st0ox The one I know of is just an easy mode/sandbox mod. I have no idea whether there's one that replaces the rebel pursuit with some other challenge.
Unless I have literally two crewmembers, I'd usually prefer to fight a Mantis ship over Rock or Slug. Boarders can usually be fought by just lumping more crew in the same room or by sending everyone to the med-bay, leaving you fighting a ship with fewer weapons and systems than your equivalent Rock or Slug.
It really, really depends on which ship you are using. For instance the Stealth Cruiser should avoid Engi sectors at all costs because of how brutal drones are without shields, but the Mantis Cruiser should seek them out because of how easy Engi are to defeat in boarding. But the Mantis needs to avoid Zoltan sectors unless they have a Shield Bypass or supplementary weapons.
civilian sectors are the best sectors in terms of scrap. On reddit, someone made a statistic and civilian is the best and Uncharted nebula is the worst
Personally I will always go to mantis controlled or homeworld. Hear me out. Once you know how to deal with boarding parties efficiently, their ships more often than not tend to be some of the weakest ships in the game. They tend to rely so much on boarding that sometimes, you'll come across sector 4 mantis ships with like 2 dinky lasers. I also personally will almost always choose Nebula sectors, regardless of whether or not I have the long range sensors. While the fleet movement isn't as limited, its still significant enough that I'm able to visit much of the map. When compared back to when I used to dodge nebula, I found the resource gains to be significant enough to convince me to always go nebula when able. On the other hand, I will vehemently dodge Zoltan anything when able. I hate fighting zoltan shielded ships, especially if RNG has prevented me from getting decent weapons by sector 3 or 4.

Crystal sectors have tons of Crystal guys This is my input!
As someone who aims for boarder/crew-kill strategies, Mantis sectors are a gift - their boarding parties fall to my door control, their onboard weaponry is crap, and if you knock out the teleporter while their crew is aboard your ship, it doesn't matter how good their medbay is...
@@Scortch-lo3xy If they still can't hurt you, then a clone bay just prolongs their agony. Worst case, you end up having to destroy their ship after all, but if they have a clone bay, you can focus on taking that out instead of their teleporter, and still avoid fighting enemy mantis in a hostile medbay, which should give you back the advantage.
Sometimes sector choice is incredibly situational. If You're vulnerable to missiles Rock controlled sectors are terrifying, but if you have even a single defense drone, they're some of the easiest sectors in the game. Mantis controlled sectors are terrifying on low crew, but if you have a solid boarding crew or just a full roster they're easy. Zoltan controlled and rebel controlled sectors require having a decently defensive ship with lots of offense. Engie sectors require being able to counter drones or board. Lanius sectors and abandoned sectors just suck. Lanius sectors can give you some really nice augments and weapons, but their ships are always brutally hard and their tactics leave you hurting. I do agree that civilian sectors and certain green sectors are less useful than the red sectors, unless you need to duck out of danger because your ship got beat up.
You know, it’s not out of the question to maybe do a “Multiverse Tier List” for each of these lists you’ve done, since there’s a lot more to consider in terms of almost everything. Then again, there’s a lot you haven’t experienced yet, so it wouldn’t be fair to give a tierlist just yet.

Lets gooooo new spearmint vid 😵
I actually gone to rebel stronghold in my first run then fought the flagship there and won (unbeliveable, i know) that was very cool.
FTL backgrounds tier list when?
Late abandon are scary but have many losses more losses to late zoltan at the moment: I’d be like 1 jump away from zoltan shield/envoy quest at homeworlds and get owned by 4 zoltan free boarders, mind control and an enemy zoltan ship with big weapons near a pulsar.
I would have liked a recommendation for the first sector jump. For scrap, events, if you need more weapons or crew or repairs...
Ive absent mindedly gone to a rebel stronghold and done the prototype flagship multiple times cus I was clicking through options
I think it's a pretty good sector to go to, personally.
Some factual errors here:
Civilian sectors average the highest scrap.
Tier List idea: Best and game build for each type of play style (boarding, missiles, hacking/cloak, etc.)
Once I got rebel stronghold as sector three and found the construction flagship, but I was playing mantis b and had four mantis so I just ate their crew and won
So good to see this content. Keep it up!
Will you also include Captain's edition eventually?
where do you get the captains edition?
@@jacksonjessup6331 it's a fan-made mod (very easily applicable) you can find by googling it.
There's several, very well made mods for the game that spice up your gameplay.
Captain's edition adds new sector types, enemy ship's layouts, rebalance some weapons, modules, costs, and adds new events, weapons, modules/upgrades, and a better AI.
Why is rock in a and rebel in d ?
Considering you can fairly consistently get zolton shield in zolton homeworlds with LRS it should be a instant s tier, I go there 100% of the time I see it just cause that one augment can change a run.
the rebel stronghold is an early nightmare but great later game because the flagship prototype is really bad in sector 6-7 compared to you so it is free huge rewards
I got that quad Zoltan ... Definitely ended my run. I totally forgot about the extra 15 damage.
