#52 - Splitting Firewood - And how to tell if wood is dry when it’s split

- I split on a pile for about three hours, and a lot of it is dry on the inside because it was dead standing wood. Watch as I split it, and see first hand how to tell whether or not wood is dry or wet.

Looks like an excellent day in the wood yard!
You got that right! But then again, as you know, EVERY day is a good day in the wood yard. Bryant, I just edited the video of the day we went to cut down the big oak trees. It will be published soon!
Great video chris!!!
Thanks, Andrew! Real soon I'll start uploading my videos with my new Eastonmade ULTRA!
Good video. Good info. 👍
Glad it was helpful, Stan. Thanks for watching!
Watching a slow splitter after seeing the ultra in action is painful😳
What's painful is doing it by hand...lol.

Here in Washington State I split in the rain just to get a little done.. Plus I dont mind getting caught in the rain.. LoL
I usually don't mind a little rain, it's when it's a lot of rain and it's cold out, not so much!
When is the best time to split hardwood? I have freshly cut locust and the just sharpened maul bounces off it. It's below freezing.
I know you said before you wanna split it before the wood dries out and tightens up. Is now the best time or better to wait for early spring?
Sooner is better a fresh cut always splits better...locust is tough wood, try ripping it with you chain saw or better yet...get a hydraulic splitter!
Good day to you Chris, is it still raining there? I was able to split some Cherry this morning but rain coming and going.
No the rain quit and the sun came out, another great day in the wood yard!
