that's Henning's "default" singing voice. My fav of them is "Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen (Proberaum Session)" (proberaum = rehearsal room) they're an amazing live band
I saw an interview with Henning where he said that his voice teacher had said to him:" You can't sing like this for a long time. You'll ruin your voice!" And now he sings like that for 15 years. 😂 You probably need some kind of special physical precondition to do it like that without damaging your voice for such a long time.

You can't sing this way for more than probably 6 months. And I said: But, hey, I'm doing it since I was 14. I think I can do it for much longer." 😂
This is really great, I love it. You can totally explain for us "non-singers" what the heck is going on. Usually I just listen unconsciously and never really think about what singers are doing physically, or mentally. The why, the how? It makes listening to music more interesting, more thoughtful, more connecting hmmmm well anyway Thanks❤
Cool❤.Please listen to amazing Diana Ankudinova .She is extremely rare voice type in a dramatic contralto with polyphonic overtones. Greetings from Switzerland 😊
Glad you discovered AnnenMayKantereit! You could also listen to "Du bist anders" (my favorit is the version on the city wall) and of course to the cover of "Can't get you out of my mind". And "Ozean"! And "James"! And and and... have fun 💖💖
Their German songs are great and he has collabs of his own as well. Good ones of AMK are 'Oft gefragt' (often asked), 'Barfuß am Klavier' (barefoot at the piano) his voice is pretty clear and unstrained in that one in my opinion, and also 'Ozean' (ocean). The best collab of him alone is 'Vermissen' (missing you) feat. Juju, a German female rapper.
liked your analysis ❤ please react to more stuff of AMK to hear how different Hennig can sound 😊 for example covers like "Roxanne" or "Can't get you out of my head" or some of their great german songs like "Lass es kreisen" "Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen" Thank you very much, love and greetings
Henning May and his voice! Oh lordy Lord! 💙 Thank you, Tim, an awesome breakdown. 💙 He can sound a little softer. But it's probably his default. Here are some of my other favs of his singing: "Sometimes I Like To Lie": ua-cam.com/video/QxUcmf8PI4o/v-deo.html "12" (an incredible project, I really recommend to give it a try): ua-cam.com/video/3Zi0MYQK5k8/v-deo.html "Als Ich Ein Kind War" (live): ua-cam.com/video/1jH7va1QBec/v-deo.html
Hey Tim, love your work! I was searching your page for a reaction to Laurence, the band, and didn’t find anything. They are fronted by a brother and sister, Clyde and Gracie, a sibling duo who grew up in New York City. They have been singing, performing, and writing songs together since early childhood. Today, Lawrence is an eight-piece band which has released four studio albums in addition to several live and acoustic albums. They are joined by several more friends on their live “acoustic-ish” videos. These are among the most uplifting and musically sophisticated bangers you’ll ever hear. A good place to start is “Don’t Loose Sight,” or “I’m Confident that I’m Insecure.” Gracie has one of the most impressive voices/performance skill sets I’ve ever seen or heard: She’s like Aretha Franklin had a baby with Ethel Merman! Her brother Clyde recalls Ray Charles and Randy Newman. They’ve been making music together since before Gracie could talk. Clyde wrote a song for the movie “Miss Congeniality” at five, and was the youngest member of the Songwriter’s Guild of America! Check out their activism, In December 2022, Clyde Lawrence wrote an opinion piece published in The New York Times regarding the merging of Ticketmaster and Live Nation. In January 2023, Clyde Lawrence and Jordan Cohen were invited to testify at a U.S. Senate Judiciary hearing in Washington D.C., on the topic of live event ticketing. They definitely deserve a listen and then another and another…. ** some of this info is copied from Wikipedia, Thanks to them
In Henning's case I' m not sure if he's not hurting his voice?! It sounds like it should! Time will tell. I heard Elton John's live album after his vocal chord surgery and his voice was deeper with more grit. So the other way around! And it was lovely, it sounded more real than polished! But there are techniques like throat singing that engage the 'false chords' whatever that may be, that won't hurt your stuff! If you have a video on that I'd be interested... In throat singing I manage to do a 'drone' but that's about it! And I can't explain it to others, sigh!
Another interesting voice you could check out is Steven Wilson Jr., an American singer-songwriter. You might want to take a look at his live take on Stand By Me. He has been around for a while but his popularity is surging now.

Yes, love this one!
henning sings like that for at least 15 years. So he didnt damage his voice. But he can even sing in falsetto. On the song: In meinem Bett
Another fun fact. Henning's father and older brother also have deep voices like Henning.

I can strongly suggest to listen to/ react to "Ausgehen" live. An original by AMK and a fantastic live performance.
1st guy sounds like Julian Casablancas
I personally love "Ozean" and "Barfuß am Klavier" they're really emotional
So glad you have finally reacted to AMK!!. I have watched all your Ren reactions and Henning May's voice and all their songs are incredible!! 🔥
AMK is one of my favorite bands!! I really hope we get to see more reactions of their work (both live and studio-they never disappoint!)
Barfuß am klavier is probably one of my top 3 songs of theirs that shows a softer side of his voice.

Du Bist Anders and Ozean are two of my favorites from them 🥰 I love their sound so so much
also nice is the cover of „can’t get you out of my Head“ - AMK & Parcels are 👌
I believe Henning has like a bit of deeper voice when He talks

That voice coming out of Henning gets me every time.
I have a copy of White Ladder behind me - will have to relisten to it.