Thanks for your lists. I recently got heavily into the game and they help a lot.
I think a system/subsystem tier list would be valuable. Factoring in both buying and upgrading them.
Keep in mind Rebel Stronghold has a very good event where you fight an unfinished flagship, which is typically easier than whatever else you'd be fighting. And it gives amazing rewards.
Are there any DLCs for FTL or is it one purchase get all updates?
1 purchase and u got it all. Multiverse is a mod that I play on my channel which is free
Sadly no. It's an old school game. Just one expansion set and that's it.
Rock controlled and rock homeworld should be S-Tier for the music alone.
I am 11 minutes in and everything sounds like a pain in the *** XD
Bro i have to choose between rebel stronghold and mantis controlled as sector 7. What do i do???
If you’re still stuck choosing after 5 months.
Rebel stronghold , nuking the under construction flagship is one of the best events in the game (when you get an event which is a large rebel shipyard , choose to look around and you’ll find the under construction flagship)
Finally a tier list I need.
Is there a total conversion mod for FTL where you are not hunted by the Rebel Fleet?
There's a mod out there that lets you delay the rebels by ten thousand jumps, which has much the same effect.
Abandoned Sector is my favorite. Lanius crew are the best.
Did you forget that the zoltan sector's have stores
I definitely agree on uncharted nebula. They are the most annoying sector in the game, jump after jump of just nothing.
15:35 - FWIW, the fleet advances 1/5 slower, not 1/3 slower. I made a ruler to measure fleet jumps and it lines up 4 normal to 5 nebula sector
do a quest tier list!
Special event tier list? Could even make it more than one video.
Rocks are the most annoying bc of the missiles
Slugs just seem to have really strong weapons for whatever reason
I feel like I'm the sole Abandoned sector fan :
Im ready for "crew name's tierlist"
It really, really depends on which ship you are using. For instance the Stealth Cruiser should avoid Engi sectors at all costs because of how brutal drones are without shields, but the Mantis Cruiser should seek them out because of how easy Engi are to defeat in boarding. But the Mantis needs to avoid Zoltan sectors unless they have a Shield Bypass or supplementary weapons.
Thank you!
Make a background art tier list
When I saw the title I thought you were going to rank sectors 1thru 8 lol
when the good song starts after he finishes the tier list:
must ... click ... off ...
*music ... too ... powerful*
Tier list of which aliens can get it
do a quest tier list
Nebula's are op bro
civilian sectors are the best sectors in terms of scrap. On reddit, someone made a statistic and civilian is the best and Uncharted nebula is the worst
A tire list for FTL... Multiverse ships! Seriously though. Multiverse tier lists would be cool because i just started playing today.
You could make a strategies tier list where you talk about the different strats that are in the game
Enemy ship tier list
Zoltan homeworld S tier
Zoltan controlled C tier
Engi homeworlds S tier
Rebel Stronghold A tier ( if not s tier )
Rock sectors A tier
Mantis sectors B tier
Rebel controlled A tier
Abandoned S tier
Last stand D tier
Uncharted Nebula D tier
Slug controlled C tier
Slug Home Nebula S Tier
Crystal Worlds S tier
Why I choose these:
Zoltan homeworlds are a must have for either a great crew or Zoltan shield
Zoltan controlled are crap
Engi homeworlds have Virus PERIOD and good scrap
Rebel stronghold has great scrap ( 197 scrap for defeating 1 ship )
Rock homeworlds have crystals and they are EZ
Mantis Cont are Ok, but homeworlds have kazaaakplethkalik
Rebel controlled are EZ and have good scrap
Abandoned have EZ crew unlock and have lanius and almost every race
Last stand is hard and has no stores
Nebula=crap other than home nebula
Home nebula has slug unlock with the slug armor!
Crystal sectors have tons of Crystal guys
This is my input!
HAZARD TIER LIST!
As someone who aims for boarder/crew-kill strategies, Mantis sectors are a gift - their boarding parties fall to my door control, their onboard weaponry is crap, and if you knock out the teleporter while their crew is aboard your ship, it doesn't matter how good their medbay is...
doesn't really matter if they have a clone bay...
I do agree that civilian sectors and certain green sectors are less useful than the red sectors, unless you need to duck out of danger because your ship got beat up.
we need a tier list of the FTL tier lists that you made.
Hate Nebulas, flying in that thing... no. Slugs shutting down Your ship, double no.
tier list if the tier lists you have made
how is Zoltan homeworlds not S tier, there you can get the best argument in the game that you can't buy anywhere else
How the fuck are the Engi easy to fight?!
Ok this is what I really needed to know lmao
Environmental hazard tier list please lol.
1 Meteors
2 Sun
3 Planet Defense
4 Pulsar
5 Nebula Storm
My personal opinion lol
I take that back, Pulsars are by far the worst if they manage to hit your shields and miss the enemies weapons/shields
Asteroid fields is an auto win tbh
Just focus on enemy shields and win
bro you have to play into the breach (the game is made by the same people who made
ftl)
An "FTL tier list" tier list
rock sector is SS tier for the music
