I'VE COMPLETELY CHANGED MY MIND. I cant stop looking at this figure. Look, its not perfect, there is room for some upgrade, but damn me if it doesnt have a shelf presence. The paint job is super clean, no slop anywhere, its just it could use a bit more weathering in places. But despite that, or somee details feeling soft, its just so well executed, and it lookd so incredibly well and epic, just standing there! oNE OF MY FAVORITE FIGURES OF ALL TIME, thats quite a shift in perspective isnt it? I guess it has alot to do with the character design, but truth bee told, only figuarts managed to nail it so far. Their characters are a bit stylised, proportions arent 100% accurate, but that is to make them all look more heroic, and i swear it works. its perfect, its menacing, just how you'd like fett to be. I hope they will re-release Jango with updated articulation, that would be a treat. But even if that doesnt happen, I am getting the empire strikes back version for sure.
One of the many things I love about your reviews is that you're the only one that always shows the model kit versions. With Russ doing an Action Figure Evolution homage to Glenn Webb, you'd be able to do some damn nice ones.
Just got this figure a few days ago. Getting some photos with it while I watch this. Really enjoying it, I have several SHF but this is my first Star Wars.
Thanks Fwoosh! Another excellent video and review. You answered everything I wanted to know. Your closing comments about shelf vs play perfectly captured my thoughts. And as always your humor had me attentive throughout.
Great review, although this and Mafex stuff is a little rich for my blood, happy with my Black Series reissue Fett with my warped range finder and pouches that block leg articulation, lol.
That is the coolest looking Boba Fett action figure I have ever seen, I love the kind of cartoon feel and look it gives and it just looks so, clean but it still gives that dirty beat up look that Boba Fett has.
Honestly the figuarts sounds like the better figure to play around with, and the Mafex seems like the better figure to have on display. Basically serving different purposes.
3:01 - _zero_ weathering on the jetpack 😳. Woah...it's supposed to be riddled with wear. It's the Empire one that isn't too bad. Yeah, they "intentionally" did a more cartoonish Fett.
I just started collecting action figures and that Mafex Boba Fett is definitely on my top 3 MUST GET figures. Too bad is too expensive trying to get it from someone else, years after its release
The Mafex figures are definitely more accurate, but I really like the Figuarts one and I kinda just prefer the Figuarts aesthetic overall. Plus, this one can be had for under $50 right now, so I'll take that over the $80+ for a Mafex. Side Note: I see you stopped pronouncing "height" as "heigth". Your reviews are getting more and more perfect by the day. Upwards and onwards Robo!
It's crazy how Figuarts doesn't hold a candle to the older Mafex ones. That was my first Mafex, and I fell in love with them more than SH Figuarts. So glad I've never had any issues, hearing all the horror stories about that company. Getting that new Hasbro helmet and the repainted Slave 1 has got me wanting more Fett. I've had the Mafex ESB one, so figuring I should get the Figuarts ROTJ version instead of Mafex cause it's totally different. Even though it's not nearly as good, I like each of my items to be as unique as possible. Not to mention the price is drastically lower.
Great review, buddy! I really love my Mafex Bobas (yes I have both as well) and I feel that the detail is great. I thought I heard that Mafex has stopped with Star Wars? Either way, this figure looks great too, but I’ll just hang on to my Mafex Bobas. There’s something a bit “Kenner-y” about the Figurarts though... 🤷♂️
Now I like Figuarts even more I’m so glad I’ve bought it, pricing is ridiculous if only it came with more accessories. I got mine on Amazon for about $65.49
@@EdsterIII Depends on distribution. If it's a regular release, it would be around $100. Which would worth it if it's as good as it looks. But if it's a soul web exclusive like Yoda..... Then might as well give up hope and get that Black Series General to fill that Spot.
I love it when you say ‘Mafex’ it makes me think of me and you in a hotel room faulting figures... maybe topless...... wait did I go too far? Lol great review dude glad I preordered this
You're forgetting something, Robo. The helmet adds height to an actor. Jeremy Bulloch might be 6', but, with the thickness of the helmet and the padding in the helmet, Boba Fett is at least 6'1", maybe taller. So the SHFiguarts is a little small.
Dude your reviews are so entertaining, keep em coming! Love your state too, been there many times and wish I could live there aside from the rural internet issues :) Decided to go with the Hasbro Boba over this one as I could not justify this at 3x the price what with all my Hot Toys pre-orders. He gets here soon so hopefully I will not be filled with regret ...
3:31 I've never understood criticisms of forward foot movement. Try to tilt your whole foot forward, you'll see you barely have any range in that direction. Thats precisely what the toe joint is for. I can understand wanting that range for stabilitys sake but it's anatomically accurate for it to be super limited.
I just got my Boba Fett in the mail early and I like it more than the mafex. I will take tight joints, hands that won’t fail off when you pose the figure, and better articulation over sculpt any day
4:13 - they've always been Wookie braids. So ridiculous that people started saying Padawan braids cause of Kenobi's rat tail from Episode 1. Back in '79, the 13" Fett had Wookie braids mentioned on the box. So it was confirmed a year before we saw them on the big screen. It did have me thinking they were trying to rewrite history; back when George made Greedo shoot first...in the most obviously edited way. George and Disney can try to change things all they want, but Fett will never be a clone; and he sounds _just_ like Jason Wingreen lol.
