  • Part 3: I ordered this Rickenbacker style 4003 bass guitar from China - it arrived in about 3 weeks in one piece (thankfully). It is has a solid Walnut body with Maple thru neck construction. Maple fingerboard with shark fin fingerboard inlays... honestly, this bass looks great! A close inspection revealed some flaws and build issues but I am sure they can be resolved easily enough over the course of a few videos.
This video will focus on repositioning and modifying the bridge. I hope you enjoy the video!

You should wire up the Ric-o-sound output jack - it’s available online!

Best bass set up video EVER! I'm a guitar player, but bought one of these Chickenbackers just to goof around with in the house, I like the Rickenbacker design because it's easy to play up high on the neck,. As weird as it looks, I find it very comfortable to play and I like the long scale, probability of hitting the wrong notes is reduced, for me anyway. Seymour Duncan makes a great set of no noise Rickenbacker pickups,. Guess that would be an upgrade that would make a difference. Hard to compare a $300 instrument of low quality to a $3,000+ instrument of great quality.

Just for reference, on a real Ric, the top knobs are the tone knobs for each pickup and the bottom knobs are the volumes for each pickup.

Great series you got, can't wait to see more on this bass. I was curious though where you got this bass as I'm considering buying one now 😁

heh yeah that's not wired like a rick, for the "rick o sound" it's slightly complicated but the end result is a stereo jack where the tip is one pick up, the ring is the other pickup and the sleeve is ground and somehow there's a shunt on the mono out that diverts the split and just does mono, i dunno you have to look up how to wire a rick, but it doesn't seem too hard, then you use a split trs cable so you can run different effects on each pickup, then you'll sound like chris squire...now i'm thinking about getting a chickenbacker

Don't. You'll waste money on instant upgrades and get stuck w permanent things you can't change like neck shape. Buy one for $300 and put another $300 plus the work and time and you're at about $700. Might as well get the real deal. You can resale it to get another Ric. A Chickenbacker is useless. You can't really sell it even after upgrading it with great electronics and hardware. Worthless.

@@hellboundrubber4448- I think you're right, but people will always be attracted to copies - be they ever-so ghastly. The lure of a (possible) bargain is hard to resist, and buyers will justify their purchase by treating it as a long-term hobby project. Just a bit of fun.
You see similar things with cars. Guys will buy a bottom-of-the-range model for £5,000, then spend another £20,000 to bring it up to a decent standard, whilst remaining blind to the fact that they could have bought a used top-of-the-range model for £12,000.
"There's nowt so queer as folk", as they say in Yorkshire.

@@EleanorPeterson Yep, all this upgrade talk is just BS to cover up the fact they want to have the coolness of Ace's Blue Gib. I do. I'm more than willing to play garbage for coolness. Fk Yeah. Don't need an upgrade. I save that cash for a serious Guit to Record or Gig with.

are your services avaliable to the public? I've been thinking about ordering a Harley Benton RB or this one and upgrading everything to make it as close as you can to a real ric. I have no luthier or anything near me that I am aware of .
