    Norwegian MRE’s are perfect for when you go on a fishing trips in Norway. If you ever went camping there, you could enjoy the amazing view and fish all day.

    I so glad to see that you liked the Norwegian MRE. As a Norwegian, i served in the Norwegian Navy, at a Navy base, and the food was so good that i put on weight. We had really good chefs who cooked up anything we wanted. In Norway they consider good food to be important for the morale. We were away from our families for a long time, far away from home, so they made sure to feed us right.

      US Navy had the best chow on ship! My goodness! I ate 4 times a day. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Mid-Rats. All were scrumptious! If I would have stayed on ship for any length of time, I would have. ballooned up big time. Do your Navy personnel get called 'Squid?' That's what us Marines called out Navy counter parts. TFW

      @@MeAncient I don`t remember that we had a name for foreign navy marines. We used to interact with a lot with NATO troops who used to dock their ships at our navy base. I remember we had both British and American troops at our base when i was there.
      They used to eat with us, and we loved the British, cause they would bring things like "Fish and chips" and "English breakfast" to our mess halls and we loved it. Our food was good to begin with, but we loved the English food too.
      We had cooks who was so good. They were privates who had used to work in top restaurants before they served in the navy, and they made our life in the service really good.
      The english even approved of their version of english food like "Fish and chips" and "English breakfast" I used to love having a hot meal for breakfast. We didn`t usually have that, but when they English was there, they served us English breakfast.
      The American marines was very hospitable to us. We were welcomed onboard their ships, and was given tours.
      I remember i was allowed onboard one of your massive submarine boats. And your submarines are so much bigger than the Norwegian submarines.
      The crew onboard were nice and polite, and we had a great relationship. They had been under sea for months and months before they came to us, and were so happy to see the open air again..

    • @MeAncient
      @MeAncient  3 місяці тому +1

      @@yellyman5483 Great to hear from you again. The USMC told me I would be on subs for 6 months to a year at a time in the job I was trained for. I never ended up boarding a sub during my service, and I must admit I was glad of it. TFW!

    • @yellyman5483
      @yellyman5483 3 місяці тому

      @@MeAncient Great to hear from you to. The American Sub had travelled all the way from the U.S. to Norway under sea. I also heard them talk about 6 months under sea, but i don`t recall. This was in the 90`s, so my memory has faded a bit.
      When i talked to the crew, and asked them about being under sea for months and months, they didn´t mind at all. They were used to it.
      I remember them being very down to earth, and nice to relate to. NATO is a great thing, because it allows Norwegians to help out Americans, and vice versa.
      Norwegian Navy ships can dock at any American navy base if we need to. We rehearse together, and we develop weapons together.
      Because of NATO, Norway always buy American aircrafts for our Air Force. We have American F35s, and we train our pilots in the U.S. Our two countries have a great relationship thanks to NATO.
      I love your channel, and your MRE videos. I like that you say a prayer before you dig in to the meals. Thanking the lord for our blessings is a good and humble thing to do.

    Nöt-Creme (nut cream) is an absolute classic in Scandinavia! Was and still is manufactured in my home town of Hässleholm in the south of Sweden. Printzells (the company) invented the stuff in 1961 and one use which is very delicious is to fill rolls with it or make a round bun in which you put the cream in the middle. Highly recommended! Haessleholm was also a major military and railroad hub with two large regiments, one armored with mostly MBT's and the other for support with ammo, food and also field hospitals. I think it's cuz we've had some very loud "religious" people shoving that down everyone's throats in such a visible way in the past few years that people that don't do it have an aversion to anything religious, which is why I find your prayers somewhat refreshing since it's more "wholesome" in some ways.

      Depends on how it is stored and what it is made of. I've eaten a few that were 40 years old. Didn't get sick. I've smelled some newer ones and decided not to eat them because I could tell they were bad. Just be really careful. TFW!

    A Norwegian before-eating-prayer / song:
    Å du som metter liten fugl, velsign vår mat O Gud. Amen
    Oh you who feed (the) little bird, bless our food O' Lord. Amen
    [mett = full, so not only "give some crumbs to", but as in, give enough for one to no longer be hungry]
    PS: I don't know if REAL food is supposed to be the English or the Norwegian word, but real in Norwegian is a word meaning something along the lines of decent

    Cod...okay. Curry... not so much. The Filipino messcranks on my Navy ship ruined a lot of good meat by currying. Threw me off curry for over twenty years!

    • @MeAncient

      I don't know, Lance. The Navy always had good chow aboard the ships I was on. Heck, I volunteered to do laundry while on shore in Beirut so I could take a short helicopter ride over and eat on the mess deck. TFW!

    love your vids but the prayer thing is just weird to me, if people wanted to thank for food they should thank nature itself but people tend to be grateful to something they imagine being a fictional "human, creator of life" rather than being thankful and respectful to the REAL nature that provides us with food and everything

    • @Sniperboy5551
      @Sniperboy5551 4 місяці тому +2

      Being thankful to God is being thankful to nature.