I'm kinda getting a cartoon or comic vibe. This guy could work really well with that convention exclusive Luke Skywalker from 'Skywalker Strikes'. Excellent review as always!
I would buy it for the wider visor if I didn't have Mafex ESB Fett. I still think Hasbro is the better buy if you don't want any of the fragility the imports have!
good analysis there regarding scale, of course a case could be made that the helmet should make him even a bit taller than 6 feet, in any case, it's very close to accurate size for 1/12
The MAFEX Boba's just hold so much more realism and quality in my opinion. Not sure why Figuarts would release such a clean, candy/comic-lookin aesthetic.
I just bought this Boba. The only real knock on him is that he's too clean. He's in bad need of a black wash. Some darkness in the creases and a little dirty here and there will bring the realism that's sorely missing. Otherwise, great figure.
As long as this was shown at shows, this is hardly a shocking theory, but I think this has to be one of Figuarts oldest/earliest sculpts. Because Figuarts has always been the absolute best for Start Wars 6" figures *except* for their earliest offerings - ROTJ Vader & Luke- which I think was sculpted around the same time. Why it took so long to release? I dunno. But the sculpt details are just...soft and amateurish, just look at those skinny jeans with vague details...I can hear it now..."Oh Mi Gwd! What are those jeans??? Uh...Mandalorians, of course." So yeah, the amorphous "Mandies", the weird paint by numbers paint ops with silver splotches added as an afterthought and too small helmet....it's like Figuarts regular sculptor was moonlighting exclusively at Mafex when this dude was made, and came back ever since. Figuarts should have resculpted him in the intervening time, they have to see how inferior he is to Mafex and even Hasbro (btw love that Kenner Ops Fett!). Great review as always, here's hoping Bandai has an Empire Fett for the 40th to wow us like their usual standards do!
Overall looks pretty good & a decent alternative to the SWBS & Mafex versions, but not great. More weathering, a cloth cape, & blast effects for the rocket & gun & would have been very cool. Personally I think the SWBS looks better (even though its the ESB version) & agree the Mafex is still No. 1. Thanks for the detail review.
It really does give off that Bandai model kit look. Basically completely painted, but still not super detailed. Although I think Bandai would've gotten the hose on the right gauntlet.
This figure makes me even more bummed that I didn't get Mafex ROTJ Boba when I had the chance. I thought I'll be content with just my Mafex ESB.... But nope 😔
Yo Casting Cave had a shrunken, painted head of the Mythos Obi-Wan, fitted for the Figuarts Kenobi. You should jump on that if he still has one available.
8:47 - that's actually correct, but not quite how you said it. With the figure being a tad _under_ 6" (6 foot), and with Jeremy Bulloch always being under 6', it's a perfect 1/12 scale. Even with the added height of the helmet, Jeremy still wasn't quite 6'. So yeah, Figuarts for the win with *true* 1/12 scale.
I’m a bit disappointed in the figure... BUT, I still picked it up and with the Mandalorian figures from the Black Series came out with look fantastic together. So, as much as I didn’t want it. Glad I picked it up.
I really think the Mafex one looks better, but sticking a random Mafex figure amongst my Figuarts just ain't right in my mind. Especially since it's taller.
Seems like nowadays, everytime we get a helmeted Star Wars character from SHF, they fail to deliver compared to MAFEX. Gotta hand it to Medicom, they've really upped their game in recent years. However, SHF continues to knock it out of the park with any character who has their face showing. Their actor likenesses are still the absolute best you can get at this scale.
I actually prefer this figure over the Black Series version.... but I ain't paying $76+ for this guy. I already have a HT ESB Deluxe Boba Fett... which is already the ultimate Boba Fett figure IMO

I don’t collect SHFA, and this one won’t have me migrating to the line, but I do appreciate the review as always. Glad you like it and will find a use for it.
I do love this figure alot but mine came with 2 left shins and considering i waited 2 weeks to ship from Japan i never bothered returning it for a non defect. Its only noticeable if you know the tools in the right shin pockets are different from the left so whatever.. Im stuck with it lol
Why is it that most toy bobas have the original ee3 but when searching for the ee3 online all you get is the rots version oh and it would be cool to see a custom boba model figure made to look like Jango
When will we get a prototype and Holiday special Boba ? And does that stuff on your walls make your room sound proof? Needing stuff like that, I’m guessing it’s expensive? I will probably still get this, it’s just lacking detail bit to plain and matte in areas, yeah the wrinkles are needed. I think the Mafex is better. And the height results I think are way off, Jeremy Bulloch said he was 5’9 or 5’10 (I think?) Was an interview he did. Maybe he shrunk. And Han Solo is definitely not 5’9 when Luke is 5’10. Ya know, I'm not even a Star Wars fan, never seen the movies, but your reviews are just so damn entertaining! Another great one!

The MAFEX versions are best.
Great review!
